We went classic with the entrees - catfish with gulf shrimp. The catfish was cooked perfect super tender and flaky. I wasn't thrilled with the shrimp, for "gulf shrimp" as they listed in the menu they were a lot Smaller than I expected and a little tough. The sauce they came in was nice. I would have liked some kind of sauce on the side for the catfish. The collard green rice was delicious and the broccoli that came with it was prob the most delicious broccoli I've ever had, just cooked well in lots of butter! The other entree we got was the fried chicken. Really delicious and tender. It came with a sweet potato side that was yummy and a classic collard greens Even tho we were stuffed we had to try the bread pudding, it was served with a Side of delicious ice cream. Cecile, the events manager, was incredibly responsive and detail-oriented, and she was happy to work with us in accommodating our guests' dietary restrictions and navigating the neighborhood noise restrictions. At the wedding itself, the staff were all warm and helpful and made things run smoothly. When I forgot my bridal bouquet, the staff rescued it and had it ready for my mother to pick up the next day. Our wedding was 75 people, and we had plenty of room to have everyone seated for the ceremony and dinner, plus space for a dance floor. We met with Cecile a few days before to walk through our plan, which she had clearly read through carefully, and she and her team were able to execute everything with no issues. In many ways, she acted like a day-of coordinator for us, which meant another big expense saved. As he stepped outside, I asked my husband to check if he wanted something to eat. When my husband came back, he told me he had given him money. While that was kind, I honestly would have preferred to get him food myself just to make sure he actually ate. A few minutes later, the man came back in and sat at the counter. At first, I didn't see anyone approach him, but shortly after, the staff brought him a bag with food. I'm not sure if he ordered through the take out window then came in, paid the waiter, or if it was provided to him, but either way, it meant a lot to see. He took his food and left. What stood out most was that the staff didn't ignore him, rush him out, or treat him like he didn't belong. At one point, I even heard a staff member ask if he had received his juice, which made me think this wasn't their first interaction with him. In a world where people are often overlooked or dismissed, it meant a lot to see a business show simple human kindness. Treating people with dignity and empathy shouldn't be rare--but unfortunately, it often is. For that alone, Honey's Sit 'n Eat deserves recognition. Oh... and the food is always great!

His response was, "What, you didn't know tilapia is fish?" Despite his obnoxious tone, I replied respectfully, "I had no idea that was fish."He looked at me with clear disdain and said, "Well, I still have to charge you for the fish, so what else would you like?" I replied that I did not want anything else, just the bill.I will never set foot in Honey's again. I'm not sure why I waited so long to try the chicken at Bud and Marilyn's, but better late than never! They serve a LARGE 1/2 chicken. I started with the thigh. I was smitten by the first bite. I was told the chicken is soaked in a buttermilk brine for 24-48 hours - dipped in a buttermilk dredge - covered with their 'secret recipe' seasoned flour - and fried in a 'pressure fryer' that cooks the chicken in 12 minutes. It was perfectly fried - so crispy - the texture and seasoning of the exterior coating was incredible. The chicken was tender and juicy - the thigh was the juiciest - I didn't get to try the drumstick as I was too full! I had the thigh and 1/2 the breast. The breast is my favorite and I savored each large delicious piece I broke apart. It's important to pick up the chicken and eat it by hand - I did cut mine in half for a picture - but didn't use a fork to eat it - you lose the 'panache'of the meal. I didn't use the hot sauce served with the chicken - I brought my own bottle of honey and poured it over the chicken and biscuits. It was heavenly! Which brings me to the Biscuits! The dish comes with 2 large fluffy buttermilk biscuits - they were golden brown on the outside and tender and fluffy on the inside! They had such a rich, buttery flavor. We visited Amina with a party of 8 for a 5:30 PM reservation. There were definitely some highs and lows throughout our experience. First, the ambiance is amazing. The restaurant is absolutely beautiful, and we loved the overall design and atmosphere. We especially enjoyed the photo booth. The pictures were $7, but it was a fun experience, and being able to email the photos to yourself was a nice touch. Unfortunately, the service was the biggest disappointment. We arrived before our 5:30 reservation, but the doors didn't open until after our reservation time. Once inside, it took a long time to place our orders and receive our food. We understand that a party of 8 can be more difficult to manage, but there was very little communication or explanation of the menu items. We also ordered a fe appetizers, including the peri peri wings and kankan shrimp. Both were good, but the portions were fairly small. We wish our server had recommended ordering two of each for a party of 8, but no recommendations were made. This is the type of guidance we would have appreciated from the staff. As for the food itself, we were pleasantly surprised. Several of us ordered the braised oxtail. It was good and flavorful, although it was a little sweeter than we personally expected. My girlfriend and a few others ordered the stand-alone rib, which was probably one of the highlights of the meal. The presentation was beautiful, and the rib had a wonderful taste and texture. My mom ordered the picnic basket fried chicken, which she really enjoyed as well. We also brought our own cake, and I do want to give the restaurant credit for accommodating us and helping with the cake. There was a $3 per person cake-cutting charge, which I personally found questionable, especially for a party of 8, but it is what it is. One other detail that was disappointing was the condition of the floor around our table when we arrived. It was dirty, which stood out because the restaurant itself is so beautifully designed. Overall, I think Amina has a lot of potential to become something really special. The space is gorgeous, the food was good overall, and there are clearly some great ideas behind the restaurant. However, the service and attention to detail need to improve. Everyone needs to be on the same page about the level of hospitality expected and what it means to create a great experience for guests. Amina in Philadelphia is an absolute gem, and if you're looking for a place that radiates Black excellence, this is it. From the moment you walk through the door, you're enveloped in an atmosphere that celebrates Black culture in every corner. The joyful laughter, the smooth R&B playing in the background, the warm scents of incense and sage wafting through the air..it feels like a homecoming. It feels like a soulful embrace. We arrived without a reservation, but the staff was incredibly accommodating, squeezing us into two tables at the back. Despite being next to the kitchen, the vibe was still on point. The kitchen staff was jamming, singing while they worked hard, adding to the lively, spirited energy that filled the space. The only small hiccup was the wobbly table, but honestly, that was nothing compared to the overall vibe of the place. For those with mobility issues, the staircase to the bathroom might be a bit challenging. I don't have any issues but personally, found it to be a tight space and only one person can go up or down at a time. As for the food, it was a journey through rich, flavorful fusion of African and Southern cuisine. We ordered almost everything on the menu and shared it family-style because that's how we roll although some of the items we needed to order twice because there was a lot of us. Everything was packed with flavor, from the soul-warming mac and cheese to the crispy fried chicken basket (which was hands down the winner of our group) and the perfectly seasoned Nigerian hot chicken. The gumbo was comforting, and the fried mushrooms were a standout. The cornbread was surprisingly just okay. The banana pudding didn't quite hit the mark for us, but even the least favorite dish was still above average. Overall, Amina provides a memorable experience that you won't want to miss. Overall, I enjoyed my experience, but I do think it's a little pricey for the amount of food you get. And honestly, if you've eaten at one, you've kinda eaten at them all when it comes to these soul-food-inspired restaurants. Would I go back? Probably for the ambiance, drinks, and to try something different on the menu. The atmosphere is definitely one of the biggest draws for me. Beautiful inside, great service, crispy catfish, and good vibes!

I came early to beat the crowd that I know looms on the popular Brunch days-Saturday and Sunday, and I'm glad I did. I was greeted as soon as I entered, and the host gave me a menu with a plethora of brunch options. I ordered the french toast, turkey sausage patties, and fish and grits to get a comprehensive range of what the chefs had to offer. The sides of the french toast were given that perfect brown char, and the homemade icing with whipped cream topped off this go-to brunch item that didn't even need syrup as it was blooming with cinnamon, icing, and a buttery exterior that was instantly satisfying. The fish for the fish and grits was fried to golden perfection, and its seasonings added a great combination to my cheesy grits. The grits were al dente and were garnished well with extra spices to add additional flavoring alongside the fried fish. ELEVEN ELEVEN is a great place to come and have breakfast/brunch with friends and family. Moreover, it has an ideal scene for taking pictures to savor the moment and post on Facebook, IG, or anywhere else. They also play music that will leave you dancing in your seat while the food has your taste buds and stomach dancing with the delicious flavors staff at ELEVEN ELEVEN curated on their menu. I recommend LEVEN ELEVEN and will return the next time I am in the city.

No printed menus - just a minuscule QR code taped to the table. Water was served in plastic cups. Music is mild hip hop -- with commercials between songs at times. The staff is not unfriendly but definitely did not add to the experience. When I handed my credit card over with the check, I was asked verbally if I wanted to add a tip and for how much - rather than filling this in myself on a printed receipt. I had the classic French toast. The brioche bread did not seem like it was from a freshly made loaf - more the consistency and shape/size of packaged bread from a grocery store. The flavor was nice/fine, but it didn't really have the quality of good brunch restaurant French toast - for instance, it was very soft throughout including on the outsides, without any crisp or crunch from the cooked batter. I also ordered turkey sausage which was on the menu, but was told this wasn't available. Overall, I think there are some nice ideas behind the theory but the execution was completely incongruent with this. If they want to go for a more simple home cooked breakfast spot vibe, they are closer to realizing that. But they have a very long way to go to compete with the higher end brunch scene in Philadelphia. My star rating reflects the expectation of the former, and would be more like 3.5 if considering as just a simple breakfast place.

My husband and I reviewed the menu and placed our beverage orders. I ordered water with ice and lemon, while my husband ordered water without ice or lemon. We both received waters with ice. We asked about the ingredients in the grits and were told they were prepared with cream and cheese. Because of a dietary restriction, we specifically requested that the cheese be omitted, and we were told that would not be a problem. My husband ordered fried whiting, lightly scrambled eggs, grits, and toast with grape jelly. When his meal arrived, the eggs had heavy melted cheese across the top despite our dietary request. The fish was fried extremely hard. It was not flaky at all, and some areas were so hard the fish was difficult to eat. The grits were tasty, and you could definitely taste the cream as expected. I ordered brioche French toast with cinnamon, no powdered sugar, and a side of turkey bacon. I received two slices of French toast cut into four sections and questioned whether the bread was actually brioche. The turkey bacon, however, was cooked perfectly. My husband's eggs were sent back because of the cheese. When they returned, the eggs were cooked hard rather than lightly scrambled. Once again, there was no silverware. I'm still sitting there with my French toast and bacon, unable to eat because we had no utensils. We had to remind the staff about the silverware, napkins, and the toast again. Eventually, everything except the napkins was brought out. At that point, I decided to locate the napkins myself. I want to emphasize that our server remained polite and pleasant. My disappointment was not with the server's attitude; it was with the execution of the meal, the preparation of the food, and the overall dining experience--especially the quality of the fish and the failure to follow a clearly communicated dietary request. We ate a small portion, paid for our meals, and left. Unfortunately, there was also a safety concern on our way out. A broom was stretched across the opening of the steps leading from the rear area of the restaurant, and we had to step over it to exit. I found that to be an extreme safety hazard. I genuinely wanted to support this business and was hoping for a great experience. Unfortunately, the food preparation, failure to follow a dietary request, delays in receiving basic dining necessities, quality of food - "fish "and the safety concern at the exit left me very disappointed. I gave it a try, but unfortunately, once was enough for me.

I went to the back to take a quick picture and saw two women eating crabs, so I asked them how they were. They said they were just okay and not very meaty, and from what I saw, they did look a bit small. I went back to the counter and asked for a menu, and the woman did hand it to me. I asked about ordering wings, but she walked away without saying anything no I'll be right back or anything. She was more focused on a guy who appeared to be a regular, so I was left just standing there. After waiting a bit and not being acknowledged, I decided to leave. I can't speak on the food since I didn't order, but based on the experience and what I saw/heard, I'm not sure this is a place I'd go out of my way to return to.

We hit happy hour and it did not disappoint. It was a huge bang for your buck. Parmesan herb fries, eggplant whip with warm pita, and French onion soup wontons were all delicious (the wontons especially, such a fun twist). Drinks-wise, the mango margarita and strawberry vodka sensation were both great. Our daughter was celebrating and got the fanciest cookies-and-cream milkshake with an Oreo on top. It was a total hit. Service was warm and attentive, and the owner came by to say hi, clearly happy to have us there. That kind of personal touch goes a long way. This place is an underrated gem and deserves to be in everyone's rotation, even just for happy hour. We'll be back soon to try more of the menu with friends.

This place is still it!…read more Miss the old locations (including the short-lived Ardmore locale), but was relieved to find that food-wise my favorite brunch spot in all of Philly is still that, numero uno. A few of my old favorites are gone (R.I.P. Challah French Toast), but there are plenty of new options on the menu that make up for it including the amazingly good breakfast poutine with pickled peppers. The new location trades the hidden gem, hole-in-the-wall vibe for better ventilation, natural lighting, and a (slightly) improved parking situation.
