This is an absolute treasure of a business. Today I had nine double hung windows repaired in my 110-year-old Long Beach home. The crew arrived on time, went right to work covering my furniture and rugs, and did an excellent job fixing the windows. They were professional, friendly and clean. They even cleaned the windows when done. THAT was unexpected. If you live in an older home and have windows that are broken or painted shut call these folks immediately! Even though I didn't actually get to use them to repair my windows, the estimator gave me the information on how to get my windows fixed (they were covered by the manufacturer warranty which without his knowledge I wouldn't of had any idea). He didn't have to share that information- but he did. He was very knowledgeable regarding wood windows. I really appreciated the fact that he made the far drive to the house- although we didn't know that he wouldn't be able to actually help fix our windows, he was still very cordial, friendly, professional and informative. We had water damage on three of our original 1912 window frames where the frames were beginning to rot and pull back from the glass to the point where we were afraid to even attempt to open the windows. We also had a double hung bathroom window that wouldn't lock and bounced on the sashes when opened. We needed a company that could fix or restore the existing windows to maintain the character of our home versus trying to upsell us on new, modern windows. We got quotes from 2 companies, but James Thomas sold the project for us. We could tell when he came out to evaluate the job, he is passionate about his work and really cares about the outcome. He was very detailed in his review of our windows, making sure to explain what would happen step by step and set expectations. When the crew came out last week, they were efficient, did beautiful work, and left the area very clean. They replaced the frames of two of the windows and were able to repair the third as James had explained they try to salvage the original wood if they can. Then, they applied weather stripping to each window probably making them the most efficient and quiet windows in our home. They also changed out the casement latch assemblies with really nice pull latches that work well with the rest of the window hardware in our home. Finally, they retrofit the bathroom window so that it opens and closes smoothly and fixed the sash lock so that it locks. We're very pleased. Three and a half years after we first hired Window Restoration & Repair, we decided it was time to fix up all the windows. It was a big, costly job, our longest delayed home improvement, and we're very happy with the results. Because of the extent of the project, we were advised to vacate the house for a couple of days. We took our two small children (kids should not be around window repairs, particularly when old, possibly lead-ridden paint is involved) and went to my parents', and the WR&R crew took over. I stopped by once to pick up some things and see how the work was going, and there were like ten people in there, all of them looking busy. I guess that's how they were able to repair dozens of 1917 windows in just two days. If you have some old windows that need special care, call WR&R. I think they're the only game in town for this sort of historic window restoration, and they do outstanding work. Every one of our windows now functions as originally intended, sliding easily on a pulley system that allows them to open from the top and the bottom. They feel pleasingly well made in a way I had never noticed before. WR&R also replaced all the hardware so that it all matches--we had like five different kinds prior to this job, installed at different times over the last century, none of them as nice as the new latches. Everyone we dealt with, from the office to the repair team, was friendly and professional, and they made every step of the process as easy as possible. Norm from WRR is honest, excited about old/original homes and windows etc., and really knows his stuff. I thought for sure I had rot damage on some of my original windows from 1936. I was ready to pay to have them restored. He came out today and told me that the frames and sashes are solid and I do not need to restore anything! He recommended I get them repainted and reglazed from the outside as what I was looking at was only a little water damage. It is hard to come across honest people these days. I cannot recommend Window Restoration & Repair enough. The relatively new wooden windows on my house needed replacement due to poor quality of the wood resulting in wood rot. Every window place I went to said I had to replace the entire window - housing and all - which would require busting through the stucco to the joints to fully remove each set of windows, replacing the entire unit and only to have to re-stucco and paint. Considering I was looking at replacing over 10 windows, that would require a LOT of work and money. Also it would require throwing out good window frames that didn't need replacing - bad for the environment too. Luckily, I called and met with Window Restoration & Repair. While newer windows aren't their wheelhouse, they stepped in and completely reconstructed my exact windows to size and were able to just replace the interior part of the windows - to the exact dimension of the original. They came when they said, were respenctful of our time and space and we couldn't be happier with the result. All this at a fraction of the cost of replacing the whole AND better for the environment. I am now referring them to all my friends who have older homes that need window repair. And will call on them again should I need. Do yourself and the earth a favor and call these guys first. Sergio was professional, courteous & did a good job of repairing 2 windows in our home from 1900. And thankfully he wore a mask at all times. His co-worker was obviously a novice from their conversations & mask wearing proved to be difficult for him despite a global pandemic hence 3 stars. The exterior of one of the windows was left with patches of paint missing where they did repairs WARNING - they do not fill in the patches where they cut thru paint & wood. We are left to clean up after them. For the price that we paid I find this shockingly unprofessional. read more

We had our windows replaced by Window Restoration and Repair quite a few years ago, I believe more than 10 years ago. We reached our to Norm as one of the windows would no longer open due to a broken mechanism in the frame. We contacted Norm and he responded very quickly and came out for an inspection and estimate. He mentioned we would have quite a wait to get it repaired. We totally understood, since everything was backed up after the pandemic. Amid the scourge of Covid-19 important work needed to be done and I contacted WindowRnR once again. Less than a year ago Norm and a large crew came out and repaired about a dozen windows on a mid century duplex in Los Feliz to rave reviews. This time the challenges of old wooden windows involved a 100 year old decaying set of windows. Norm gave me an acceptable price with really quick response. Diego and Jesse came out and it was truly a pleasure to watch master craftsmen at work. They dismantled, adjusted and literally rebuilt three windows in one day, including the replacement of classic "wavy" glass to maintain the character of my ancient lair. Amazing! They just completed restoring my living picture window and several original double hung windows in my 1908 cottage. They were professional, clean and efficient. On the day the work was to be performed the crew arrived early, carefully set up, prepped the work areas and diligently began what seemed like more work that could be completed in one day as I was assured. Not only did they accomplish their mission they finished early. I attribute this to excellent leadership, experience, preparation and respect for the property. I would have given Window Restoration & Repair 5 stars except that when the two workmen showed up *neither* had been vaccinated! Really? When vaccines are readily available and the new COVID Delta variant is putting even vaccinated people in the hospital?! I would have cancelled but we've been waiting for our windows since February. Both my husband and I are older, have auto-immune issues, and I have asthma and bad lungs - we've gone to great care to not risk exposing ourselves to COVID and then we have to share our home for 9+ hours with two workmen who have chosen to not be vaccinated. Other than that major faux pas, the windows are great, as was the workmanship. Norm was a pleasure to deal with, the workmen were pleasant and knowledgeable, and they spent a lot of time making certain everything was done to perfection. They really deserve 5 stars except for the COVID issue. read more

I have no doubt that they do an excellent job wherever they go. I am having a problem with a couple of windows having to do with the hardware. Came in here after looking for a small 35 cent part for a vinyl window hoping to find it locally vs. buying a pack of 10, 20 plus over the internet. I didn't know they weren't setup as a retail storefront or showroom so I caught the nice lady at her desk off guard. She kindly suggested a website to visit but soon invited me to the shop in the back to ask one of the guys. He was on break or taking out the trash but it didn't stop this kind woman to look around the vinyl window part bins. I just happened to look down and saw the tiny part I needed. She opened up the box, took one out and handed it to me. I offered to pay but she refused. I was impressed, not because I got a free 35 cent part, but at the service in which I received as some clown who walked in off the street. Imagine if I had been an actual paying customer for their window repair/restoration! After seeing the shop full of restored windows ready to be re-installed, I wish I would have stuck by my original wood windows in my 1950's home. Instead, I'm scouring the net for replacement parts for locally made windows made by a very reputable company with a "lifetime warranty". Now my windows are difficult to open and the company wants $75 to replace the balances for every pair of windows. My warranty never said any of this. I regret replacing my beautiful old windows for the new vinyl stuff but am happy to learn great companies such as this are out here fixing older windows and doing a great job keeping the character of these beautiful older homes and buildings. The added bonus is that these older windows stay out of the landfill. Thank you for your help. read more

This review is long overdue. If you need your historical windows working again, look no further. Every person I dealt with from this firm was outstanding. Everyone from Brigit at the office, Norm at the site visit and Nick and his crew on repair day all blew me away. Their dedication to great customer service and doing excellent work was so evident. They did an outstanding job restoring twelve 90 year old windows that were painted shut or in other forms of distress. Some even required new glass. They handled it all! All my double hung windows glide like butter now! It should be noted that the type of repair WR&R performs typically requires extensive sanding to ensure proper operation. Getting the windows fully restored to their original condition may require a skilled painter that specializes in windows after the initial repair is done. That was the case for my windows. I was referred to Ed Gonzalez Painting and sadly he was a nightmare to work with (more on that in a different review). The disappointment with Ed had nothing to do with WR&R. They simply had other customers work with him and they passed his name along. I can't fault WR&R for that but I did mention to Brigit and Norm my poor experience as a warning to other customers. The good news is I found a fabulous painter later and I couldn't be more pleased. Everyone that sees the windows and doors now comments how amazing they look. I can't thank Norm enough for guiding us through it all. We are very happy with our decision to repair rather than replace. PS. Don't confuse Window Restoration & Repair with another company called Windows Repaired and Restored. That is another company entirely and not as highly recommended. read more

We had a couple of very simple issues with two of our windows and so being the incompetent unhandyman that I am, my wife had to resolve the issue the usual way - finding a local service provider willing to fix simple problems while not totally crushing my ego because I am useless when trying to fix little things around the house. This incident happened back in January 2014. My wife found Window Restoration through Angie's list. She contacted them and they said while they normally don't focus on very minor issues, she would send someone out to take a look at our issues...pretty awesome since they are located in Los Alamitos and we're in Irvine. The day came for service and Norm Tuazon came to our home and was on-time (i.e., about 10 minutes before the scheduled meeting). He seemed like he had a busy schedule but wanted to check out the issues to see if it's something they would even want to engage on. Norm was very kind and informative about windows. He took a look at both issues and basically fixed the problems in about 5 minutes. The first issue was an old window lock part that had warped (so he told me that I can go to the local hardware store and buy a replacement) and the other was that the window just had to be shifted a little so that it would fully close. Upon completing the tasks, Norm was very pleasant and said don't worry about any charges as it was his pleasure to help us out...what a great experience! This experience once again proved to me how lame of a handyman I am and how there are still great service providers out there! Thanks WR&R! I was looking for someone to replace some glass panes on a window that had been broken. Although I didn't end up using Window Restoration's services, I wanted to leave 5 stars for the customer service they did provide. The windows I inquired about are on a house built in 1938. Scott called right away and told me what kind of windows they were, and that I could probably find a glass/mirror company to do the work. He stated they could do it, but are super-booked and would take awhile to get to it. I really appreciated the knowledge & expertise that Scott provided regarding the windows, and especially for taking the time to call me when he was not even expecting to get the job. We recently purchased our house, and I have been contacting a lot of different companies for a lot of different services and believe me - some don't even reply to inquires for business! Just had some of our 1920's double hung windows restored by Window Restoration and they did an amazing job! Had someone come to our home to initially inspect all of our windows. Norm was super friendly and very helpful and informative. Quote arrived within a couple of days and included everything that was discussed in person. Thumbs up to Norm! We had 4 windows restored yesterday: rope and pulley system fixed, latches installed, night locks installed, weather strips installed, and broken glass replaced. They came out great! Can't believe how easily operable these windows are once they are restored. They now can be opened from bottom to top as well as top to bottom which we had no idea was possible. Apparently this helps with air circulation and can help lower our temperature by 10 degrees during the summer! The guys that came to restore the windows arrived right on time (early, actually, as I could see them waiting in front of our house until the appt time). They worked diligently and professionally. One of "sell's" on the website is that the cost of a new window isn't worth it. The sales rep that gave me my estimate repeatedly mentioned how costly it would be to replace my windows. He told me that they can repair them so that they are almost as efficient as what you can purchase (they fail to mention that the windows are left prime ready ~ Priming and painting is costly guys). Almost all of my windows, which were in serious, were able to close well after the repair, but one other wasn't. One of my windows was left with a considerable gap ~ light would come in from this space, not to mention noise. When I mentioned it, a gentleman was sent who installed a rubber seal that fell off within days, and then replaced that with a custom clamp that was an average result at best. They're nice guys. If you have old wood windows maybe give 'em a shot. My experience with METAL CASEMENT WINDOWS left me wishing I had replaced what I had and not fallen for their sales tactic. read more
