I recently visited Honey's Sit 'n Eat and witnessed something that truly stood out to me. While we were there, a man who appeared to be homeless came in and stood by the register. I paid attention to how the staff would handle the situation. After helping the current customer, the cashier gave him a cup of juice. I didn't see any payment, so I assumed it was offered to him. As he stepped outside, I asked my husband to check if he wanted something to eat. When my husband came back, he told me he had given him money. While that was kind, I honestly would have preferred to get him food myself just to make sure he actually ate. A few minutes later, the man came back in and sat at the counter. At first, I didn't see anyone approach him, but shortly after, the staff brought him a bag with food. I'm not sure if he ordered through the take out window then came in, paid the waiter, or if it was provided to him, but either way, it meant a lot to see. He took his food and left. What stood out most was that the staff didn't ignore him, rush him out, or treat him like he didn't belong. At one point, I even heard a staff member ask if he had received his juice, which made me think this wasn't their first interaction with him. In a world where people are often overlooked or dismissed, it meant a lot to see a business show simple human kindness. Treating people with dignity and empathy shouldn't be rare--but unfortunately, it often is. For that alone, Honey's Sit 'n Eat deserves recognition. Oh... and the food is always great! read more

People kept raving about this place, so I decided to visit. I was seated and given a menu. Before I go any further, it is important to note that I am extremely allergic to all seafood. I do not know the names of different types of seafood, and whenever I dine out, almost every server asks if there are any dietary restrictions or allergies. As I read through the menu, the dishes sounded new and delicious. I said, "This sounds great--can I try this tilapia thing?" I specifically referred to it as "this tilapia thing" because I did not know it was fish. I don't eat fish, I had no idea people eat fish for breafest and I don't know they name of any seafood. Well I know bass and salmon :-) When our food arrived, I saw that my dish contained fish. I immediately informed the waiter that I could not eat it because it was seafood. His response was, "What, you didn't know tilapia is fish?" Despite his obnoxious tone, I replied respectfully, "I had no idea that was fish."He looked at me with clear disdain and said, "Well, I still have to charge you for the fish, so what else would you like?" I replied that I did not want anything else, just the bill.I will never set foot in Honey's again. I am deeply disappointed by the way I was treated and I am not a fan of privileged individuals who believe they can treat others with disdain and disrespect. Never Again! read more

Updated review for Honey's Sit & Eat -- still a solid go-to brunch spot. The food continues to be consistently good, which is why we keep coming back. It's especially great with kids -- they have a solid kids menu and plenty of side options, which makes it easier to find something for little ones. My 4-year-old loves it, which is always a win. That said, it's almost always packed, especially on weekend mornings, so expect a crowd. Service can be a bit hit or miss during those busy times. Service was fine. You can tell they know their regulars and take good care of them. I was directed to a QR code for the menu and it brought me to order so I just ordered that way, not realizing the server would have taken my order. There were some items on my food not listed on the menu (tomatoes and onions) so I just pushed them to the side. Not a deal breaker. I requested my egg be cooked over medium and it was actually over easy. It didn't ruin the dish though. I got the enfrijoladas and added the chorizo. The beans were a bit runny, especially with the runny yolk. But the flavor was on point. Everything worked well together, the sauces, chorizo, microgreens, beans and eggs. I thought it was a really decent sized serving for the price. The interior is cute and has a lived in feel to it. Like you are at someone's house having a meal. They all have been pleasant to chat with and provide exceptional service. This has been one of my go to spots for years. Some of my regular selections are the Jebs open faced biscuit with the eggs fried hard and home fries extra crispy. This is a great meal b/c you get a biscuit with gravy, veggie sausage, and eggs all in one. The home fries are delicious, as is, but I like mine to be a little bit more on the crispy side. Additionally, I love to order the French toast platter. This is self explanatory. Lastly, a classic that I used to get all the time was the breakfast b0mb. I thought the restaurant had a pretty cool concept in that I felt like I was dinning in my grandmother's kitchen. The experience, especially the aesthetic, felt less like eating in a restaurant and more like eating in a family member's house. Honey's has a pretty decent diverse menu, so I think everyone should be able to find something eat. While I am not a vegan, I thought it was pretty cool that this Southern-style restaurant had a couple of vegan options. For my dining pleasure, I went with the small catfish fish and grits. While I thought the portions was pretty decent for the $11 price tag, I thought the dish was a bit bland for my tastes. Fortunately, the tables have ample amounts of salt, pepper, Sriracha sauce and Chola hot sauce. Overall, we thought the service was fine and somewhat efficient. Unfortunately, we did have to request a refill on decaf coffee three times for one of the diners in our party. We were told that the decaf coffee needed to be brewed, which is fine, but I do not think they started to brew the coffee until after we made the second request. Outside of that (very) minor issue, I thought everyone in our four-person dining party was satisfied with their meals. Just be aware that this restaurant is pretty popular, so there might be a bit of a wait for brunch especially if more than two folks are eating. I think we arrived just in time. Although we had only a five-minute wait, folks who arrived after us had to wait anywhere from 30 to 45 minutes. While I'm not 100% sure, I do not think the restaurant takes reservations because I did not see that option on the website. Truth be told, I had my doubts and was clueless about what the heck an open- faced biscuit was. We got there shortly after 12 and the placed was packed both indoor and outside. We had a 20 mins wait which gave us just enough time to stroll the block and check out the nearby plant shop. Once we were called we immediately ordered lemon iced tea and hot chais. Chai was great. Tea was refreshing but a tad earthy for my taste. Adding a splash of raw sugar didn't help so I moved on. And then it was time for food. We started to order the fish and grits but was told one of the items they use for the sauce was missing and it drastically changed things so we stuck to (2) open -faced biscuit, vegan sausage, egg whites scrambled hard, and I had home fries while my partner had grits with his. Baybeeee! Listen, when I tell you this is the best breakfast I have EVER had; I tell no lies. First off the biscuit really is all that. A tiny hint of honey surfaces with each bit but it's not overly sweet. The texture is crispy on the shed without losing its moisture and it's not overly dense making you feel stuffed. The eggs were perfection, sausage yummier than expected and the home fries were perfectly seasoned with sautéed onions and peppers. I danced all over that plate two stepping between sausage and eggs, eggs and biscuit, biscuit and sausage... you get the drift. My mouth had a sweet little party and I was only able to eat a half of said meal. You know I shamelessly asked for a container and took my leftovers. Half way on the drive back to NYC I ate that sucker cold and the best part is it tasted just as good if not better. This is now at the top of my favorite list in Philly. If you are lucky enough, you may even be able to snag a spot at their counter seating. I thought their service was great and very attentive, but it is a bit chaotic inside. You just gotta embrace it. Okay - let's get into the food! I found it hard to make a decision between their eggs or pancakes or french toast...it all looks so good. Fortunately, they have a monte cristo sandwich called the Honey Cristo. I went with this, and it was no joke. Massive sandwich, with ham and swiss piled high between two fluffy challah french toast slices, topped with juicy sunny eggs. It comes with a hearty side salad that makes you feel mentally better for what you are about to eat, but it was truly a refreshing counter to the rich and savory cristo. I also just couldn't pass up on their special pancake, which was essentially a heaping portion of mac & cheese served in a pancake style. This was yummy on both spectrums of the palate...you could enjoy with hot sauce/ketchup or with syrup (or both if that is your speed.) One thing you won't leave there with, is an empty stomach. The good: I think we found a new favorite breakfast spot! It was excellent ! From the coffee (red eye served in a huge cup!) to the jam served with a fresh biscuit. The ingredients seemed fresh and perfectly prepared. We enjoyed the fish and grits half portion( should've gotten a full portion because now Im sad ) paired that with a short stack (couldn't eat because we were stuffed) they were fluffy . The country fried steak was phenomenal and sunny side eggs soaked the potatoes and biscuit for a delicious bite. It was all good. The rhubarb lemonade was refreshing. This is a tiny little restaurant with food that literally smacks you in the face. Everything is so delicious! This was the best breakfast we had while in Philly! Despite being packed we were seated and served pretty quickly! I had a French toast platter with scrambled eggs, home fries and sausage and it was so good. Anytime friends or family visit, I bring them here. From the outside, Honey's has a dandelion yellow exterior with a tomato vine mural, tables with umbrellas lining the front and a take-out window for quick coffee orders around the corner. When you walk inside, the walls are a dark green shade lined with antiques and Southern-charm collectibles. It is always bustling with people and you typically have to wait at least 15 minutes...but it is *always* worth it. Here, the waiters and waitresses make sure to keep your coffee cup filled and the food arrives quickly. It's a place where people gather and is most definitely a community staple. My favorite dish is the breakfast burrito. The thick-cut bacon is always perfectly cooked with a slight crispy crunch that's not-yet burnt. The large tortilla keeps the eggs and veggies packed tight inside without getting wet as you keep eating. It's always so disappointing when your burrito breaks apart on you but this doesn't happen at Honey's! The cheese melts perfectly into the eggs with the right portion of beans, onions and peppers. The fan-favorite are the pancakes which taste like buttermilk and have the right amount of "fluff" inside. Their array of lattes never disappoint, but my favorite is the salted caramel. If you're ordering a hot latte, it comes in a round, cozy mug. The hot chocolate arrives with a HOMEMADE marshmallow floating on top...get out! This is going to sound crazy, but brunch at Honey's is better than most because they properly season their egg dishes. Like, I've never had to pick up the salt or pepper there. I've never had to go hard with the hot sauce. You can tell that the cooks at Honey's aren't afraid of offending the blander palates. My friend and I came here for breakfast on a Saturday morning. We got here early, but it was already so busy! We waited for a table of two to be cleared for us to be seated. It is a neighborhood, small restaurant. We had walked here from my friend's apartment. Food: I ordered the breakfast sandwich with some impossible (? - vegetarian) breakfast sausage. The sandwich was a good size, and it was really good. I also got a hot pumpkin dirty chai that I enjoyed. Service: Service was friendly. Our server came by to grab our drink order and bring us some waters quickly. Our food took a little longer than expected as we were starving, but they were quite busy so it was expected.
