It was nice. Timberline Grill had good food. Slot machines are ok. Nice and spacious.

A fine location in Black Hawk, Colorado. Canyon views. A mountain feel. The pool was fabulous. I was there during the Memorial Day weekend and it didn't seem too busy. Hardly any screaming children. Outside rooftop deck with firepits were relaxing. Casino was decent. Spotty restaurants to choose from with some being good and others not so good. You take what you can get I suppose. I noticed it is somewhat of a food desert in the early morning hours from 3am to 7am. Overall a nice getaway from the big city. A mixture of spar relaxing, gambling and food. 4 stars!

First time stay at the Ameristar Black Hawk and I had a great experience and time! This is my bestie's favourite casino and she frequents it often. She suggested we all go up for a couple of days to hang out and relax and rejuvenate since my first visit to Black Hawk involved a birthday celebration, too many shots, and no good memories. We arrived during a rush so valet and the front desk was a bit hectic. Valet was missing Sergei who would have made sure everything was running smoothly. The front desk was swamped with a line of about 15-20 guest groups. They recovered by bringing out a couple more desk clerks and the line moved quickly and we got up to our room. The two queen room was on a high floor away from the elevator. The rooms are spacious as is the bathroom. Love that the rooms have a water closet for privacy. I love the mission-style decor throughout the hotel, casino, and rooms. Our first night included a spectacular dinner at Timberline (which I already reviewed). We received excellent food and service at Timberline. I would go back in a heartbeat! After dinner we sat in the bar and enjoyed cocktails and the DJ spinning. Music and atmosphere were on point. The bestie is the gambler in the family so we headed up to the room and called it a night. Bed and pillows were so comfy and loved that the AC got the room nice and chilled. Slept great. The next day we enjoyed the pool and hot tubs on the 34th floor. It was perfect hot rubbing weather: rainy and chilly. We chatted with some nice people also partaking of the amenities. We followed up by having lunch at Fireside Kitchen and enjoyed another great meal. Our server was great and our food was delivered by a robot which was hilarious! We hung out on the casino floor and did some lookie-looing and drinking for a couple of hours before heading out and back down the mountain. Thank you, Black Hawk!

I really like this casino- it's the perfect balance between "laid back" while still being upscale. My friend even brought me to this "club 48" to eat dinner one night while we were there, though I have to admit I was quite disappointed that the food overall was very "meh." However the rooms are quite nice and I'd totally stay here again!

Was told early check im would cost me when it was 150pm. Other guests were allowed to check in right after me before 2pm free of cost. Not sure if i was being targeted but sure wasnt a pleasant experience.

Ask the Community - Ameristar Black Hawk

    Does this casino have roulette?

    Yes

    Does the casino allow smoking?

So, there is no smoking in any Colorado casino, but they do have nice smoking patios with heaters. Also, the hotel itself recently went completely non smoking in all of their rooms.

    How loose are the slots?

On a Friday or Saturday night the red one's are hot, but check to see if someone won recently. If so, then they will likely be cold for a bit. It all depends on amount of people playing, weekends are better.

Update: Went back yesterday for dinner and I see what some people are complaining about; from the time I got seated it took a good 20 minutes before the waitress took my order. In her defense, she was by herself and she was acting as hostess/waitress/cashier/busboy and the place was pretty busy...I didn't hold it against her, they need more help. Also, there's a lot more slot machines here than I thought. My guess was that they had a couple dozen, but it's more like 100. Always somebody playing, so I guess some people like to play here.

Actually, everything on the menu was super reasonable and they were busy for dinner on a Thursday night. Our server Aggy was amazing, the restaurant area is not huge but she ran it like a champ. Provided topnotch service and remembered all of our orders accurately without any notes. She was the only one running the show while we were there. She also celebrated her 22nd anniversary working at Red Dolly the night we visited the restaurant. The prime rib was thin-ish but delicious, baked potato was creamy, the dinner came with a potato - mashed, baked or fries - of your choosing, or you can pick onion rings. It also came with a side of green beans, a small roll and horseradish sauce. All in all we had a great time at the Red Dolly at the end of the town and would highly recommend their prime rib special for anyone looking for a tasty deal. Thanks Aggy for taking care of us and happy work anniversary!

Let me tell you about this place…read more.. The frustration started the second we checked in. There was absolutely NO ONE at the front desk. And I don't mean for a minute or two... we waited 10-15 minutes before anyone finally showed up. Once we got into our room, it honestly just felt... dirty. I'm pretty sure the carpet has been there since dinosaurs roamed the Earth. The whole room just had that gross, grimy feeling. The customer service didn't get much better. Around midnight, I called the front desk to ask if they had feminine products. The gentleman on the phone said, "Yes, just come down to the front desk." So down I went... only to find myself standing there waiting. Again. After about 10 minutes, I noticed a sign that said to call a number if no one was at the desk. I called and was told no one would be there until the morning. Seriously? Thankfully, another employee happened to walk by and told me there *should* be feminine products in a few of the vending machines. Great! Except... nope. I checked three different machines, and not a single one had any. By this point, I felt like I'd walked a marathon. You know how casino hotels are... everything is somehow a mile away. I ended up rushing over to a different casino and made it with about five minutes before their store closed. The entire stay was one frustration after another. Between the lack of staff, the dirty room, and the poor customer service, this place was a huge disappointment. I won't be staying here again.

The bartender was friendly and chatty, and was from another country so he was eager to talk. They have a two part building, with a nice large downstairs too. The brewery has been going for over thirty years, which is a lifetime for this industry. The beer selection was fairly limited compared to the dozens you get at some breweries. They had basically one offering of each type (stout, ipa, lager, ect). There's recipes seem to have been going for years and they have all sorts of old labels from decades ago. Lots of video poker machines if that's your thing, and a cool swag shop. The rest 2/3 of the building is more your typical independent casino. I opted for the Chocolate Stout, and it was fantastic! Never know what you'll get with a new brewery but this was a nice dark beer with lots of malt and sweet Carmel flavor. One of the top stouts I've tried, and I've had a lot! In those early days, Dostal was a place where people came for a good pizza or sub and enjoyed a little gaming on the side. It was part of the community. Unfortunately, the place today feels like a shell of what it once was. The food has always been average, which is something many customers can accept, but poor and disrespectful service is never acceptable. I brought my concerns to the owner, Lisa, hoping they would be taken seriously, but the response was disappointing and dismissive. It's unfortunate to see a longtime local establishment lose the character it once had. Good food and good ownership go hand in hand, and when both are lacking, customers notice. After many years of supporting Dostal Alley, I won't be returning. Farewell, Dostal Alley.
