They provided a very lovely wake and coordinated everything from start to finish with dignity and grace. I felt at the end as if I had also made a friend with John as he was that close to me and guiding during this time. This well maintained cemetery established in 1808 is a place of beauty, peace, and serenity. A quiet gathering of past generations at rest with all too many stories of life that would be inspiring to hear. Although today's visit was to remember mom on her last day, which found me alone in this beautiful location, I have always found the staff here to be superb caring people! It shows in the upkeep of the cemetery. A slow walk amongst the headstones and trees can bring a sensual spirit of peace. Amazing how in a well conceived resting place for the dead we can again find life. This two hundred year old cemetery may have its full contingent of resting souls but if you are feeling rushed in life ... you may find rest by walking in its peacefulness.

It is inevitable, no matter how hard we try to ignore it. And when it comes, even if it has been expected, it is the most terrible of experiences for those left behind. In that hour of need, when the hospital, nursing home, hospice nurse, or coroner asks who they should call to collect your loved one's remains, you could really not do better than to answer, "Please call Erie County Cremation Services (ECCS), we have made arrangements with them to handle everything." I was sadly in that position recently and so I have first hand, fresh, raw, experience on which to base this review. Several months ago my spouse was diagnosed with a terrible cancer and given a very poor prognosis. After that awful discussion about what they would want by way of arrangements, I knew that I had to find a funeral home to handle a direct cremation - the simplest possible disposition for a human body. I found ECCS somewhere online and contacted them via an email link on their website. The response was immediate, concise, professional, and considerate. A brief Q&A exchange followed until I was satisfied that I had all the information I needed. My spouse meanwhile, through their own strength and the phenomenal work of physicians at ECMC, defied the early dire predictions. That is a story for another time, but ultimately the disease was too diabolical, and my spouse's body could not keep it at bay any longer and they began to be cared for by Hospice Buffalo. I reached out again to ECCS and they picked up the conversation, after many months, without missing a beat. When the terrible day came and their services were needed they responded immediately and with the utmost professionalism. The paperwork (there is always paperwork) was handled smoothly, and my several last minute requests regarding notifications were all responded to immediately and professionally, even though they ultimately eliminate any public acknowledgement of ECCS's role. Funeral directors can be seen as out to get people in their time of need, but I did not find this to be the case ECCS at all. I was requesting the simplest possible approach to everything and there was no effort to upsell me or make me feel guilty for not doing more. I simply can't express strongly enough how positive my impression of ECCS is. One never wants to need their services, but they provide them with incredible professionalism.

They made my mom look really nice and very much like she did before she was sick, a feat that was impressive. Unfortunately, the other day I had to attend another wake and a service the day after and it was in this location again. The family was able to have a small religious service inside for 100 to 150 people and a military service outside afterward, with absolute organization and a sound system playing the deceased love one's favorite music. The staff was sensitive and, once again, very professional. I would recommend their services to others who need direction and would like a staff thats flexible.

Losing a loved one is always painful. Well, the entire process can be very challenging. Thankfully before our Mother moved south she made her funeral arrangements with Comfort Funeral Home, South Wales, NY. Before she passed she kept reminding us that all we had to do when she finally "went over to be with Dad" was to pick up the phone and Comfort would do the rest- even from out of state. That's exactly what happened. There was a blizzard in Buffalo, there would be no funeral until spring. All arrangements were seamless from working with a Florida undertaker to transfer of Mom at the Buffalo airport once the snow cleared. We were kept informed every step of the way...even though we lived in 6 states from the Atlantic to the Pacific coasts. During the wake and funeral our family and friends were given all the courtesy and support one would expect from a close friend. I highly recommend Comfort Funeral Home. It seemed obvious they had relationships with certain vendors who they strongly recommended. In fact, they were so insistent I would not be surprised if there was not kickbacks involved. Overall our experience that day and leading up to that day were average at best. My post today was strongly influenced by an experience I had in a public setting when the Funeral Director walked into a local bank and began berating and demeaning a bank employee because she DARED asking him for his credentials (federal & state regulations require this). He came across as rude, arrogant and entitled. His behavior was so rude and obnoxious that the bank employee had to interrupt my business with my banker to ask him to intercede. His demeaning vocabulary was loud enough, and deliberate, that the entire branch could hear him. He was quite pompous and proud of himself for almost bringing the bank employee to tears. I will NEVER do business with this company ever again and would encourage others to look elsewhere. His behaviors and attitude were inexcusable and offensive.
