Although we like the food, it is pretty over priced for the amount of food and quality. We grew up in the Bay Area, Hawai'i, and have traveled to Japan. The food is mediocre BUT it does have some good items just not all are great. I have to give this place only 2 stars because the owner is nice, service is extremely slow, wait staff is very inexperienced. We come on average maybe once every 3-4 months when we are craving their salad or something "Japanese" and this is truly the only place here besides Mikasa ( but that's place is a whole other review!!!). This place looks nice from the outside and the white decor and delicate hanging light fixtures in the inside are very nice as well! We were greeted as soon as we came in. The tables all looked clean. The courteous server immediately provided us with menus. We had 4 different types of sushi, tempura, miso soup and salad. The experience itself was nice since we were celebrating a special occasion. If I had to rate this place based on looks, service, presentation of the meals and music I would rate them with 4 or 5 stars! However, the sushi... hmmm let's just say, we've had better! I've never had a negative experience here. I've always wanted to be able to walk into a place and just ask for "the usual". Well, this is that place. Totally worth the rather long wait to get seated. The staff is spread pretty thin, and we were just ahead of a whole lot of people walking in and several large groups taking their time. Only the manager or main server really makes any eye contact with you until you're seated, but the staff try hard. You have to remind them a few times for requests. Pleasantly surprised! It was next to the hotel we were staying at and by far this has been the best Sushi bar we have been to in the past year. We travel often and honestly every thing we ordered was superb. The presentation was beautiful. Owner came out to check on our meals and we thanked him for the quality of the food. Came here recently due to recommendations and I can see that all the negative reviews about terrible customer service are true. My husband and I came here on a slower Friday night and many seats were open but a waitress that looked like she had a really bad case of chronic bitch face pointed us all the way in a corner where we could see nothing but the parking lot. We noticed that she also had earbuds in both of her ears which we thought was a little unprofessional. That unprofessionalism became even more apparent considering she didn't give us menus or ask us about refreshments. My husband had to get up after a few minutes and get menus off the counter himself. We were ready to order but being stuck in a corner, we couldn't flag anyone down and decided to wait just how long it would take the waitress to come. 15 minutes passed and still nothing until she came and took orders from a couple that were seated behind us. We thought she'd come to us after but then she left again. That couple had been there from before we even came in so it means they were sitting there for well over 20 minutes before they got their order taken. My brother gave a great review about this place so our fam decided to give it a try. First impression: This is not your average sushi restaurant. They dared to be different and succeeded. Once you walk in you're greeted by a friendly and attentive staff :). The music and dining area decor reminded me of being in a hip lounge in Vegas. The bathroom decor and being served water with a slice of cucumber reminded me of visiting a spa. Their menu had a ton of selections. I'm not a seasoned sushi sensei but the menu looked like they put a twist on many of the ordinary foods you'd find elsewhere and added items you couldn't find anywhere else. Miss the city? Come here and you will feel right at home! Gorgeous floors, tables, decor, comfortable seating and fabulous environment with trance music to top it off! If I lived here I would be here every night, their sushi is the most fresh and delightful I have ever had and I've been eating sushi up and down the coast from Canada to San Diego for 25 years. Even their water tasted fresh with a slice of cucumber. Their fish pops were fun and innovative and melt in your mouth. Their sashimi on baguette crostini with avacado was delicious. The owner was friendly and happy and told me he really cared about the details and it shows, their food is presented beautifully and service was very attentive. Their food was perfect and if I had not eaten breakfast earlier I would have also ordered their pizza sashimi. My husband ate here two times and raved on and on about how excellent it was several times so I just had to go. Their food is worth every penny and more, for those people who thought it was expensive, they didn't order the good sushi or try something different or have never been to a truly expensive restaurant, it's not pricy at all by big city high end restaurant standards. This place cannot be compared with Mikasa, where the sushi is your average corner meal. Amichi Sushi is like no other sushi bar/restaurant in the Lathrop/Manteca area. The food is delicious, creative, and fresh. I have never had a bad meal at this sushi bar. They buy their fish daily, which heavily contributes to the delicious taste. I've been to some sushi bars who's fish was a little fishy, but not here, no way. Their seared tuna tastes like tender fillet mignon, and their tuna tacos are to die for! I had the privilege of tasting a friends Hamachi, wow! I've never tasted Hamachi and this was great! Now let's get to the creativity that they put into their dish presentation. Wow wow and wow, again. Normally you go to a sushi bar and get the standard looking presentation... sushi rolls on a white plate. Booring. Not here. The sushi chefs takes pride in their work, and have some innovative ways to present each dish. The Lathrop roll, for instance, isn't in a roll form, but stacked vertical. Fun! The Tuna tacos are served on a bed of crumbled corn chips and the tuna is flattened to resemble soft tacos with the ingredients on top. I honestly think this place is comparable to somewhere you would find San Francisco or Sacramento. The ambience is great! All white inside with some gnarly looking hanging light fixtures over each table. Very modern and upscale looking. Not your mom and pop looking sushi bar, that's for sure! Thanks Yelp friends! I think about 5 of y'all referred me to this place, and darn, are we glad we checked it out today! It is located in a newer strip mall, and lunchtime parking was a bit difficult. Once we walked in, the decor was a breath of fresh air! I've never been anywhere with so much white and natural sunlight making the kitschy and tasteful decorations radiate! I got SO excited see the ice bucket of fresh fish at the bar, so naturally we needed to try the chef selections of the day! Our waters came, and once I took a sip, I was impressed with their attention to detail with the cucumbers! Then our soups came, it could quite possibly be the best miso soup we've ever had! Then the house salads came, and they were also impressive! I actually snapped a pic of the salad, because they were NOT your typical hospital food cafeteria salad with a little miso dressing slopped on top. The dressing had more garlic than I'm used to (yay!) and all the different ingredients carried their own tastes (not the dump in the bin and store everything together type of a salad.) Mmmm! Even the sides of rice were far superior to other sushi places. Then I realized how on point our waiter was, when he brought the food out with perfect timing and we never needed to ask for so much as a refill, or obviously self-buss our own table. Then our main courses came out, and I've got to say we were speechless! He described everything so well... May I say the best and most memorable sushi experience that we've ever had?! Honestly, it's intoxicating to order the chef special tapas, and the CS sashimi was off the hook! We got to pick out a freshly imported fish from Japan, and they fried it up all crispy for us to dip in house special fish sauce and eat whole, like a soft shell crab. (Pics attached.) This place is amazing! You can tell this restaurant really goes for quality, originality, and overall experience. They had many original rolls that I've never seen before that were a masterpiece. They also had the popular rolls you see at other sushi restaurants but with a twist. The presentation was the best I've seen, and the service was great. The servers really sell you quite an experience and are really attentive and helpful. The price is a few dollars more than most places but it is totally worth the food and the experience. The place is would be great for dates, special occasions, or just hanging out with friends. The interior was very bright with lots of white, gives it a very upscale and modern look. I recommend looking up the menu before hand and looking up all the components of the rolls, they are all very original and different. Try the Red Ocean roll. So this is how I ran into this place... I was in the area for business so I Yelped sushi and this place came up. Been a couple of months since this place opened and they seem to have things in order now... Service was much better and more organized. The food is still tasty and top quality. Sure, you could probably find sushi/sashimi for a bit cheaper at other places... But, the quality of the fish being used is top notch. This time around, I also got to try some food from the kitchen (and not just the sushi bar). The filet mignon was great... A little over seasoned, but the meat was so soft that it almost melted in your mouth. Also wanted to mention that I visited on a Friday night when they were having free wine tasting. So this is by far THE BEST sushi Restuarant I have been too! Service, beer, food...all of the above are PHENOMENAL!! Where to begin, let me take through my journey of my experience... I walked in and the place is clean, vibrant, and modern. I was greeted and felt very welcomed. I ordered beer (the rice beer) and it was very fresh and crisp! I ordered at 9 plates of sushi (there was 5 of us) and each plate was visually stunning. The sushi chef made an arch out of one and was very impressive. The sushi was fresh and moist and just melted in my mouth. The homemade sauces were unbelievable and tasted brilliant! I like to taste the sushi w/o the other stuff then try it with its compliments...absolutely wonderful every way! After I finished my beer the server said I should try the special beer...it was delicious! I don't want to spoil it for you, but make sure to ask for it. Our last plate of sushi was the "LATHROP" and it was the best of the best! You have to try it if you come here. Absolutely wonderful and visually stunning. This place is the best sushi Restuarant that I have been too. My guests appreciated the sushi as well. I was happy to try this place and everyone enjoy the food. This is the best sushi place we've found in Lathrop, Manteca, or Tracy. It has a cool atmosphere, knowledgeable and friendly staff (especially the owner), and excellent food. We ordered a couple rolls and after the owner asked us a few questions and recommended another, we switched our order and we're glad we did. Though we do want to come back and try a bunch more. Even better is the freshness and quality of all the fish and other ingredients. They even use real snow crab I stead of imitation like most the other sushi places in the area use. It's great they open late!! It's rare to see the owner work the front of the restaurant and take your orders. Well he does. Super nice guy! Always great service from all the staff. I'm telling you, stop hearing the Not Impressed on Yelp because you should be impressed. For someone to take a risk in the little town of Lathrop and bring this ultra modern beautiful restaurant like something you would see in a big city is Impressive!! The food is not the typical old school Japanese restaurant. This is the stuff I like, modern, edgy, almost fusion. They have stuff on the menu that makes them unique. I appreciate that. Oddly, even their steaks are amazing. Part of eating is the presentation, but the quality backs it up. Yes, everyone has their own opinions and leaving negative remarks or low score on a local restaurant can really hurt them, even closing them down.
