Bullwhackers is definitely one of the smaller casinos, but good things come in small packages. First off, yes you have popcorn! I was equally excited to see that they had hot chocolate. Mind you, both were good so easily 3 stars for that. The staff was really nice as well. I signed up for a rewards card and was given a scratch ticket -- I automatically won $1! What a great start! (If only it was higher, but I'm not complaining about free money). The architecture was cool-- there's this gorgeous staircase that extends through all three floors. It made me feel so important, almost like Cinderella when she goes off to the ball with her prince. Okay maybe I'm exaggerating, but it was definitely cute. Sat at the bar for about 45 minutes but I had not seen a single server at or near the bar. About 5 PM the bartender showed up and after that drink service was great. It seems that the policy for most of these casinos is a max of one drink every 30 minutes. Free if you're playing. I was, so he offered me a couple of times that I could not accept; too much. I wasn't drunk but knew I would be driving but it was good that he offered. We stayed here for just a little while but left this casino to go to dinner. I would never post negative about a small business but I couldn't help but post about this large casino. Z Casino (Maverick) has not been the same under new ownership. We were not allowed to eat at the buffet because we didn't have enough points (we don't gamble) but then I asked (manager?) Lori Kane what they were going to do with all the leftover over food from the bronco game and she said they were going to throw it away. Wish they could have donated or found a better use for it. read more

We ate here on the 22nd of January thinking that the last time we had a great dinner of Prime Rib. Well this time (maybe because it was $3.99 Prime Rib night) it was not good. I ordered mine rare, I wanted it bloody, yet it came to me medium and cold to the touch. They said that was close as they could get it to rare. WTF really!?! The rest in our group order medium rare and they were like medium well. I'm thinking pay the $7.77 and you can get the steak at the temperature you really want. Also go early as they ran out by 8pm. We came here and my boyfriend wanted to make a little fortune and we had fun along the way. We chose this fun little game and we stuck to it. We had a waitress come out with a platter of these delicious, (Super stoner friendly) Macaroni bites and they were super greasy, crunchy, but typical pub style food. It's the best, right?? We were visiting on a night where it was not so busy and we enjoyed the thrill of spending some cash. We loved how the waiters were constantly coming and offering us snacks, beer, platters, drinks, and the full menu. We saved our appetites for the Lodge Casino a couple blocks down for dinner. Be sure to get your players card if it's your first visit there. After you play 5 points they hook you up with free play, prime rib dinner for 7.77, Free Starbucks or ice cream. The staff is really nice and the free alcoholic beverages come around a lot faster than most casinos. They also have free parking lot right across the street. This is a quaint clean and fun casino at the end of the road in Blackhawk. We always try to stop here because it feels like home to us. The mustang grille has awesome food at low prices. However our favorite snack place is the coffee shop. The staff are super friendly and very talkative and attentive. Highly recommend!!! read more

The lady behind the counter questioned my age, questioned my ID, didn't explain the player's card and didn't tell me where the ATM was located. I felt awkward passing by her after that. The food wasn't great but it wasn't terrible either. The games were alright and there's a variety so that's good. We are at a casino people and if we are winning we are going to be excited and making noise. Casino/Staff gets 3+Stars - Manager "Tony" gets ZERO My husband and I visit Black Hawk weekly and usually spend an hour or two at Z. (We usually start out here.) HOWEVER, we started our day off there last Friday afternoon. After each dropping $75 in slots within an half hour (playing .75 - 3.00 pulls) we decided to sit at the empty bar & play some .05 poker hands. After a few minutes the manager "Tony" walks up to the side of the bar and asks if he can get us something. So we order one cocktail and one beer. He quickly tells us "He will take care of this one, but if we want free drinks we need to play max bets." WTF? Over a 4.00 drink - just rubbed us the wrong way. Never been treated that way before. We are not high rollers but have spent at least 5K here in the past year. With SO many options , We will not be back.. Thanks Tony!!!! read more

Amazing staff and outstanding service!!!!!!!!! My husband and I go up to Blackhawk about 6-7 times a month and I have been sooooooooo happy at Z Casino! I play blackjack and love all the friendly dealers!!!! My favorite people who work there are the amazing waitresses Lucy and Roseanne and the pit boss James ROCKS! Those old reviews are just that, old. BlackHawk is changing. Z has (wisely) changed. The bigger casinos are so busy remodeling and expanding they have tightened their games so bad you don't win much at all anymore. They have to pay for all that construction somehow! Z is a much better place to have a fighting chance of going home with some and they take care of regulars much better. The staff is friendly, even kind. Place has been remodeled or taken over. Entire bottom floor blacked out, empty, except 2 pool tables and an inflatable bull. We were excited for santaigos but they are only open at night. This used to be a hopping joint but not any more. read more

Horrible experience! I give Z-Casino 2 Stars for the following reasons: I was excited to arrive, the parking lot was full which is a good sign! I am offered a ride from their golf cart shuttle but joke with the driver "I'll take a ride, but I can't tip because I have to get cash." He says ok and drives on w/o me. Not a big deal but set the tone. My players card is not reading so I go to guest services to get a new one. I'm informed about my free meal and to go upstairs to be taken care of. The staff is absent with a sign they'll be back in 10 minutes. I wait, no big deal, and then am told I have to go get the printed voucher, which I do (3 sets of stairs down!) By the time I return there is a line and they have sold out! But we came to gamble, so I shrug it off. I play a little, had two waitresses take a drink order while I'm playing slots and never returned even though I never moved! There are better casinos to spend my money in my opinion. read more

MUSTANG GRILL IS AWESOME! Not sure about the Casino, being there on a Wednesday and Thursday there were no table games going. The Mustang Grill however is a Diamond in hiding. The $7.77 Prime rib and the $3.99 on Friday are the same meal! Flavorful and complete with a fresh baked roll, choice of potato, and grilled asparagus it was Perfect both times. I did not expect it to be that good. They actually must have a great chef. Our waitress Kayla was sweet, smart, and prompt. I've eaten at the Lodge buffet and their prime rib doesn't hold a candle to The Mustang Grill. Try them next time you are up in Blackhawk. It is well worth your time! read more

The Mustang Grill is dinner and a show. Watching a dysfunctional waitress trying to run a 25 table restaurant that was only 1/3 occupied on a slow Saturday night kept us entertained for the 90 minutes we spent there. We were there specifically for the prime rib dinner so we weren't encumbered by the ridiculously bad circumstances. We watched many people walk out after waiting 10 minutes for the hostess/waitress to acknowledge them and then learning there would be a 20 minute wait to be seated in an almost empty restaurant. There was another girl sort of bussing tables but she wasn't really into it and seemed to lose focus easily and moved at a snail's pace. Every now and again a new employee would appear from the back and "help" by handing out menus or getting water and then we would never see them again. When I would hear a customer ask for something like a to go box or use a coupon when they paid their check it was a major ordeal for the waitress who often took several minutes to return to the table with the request even though everything in the tiny restaurant was literally steps away. I was actually grateful that snail girl only took 2 minutes to get us our utensils, napkins, and beverages we had ordered because she had already brought us our food and its hard to eat a baked potato with just a steak knife. Ultimately the food was good and I wondered if the waitress/hostess might actually also be the chef. We decided not to punish her for not being able to effectively run the entire restaurant by herself and left her a sizeable tip for our inexpensive dinner and we helped bus our own table by neatly stacking the plates and utensils in a pile.
