I reached out to Ametron for a same day rental of a mic stand and microphone. Their rental specialist was out sick for the day but they made arrangements for him to call me directly and set up the rental agreement and then he called and set it up so another associate could help me even though he wasn't going to be available. Their pricing was super reasonable. After arriving, an associate even came back early from lunch to assist me because I needed to make some changes to my rental. The process didn't take super long and in the end they even helped me make the most aesthetic choice for the project I was trying to complete. I will definitely be back for my next rental. read more

My friend told me about this place and highly recommended it to me I went with him and he knew his way around.. we picked up a few small items at the time and all seemed good.. I went back on my own and that seemed to be where the trouble started .. Some of the staff had done a disappearing act ...now this place was fairly big .. Would highly recommend coming here for a rental and working with Brendan. He went above and beyond to make sure my team and I understood what we needed and what the best options were. Quite frankly we are in the health and vitality, fitness space so we went in very blind lol not knowing a thing about how complex audio equipment for events actually are. We appreciate his patience with our confusion and we slowly made our way to the best questions to help us uncover what we actually need. Maybe 3 1/2 stars for inventory and items to be purchase here. As long as you know what you need, like connectors, wire, cables for audio and video, they are cool. Once you need advice most of the guys suck. There is this older Pilipino gentleman who has been working here for ions (maybe 15+ years) who is exceptionally helpful and showed me a couple items for comparison and shared some good ideas for connection to the TV. Needed to hook up newer AppleTV to older TV. They were out of stock of what I actually need to convert HDMI to older TV. But, I got my box of CAT 5e cable and some connectors, Done. read more

I tried so many electrical and lighting stores. i told them my concerns and time restraints and they came up with a solution ++. I had a LED makeup light used for Instagram posts and seeing an artiste's face or zoom lighting that had a damaged power supply. The sales team had everything I needed as soon as I got there so I could make a quick purchase. These guys have so many obscure pieces of equipment that are life savers for last minute music or film needs. That being said, everytime I come in there and politely explain what I need, it doesn't matter who it is, they are super annoyed and rude, as if me coming there is an inconvenience. Just the other day I showed the man at the counter what type of cable I needed and he acted like I was speaking an alien language and rolled his eyes. Pretty odd customer service policy so I really only come here if I have no other choice or guitar center and Sam ash don't have what I need. read more

I am very sad to have to write this review, because some of the staff working here in the sales department are very nice and have been super helpful. (Mike and John.) but my recent visit to Ametron has made me an unsatisfied customer. First of all, they used to be able to move faster, and now a simple microphone rental took 1.5 hours, probably because they don't have a functional printer to print all the paperworks. I rented a microphone from them on Saturday night, on my contract, the notes read "return before Monday 10am" so I said "okay I'll bring it back tomorrow." to the check out clerk, and came back on Sunday during the day to return it and found out that their rental department does not open on Sundays, which I was not informed of at time of this rental, nor was there any mention of it in the contract. (I have rented from them before and always been told to bring it back in 24hours, otherwise call to inform them) So after my first failed attempt to return the microphone, I left the store and called the rental department, no one picked up, there was no voicemail option, I then went onto their website to send an email explaining and apologizing that I didn't realize they don't open on Sunday's, and my work schedule only allowes me to come during lunch breaks on Monday to return it instead of 10am. And when I went back again on Monday during lunch, and explained the whole thing, the insensitivity of the staff threw me off. When I mentioned about the email I sent, The response I got was something like: "sorry that's not the email of our department. I have to charge you for another day. " How am I supposed to know if I go on Ametron.com, click "contact us", click "CLICK HERE to email us" would eventually send my email to the WRONG DEPARTMENT? I tried asking and calling for a supervisor, no luck. And was then charged for another full day of rental. So overall, the staff move very slowly here, rental department does not open on Sundays. Even though it says hours of operation here. Also email link online won't necessarily lead you to the right department, which they will not honor if you are unlucky like me. I went in today, new store to me, saw some luke-warm revues beforehand. Two guys greeted me, the one more knowledgeable for my item took me to the rack in back and searched for it. We couldn't find the correct switch so unfortunately no sale. But he did recommend another music shop close by that I went to and they had the switch I needed. If you want a box of 150 Ft of Cat 5e or parts for making your own cables and know EXACTLY what you need they're adequate and chances are it's likely in stock. Prices for bare bones components are fine. Found a reasonably priced hi to low impedance converter box that I needed in a pinch. BUT If you need actual service or have a question or need something that requires human interaction like a rental? Forget it. Go somewhere else, like PacRad or even Fry's (if they don't know they'll at least be nicer about it). You'll get nothing but angry old men here who can't be bothered to look anything up, speak with civility, or answer honestly. read more

I *think* I have learned my lesson now. After two separate incidents where I've needed a not-very-common electrical and a/v component, I made several vain visits/searches at other chain electronics stores of the more common variety, and it isn't until I was told about this place that I knew that there is no reason to even bother going chain store location hopping and just make one stop here. I find it a blessing and a curse that 90% of what they sell/rent there is beyond my electrical understanding. If I did have a little more know-how with that stuff, I'd be like a kid in a candy store totally geeking out finding the 3' cable for this instead of overpaying for a 6' cable of the same sort at Best Buy or figuring out how to find the right parts to fix the power button on my TV remote control. I'm perfectly happy bringing AC adapters with its cable torn in half and asking for a replacement, or asking for what's becoming an obsolete piece of equipment without getting a blank stare and a response along the lines of "I've never heard of that thing before!" in asking for help, because I know I will find exactly what I need. Everyone that I've encountered there are super friendly and helpful, and really know their stuff without being snobby about it. Based on others' reviews of this place, at a quick glance at what they were selling and for how much, I don't think their prices are expensive compared to other brick and mortar stores. If you're astute and patient enough to shop online, we all know that the best bargains on this stuff resides there, but for someone who needs an immediate fix and instant gratification, I'm happy their prices are no more than your big box chain retailer. Perhaps on a slow day, I'll go there and just walk around the sales floor hoping I may absorb some knowledge and figure out how to make a motion-sensitive video security system with lasers. It's nothing that I really need, but I'm sure I can find everything I need for such a project there if I wanted. read more

I'm super psyched to have discovered this place. The staff are knowledgable with A/V equipment and electronics (and hell, any topic you bring up, really) in ways that's hard to find in today's retail market. And the store is chock-full of cool stuff that makes you just want to wander around for hours. I came in my first time for a $40 case and after talking with my salesman for awhile that led to a great deal on a Blue Bottle and cap kit that I was about to get from Sweetwater but went with Ametron instead after they beat Sweetwater's best offer by over 3K. Then, after I paid off that mic I got another of the same, since it was such a good deal. And while dropping in to make a payment my salesman "Michael K." showed me a matched pair of Neumann M149 tube mics behind the glass case. After I finished paying that 2nd Blue Bottle off I put some money down on the Nuemanns. Happy to say, I just picked them up today and so after going in for that $40 case over a year ago I've now spent about 16K on mics that would have cost me many thousands more had I not discovered Ametron. This place has everything you need for a good price but the customer service is seriously lacking. I came buy with the exact specifications I needed for a new adapter for my piano keyboard and three people pretty much ignored me when I asked where I could find the wall of adapters. I should first say that I have never set foot in this store, my review is purely based on a conversation I had on the phone today with one of the sales representatives. I am thinking of getting a glidecam and wanted to know if they had any I could see so I could decide which I wanted. Ametron was listed on the glidecam website as being a distributer, so I called them up. I ride public transportation everywhere, so I tend to call ahead for stock. This is how the conversation went: Me: Hey, I was wondering if you had any glidecams in stock? Salesperson: No. Me: Would you have one on display for m- Salesperson: we don't sell that here. (starting to get angry at me) Me: Your store was just on the glidecam website so- Salesperson: NO And then he just hung up on me. I don't know if they were busy and he wanted me to get off the phone, but he could have politely said they didn't have any. I am sure that not everyone there is like that, but that conversation really turned me off to the company and I've never even been inside the store. read more

Went to Ametron for some amateur recording stuff after the usual harrowing experience at Guitar Center. Within 5 minutes they had saved me $100s, offered a scalable option should I want to go more pro in the future, and gave me a bunch of very important "don't do's" that I doubt the GC staff would even know. For my needs, the perfect combo of Guitar Center's pro audio and Radio Shack. Would highly recommend a visit if you've got particular needs but can't find a solution. read more

The most down to earth A/V place I've been to in Los Angeles. I've tried a bunch of places lately and must admit this place is my favorite for audio equipment hands down. I'm a browser-- I tend to find things I need as I walk around a store and Ametron made it easy. I hadn't ever been there before and was a little apprehensive about dropping a lot of cash on my first visit, but I needed gear and I needed it quick. They were keen to help me get what I needed and it was a relatively quick and painless process. My salesperson knew his gear and stock, was friendly and didn't make me feel like I was a complete idiot (which they like to do at some other places in town) when I was asking questions he had heard a thousand times. I was pleasantly surprised and will be returning for more gear as I need it. read more

I have a 65" Mitsubishi that was released just before HDMI. I wanted to have the ability to connect three items to the TV (DVR, Apple TV, Sony PS3) without having a switch box that I had to get up and press A, B or C every time I wanted to use a different device (as the switchers at Best Buy required). They understood my predicament and found a switcher that could take multiple inputs and outputs AND could be controlled by any universal remote like my Logitech Harmony which I already had. Now I can watch Hulu or Netflix or Vudu or play my PS3 or watch something on U-Verse or Apple TV and I don't have to mess with any buttons or replace my TV that is paid for and has a beautiful screen. Also my guests don't have to be a genius to operate the TV. I found the staff to be very helpful when I explained what I needed. They clearly cater to supplying audio video gurus as there are rows and rows of things I'd never seen and have no idea what they are for. But I bet if I ever need anything and come here they will be able to explain a solution and give me a couple options because I think they have about everything audio video you would need. read more
