Stay away from this restaurant! Terrible customer service!! The water service came and the water had something floating in it. I brought it up to the servers attention and she therefore went to her boss with it as a complaint. He came back angry and stated if we wanted water we had to pay for bottled water which costs $3 each. Where is the customer service! Nope! The rest of my group decided to order, their comments were that the food was tasteless!!! This is not the place I would go to for good Mexican food or good customer service! But the food- not so good: steak was fatty and mediocre tasting, guac was bland, so we're the chips; the Mexican lasagna didn't taste good at all. When I have a Mexican food craving, Mexican Connection is my go-to. My husband and I sat at the bar and were just in time for happy hour. With our first round of margs (house margaritas only $5 each), we enjoyed the chips and salsa. They offer two salsas: hot and mild. I could eat the hot salsa by the bucket-full. Tacos were on happy hour special for $3 each. They offer hard or soft with a variety of fillers: veggie, chorizo, chicken, pork, or beef. I ordered two soft chicken tacos, while my husband ordered three hard chicken tacos and damn they were good! The bartenders were top notch - very nice, attentive, and prompt. From conversation at the bar, it seems they get a lot of regulars. One couple comes all the way from Pittsfield Massachusetts each week to have dinner! Our bill was dirt cheap - $45 dollars for dinner and two rounds of drinks. On Mondays they have an all-night happy hour. We will be back for that! read more

Just did a pick up ordered two salads. One was the chicken fajita salad which inexplicably on the ordering app you can't order chicken. The default was rancid shredded beef. The other was a guacamole salad which wasn't bad. Just a bit under seasoned. I would give that three stars, but given how foul the "chicken" fajita salad was, I can't do better than one. Wife and I really liked this place. Employees were friendly, place was clean and the food was quite good! Please see all my pics...American Mexican food here...no mole sauces or the like...and that's totally okay. Not a super huge place, directly across the street from the Saratoga Racetrack. Parking around both sides of building with lots of room. It's in an old house, but they have painted it up and it was clean. I checked out the men's bathroom...small but clean. Well kept. Free chips and salsa when you sit down and they bring both hot and mild salsa. I think it's homemade...we liked It! Had both chicken and beef tacos, both crunchy and soft, and liked all 4. They put lots of seasoned meat and cheese on all. Lettuce was cold and fresh. Served all 4 on on a super hot plate...very hot. Hot stayed hot and cool stayed cool...I love that! Seasoned beef has a little spice to it. Wife had a chimichanga, which I of course sampled...it was good!!! Not as big as I thought it would be, but still big enough. Guac is homemade and definitely has jalapenos in it. Their house made cream sauce was good too. Next time I order tacos I'm ordering some of that on the side for sure. Their refried beans were very tasty and I usually find refried beans to just be bland filler. I liked these. Turns out the friendly bartender on this Wednesday evening was Michaela; someone I know, so that was cool running into her and catching up a bit. Didn't have any drinks, but I'm sure she mixes a heavyweight margarita. She's a super cool chickee and this place is definitely lucky to have her. Happy hour specials from 4 to 6 and at the bar only and apparently they do 2 dollar tacos on Monday nights. Will go back for this!!! They open at 4 p.m. during the week and 11 am on Sat and Sun. Welp no doubt about it, these reviews speak for themselves. Our choices for the night: Cheese and spinach dip Super taco Sante fe enchilada This place needs to be exposed. It's fun, staff is energetic and the atmosphere is rustic and simple. We were hesitant at first seeing a few cars but who cares, our server Katie only made us feel more important and welcoming. We had a couple pomegranate margaritas ...BOMB , and beers. The food portions were monstrous and I will bet anyone to have an app and try to eat the super taco in its entirety. People are so caught up on the main strip on saratoga (cough cough cantina). but tonight.... tonight my friends, we engulfed ourselves in the simplicity and local favorite and were pleasantly surprised. We've lived in Saratoga Springs for years and never stopped in. A friend invited us to meet her for dinner and we were not disappointed. Margaritas are good and very reasonably priced. I had shrimp quesadilla, my wife had a chimichanga, and our friend had taco dish. They all came with very nice green salads with fresh ingredients. All super reasonably priced! We were heading to Malta Drive In and needed some dinner. There were a few places in the area that boasted vegan food and we generally love Mexican cuisine. There were a few vegan things on the menu and they were happy to accommodate our order with no dairy, meat, eggs. We order refried beans and they ended up calling us back to tell us they had dairy in them (which is excellent customer service.) So, that took our favorite Mexican protein off the table, so to speak. We got two taco salads and a tostada. The salads: The guacamole was decent. The ingredients were fresh. The taco shell was crispy. The portions were giant! The flavor was kind of bland though. And the lettuce was a salad mix, which I thought was kind of weird, but it said "salad" on the menu so it wasn't a surprise. Our biggest complaint was that there was no salsa, even though salsa is in the description. Diced tomatoes and fresh diced white onion, yes. But no sauce or salsa. Sad. Tostada: First, we were too full to eat it, but also, the corn tortilla was NOT crispy. Very limp and soggy. So, not a tostada. Also, we ended up waiting 20 min for pick up, past the 25 min they told us it would take. I might try again, but my expectations aren't too high. read more

I am trying to like this place. Service is subpar, the place is so loud you have to scream at the others at your table, to try and have a conversatio, lots of drunk obnoxious patrons. Went there for the first time on Friday night - it happened to be restaurant week in Saratoga. If I could give this place another half star, I would. The service was great and the food is fresh. First impression was that it was a very loud bar-like place....the front kinda is. The restaurant area in the back was much quieter, so that was definitely a good thing. So, right off the bat...it's not "authentic" mexican or even "Tex-Mex", but it was still decent. Just have reasonable expectations. Started with a glass of sangria - it was very nice and refreshing. My dining companion had a Dos Equis with lime...very "lime-ey". The selection of Tequila is huge. If I knew anything about Tequila, I'd probably spend some time here. The chips and salsa were just right. No weirdness - simple, well (but not overly) salted chips and 2 different kinds of salsa - mild and hot. Ok..more like very mild and kinda medium....but tasty! This wasn't the runny, chunky salsa - this is thicker "stick to yer chip" stuff (my preference). We decided to order off the Restaurant Week menu - it included a cup of soup, a main course and a dessert for $10. Really good deal. Started with the cheddar beer soup. Creamy and hot....good flavor - a nice small portion was just enough. We both got the Super Taco. It's huge. An enormous flour tortilla filled with shredded meat of your choice (had the chicken), spiced sour cream, cheese, lettuce and tomato. Ingredients were all fresh...and even though it's not "authentic" mexican, I enjoyed. We didn't have room for the complimentary dessert - a piece of cake (think it was called pineapple cake) - so we took that to go. It didn't taste like pineapple to me, but it was sweet, moist, frosted sugary goodness....and I enjoyed it later that evening. Overall, a good experience and I'll be back. read more

My husband and I wanted to take our family out for our last dinner before the new year. The restaurant that we typically eat at had over an hour wait so we figured we would try out Mexican Connection. For starters, we weren't able to get our baby's stroller through the front door and had difficulties accessing the handicap entrance. The place is very small so it took a few minutes for the server to find a spot that would accommodate our stroller. We were immediately brought over a basket of chips and fresh salsa. The salsa was tasty but the chips were absolutely store-bought chips ( and not the good ones). We ordered a margarita and it definitely only had a splash of tequila, if that. It took almost 45 minutes for us to get our food-- this was a long wait for 3 kids under the age of 4. When we got our food, it was piping hot. My husband's chimichanga was decent but the rest of the food lacked flavor. My enchilada had zero flavor and my boy's quesadillas were barely cooked. If you are considering eating here, do yourself a favor and drive down the road to Cantina or El Mexicano for much better food and margaritas! read more

Okay, we love this place and keep coming back. It's not because it's the best Mexican around, but it is one of the best. First, their happy hour is unbeatable. Their happy hour is every single day 4-6pm and ALL day on Mondays. $2 full size tacos fully loaded, $4 margaritas or $6 skinny margaritas! They've got beer specials too! We have been to every Mexican restaurant in the entire capital region and have yet to find a margarita that compares to Mexican Connection's skinny margarita! It is always good no matter who makes it. They use quality tequila, triple sec, and lime juice! That's it! It's perfect!! They serve bottomless chips that are fresh and two salsas (mild & hot)... both are delicious! It's a great place to meet up with friends or just grab a quick drink and a couple of tacos for dinner (solo or with a date). The service is good. There are usually some locals hanging at the bar, which is great to see! I like to take my family when they come to visit with the kids to enjoy $2 tacos! Also, kids eat free on Sundays!! The tacos are really good -- for $2! Not the best we've ever had! Not only that but it took us asking multiple times for things like water and more salsa. Our orders were screwed up and I think you should go over with your waitstaff what Vegan is. Update...we had their take-out tonight & food was hot, fresh tasting, and very good. Something to note - I ordered their spinach and cheese dip and asked for some of their chips to be included in with the order...there were none included. There was a pop-up when I ordered asking if we wanted utensils - I clicked yes...none included. Once again, and I should have known better from the other teeny piece of take-home cake we had, asked for the whipped cream, on the cheesecake ordered - nope, not this either. The cake, cost $6.95, was smaller than and thinner than my phone - see pictures. FYI, make sure to check your order before you leave if you get a to-go order. For an order that cost us $70 I expected better customer service! OMG we've lived right down the street from here and just never got to eat there. Big mistake... it's one of our new favorite places to go to. HUGE portions, everything is so fresh & tasty. My husband had the shredded chicken burrito grande and he was only able to eat a third. Ok, we did eat too many chips and salsa, oh and this amazing warm cheese and spinach dip. I had a plate with a 'smaller' beef burrito and rice, I only was able to eat a third. Next time my husband and I can get one dish and share, but who am I kidding - we are so looking forward to our leftovers! As Mexican food goes, I think this place is descent. I ordered the burrito with salad. It was a good size burrito, but the beans to beef ratio was off. There was so much bean in it, my stomach was about to burst. The size did not make up for the lack of shredded beef and flavor. I definitely needed the salsa to add to the bland taste. Beef could have used better seasoning or even salt! The chips were not my favorite. It tasted stale, but I think that was the flavor. I will say the salsa was good. I have been here before and I think their margaritas get more attention than the food. It's always crowded, but El Mexicano on Broadway is much better in my opinion. I'm not opposed to coming here again to try something else, but I won't miss it if I don't come back. Meh. read more

Got the Taco Salad today. Below is the description from their menu. There were no pinto beans. There was no tomato. There were no olives. There were no onions. The guacamole was obviously made yesterday and was disguisting. They did try to cover the whole thing with gobs of their spiced sour cream. We celebrated our anniversary by stopping in for dinner. This was our first visit and will not be our last! We were met by our waitress, Heather, who treated us so well and helped to make our special day even more special. She was friendly and helpful and professional but more importantly, Heather made sure we felt welcomed and valued as customers. The food was terrific, so fresh and perfectly seasoned. I cringe at all of the reviews that lied to me by saying that this is authentic Mexican food. I have to conclude that many of Mexican Connection's customers have never eaten at a Mexican restaurant that is both west of the Mississippi and south of the Mason-Dixon Line. I'm starting to come to the crushing conclusion that it might be awhile before I can get my hands on some real Mexican food. Rant aside, the food isn't bad for what it is (I called it Tex-Mex; my husband wrinkled his nose at this and said it's more like "North-Mex"). I do give them credit for offering a salsa that had at least a little heat to it (I would call it medium rather than hot, but at least it didn't taste like diced tomatoes and sugar, as is the case at many "Mexican't" places). The chilaquiles were a little weird for me. I enjoyed the tomatillo flavor, but the dish wasn't spicy at all. In fact, the predominant flavor was kind of sour ... there seemed to be a profusion of lime in the dish, and there was an ENORMOUS blob of sour cream on top. I actually enjoyed my leftovers more than my original meal at the restaurant ... maybe sitting in my refrigerator overnight gave the flavors a chance to mellow out a bit. Don't get me wrong; the dish wasn't bad ... just odd. You can get a decent meal at Mexican Connection, and I did enjoy the fun, lively atmosphere. We decided to try and the parking lot had a good amount of people, so we were hopeful. But, alas, this was a one-and-done for us. The food simply had no flavor. We are not red meat eaters, so we went with the chicken in our dishes and it was blah. The guacamole is very good and the chimi, taco plate was the best of the three. The burro grande tasted about as awful as it looked and the red sauce tasted like they forgot to put seasoning in it. The chilaquiles had so much sour cream you could not eat them. I always get in a fight with my girlfriend here. I might be allergic to margarita's, or the salsa make me feisty, I just don't know what the story is. It a fun place, and the food is good (can be a little greasy/ too much fried shit but thats half the point). There was a live band playing excellent latin jazz, they give free nachos and great salsa. Your author gives apologies to his beloved reader regarding his behavior at the Mex -X. Sometimes you fight with people you love. Sometimes its a way to show your love you're willing to dig your heels in and stand for something. Sometimes fighting even makes you feel loved and makes you realize your behavior is small and fighting is not worth it anymore and you should have some sex when you get home. read more

I looooooooooooooove this place! I remembered coming here when I was a kid, and was soo happy to find that it was still open when we moved back to NY. Awesome margaritas, BEST SHREDDED CHICKEN BURRITO exactly as I remembered it. My BF was a fan of his fajitas and they give you a bunch of sour cream which is like, unheard of! Priced a little higher than comparable Mexican places in the area, but worth it. The staff is awesome. The owner/floor manager/someone of importance was constantly checking everything, talking to customers, making sure everything was going smoothly. Very attentive. Good music. DISCLAIMER: Like Samantha said, it's not authentic, and I'd agree to call it North-Mex. But I'd rather have a moist, sour cream slathered shredded chicken burrito than a dried out chunky chicken burrito in TJ anyway. We had heard not such great reviews but it's really good!!! We went and it wasn't busy and we got a great waitress which I hear is the secret to having a good meal here. They were accommodating when we changed our reservation multiple times. The chips and dips are good and they do a decent spicy margarita that you can order different levels of spice. I got the chimichanga which was huge and delicious. Everyone else got the huge tacos which they all finished even though they were huge. Service was fast. Waitress even agreed when our guests said the chicken wasn't good there. She said order something other than chicken... so do the shredded beef in tacos etc. It's right outside the back of the track so it's quick and easy. Good Mexican close by town. read more

Went last night, 4/9/10 for dinner. Atmosphere- 4 stars. Relaxed and not overwhelmingly loud or anything. Generally crowded. Service- 3 Stars. Our waiter last night was excellent. In the past we have had mixed experiences. Food- 3 stars. Free endless chips with two salsas is nice. Nachos supreme were a little too loaded for my tastes, and almost all the chips became really soggy and kinda disappeared. It almost became a dip for the chips intended for the salsa because there was nothing left. We split the Shrimp fajitas which were rather good, had the right flavors and was perfectly cooked. Nothing overwhelmingly fantastic, but nothing bad either. Price- 2 Stars. I feel they are a shade high considering what they serve. $8 for a guacamole appetizer seems a little much. Drinks- 4 Stars. I just came into Mexican Connection for the first time in 5 years, big mistake . Let's just start out with we got sat at a table with broken chairs and a dirty table . Then waited for 20 min for someone to get our drink order mind you ... there was 2 tables in the restaurant. I ordered my children's food my son ordered a so called "Mexican Pizza" or brunt tortilla with cheese and a miniature quesadilla for my other son . Then when I ask to speak to a manager I get "there is no one to speak to " which in the restaurant business is unheard of .
