Made reservations for a party of 6 on a Friday night (4 adults & 2 kids). Seated quickly and drinks and quesadilla for kids delivered in no time. Placed order a bit later and after waiting ~40 minutes waitress apologized and told us our order had gotten misplaced and the kitchen was now working on it. Easily an hour after we arrived we finally got our meals. Portions were fair, food wasn't bad. Unfortunately no part of our bill was comped for making us wait over an hour (with 2 small kids). There isn't much choice in this small town on a Saturday Night. Amigos was open, and well recommended by the Gluten Free app we use. They seem to have all of the business in the area on a Saturday! We walked in without a reservation (our mistake), but only had to wait for 2 seats at the bar for a few minutes. We had ordered a drink while waiting. One drink was more than enough! My wife and I both noticed the G&T I ordered had more G in it than I would have wanted! Hah! Oh well, on to dinner! Both meals were great, and the ambiance is typical "Saturday Night in a Crowded Bar". Every table taken, and lots of conversation around us. Barkeeps were very busy, but did not seem to keep anyone waiting. We ran up a $50.00 bill, net of tip, which I guess is pretty standard these days. No dessert was necessary! I suggest calling ahead! 5-stars for decor. This place looks like it was pulled straight out of some quaint little southwestern biker/hiker destination town in New Mexico or Arizona. Excellent use of turquoise, adorable bar, all around the place looks great. The service was good, everyone was super friendly and the margaritas were excellent. The food - not so much. My boyfriend got fajitas, which were decent. The steak was cooked perfectly when I normally expect that dried out Mexican overcooked beef shenanigan. He asked for jalapenos (just chop em up and sautee em..or not if that's easier... and throw em in the mix, this is his "uje") but they only had canned jalapenos (ew), and the request would be dependent on the chef's mood. Which we totally get, having worked in restaurants collectively for about 12 years, but jeez. So he didn't want them, since they're canned, but we wouldn't have gotten them anyway because apparently the request was denied. Anyway, that's all fine and good, but I had chile rellenos, and they were terrible. Everything about that dish was terrible. We were actually making bets as to how long they had been frozen before they were reheated and put on my plate. I'm talking like, 3-inch freezer burn on these suckers. We also bet on how many times the beans had been refried..and refried.. and refried. I mean like rock-hard, crusty & dark on the outside of the scoop o' beans. I can't tell you how many chile rellenos I've eaten in my life.. but these were definitely the worst. I suppose I should have said something, at least to settle the bets we had made, but having already gotten the impression that the chef was an arrogant prick it seemed like it would have been a waste of time. Chips & salsa were ok (the bf didn't like them though, too salty). Also the bf got pico and it wasn't pico at all, it was just salsa... which is fine but call it what it is. I believe this was a Saturday (if not it was pretty busy), so it's not like this was an off night. I will definitely be back for drinks, cuz I'm a fan of the ambiance, and it's close to home. And kudos for opening a decent bar in schuylerville. I won't likely be eating there again though. Maybe I'm spoiled from being out west for so long, but I've found some excellent Mexican places in Saratoga. If i want frozen/canned food I'll just eat at home. EDIT: Very interesting response. What say you of the "chef's mood" in whether to provide [canned] jalepenos? And the unbelievably inappropriate sexcapade story we got from a bartender, which I left out in order to represent the *restaurant* - not one employee - in the review (yes, I know how to review businesses appropriately...). And if not freezer burn (we almost always nail that one but you seem pretty insistent that we were wrong this time..) what exactly was wrong with the chile rellenos? I'd be happy to bring some good ones over and conduct a blind taste test with your own customers. I have been back here multiple times (you *can* see my check-in count, right?), and brought tables of 4-6+, almost always at my own recommendation, for the margaritas/location/atmosphere. Have tried other dishes, pretty consistently "meh". I did enjoy the shrimp enchiladas and was planning to edit the review with updates on other hits & misses. My review was mostly positive (by Yelp standards, 3 stars means A-Ok), so I'd say the owner's response was very poor taste indeed. I have heard since from locals I showed this to that the attitude is not surprising at all. Also, interesting to see that there are almost as many filtered reviews as there are non-filtered. Hmm. I guess when you have a monopoly on the Schuylerville Mexican scene, you just don't need to isten to clients & respond appropriately. I stopped here one rainy afternoon and had a couple of beers chatting with the hostess. It's a really cozy spot. I don't think the Mexican grub is ever going to hold a candle to anything west of El Paso, but as a meeting spot with friends, it's a really warm place. Schuylerville is sort of an oasis to what is 10 miles west. They've made Amigo one of the centerpieces of that concept. Soooo good... But soooo slow! We have been to Amigos many times and every single time our food takes forever. Takes a while to get drinks, takes a while for food, takes a while for the check. The owner plays host but I always wonder why he never lifts a finger to run food or bus or help really at all. They really need to hire another server. However when the food arrives, it's out of this world. Huge portions, nice sides like guacamole and salads actually included in the price, fresh and authentic. We joke Amigos is way better than El Mexicano, in Saratoga. The burrito is HUGE. Try the shrimp fajitas (they let you substitute ). The place is solid. Good food, helpful staff, nice decor. The food is extremely generous (Gordon Ramsey would complain at the huge portions). The owner is at the door. The place is comfortable. It is a little loud but it is sort of Schuylerville's Mexican Cheers - it is a place that everyone is welcoming and knows your name. The bar looks good. Worth the drive from Galway ( or anywhere)- even for takeout. We ordered takeout last night- a full meal + appetizers+ dessert for 3 people. The meal was ready to the minute we requested, hot & ready to be eaten. The chimichanga, enchilada, burrito bowl meals all fantastic.. Finally, during this covid time when safety is primary concern, I was really pleased to see how safe Amigos has the pickup station setup -safe for the Amigos family on the front line preparing & packaging good healthy food & safe for us patrons that get to enjoy the food. I recently moved to Schuylerville and went into the Cantina to place a to-go order. Upon waiting there and chatting with Rob, I immediately felt like I didn't want to leave! I'm giving this restaurant 3 stars. I feel as though some parts of are visit were 4 star and other parts were 2 star. Let's start with the good stuff. Me and my wife both ordered chimichangas. We had 2 sides pinto beans and rice. The portions were good, we both liked the beans I liked the rice more than my wife did. The chimichangas were delicious, large and crispy. It was thirsty Thursday so I ordered a house margarita. I wasn't really happy with the first Margarita. I then noticed the drinks were made with a low quality tequila. I was looking forward to enjoying this part of my meal. I did have another and I don't know why. We laughed about this saying the more you have the better they taste. My second drink was slightly better but still not a good quality taste. My last issue was chairs. They need to invest in chairs and get rid of the miss matched, loose, wobbly and green duct tape chairs. Maybe in a truck stop dinner but not in a well established restaurant. read more

In a town with so few choices for dining, here was a delightful and tasty spot with great beers, large drinks and comfortable, attractive settings; inside and out. The salsa was DELICIOUS! We sat outside until two couples decided to take over the entire outdoors by holding court with their obnoxious loud to the point of yelling, conversation. We finished our meals inside where the other thirty people were quiet in comparison. Food was good to very good. The service was friendly and hospitable. This is my favorite Mexican restaurant in the area. The food is good for East Coast Mexican. The fish tacos are quite good. The place has a great atmosphere, a very good beer selection, good margaritas, and very nice outdoor patio for summer nights. We have missed going to Amigos Cantina SO much! Tonight we tried the carry out option, after getting notice in an email. It was a great experience!! The food was good and well-packaged (the soups, both of which were gluten-free, were incredibly good); margaritas delicious (tasted like the "old" mix which I preferred); and the ordering and carry out very smooth and well organized for safety and health. And I got to use one of the gift cards that I bought months ago! Certainly not as good as being there, but under the current circumstances, it was great! Looking forward to doing it again soon! Been coming here for years and it seems the quality has declined. Margaritas were subpar. Rice and beans were dried out, tasteless and stale. The black beans literally looked like they were scraped off the bottom of the pot. Main entrees were good but shrimp taco entree was a small portion size (only 2 tacos). The best Mexican food around here and probably the best outside of Houston (Hugo's) or Mexico. Order your Guacamole on arrival or it will be slow in coming. Good hot food, you will never have a cold meal at Amigos. Atmosphere is pleasant and staff friendly. The chips and homemade salsa start your evening off right. Whenever possible, check out the deck; with one of the few outdoor table restaurants in the village it gives a more open feel to the cozy indoor seating. Drinks can be hit or miss depending on who is working, but that's the same for any restaurant. Dinners are on the higher end for the area but the quantity and quality balance it out. This little restaurant is very quaint. It's decorated with lots of fun and colorful Mexican art. It has a lot of ambiance. The food is very good and the staff is very nice. I've tried a couple different things and they are all good. If you get a meal that comes with a salad, it's done in an adorable little taco salad shell with a yummy light dressing. It's great. I'd recommend the chimichanga. This is a fun place to go. My only complaint would be Its very popular and on the small side so Some of the tables are cramped,but all in all a great place. read more

I was very disappointed with my most recent visit here! I have been coming here for years and it seems as though the quality has gone done recently. Everything was always super fresh, but this time this was just not the case. The new expansion is nice visually, but the whole place lacked atmosphere as there was no music playing at all. The staff are all very friendly and welcoming, but the drinks and food subpar. The chips that were provided were tasty, but were given in tiny soup bowls, with additional refills of chips only available at additional cost. The margaritas were ok, but tasted as though something was missing from them. Drinkable, but not good. Some members in our party enjoyed their entrees which includes the enchiladas, fish and shrimp tacos, but side dishes were awful and flavorless. The rice tasted old, were mushy, and had no flavor whatsoever. The beans were cold, crusty, and not edible as they appeared to have sat for quite a long time and had been burned and scraped off the bottom of the pan. I'm very sad to be writing this as we have enjoyed amigos for quite some time, however, I can't say that we will be returning. read more

It will take another visit to write a thorough review, but first impressions were pretty good. Reservations are suggested by the owner, and we were glad we reserved outside. The white plastic chairs could have used a bleaching, but then it is a casual place and you can go in shorts in summertime. The bar is very cute and the atmosphere inside appealing - with a genuine Mexican feel. The food is, of course, Americanized-Mexican all the way. But I had tasty crab cakes, and a side of guacamole that was quite respectable. There was plenty of crab in them and though they were on the appetizer menu, I found them more than adequate as an entree. Plus with chips and salsa and guac, the meal was more than filling enough. Said chips were salted (to make you drink more?) and slightly stale tasting. My husband liked the red sauce much better than the green on one of 2 beef enchiladas. He thought the beef was generous and well prepared. I love that they make their own bar mix, but my mango margarita was completely tasteless - except for tasting plenty of alcohol, so I asked for a side of bar mix. As soon as I poured in almost 8 oz. of it, my drink magically improved. For a bargain $7.00 it was large- which I always appreciate! The beer was cold and served in a great glass. The flan was too sweet for my liking and not creamy enough, but the man enjoyed it (he is so much less picky than me). But he is the one who suffered a belly ache the next morning! I wanted to love this place. The dining room is pleasant, if a bit cliché. There is outdoor seating. Friendly, and competent bartender. And certainly this part of the world could use more restaurant diversity. For what it was, the food is perhaps a tad overpriced. But it came nicely prepared. Dinner was almost an hour coming out, but every place has off nights in the kitchen. So I didn't mind the wait. It's just nothing was seasoned with much more than salt and pepper. I could have tossed the carne asada with pasta and sold it as pasta con carne di manzo e fagioli. So its a fine place if you are happy with a place that appears to be Mexican, with technically good food preparation, but almost devoid of any Mexican seasoning. read more

Nice restaurant, saw a lot of mixed reviews about the food and service so was skeptical about dinning there. Waited a maximum of two minutes before being seated and our waiter was very good and attentive, was given water right away and the inside of the restaurant was very bright and filled with Mexican paintings and artwork. The red sangria that my mom ordered was very tasty and did not skimp on the alcohol. The complimentary chips and salsa was very good (if you like cilantro in salsa). For my entree I ordered the chicken chimichanga with the red sauce it was delicious, maybe a little on the dry side but still very good and the red sauce was nice and spicy. My side of rice was a little bland and in need of salt and pepper and my side salad was ok. My mom ordered chili relleno and said it was good and typical for a Mexican restaurant, good cheese and good sized pepper although the pepper did have a lot of seeds in it, she said she would get it again. The service we, a party of 6, received last night was awful. Although my meal was tepid and returned when it was re-served it was still tepid and I want even asked if it was ok. The server was inattentive and upon departing neither she nor the host said one word, no thank you, no good bye despite being right next to me a foot away. Taco fillings weren't cooked with spices or seasonings, black beans were overcooked, dry and flavorless, the salad was under dressed and the crunchy taco shell was served soggy. My wife and I were curious about this place since learning that it was voted the best Mexican restaurant in Saratoga Springs's "Fab Five" awards survey, despite being ten miles from Broadway. We like the Cantina restaurant in Saratoga itself, but this place really is better. We had dinner at the bar, and the friendly bartender made us some wonderful Margaritas. Then, after sharing some guacamole and a small Mexican pizza, I had a chicken fajita, while my wife had some chicken tacos. Both were superb, and we left quite happy.
