We were in town for work and this spot one the group vote. Holy moly. It was fantastic. The location is great and the space is HUGE. They did an amazing job with the layout too and the large bar was gorgeous. I split the Mac n cheese and risotto with a friend and omg. They were both so packed with flavor and just so delicious. We devoured them. We also got one of every dessert on the menu to try, everything was fantastic. Service was great all night, they had an awesome cocktail menu. If you live in the area, this is a must try.

So I've been to Americana before and had a better experience, not sure what the deal was. Ambiance: Inside was laid back, clean, and the booth was very spacious. Service: To be there on a Tuesday evening, it was pretty empty and the service was not the best. It took the server longer than expected to even provide refills. Food: I tried the Cajun Chicken Gnocchi which I felt was overpriced and the Crab Rangoon dip. The food was just ok, nothing extraordinary about it at all. Out of both items I enjoyed the dip better but it was still missing something. Parking: I parked in the parking garage up the street and walked a couple blocks. There is also street parking. I don't see myself rushing back anytime soon.

Americana's weekend Bombshell Brunch Buffet lives up to the name and exceeds expectations. Come hungry and leave satisfied! Choose either endless eats for $27 or endless eats with bottomless mimosas/bloody Mary's/screwdriver bar for $42. There are several stations set up on the lower floor of the restaurant including part of the kitchen. Fresh fruits, salad and toppings galore can be found to make a healthy pre-gorge-fest plate. The breakfast options inside the kitchen were outstanding and I loved the cinnamon donut holes with Carmel sauce! The smoked pit ham was also very flavorful and was a nice touch of protein. Our server, Erin, was fantastic and recommended the homemade tomato bisque soup with a customized grilled cheese - a true comfort food delight. Erin was lively, prompt and a great host for us as we enjoyed our Saturday brunch. If you happen to have saved room for dessert (which I highly suggest you do!), definitely go for the custard and cheesecake! What a cute fun location to spend time with girlfriends on a Saturday morning!

Went Sunday PM for the burger night. Service was fast, the burgers were juicy and flavorful and the fries were cooked and seasoned perfectly. I also enjoy the fry sauce that came with them. Yum.

So busy on a Wednesday night! Our group of 12 sat upstairs. Waitress was quick to get drinks as we arrived & took our appetizer orders. The Caprese charcuterie board was beautiful and tasty as well! And you can't say too much about the Asian wraps! I really like them. The truffle fries were popular as well. Our orders came fairly quickly. I had to have what I did last year - - mac & cheese with shrimp. It came with a slice of bread and was delicious. I took home most of the pasta. Two friends loved their wedge salads and another had the steak medallions and said they were tasty. It was a little hard to get drink refills - - but like I said, they were very busy. It's a great place!

We were in town for a legislative recognition ceremony at the capitol... after the ceremony was done we asked for a recommendation for lunch, Americans was it and it was such a great recommendation!! Americans is very close and convenient to the capital and parking is also very easy for lunch. We had seven people in our party... service was phenomenal... Americana was not terribly busy, which is unfortunate because their food was fantastic. But was very fortunate for Ross because we had a nice spot to sit and we were taken care of very well by our server. The food was exceptional... We had a blend of a lot of different things. The Americana burger was recommended to us, and that burger was delicious and absolutely huge! I had the Pear and Gorgonzola salad with chicken.. it was absolutely huge even if they cut it in half. I don't think I could've eaten all of that... That was an extremely delicious salad perfectly tossed with a light salad dressing...just delicious. My niece had the truffle mac & cheese, and she said it was absolutely delicious and my sister had the bacon wrapped meatloaf and she was super happy with her choice as well. It was served with white cheddar mash potatoes and they were divine along with asparagus. If we ever get back to Des Moines... we would absolutely stop back to Americana was a great lunch and a great atmosphere... I'm sure it's happening place in the evening

Really awesome place here. Love the ambiance and the casual atmosphere. They have an excellent selection of cocktails and beverages. The food menu was tough for me to make a choice with so many delicious options. The hummus plate really hit the spot and I opted for a burger and fries and again a big winner. The staff is super friendly and helpful. I highly recommend stopping in.

My wife and I stopped here for dinner before a concert. We very much enjoyed the food, the service from our delightful server, and the ambience. The Nashville chicken was just spicy enough for me, but a little too spicy for my wife. No problem! I ate it all. She enjoyed her pear salad a great deal. And we both enjoyed some tasty locally crafted beverages. We will plan on a return visit next time we are in Des Moines.

Great restaurant in downtown Des Moines! Went here for my birthday and had a great time. I had a mule to start and it was really good. We had the crab rangoon dip and the glazed brussels for appetizers - both were great! I had the tomato cream pasta which was very tasty and then they brought us an actual cake since it was my birthday! Will definitely be back and I want to try their brunch sometime!

We came for a happy hour drink before going to dinner at the nearby Django. Our server was great and attentive. I had the Georgia Peach Mule and it was refreshing, with great flavor. I would come back for HH or dinner next time.

I was not happy with this place at all. I went in here with a group and I found it to be quite expensive for brunch($27 for brunch, $42 includes drinks of bloody mary/mimosa). My husband had one drink and because he refilled the drink with orange juice and my teen daughter took some of it, they charged him for the $42 price. The waiter, did not want to hear from us (he basically shooed us away), so we deducted it from his tip/ I also didn't think the food was so great. I ended up having salad and that was about it. I eat healthy and the choices here were not geared up for that (Grilled cheese bar, bacon, potatoes and more). I would have loved more fresh vegetables, fresh or steamed. And also, I only use oil and vinegar not the creamy dressings. This is a place I really didn't like and I wouldn't come back!

It's been a while since I've been here, but we came back today for their Sunday brunch buffet. It was very busy, but we got 2 seats in the back of the bar. We enjoyed their brunch selections and ate until we were stuffed. We had several different bartenders/waiters checking in on us. The restaurant feels upscale, but people were dressed casually. The interior was nicely decorated for Christmas. Overall, a bit pricey for us, but it's about what you'd expect to pay for a buffet downtown.

The food is always the best draw to go to Americana. I rarely do late night. So this was a change. I have had a lot of great experiences here but this one was just okay. First, we had reservations and when we arrived there was no record even though I had the confirmation email in my hand. They were able to get us in without and issue. Second, the restaurant was not full or overly busy and they sat us on the wall section between a family with 2 small children who past bed time and crabby and 3 teenagers who destroyed the table, talked loudly and basically had little respect for adults. Needless to say we looked longingly at the empty tables in other sections and later joked about the mood killing environment. The drinks were good but we would have liked the opportunity for a second, once we got through the meal. (No worries we did go somewhere else for a second drink). Food, again the food here is good. We ordered the pan seared chicken and a pear Gorgonzola salad with chicken. The the pan seared was good- batter was light and crispy and as expected. The Pear Gorgonzola salad however was lack luster and disappointing. The pears were not quite ripe and hard, the chicken was dry and over cooked and about half way through the salad was swimming in dressing and no longer appealing. I hate that this was my date's first time and disappointing. Like I mentioned, we did go somewhere else for a second drink. Cheers.

I moved to the Des Moines metro in 1992 and have been coming to Iowa Beef Steakhouse for years…read more Iowa Beef Steakhouse opened in 1982. It changed ownership in early 2015 when two previous employees purchased the steakhouse from the original owner. For me it's the quintessential steakhouse in the metro... That's not to knock any of our other long standing locals like 801, AJ's, Chicago Speakeasy, Johnny's, John & Nick's, The Big Steer, Rube's, Irina's, Jesse's, Trostel's, etc. Probably others I've forgotten to mention along with many other recent additions... We live in Iowa. We have some of the best beef in the nation! It's hard to throw a rock without hitting a restaurant that serves up a good cut of beef. Outside of the ownership and some slight changes to the menu (weights, additional items, prices) not much else has changed since I started coming here. Same signage, same building exterior, same dark hardwood walls and furniture, even the same carpet I think... It's an old school vibe. One of my friends had a recent trip to Mayo. When they were up there they called me and told me about a horror show of a visit they had with a chain steakhouse up there in Rochester. I listened and I probably smirked a little on the other side of the phone... I told them when they got back in town, had recovered from their procedure, I'd take them out for a good steak. To me Iowa Beef Steakhouse is the place to go. We were greeted right away at the host station up front as we walked in. A later dinner on a Friday evening... We were shown to a low topped table towards the rear half of the restaurant. Seating is low top tables and chairs for the most part along with a standard bar area and seating. After a short wait Jess came by and introduced herself and took our drink order (Pepsi products, wine, beer, and anything else you may want from the bar). The drinks hit the table after a couple of minutes and it was on to our food order. 1x fountain drink 1x unsweetened ice tea 1x large sauteed mushroom skillet 1x 16 oz ribeye (medium), with fries, and salad bar 1x 20 oz sirloin (medium rare) with fries, and salad bar They offer seven cuts of steak, pork chops, chicken, ribs and more. Served with a baked potato and salad bar. The salad bar is one of the better ones! Boasting standard lettuce and fixings along with multiple dressings. On to potato, pasta, coleslaw, cucumber and onion, broccoli, bean, pea salad, etc. Pudding and fluff. No more pickled herring though... Guess the demand for that one is no more. I used to grab a piece or two now and then. I kind of missed seeing on there, but mostly from a nostalgia sense. Lol They started offering burgers on their lunch menu after the ownership change in 2015! Don't sleep on these! One of the best burgers you'll find in the city. We were able to sub the baked potato choice for fries, but Jess warned us they have a pretty small fryer in the kitchen and when it's busy at dinner time it's at their discretion whether they can do this or not and it may not always be an option. I have an issue with some textures. Lumpy mashed poatoes being one of them...so it's really hard for me to enjoy a baked potato. No matter how good it is. Lol I'm just really glad they have a fryer again... They went a few years without one at all. Jess was a rockstar! Attentive. Quick on refills. Welcoming and she had a very enjoyable personality. The steaks were cooked perfectly to temp. In all my years of eating here I've never sent anything back to the kitchen. And even back in the day when they offered to let you cook your own I always paid the extra $ to let them take care of it for me... The mushrooms... Little morsels from the gods themselves! The fries and Texas toast. So good. Rochester tragedy not forgotten... But Iowa Beef Steakhouse restored their faith that meat can be cooked properly the first time and there is still exceptional service out there. Frankly..., I hope this place never changes! Subtle is fine... There's just something so comforting about walking into a place you have been coming to for over 30+ years and it's still like you remember it. Kind of like walking back into your parents' house when you come home for a visit, no matter how old you are, and your childhood bedroom is still pretty much the same. Another great visit to Iowa Beef Steakhouse... I know I'll be back...! https://iowabeefsteakhouse.com/

Although they have a salad bar here, this isn't the kind of place where you come for the salad bar. I'm not saying there's anything wrong with the salad bar, but it isn't very exciting. They have iceberg letter and a few toppings and a few standard dressings. Then there are the potato salad, pasta salads, cottage cheese, sliced and pickled beets, and sectioned peaches in syrup. No, chances are, you come here for the steak. They also have a bar area, and I'm told they used to allow people to cook their own steaks. Apparently, they cook all the steaks now, and that's okay with me. My wife ordered a ribeye and I got a New York strip. We didn't get photos because we ate them too quickly. We both ordered our steaks medium rare, and they came out fairly quickly. My New York strip was pretty thick. It was brown round the edges and red in the middle. My wife's ribeye was thinner. It was brown around the edges and pink in the middle. They were both very good. In fact, my steak was one of the most tender steaks I can recall eating, and I feel like I eat a lot of steak. The waitress gave excellent service, and addressed many of the other customers by name so I assume they were regulars. We enjoyed the meal and would definitely go back.

Train wreck-in every way. We flew into Des Moines from AZ and a friend suggested this restaurant…read more We arrived at 8pm for our 8:15pm reservation. There were two other tables in the whole restaurant so needless to say it was quiet. Our server was sweet but obviously not trained on efficient and fast service but was probably encouraged to run like a bunny when things go sideways. We ordered two glasses of wine and an old fashioned. Figured I just got off of a plane so why not get the evening going with some bourbon and have a Plan B with the glass of wine when I am ready. Two glasses of wine were delivered but no old fashioned. Who does this? Anyhow, old fashioned came out next. We ordered a cup of soup and a small salad to start with and then ordered a burger, medium, with fries and the pasta bolognese. The soup and salad came out but there was a long stretch of time before entrees came out. When they finally arrived the burger was very rare inside so my wife let the server know and she apologized and scurried off. I tried to wait but it was getting cold so I slowly nibbled. After 20 minutes, I flagged down our server and asked if the burger was coming out and she said "oh, do you want another one"? It was now 9pm and they were closing but we were not leaving until we enjoyed a medium burger. When the new burger came out, she said the "owner made it himself. We cut it in half to check the temperature it was still pink. How can an owner of a restaurant not know how to make a medium-medium well burger? And why didn't he walk out and deliver it himself and apologize? Not a word! My dish was finished and plate was gone while my wife finally had her burger. We had planned to eat together that was not going to happen tonite. She ate half and we took the rest of it to go. With wine, an old fashioned and the worst dinner experience, we spent $174 with tip. Huge mistake. Here is my tip: train your servers on how to take care of customers. To the cooks, invest in a thermometer if you can't tell when a burger is medium. To the owner, step out and make sure your customers are happy and enjoying your food.

I have been to New Orleans so many times and tried different variants of Cajun Alfredo pasta and I will say that this is one of the BEST I have had outside New Orleans. The pasta was perfectly cooked, flavored and balanced plus the portion was great. Travis was also very kind to knock out the sausage as I don't eat pork and substituted it with some chicken. I look forward to returning now that I have a spot to come back to!

Drinks before and after the show at RŌCA…read more The drinks were all fantastic. The Pig & Fig Manhattan was fantastic with Bacon Fat Washed Bourbon, sweet vermouth, and house bitters. Excellent start. She got the smoked margarita which was really cool and smoky. Don Julio Blanco, lime, Cointreau, Agave, and Apple-Wood Smole. Very decadent. After the show we got: The Polar Express O with Diplomatico Rum, Sweetened Condensed Milk, coffee topped with cold foam, and grated chocolate. Very boozy and strong. Didn't look very good in the glass, but tasted ok. Very strong. She choose the Cold Brew Martini and it was excellent with Ketel One Vodka, Averna Amaro, Madagascar Vanilla Bean Simple Syrup, and House Cold Brew Coffee. The service was great. Will be back for more drinks.
