My best friend lives in Crown Point, and her daughter goes to Valparaiso University. She said this place was worth a visit so we had to go try it. It's a corner lot and has its own parking lot. I was really surprised that we went on a random Friday night and were able to get in. It's not very large, but it seemed like they got people in and out pretty quick. I was told the garlic knots were amazing and the Alfredo sauce to die for. My friend was not wrong. I'd say the show stealer were the garlic knots. you had to pay extra for the Alfredo sauce but it was worth it. It was so good, I could've drank it. The knots were tender and covered in butter, cheese and garlic. Yum. The pizza crust was good, but I don't think the meatball topping was the best choice for me. We also got a side of onion rings because they were beer battered and I always have to try beer battered onion rings. It's very hard to find good ones and these definitely rank in the top 3 or 4 for me. I was disappointed that they didn't come with any sauce but there was a decent amount of them and they were super crispy. Very basic restaurant in a college area and with a visit for sure. Not busy on a Friday at lunch. We got seated, ordered and enjoyed the music. Not too loud and not rap. Truly appreciated. I got the fried shrimp basket and hubs got an Italian beef sandwich. The shrimp were butterflied and crunchy and tasty. Hubby enjoyed half his lunch and really enjoyed his fries. Our server was helpful and friendly and perfect. We waited just a few minutes for service, and our meals arrived in about 10 minutes, so efficiency was spot-on. However, the food itself left something to be desired. I ordered the Ham and Cheese Hoagie with fries. While it was toasted, the bread lacked the golden-brown crispness I was hoping for--it just looked and tasted underwhelming. My wife's meatball sandwich fared better visually, with a nicely browned (though slightly over-toasted) bread. Still, her sandwich, like mine, was just okay. Nothing memorable. Spectacular. From the first bite, you can tell they use quality ingredients, not just what a distributor pushes their way. The building is well remodeled with a red brick veneer wall, nice furnishings, great lighting, and an outdoor seating area. The staff was very courteous and attentive, even when the Friday rush arrived as we were finishing our meal. Our server was well versed on the meals, their ingredients, prep, and provided helpful recommendations. Our appetizer was the meatballs. Made on site, the meat was flavorful but lean. The sauce made my wife go "wow," and the cheese was fresh and delicious. The appetizer arrived well before the meal, so we could enjoy it without being rushed. My wife ordered a Detroit pizza while I ordered the Johnny Boy sandwich. The waitress immediately asked and recommended ricotta cheese for the pizza, an excellent recommendation. The pizza arrived, well more than 1 person could eat, with a perfect buttery deep pan crust, a great sause, and again cheeses that were definately not from a distributor as they were fresh and with a complex flavor profile not found in something from a restaurant distributor. My Johnny Boy sandwich had thinly sliced meats cooked perfectly. The peppers were also cooked perfectly with a fully cooked flavor in a pepper slice that still was firm without being crunchy. The bread was so distinctive I shared a tear off with my wife, again something deliberately chosen by the chef for its quality. Came into this place as a backup plan, but was not disappointed. The cheesy bread was warm with lots of garlic. The penne w/ vodka sauce and the shrimp Alfredo were both very creamy and fresh tasting. The shrimp were big and had a good seasoning on them. The bow tie noodles in the alfredo were an awesome change as-well. The service was fast and the restaurant was clean. I will be coming back to try the pizza eventually. Everyone brags about this place, but we were hardly impressed. We ordered 2 salads which were good (just typical salad). I ordered the rubbed wings. They came out looking amazing. Uh, no! They had absolutely no flavor. He got pizza and said he'd had better out of a box which is what his tastes like. The beer prices were too high in comparison to other restaurants in our area. The wait staff acted like they were annoyed we were there and then acted as if they did us a favor serving us. Just not friendly. They still got a good tip but didn't deserve it. After waiting for them to open, and then giving them time to get in a good flow, we were sadly disappointed. We won't be back. Much better food, drinks, & staff anywhere else in Valpo. read more

I came here last night with my family and had a great experience. First the place is really clean and thats really important to me. We had garlic knots as an appetizer and they came out quick and were delicious. We had the 20 inch pizza as our main course and the pizza was to die for. My husband and I went here for the first time tonight. The environment, staff and food was amazing. Our waitress Kyrstyn on the other hand was very unpleasant. As soon as she waited us you could feel the anger and bitterness. She hadn't gotten our plates/silverware until another waitress realized we had mine while serving us our appetizer which by the way, she was super sweet. I asked our waitress for an extra plate for my husband because the calzone plate kept soaking up all the grease while he was eating it. She never gave us one.. Forgot about my salad with my dinner. Never once asked how the food was or anything knowing it was our first time as we had told her prior to ordering. I wanted desert and she didn't even give us a chance to order it. Once she seen we were done eating she came over with boxes, the salad she forgot to give me which we decided prior to just not have at all and got an attitude about it and handed the check to us. I'm not one to leave reviews like this but it really frustrates me when we're on a date that happens very rarely due to us being parents and as we're walking out the door she's now ready to sprint walking to grab her tip. Everyone else was busting their butt, except for her. Seen her maybe 4 times the entire time other than the 2 times she got our order and slapped the check on my side of the table. I understand having someone call off is hectic as I was a waitress for many years, but this isn't right. Do better. Be better. This is my "go-to" for pizza, which has been consistently good, until tonight. I ordered my regular thin crust pizza with sausage , mushrooms and black olives. When I got home the pizza looked much different than normal which wasn't a good sign. The pizza was short on sauce, mushrooms, sausage and black olives. In fact there were hardly any toppings on it at all. So few, in fact, it was essentially a $30.00 cheese pizza. Menu prices don't match the bill. When I got my bill, everything was $0.50-$1.00 more than the menu stated. Our waitress was going to be docked for this by the management, and that's hot garbage. Our waitress did the best she could, and she shouldn't be docked her pay because the managers don't have current menus printed. A manager type guy even called me back and cursed at me. We tried this out for the first time. When we arrived there were a total of four other people dining. We ordered a 14" pizza, 6 wings and two grilled chicken salads. At the 35 minute mark of waiting for food (fyi the wings were supposed to come out as an appetizer and we still hadn't received them yet.) we asked about the status of our food and they said it takes at least 30 mins to make the pizza. I've never waited that long in a restaurant for a pizza and if that's the case, they need to tell that to people. Over an hour later we finally got our food. Two other diners showed up 40 mins after us and received their food before us. We also watched one of the other customers get an appetizer, then their house salads, then their pasta dishes, get a to go box and leave in this time. The wings were dry, burnt and tasteless. My kids said the pizza tasted like the one at he bowling alley. Our salads were brought out after the pizza because the chicken wasn't done being cooked yet. It felt like I walked into my kids wanting to cook for me and cooking each item one at a time. Sadly, after seeing the other reviews at how slow they are and also having burned food on top of just really being upset about this entire experience, I won't even think of returning a second time to see if it's different. read more
