It's about time to put a review about my experience, rather than my experience helping the older people who own the house where I live. I've been going to Hong Kong Restaurant for several weeks now. I order the same thing each time: Steamed Fish, Steamed Rice, and Iced Tea. I love fish, as almost all Japanese do. I always get a good portion here and the recipe is made well. Every time I enter, I'm greeted energetically, whether they're busy or not. The dear lady running things knows what I want after all these weeks. I'm not one for American-ized Chinese food, having worked in a Chinese restaurant of my friends in Ohio. There isn't as much room as one could hope. I feel bad taking a booth if it's busy but I don't like the chairs or leaving my stuff in the way. Since I walk, I have stuff with me. The Steamed Fish is the best I've had for a while and it's less expensive than the other place in town where I used to go. I wish that they had a couple of other recipes from around China, but this is good, solid food. I haven't bought it for a while, but their Tofu Seafood Soup is really good. I just can't eat that and the fish. I'm just so glad that it's close and they are friendly, as well as having good food. read more

Lived in Manteca for 3 years and this was the first time that I can say I actually liked the Chinese food. We got chow mein, orange chicken, Mongolian beef, salt & pepper shrimp and fried chicken. We both thought the orange and the sweet & sour pork was cooked to long because it was really crispy. I found that the orange chicken tasted way better than the sweet and sour pork. My mistake when I ordered my dish was to have both the rice and sweet & sour pork together on the plate. I don't like when the rice is drenched with sauce. From the moment I opened my carry out containers I already knew it was going to be awful, the looks weren't even appealing. I proceeded with my first bite of the Szechuan chicken that was just crunchy, dry, chewy chicken- I couldn't stop chewing the chicken because it never broke down- I was debating on swallowing or spitting it out. This was my first time trying this restaurant, so I made sure to order a few staples to get a feel for it. I got an order of salt and pepper fish; the fish was cooked to perfection, it was flaky and glistening. Although, I did find myself wishing there was more salt, and pepper flavor. I also order broccoli beef, the broccoli was probably the best cooked I've ever had from any restaurant. Still a beautiful bright green with a slight crunch, and the beef was perfectly tender. Overall, I really appreciated how well everything was cooked, although it all came across as a little too "clean" tasting for my preferences. I love greasy, MSG-laden Chinese food. But I won't dock any points based on my personal tastes, especially considering the excellent cook on everything. The waitress was really nice but the food was not so good. We ordered a family meal for 2 which came out to a Lil over $50. The food was brought out to us 1 plate at a time and it was barely Luke warm. First we got the chow main. Thick noodles, only 3 tiny pieces of pork and it was not tasty nor hot. Then we got the sweet and sour pork...no pineapple, no bell peppers just hard pieces of pork that looked and felt like it had been microwaved at least 3 times. Tough and hard to eat, again barely Luke warm. 15 min later we got the flour egg soup.. super hot but tasted awful. Then 15 minutes later we got our pot stickers. The bread on them was super dry and tasteless, we didn't eat them. A few minutes later she brought out what was supposed to be garlic chicken, it was 4 pieces of plain fried whole chicken that tasted like old chicken in some kind of tempura batter. Gross. After what seemed like forever, we asked about our fried rice, she had forgotten but quickly brought it out. Again it wasn't great and barely warm. We left and had to go through a drive through because we were still very hungry. Needless to say, we won't be back. This was our first time eating here and we will definitely be back. I tried placing my order online through their website, but it would not complete and just left me hanging so I called in my order. The lady that answered the phone was very nice and easy to talk to. She said about 20 minutes for our order. They have a small parking lot, but there were spaces available. If you want to eat there they have about 6 tables available. We ordered on a Friday night so the tables were full and there were 5 other customers waiting to pick up their order. The young lady that answered the phone was the only person working the front for both to go orders and the seated customers. I felt so bad she was literally running around trying to keep up. It seemed that there were multiple people in the back, but she needs help out front. All orders were delayed as they were so busy, so it took about 30 minutes overall. Monica and her kids are so hospitable and precious. We felt like we had come to her home! Jayse her daughter is so helpful and ready to serve! The food was generous and really good. We ordered Hong Kong Fried rice, fried zucchini, chicken curry and asked if she could make orange beef, as they have orange chicken. She quickly said "no problem"! It was so good too! Monica was very helpful with her service, making sure my water was always topped off. Little small mom and pop restaurant with great staff. Food is decent. One of the teenagers wolfed down the lemon chicken. The other barely touched the orange chicken and I tried it, it was just OK. My friend brought the broccoli beef and enjoyed it. About 1/3 beef to 2/3 broccoli. She says the broccoli was cooked just right and not hard to chew. I ordered Szechuan shrimp. I think I actually got salt and pepper shrimp. Probably the worst Chinese food I've ever had. I already knew I was taking a risk ordering from Manteca. I placed my order via doordash. I ordered the garlic fried chicken, sesame balls, fried green beans, hot & sour soup and beef chow fun. The flavors were off and not authentic to how these dishes are supposed to taste. The garlic fried chicken came in a greasy paper bag and didn't have any flavor. The photo on doordash showed chicken wings but this was just big chunks of fried chicken. The fried green beans were literally tempura which is not a HK dish. I was hoping it would be dry fried string beans with garlic. The soup smelled really weird so I didn't even taste it. The beef chow fun was the most edible dish out of my order but it is not cooked the traditional way. Please don't waste your time, money or calories here. read more

Can't speak for their take out but the dine in experience was fantastic. We got the gourmet family dinner and everything was delicious. Great flavor, not too salty, very fresh. Not a single soggy vegetable. Everything was crispy and fresh. Same with the wonton and fried shrimp, crispy piping hot, not oily at all. We really enjoyed the wonton soup, the brother had a really savory flavor. Our waitress was super friendly and very accommodating.
