This company is very unprofessional and extremely unreliable. I have talked to Scott and Don, who is the owner and chose them to install my windows. Casement Windows were a good quality, but the customer service was a joke. We had a problem with one of out windows that had to be replaced and even though we have a life time warranty they refused to come out and fix it. I have called them numerous times and was ghosted. I had to reach out to the manufacture, Lindsey Windows. American Windows and Siding, Inc. said they did want to take someone off a job to fix out window because we lived too far. We had a bay window installed, and within one year of the new window installation, one of the windows became severely fogged while it was under warranty. Now, I am not a window expert so I am not sure if the new window that American Window and Siding installed was a defected window, or an issue with the installation. Unless of course you want to be told to F off, call a B, and a few of words that that was unprofessional, crass, oafish... He went from 0 to 100 in a 10 seconds. 1. He was not happy that instead of vinyl windows we requested wood window even knew the specific type. He spend 5 to 10 minutes telling us vinyl was better, we need to go with vinyl. Correct me but I thought it was the customer who decided what they want to purchase. But of course we are women what do we know. 2. Then he gave us a quote per window without measuring, the price for a Wood Window a whopping $1500.00 per window. When we told him we got a much better price with Lowes for the same window he proceed to tell us why we don't want to go with Lowes. His staff has been with him for 20 year and they are all of European Descent. It was at that point my sister explain she took exception with that statement what does someone nationality has to do with their ability to install windows. She also informed him what we both knew, that we would not be going with his company. He continue to try and convince us for the next 5 minute why his company was the best and then out of the blue he blew and proceed to curse us, telling what going to happen to our window. We have been getting quotes from different people for the last six months and are only stipulation is that we wanted blinds inside he was one of two companies that sold Sunrise windows products! He did not give us big sales pitch and he was the only guy who was able to tell us that our deck window doors would not be custom order unlike everyone else. He said the difference, it's called carpentry! Don and his crew did the whole job for less than just the cost of the one window/ deck cost. His crew was professional, on time and very efficient to get he job done in one day!!!! Scott Hadel - VP American Window and Siding gave me an estimate for replacing 12 windows yesterday. He followed up today to see what I thought of the estimate. I told him the cost was in line with another quote but that competitor had better review ratings. Ten minutes ago, I got another call from American Window and Siding. This time it was their PRESIDENT. He said they would beat anyone else's written quote. I told him I don't operate like that. They should have given their best quote. His tone changes immediately. He said. Let me tell you how we operate. We don't want your business. If the president of the company treats prospective customers this way, I believe all the negative reviews from customers with more serious complaints. My advice is avoid American Window and Siding. Had the old windows replaced and they did a wonderful job. Very quick to come out and came at the time stated. Was amazed at how quickly they got the old windows out and the new ones in, and all done with no mess left. Removed the blinds and later reinstalled them. I am looking forward to more warmth in the winter with new windows and they slide up and down and tilt for cleaning....a real plus after the old windows that I couldn't even get open...Great crew and Scott was very informative so, so far, I'm pleased. read more

On November 13, 2018 at 11:50 AM, I called their Downers Grove office at 630-324-0515 to confirm whether they manufacture windows that are black in the inside and black on the outside. I was told that they do, but than he cut me off and said, "we do not want your business" and hung up the phone. That person didn't even have the decency to tell me why he didn't want my business, just simply hung-up the phone. I don't understand what is wrong with Don Dirkes. I have continually begged him to come and fix the James Hardie siding he installed. I even set up a claim with the BBB. He did show up after the BBB contacted him and then never followed through. The siding has some issues with gaps. I am now reporting him to the James Hardie Company. What a character. He doesn't care that the customer is right or wrong, he just blows up and starts yelling at them. Very difficult man to deal with. Thinks he's right all the time. Won't listen to reason. He should not be a sales rep either. He just berates other peoples work to the extent you hire him in self defense. His crew does NO better than anyone else, except for Larry the window man. Very good team, clean and professional but the company is a SCAM, from the first week they try to add in a top to $7500 contract, other $1600 but I never agree and they did the job.To the end they add other $450 for insurance , permit, transport...etc.Be carefful, the manager push me to the violetion with city, I ask the documentation for permit and they never provide the papers but start to work, Same day city show up and stop the job and the company got permit, but guess what they set me to pay evan the person going to the city...I told them the insurance and other documentations is not my responsability and sonn after they got the payment and job been done I got the SMS :they dose't keep the warranty and never show up if I have a problem with the windows! We also appreciated the no-pressure sales tactics when giving us an estimate for the windows. He gave us an estimate that was good for 30 days and didn't hassle us to make a decision or try to force us into buying more expensive windows than we needed. They explained every option to me, and did not attempt to sell me on the most expensive window to their benefit. They helped me choose a good window that was within my budget, and they delivered a great window that I was happy with. American Window and Siding just replaced all the windows in my house- about 30 of them and did a fantastic job. When we started our search for window companies, we were eyeing a house for purchase. While Don (the owner) couldn't come onsite as we weren't the owners, he was very generous with his time on the phone to advise us, which we appreciated. He gave us a "worst case estimate" which helped us budget for the window replacements. We ultimately bought the house and hired Don as we were impressed with his helpfulness, professionalism, and warranty (10 years on the labor). His crew was also very professional and actually worked longer hours than I expected to ensure the job was done in the promised timeframe. The cost of the job was very reasonable in our estimation and Don was also generous about working on a payment plan that was workable for both he and us. I originally ordered two patio doors; one 6 foot, one 9 foot, with half down,on March 23, 2015. After waiting about a month, I called to see when I would have them. Turns out they were a special order due to color and the salesman forgot to order. I was understanding and explained I would need a Saturday delivery when they arrived . No problem, I was told. Finally, the order was in the end of May. Installation was going great and the 6 foot door was perfect. The 9 foot door was missing a part. Installer says this happens a lot. I would have the part that week. Each time I called I was given a new excuse. The owner, Don, was particularly rude. The installer complained about how many hours he works. Not once was there an apology or how can we make this better. I finally stopped talking to them and my daughter took over. She was now told the part had to be special ordered. No apology to her. Door finally installed today, July 16. No foot stops on it as ordered. Installer said they did not put them on the truck. So, one door has them and the other does not. I would not recommend this company to anyone. read more

9/8 follow up to my 6/6 review......Still seeking my missing storm for my sidelight. Paid in full and still no one has installed same. While I do not have to be home for the installation to take place....still they are repeat no show non-professionals. Left another voicemail message with owner Donald and asked for a refund for the missing sidelight. This was 2 weeks ago and still NO check in the mail. Wonder if they are still in business? Donald always says he will check the status and calendar and get back to me..............but he does not respond. Anyone else having any dead beat dealings with this person or company? Perhaps we could start a class action. I will cc his americanwsd.com email with this message. Perhaps he might start to care about not ripping off his customers and actually do his job of following up and completing the paid job. Sign me as one unhappy customer.
