Food was great. A bit overpriced, but it had nice decor. Maybe i'll give it another chance in the future but the other reviews here echo my sentiment and experience. I saw a billboard highway ad for Americano while driving home from work and didn't realize it was nearby, so decided to give it a try. Street parking was available. I'll preface this by saying I came on a weekday around 5 PM after work, so it wasn't particularly busy when I entered there were like 2 people dining inside tops. There didn't seem to be a dedicated host or hostess at the entrance, but a staff member eventually led me to the bar area and took my order. They didn't seem too enthusiastic but maybe it was a long day, who knows.. I ordered a salad, seafood, alcoholic drink, and dessert; I was a little surprised that the salmon didn't come with any sides. When I asked, I was told that sides had to be ordered separately. So I had to wait for my mashed potatoes to come in and by then my seafood had cooled off. That's fine, but I would've appreciated a heads-up when ordering rather than finding out once the entree arrived. The ambiance is very nice. I really liked the classic movie-star decor, the music fit the setting well, and I appreciated that the staff were appropriately dressed for the atmosphere. I'm a James Bond fan so it was nice seeing Sean Connery and Daniel Craig up on the wall. Those details gave the restaurant a polished feel for sure. The pricing, however, felt high for what you get, particularly for Bayonne... it was closer to what I'd expect to pay in Manhattan. I was also surprised by the automatic 20% gratuity that caught me blindsided. On top of that, the receipt still gives you the option to leave an "additional tip," which could easily lead someone who doesn't notice the automatic gratuity to tip twice. So I actually tipped twice unknowingly lol. I think the 20% charge should be made very clear to guests when the check is presented.. Overall, I would still recommend Americano, but I'd caution others to expect a relatively expensive dining experience for what it's worth. One final small detail.. I would've appreciated a simple "thank you" or "goodbye" on the way out. The staff seemed preoccupied, so I didn't make much of it, but at around $150 per person (see my receipt) you'd naturally expect the service to match the premium pricing. I'm also comparing this to local premium fine dining areas in the NJ area like Felina Restaurant, The Feathered Fox, The Maddy Rose, 87 Sussex, Sofia's Fine Italian Cuisine, etc, so as you can see there's a lot of competition that offers similar value, and I'd say what separates each are vibes and customer service since that's what you're paying extra for. It's the little details that count. Again, it's got great atmosphere, great potential, and it's a promising restaurant, but the service and value could be a little more polished for the price point. I visited Barista Bar by Americano this morning with my boyfriend and his mom. The coffee was amazing, and the food we ordered was good based on what was available at the time. They were out of bagels and Taylor ham, which we completely understood, and we had no issue ordering alternatives. Unfortunately, the service experience did not match the quality of Americano itself. The staff member who assisted us, Saya, came across noticeably less welcoming and accommodating toward our group compared to other guests around us. All three of us left feeling uncomfortable due to the way we were treated throughout our visit. That said, the ambiance was absolutely beautiful, and the space itself has so much potential for a great dining or coffee experience. If the customer service was at the same level of care as the atmosphere and coffee, this easily could have been a place we'd return to regularly and recommend to friends. read more

The bartenders made us incredibly drinks; I had the Vanessa and my husband had it I'legal. We shared the deluxe Focaccia with arugula, tomatoes & prosciutto. So delicious: freshly made focaccias in their wood fired oven right in front of us. For mains I had the Eggs Purgatorio and my husband had steak & eggs. Let me preface with I am a Jersey girl living in Miami. Whenever I come back home, I eat my body weight in Taylor ham, bagels and of course everything Italian! I was staying with a girlfriend in Bayonne and she suggested we go to Americano for dinner. Wow! Ambience is giving very much New York City and we loved it! We decided to sit at the bar to order food and cocktails. We ordered the burrata appetizer, margarita pizza, truffle and porcini pizza and if you thought we were done... you were wrong! We ordered a flatbread pizza with prosciutto and arugula. Service was a little slow... But it was a Friday night. I'm not complaining. Loved this modern speakeasy, so charming spacious, romantic and picturesque with amazing pictures of celebrities in fun poses. Great for a business meeting or a date. I went for lunch and the bartender started us off with espresso martinis at the bar, as they got our table ready. We started with the seafood tower that had shrimp lobster mussels oysters and scallops tasty and plentiful. We ordered the grilled octopus which I loved and also picked at a filet mignon that was cooked to perfection. Upon entering it was beautiful inside! It gives a James Bond/Casablanca vibe. Piano, waiters in white jackets and black bow ties, tall palm plants, velvet chairs, half moon booths with chandeliers over each one, and I could go on! Great for photos! And.....the food was delicious! We had the octopus app, a sirloin steak, lobster fra diavolo with linguine, roasted potatoes, creamed spinach and dessert. The decor, coffee/dessert bar and service are beautifully curated. However, outside of some pretty stellar desserts like the apricot filled croissant (which I love) the other foods are just ok. The pizza which is in my interpretation supposed to be Neapolitano tasted more burnt than it did "ashy" and I ordered a soup which was just ok. There were about 5 or so other groups celebrating birthdays so it was clearly the place to be lol As a party of 11, our server Jacob was very attentive and patient as we asked different questions about the menu (it was everyone's first time visiting). We ordered some apps to share (I was too hungry to snap those pics): calamari, charcuterie, and Caesar salad. I ordered the chicken parm (pictured) which doesn't come with a side, but I did take half home! To drink, I ordered the Goodnight, which was recommended by our server. Overall, I wouldn't come here daily as it is on the pricier side, but would definitely come back! I have a very discerning palate and love to cook. I always find something to complain about when we eat out. Well, I have to say, the food at Americano was just perfect. From the exquisite appetizer selection of burrata, oysters (priced well!), fried artichoke hearts, calamari (perfectly breaded), we could not find fault and only oohed and aahed at the deliciousness of every dish. The steak was just out of this world. I was able to cut the steak with my fork it was so tender. Eggplant parmigiana that was absolutely perfect. Do not leave this out of your selections. Oh my God- the desserts. Don't even get me started. The attentiveness and expertise of the servers was what you find in Europe at the finest restaurants. The owner, Lance, was there that night and overseeing everything like a family boss. You could tell the staff adore him and their work. Needless to repeat but, I will. What a lovely evening of old world Hollywood charm topped off with food that will have you feeling like you spent your precious time and hard earned money well. That's a rare gem in today's world. Updating my review and changing it to a one. We have been here multiple times and tonight was the final straw. We are always baffled by the prices but come back because we liked the food and even though it was expensive the food was always amazing. And the atmosphere is so classy yet cozy. Now the food is not amazing. It's boxed pasta for $31!!! The menu says homemade pasta. It's completely misleading. I took one bite of it and I'm like "this is from a box." Do not mislead your customers making them think they are paying for fresh pasta. Also if you want a side of pasta it's $14. If you want one piece of bacon it's $13. If you want to be ripped off come here. I used to put up with the prices because of how good the food is. Food is mediocre now and prices more expensive, I have no idea why it changed. Also service was slow and the wait staff kept dropping utensils left and right. So this is a lousy review because I can't comment on too much. But this is an unusual place with full valet parking, a cafe, and restaurant. I didn't feel well so ordered toast and my companion had some light snack. It was Easter so busy with the brunch crowd. But the pastries looked awesome and the restaurant is very elegant and bathrooms clean. I would love to try more of the menu. I'm torn about this place as I really wanted to love it being the only "nice" restaurant in Bayonne. Let's break it down. Service: considering the sheer number of servers I would have expected better. Our server spent 10 mins chatting with an outgoing guest before greeting us or asking us about drinks. She was literally right behind me, so I could hear their conversation. This left me a little annoyed at the lack of attention. The food was good the desserts were excellent. The staff was very hard-working very attentive. They really work hard on trying to be a good staff. I only had two small issues pet peeves I was seated in on a table where there was a pillar behind me, and on the right when the people sat there, I was trapped in there. Because on the left side of me was a Ice pale on a stand with two bottles in it I didn't like where I was sat in. I had to push the table away to get out The second thing is, I paid a lot of money for the lamb chops. I really expected to have mint jelly on the side. I was disappointed on that. Two minor things that could be Easley corrected but other than that the place is beautiful It is a little bit on the high price side, on some things but you have to take for consideration the rent pay, and the overhead as well all the money they invest in the place in my opinion, it was worth the money It was a good experience and I was very impressed I still don't understand why nj.com would give them such a low rating and give them such a bad review Especially when they just opened when nj.com just tore them a new ass for no reason it was unfair It was almost like nj.com has a lot of friends that may have to compete with americano used. Recently a friend came to visit and I decided to take her here for lunch. I am so glad I did because we had a fantastic time! Our server, Linda, was top-notch. Service was excellent! We were able to sit and catch up, enjoy our lunch and coffee, and really feel like our business was appreciated. I ordered the chicken scallopini and my friend ordered the bolognese. We shared, allowing us both to taste everything, and they were fantastic. After lunch we decided to splurge on a dessert. I should get the name of it but boy was it delicious! I had a cappuccino, my friend had a cup of tea. They brought the whole fancy teapot and gave her a choice of different teas. The place is gorgeous. I thought the ambiance was very nice. It's definitely a place where you could bring a date or have a special occasion dinner. Even the bathrooms were fancy. You don't usually see a place like this here. 3 stars goes to Ambiance, our server Alex and to a few of our orders. This gives an intimate feel, almost like old Hollywood, seating is beautiful, bar is amazing, restrooms are even nice. Servers are all in white blazers super clean look. Our server Alex, was awesome! He always was around checking up on us. He did make a mistake for a steak order which he fixed on our bill. That's a super plus! We had another server which I didn't catch his name, i love how they were constantly refilling our water and even the complimentary bread. (This was a group dinner of 7). The butter..omg..maybe it's garlic butter, but whew child..that butter with the bread. Chefs kiss! I tried the octopus and scallop app and both were delish! I think the seafood apps are a must. So good! I ordered Salmon, which when it came out the temperature was more on the warm/cold side. I wish it was a bit more warmer, just felt like it was seating there waiting for other entrees to be done. All of friends had no complaints with their dishes. Espresso Martini's..whew! They were amazing here! Abs love it. Price here is a on the expensive side--almost a little too much I think. Only thing I wasn't a fan of, was the manager came around and the chef was behind him--they kinda were pitchin' and trying to show (in my opinion sell) us the tomahawk and porter house steaks. They had the steaks on a plate wrapped in Saran Wrap to show the table the marbling and thickness of the meat. It just very much seemed like a sales pitch. They also didn't show the steaks to the smaller tables it just seemed they wanted to show it to larger parties. But that was the only time the manager came by our table to try to sell us a steak, not even to see how our food came out. When my wife asked for A1, he brought out beef gravy and claimed it was their "house steak sauce"... honestly felt like he dipped a spoon in beef stew and called it special. Steak: Completely underwhelming. Barely seared, mostly gray, weak grill marks. Zero steakhouse crust. Octopus: Spoiled. Sent it back. Outright smelled rotten from 4 feet away. The only saving grace: The gnocchi. Absolute 10/10. You can tell the pasta station is run by someone who actually knows their shit. Bill: $330 for two people. Food: 1 star for octopus, 1 for steak, 2 for salad, 4 for sides, 5 stars for pasta. Service: 2 stars. Overall: 2.3, rounding up to 3 -- but only because of the pasta. This spot takes itself very seriously - for better or for worse. I came with a large party in July on an evening with a live jazz band. You could tell that most customers were here for the band. It was incredibly loud and basically impossible to have a real conversation with my friends. Furthermore, the band was just ok. They played until around 9:30pm. We were here for many hours. There were periods of pretty attentive staff and then wondering where the heck anyone was. This delay was particularly felt by the end of the meal. The menu has a lot of variety, which made it tough to select dishes. I think I just ended up picking poorly. My salad was barely edible, overpowered by tasteless kale. My short rib pappardelle was also underwhelming. Those of us who ordered meat or seafood had a better food experience. The ambiance is quite elegant - though why is Cindy Crawford on the wall? - and the restaurant certainly has a presence. However, for me, this experience will definitely be a one-time thing, where most of us are still talking about how loud it was, because that was the most memorable part. read more
