We own a home built in 1936 in California Heights with original wood windows. The wood itself is in great shape but the windows didn't function properly from lack of use and being painted shut. Nick and his team gave new life to the windows! He said his goal was to open and close our windows with one hand and he holds true to that promise. They glide open and shut easily and the locks fit snuggly. While we will be painting the windows and trim, aesthetically, they kept the distress minimal. Nick made sure to be extra cautious about the debris and dust because we have two small children. He also put in the extra effort and noticed two doors in our house weren't latching properly and proactively fixed that for us too. One of his crew members also graciously brought in a few boxes from our porch that were delivered when they were here. Oh, and Nick and one of his crew members also helped us move a couch out of the garage into a Uhaul for a friend. Nick and his team are nice guys and very talented. His team was professional and efficient, taking care of a job of 3 doors and 4 windows in under a half of a day. It's immensely hard work - appears actually more complicated than replacing windows, but they were fast. I have been remodeling my 1923 home for months, and my last major project was to do something about my windows. They were rattling, they didn't seal, many of them had issues opening/closing from years of layered old paint. My general contractor wanted to replace them with new vinyl windows but that really isn't my taste. It was very important to me to keep my house as original as possible to preserve the charm and character, so I started researching companies that could restore my windows back to working condition. I'm so SO happy I found Nick, and didn't end up with ugly vinyl windows all over my house. He came in with his crew and made every window work as if it was brand new. They sanded every window frame down so the window opens and closes seamlessly, installed weather stripping to prevent rattling and loss of AC/heat. They seal great now, which I was told that my original windows would never be able to do. The guys were professional, they cleaned up after their work every day, and they finished ahead of schedule. My house had about 10 windows with louvers in them that I didn't care for, so Nick and his crew built me brand new windows that match the other old ones exactly. You can't tell which are restored and which are replicas. If you have a home with the original, historic windows, I recommend letting Nick and his guys restore them for you. Never got service done because my job was not big enough. I called to get a quote for a window that was broken and wanted it repaired not replaced. I read the reviews and one reviewer stated she had two windows fixed, and since no where in there description stated there was a minimum order/window I gave them a call. The guys wasn't rude or anything but when he asked how many windows needed to be fixed, I stated 1 or 2 depending on how you count since the windows were right next to each other. The windows open independently of each other but the guy stated it was one window and they don't come out for one window. Having a minimum order is fine, just state it in this site. And being consistent with every customer would help as it was clearly stated by another yelp review that you guys came out for two windows but count mine as one. Who knows if they had came out, I could have asked for more windows to be fixed as they are not in the best shape but my first concern was fixing a window where the wood was literally hanging off the glass and connected at the corner and was a safety issue. read more

Nick and his team did an absolutely amazing job restoring our original 1912 double sash windows that were practically inoperable before, they would only stay up with the use of a dowel or some type of support! The windows wouldn't seal either which meant we could hear everything outside and feel drafts sneaking in. Nick and his team weatherstripped and fixed the rope and weight systems and now they glide and operate as if they were brand new! Nick also built a couple brand new replacement windows for us, matching some adjacent existing windows and they turned out beyond what we could have expected. I recently moved into a nearly 100-year-old house in LA with all original windows--and none of them opened (painted shut, broken sash cords, various other problems). It was really important to me to restore the windows rather than replace them, so I had to find someone that would not only be able to make them work, but would also very carefully preserve the original wood and glass. And I am so happy I found Nick and his team who did the most incredible work!! The windows open so smoothly with just one hand now, the original details are all intact, and they even added weather stripping to each one. It has completely transformed my house and I am so grateful. These guys are the best. I have a house in the colony in Anaheim it was built in 1929. Translation, it's old and has some great windows but they are also old. I didn't want to just replace them with vinyl I wanted to keep with the style of my home and do it right. Who knows, maybe one day I'll go for historical designation or something cool. Anyway the crew rolled in, rehabbed 7 windows, replaced a large picture window, and completely rebuilt another window, all in a day. These are the old school windows with counter weights, dual action, etc. They showed up on time. Were completely respectable of my place, covering furniture, sweeping up etc. They did an amazing job! Absolutely 5 Star Business ! Home was built in 1950's and three windows needed repairs- Front bedroom window and a bathroom window would not stay up without being propped open. Rear bedroom window frame and panes of glass were separating. Saw American Windows Restoration in Yelp and was impressed as it received only 5 Star reviews. Initially, when I called at the beginning of August he said it would be about September before he could schedule the job. As this job has been on my backburner list there was no great rush. At the end of August, Nick and his team showed up on time to do the job. With one man working on each of the windows they were able to complete the job in amazing time. The two windows that would not stay open, they pulled the windows out and replaced the cables(Balancers) and put them back and they work like new(maybe better). They also found the bathroom window had deteriorated because of dry rot and they recreated the bottom portion of the window. The third window(painted shut) was also removed and tuned up with balancers replaced. When done,Nick and his crew cleaned up their mess. I was hoping to get a bit of free advice about a fourth window and Nick said it just needed a bit of wax which he took care of. All four windows work amazing. As noted by others, and I wholeheartedly agree- Great Attitude, Shows up on time, Meticulous work, Finishing when they predicted, and Leaving everything clean. Excellent! I am very happy with American Window Restoration restoring our 1940's windows to full operation. Better than new! I really appreciate their meticulous work, great attitude, showing up on time, finishing when they predicted, and leaving everything clean. The sashes now go up and down easily and fully, allowing me to clean the outside of our windows easily while inside. The new weatherstripping has eliminated the rattles. We have a 1930's Spanish stucco and tile roofed house. My parents owned the house for 60 years and ran a humidifier constantly for the last 10 years of their lives. Needless to say, it did substantial damage to the windows in the room where it was run. Windows were literally falling apart and some were rotted clear through the wood. We looked into replacement windows, but they would not match the rest of the windows and I didn't like that there would likely be some intrusion into the existing stucco. Then we found Nick and his team at American Window Restoration. There was no big sales pitch. It was like talking with a craftsman, which in fact Nick is. Everything was easy. Nick's crew got all the measurements easily from the outside of the house and built new double-hung and picture window replacements in his shop. Then he and the crew took one day to install them. They kept the site clean and removed the old windows and thoroughly cleaned up when they were finished. The windows now work like new, keep the weather out, and blend in with the style of the house perfectly. We even had a small six-sided window that the replacement window people said they could not duplicate. Nick removed and thoroughly repaired it on-site, replacing damaged wood and glass (did I mention he's a craftsman?). That went a long way to restoring the original look of the house. Nick was great to work with and we couldn't be more pleased with the result. And the price was substantially less than the replacement windows would have been! Nick and his crew have done an excellent job for me at two different properties. The first job Nick did for me was at a rental property - the home is an early 1900s historic Craftsman multi-family house and I had 9 large double-hung windows that needed a lot of work. Most of the windows needed to be restrung and balanced, many were stuck from multiple past paint jobs, and some of them seemed like they were on the verge of falling apart. American Windows Restoration took all of them apart, cleaned everything out, restrung the weights, and weatherstripped everything. The windows work amazingly well now and gone are the rattles and drafts. I will be calling them back as I get turn over in each unit so that eventually all the windows in the house have gotten the same restoration! The complete restoration is not cheap but it's reasonable and much less expensive than having new windows put in and for those of us with historic houses in historic districts - this is an perfect solution to window problems. I was so happy with the work Nick did I decided to call him out to take a look at my 1920s French Revival style home to see about getting rid some problemed windows in my own home. I had 6 single hung aluminium windows that had replaced the original sing-in, wood, casement windows. The aluminium windows were not energy efficient, they were leaking when it rained, and some of the locks had broken. I had tried to work with companies to get new windows installed but had nothing but trouble because of the narrow with of the windows and the bullnosed areas around each opening. It seemed my only option with new windows would be to bust out a lot of stucco...it was such a disheartening experience I had actually give up on updating the windows for over a year. But I called Nick and asked him if he thought he could do something for me. He came out looked at the windows and told me he could give me a quote to build all new windows for me that would go into the original openings and that while the windows weren't wide enough for the double hung that I wanted he could make them swing-out casements instead of sing-in so that I wouldn't have trouble with the windows having problems opening because of the furniture. I agreed and actually decided to have him give me 3 awning style windows in the living-room and 3 casement in the dinning room. I couldn't be happier with the end result. Nick and his crew were prompt, curious, clean, honest, and very professional. I plan to have them do more work at both properties, as my schedule allows.
