The room, the hotel, the pool and the casino were all great. The problem was that on arrival the attendant behind the counter was incredibly rude. The tone he used to speak to us was one of complete boredom, as if we were disturbing him. I asked if we had parked in the correct location and he just stared at me and asked, "Ae you parked underground?" I said no because none of the parking is underground. I tried to explain where we had parked and said that there were a lot of traffic cone blocking sections of parking but no signs to tell us up, down or customer parking. He said while looking away, "I'll talk to the president." The younger man behind the counter was obviously embarrassed for him and jumped in to help. The first guy was rude and dismissive from the beginning. I didn't understand how I had insulated him before I got to the desk. When I went back to the counter to borrow a luggage cart, the younger guy stepped in before the first guy could speak. The first guy mumbled something under his breath and turned away. The casino is great! The hotel and rooms are amazing but the same cannot be said about the buffet. The service was great! They were on top of getting things cleared and drinks refilled, but what the buffet offered was lacking. For the price of $48.99 per adult there was not a great deal of variety. For that price I expect amazing different items and this was not the case. On top of being over priced for a very small and limited selection, the food that was offered was bland, lacking any flavor. First, we always go to the rewards center for a card. Usually they give you free play and we can get points. They asked me for my email, I gave it to her. She said that's not a valid email. What? I use that email everyday. All of a sudden its not valid? So I couldn't get a card. Strike one. So we wanted lunch. Every place is closed except a ramen house. Why in the world wouldn't a 24 hour casino have a 24 hour coffee shop type restaurant? We are not ramen fans, but we looked at the menu. They have other things. OK great. We walk up and wait and wait and wait. Making eye contact with a lot of workers. Finally my husband goes up to a waitress clearing tables. She sat us and we ordered. I got a chicken salad. Guess what? Its a scoop of chicken, mayo and onions. Thats it. Well yeah I guess that's chicken salad. I thought it would be an actual salad. Hubby got a rice bowl and was unlike any rice bowl we have ever seen. So not completely happy with what we got, but I guess its what we ordered. Jeez, where to start? The layout of this place sucks, elevators from parking garage are separated from the main building by a half-mile walk. I'm disabled, use a walker, so I had to wait for an attendant to unlock the elevator to the main floor, like, with the amount of disabled/wheelchair bound folks in here, why is that even a thing? Took over a half-hour to get through the long line to get checked-in, strong weed smell in the halls, room was clean, but the TV had something wrong with the picture, way too dim, and the channel line-up was dismal, half the channels weren't available. The food options were majorly disappointing, this place used to have a great buffet/food court, but Covid killed that, apparently. We ate dinner at the Timberline Grill, INCREDIBLY over-priced and they fancied themselves some kind of steakhouse, so everything was ala carte, $10 for a FREAKING BAKED POTATO? In addition to my $68 ribeye, which was served with a roasted jalapeno(?), it came with a raw section of unpeeled scallion. ONE other restaurant on the premises, which I wasn't going to take a chance on, based on their prices, and a Starbuck's, not known for their stellar food. We went to the Lodge for breakfast, and spent the day driving around the mountains, but we could have stayed home and done that. Overall, a miserable experience that we won't repeat. read more

Spent an evening there with family and my 14 month old granddaughter. I was concerned that she may not enjoy the trip at that age. I was pleasantly surprised that she actually enjoyed seeing all the lights and glitter of the whole town. She enjoyed swimming with her daddy in the huge pool. Food wasn't bad but expensive of course. We did not however enjoy gambling in the casino. The Slots are confusing and when you think you are making a dollar bet it ends up being 6 dollars or more. We all dropped a lot of cash and pretty much left disappointed. Next time we'll try some smaller casinos up the road. read more

It was a really nice hotel with a big room and huge bathroom. Place was clean and nice. Unfortunately they didn't fill the body wash before we checked in. Rooms do run cold, but they give you nice blankets if you ask for them. We were also woken up at 8:45 AM by housekeeping at our door. BUT - the pool area is gorgeous and so nice! Very relaxing. Several years ago this was our go to casino hotel in Blackhawk. We visited the casino today. What a disappointing experience. Nothing has really been updated or remodeled in the casino. It looks tired, worn and old. The machines are mostly the old style. Carpets are worn and dingy. They added a sports book but that is about all they have improved upon. I'm glad we didn't stay in the hotel. They sure haven't tried to stay up with their competitors. It's sad because they used to be the pinnacle of luxury in Blackhawk. read more

The casino is very clean and the staff is extremely friendly. The casino bar staff does a great job servicing drinks when you are playing. The room wasn't ready and was filthy Al's they charged my card $100 for damage deposit for the 2 nights I stayed there promising me I'd be refunded the full amount Instead they only refunded me $50 claiming resort fees! I really enjoyed it here! The casino was a blast! The bartenders were fast and nice! We ate a snack when we arrived at the Centennial Market. They had lots of options! The taco trio was mine and I loved it! The carnita was the best, then the Barbacoa, then the chicken. Rooms were clean and surprisingly big! The bathrooms were so nice! Cool casino reminds me kind of of Caesars in Vegas but More country style.It's kind of crazy that they have the same ID scan as the airport I guess that's just normal now because of Covid. I was really hungry when I walked in there they did not have any non-meat options which kind of sucked. So we ended up leaving. The hotel was nice and quiet, the room was large, clean, beds were comfortable. Spacious bathroom. Check in was quick. The elevators are fast, it is always the worst when the hotel elevators are extremely slow and all you do is want to get to your room. There's no smoking inside the casino and that makes such a difference, I love walking through the casino and not smelling like smoke or breathing in all of the second hand smoke. It's a bit of a drive to get to the hotel but worth every mile of it. We stayed for 3 nights and being away from the city made it feel more like a vacation. The staff was all friendly and helpful. Ameristar used to be the only place I would stay in Blackhawk however after last weekend will not be back. The customer service at this hotel has almost completely dissolved and each employee we dealt with seemed like they didn't care to make it any better. The buffet was absolutely gross. The lack of flavor blandness was bad enough but even their "star player" the crab legs were dry and stringy. I wouldn't pay $10 for it let alone $50. Then on Saturday morning around 10:30, the fire alarm sounded in the hotel, while I was in the shower. We all rushed to the stairs and exited the hotel as the employees stood around, smoked cigarettes, and talked amongst themselves. We waited around half hour and then saw people going back in even though no one had made the announcement it was safe to enter. When I complained the front desk the next day, they said it was a medical emergency where they had to bring in flight for life even though we never saw or heard a helicopter. And when we entered our room again, it smelled slightly smoky. Seems like if there had been a medical emergency, rather than sounding the alarm and having everyone rush out, they would want to keep people in their rooms and out of the way of emergency responders. The rep said they would go ahead and credit us $20 off the $400 room bill for the inconvenience. Thanks Ameristar, you made my decision not to return quite easy. read more

Awesome casino. Unfortunately, none of the casinos at Black Hawk were allowing table games to be played at the time but Ameristar had the next best thing. Electronic table games connected to a live dealer! Of course the usual electronic games are also everywhere. Since this visit the owner had reached out to let us know that table games are back! So if that's your thing then you're in luck. Atmosphere is great and would be happy coming here again. Stayed here for a night in a wedding block. My main complaint was that there was no late night food options / room service. We were starving after the wedding and had no where to eat at the hotel. We had a joining room (the other room was not with us) and it was incredibly noisy but the room itself was very clean. The staff was incredible, though and that made the stay worth it. The Barstool Sportsbook is truly amazing! It is so nice and would be incredible to watch a big game there. We plan on staying again simply for the sportsbook. Definitely a top option for lodging in Central City. read more

We stayed here on a Sunday night and had a nice experience because they let us check in very early. The hotel was pretty clean but the pool and hot tubs could use some attention but it also was spring break. It is a bit outdated of a casino and the parking garage was complete chaos but all in a good, a fun weekend adventure! read more

Summary: not great, but not the staff's fault. More below... The good: clean room, nice view from high floors, nice dining options, and a good central location among the other casinos in the area. The bad: the entire place is clearly understaffed. The folks we met were friendly and doing their best. But 90% of the problems clearly are management's fault. Among them: long lines at the front desk, no one answers calls to the desk, long waits at empty restaurants, difficulty getting a drink in the casino unless you are literally sitting at the bar gambling, and no working internet / wifi in the hotel. Also: I've never seen such a mess when it comes to parking garages. Literally 99% of cars parked outside of the lines, huge trucks in compact spots, clueless drivers and pedestrians walking without paying attention, etc. Be super careful in the parking garage. Since it's the most expensive of the hotels in town, I'd recommend skipping it. Side note: unless you love to gamble, I'd recommend skipping the entire Black Hawk / Central City region. Colorado has SO MANY nicer places. read more

Man what a disappointment. The hotel and casino looked so promising. I booked a room for the weekend. The room was nice but smelled awful. Tons of smoke and marijuana smells. The casino wasn't fun at all. No staff available for drinks and tables were all $25 minimum. We ate at two different restaurants inside the hotel and both had overpriced, stale and bland food. I would recommend going anywhere else. We drove to Central City and it was so much better. Save your money and avoid Ameristar. read more

Many hotel/casinos get rated by people on a bias, based on their winnings and losings. This is not one of them. I have stayed here probably 20 times since they opened. I'm not sure how they managed to pull it off but I don't think they have renovated since they opened and it's still an above average stay. I'm sure linens and such have been updated but the chairs and furniture in the room remained the same. I would say the rooms are clean but still wiped it down to feel COVID safe. A few things about the area have changed due to COVID. Check in- Long lines with only one or two people to check you in. Not a good first impression. Come early and they will check you in early. No bellman service. If you need a luggage cart, you leave your DL with the front desk and get it back when returning the cart. Pool- I didn't use this trip because they are limiting the hot tub to one party at a time. Not waiting in line. Buffets- They are open (around town), but with a limited menu, shorter hours and higher prices since pre COVID. Breakfast- I prefer early and Fireside kitchen opens at 7am. I usually eat at Seasons Buffet at the lodge across the street for breakfast but they don't open until 10am now and the prices have doubled. Half capacity at Fireside so plan on a wait. 30 minutes to an hour tops generally. They will text you when the table is ready. Casino Capacity- Limited, get your hand stamped and do plan on some sort of line to get in, even early on a Friday morning. Yes, on temperature checks. High Limit- Yes, they increased max bets. I saw $5,000 at craps on a Thursday night. Sports Book- They switched the middle bar center casino to the new Barstool Sportsbook. Didn't see much action going on in there but it does look like you can still sit in a comfy chair and chill out. Rooms- Giant soaking tub and stand-up separate shower, big bathroom, comfy bed, in room safe and mini fridge. A note on the mini fridge. It doesn't get cold like your home, so if you need temperature controlled for leftover food, medications or something it will go bad in there. Versus the new Monarch- I will stay there eventually but right now they our gouging on prices. Resort fee here is $12.99, there is $29.99. Also, Monarch buffet is $50.00 and if you want the seafood, it's another $10.00. Here they have the Asian buffet. Not sure because I didn't eat at it, but it sure sounds limited to me. Still overall a great value and very nice hotel! I'll be back, I'm sure. read more

I had a really enjoyable overnight stay at the Ameristar. The lobby is beautiful and the check-in process was fast and easy. Our room was very spacious, the bed was very comfortable, and the bathroom was amazing. Not that I used it, but there was a huge bathtub, and the extra large glass shower was great. It was nice to take a nice warm shower after a long day of hiking. The hotel offers lots of amenities such as a spa, rooftop pool, jacuzzi, fitness center. Unfortunately, we didn't have time to take any of those in. I do wish we had ventured up to the rooftop pool, sounds like the views are amazing. There is a Starbucks on site, so that was a great option for a coffee and a quick bite on our way back to Denver. read more

We got a room due to barstool reward so figured we would check it out for the weekend. The rooms are so spacious, nice, and clean. I loved the softness of the king bed along with the pillows. It was so comfortable. The bathroom was fantastic with its full bottles of lotion, soaps, and shampoos. If you forget that no worries at this place. Loved the magnified make up mirror as well. So for the casino now. It's spacious and the service is really great. You will get drinks fairly regularly here. Really liked how nice and informative the wait staff was. Loved they have the mychoice kiosk everywhere as well. That was super nice. It's a great casino. Only thing that is a downfall is those damn elevators. We waited 10 minutes just to get an elevator down. It's insane. A serious pain in the butt. But that's it. read more

Amazing casino and luxurious hotel attached. Starts the moment you get there: self park for free on level 5. Before you gamble eat something at the fireside grill, really good mash potatoes and roasted meats. Head down and start gambling! They have 10 dollar tables for black jack if you wanna start low. Poker tables amazing according to my partner, the best in town. The hotel stay was great. The check in is easy, and they even upgraded us the the highest level: 32. Level 34 is the indoor pool, it's heated! There are fire places just outside the pool, though not with a view. The beds are nice and comfy, big bathroom with tub and shower next to each other. Ok , so not a whole lot to add bit there are a few things to be said. They have remodeled the center bar area with a lot of neon it's nice and not an eyesore. We came on a Saturday nite and there was a lot of traffic but it was not annoying. Seemed like a relatively younger crowd but that was ok. In all honesty we just went to Vegas in October and out of all the casinos up here this one had the most "vegas" feel. The other thing that has changed since we've been here is the somewhat " child friendly " eating areas. They are non existent other than the Fireside Grill/Restarant. Minors can no longer walk through the casino . I understand this is not an amusement park but it would be nice to have options to eat with your children if you bring them up to enjoy the pool. I went up with my beau on a Friday afternoon for 5 hours and probably the second most luckiest time ever in my life that I have not lost money. Won $400 that day:D Any casino is a place to have some fun, to win or lose some. Definitely a good once in a blue moon type off fun. Their buffet here is closed. Only their restaurants are open and the deli has a limited menu. Be prepared to get ID checked and temperature scanned. Must wear mask whole time while there. Bars are closed. The first room we checked into was ok. My husband went to get ice and the machine was broken. He had to go to another floor to get some when he returned there was an overwhelming smell of some type of wax smoke in the hallway. He is extremely allergic to it. We immediately went to change rooms and they accommodated us but when we went to have dinner at the restaurant he felt extremely ill. Ruined our first night and then they wouldn't accommodate us another day. The front desk was nice but the hotel isn't the best. Weird people and weird smells. Also only buffet on the weekends which we were not there for. We had to go and eat somewhere else. Will not return here again. read more

We git trapped in the elevator when it dropped 25 floors and the Supervisor and Desk Associate laughed at me and told me I was being dramatic for insisting they close down the elevator. Very inappropriate and I would never suggest coming here. Stairwells filthy. Blood, Knives, Cigarette butts everywhere. The rooms smell awful and the power kept going out in our room. This hotel is obviously very poorly run. Buffet is closed. If the spa amenities were stoked this would be the only reason to return. Really a let down for a CO staycation. read more
