I can't say enough good things about Amir Mozaffarian Fine Jewels, particularly Cynthia. She's been so kind, professional, and helpful - I adore her. When my boyfriend (Andy) and I were shopping for my engagement ring, we went to all the other jewelry stores in the neighborhood (and then some) looking for the right ring. I am indecisive but I also have pretty specific taste...it wasn't easy for me to find much I liked, let alone something I thought I'd like for the rest of my life! We also had no idea what we were doing, neither of us had any experience buying fine jewelry. I found I ring I loved IMMEDIATELY when we went to Mozaffarian. We also liked that the store is small, and it is very carefully and beautifully curated...other places felt a little overwhelming. Mozaffarian really feels like a family owned business, and there are so few places like that left in San Francisco now. The store is quiet and it's evident from the moment you walk inside that this a place you go when you are SERIOUS about buying a beautiful piece of jewelry (or a Faberge egg! It's fun to look at those) Cynthia helped us the first time we visited the store, and we both felt that she instantly understood what I was looking for, and she made excellent points that helped me decide what I wanted - even Andy couldn't accomplish that :) We were both struck by how knowledgeable Cynthia is, but at the same time how polite and sincere - I have never felt like anyone there was just trying to sell us something, and I can't think of any other retail environment I feel that way about. This is the kind of customer service that is incredibly difficult to find these days: knowledgeable, kind people who are eager and able to help you find exactly what you want. Cynthia and Amir worked with Andy to find the perfect diamond for my ring and I could not be happier. As particular as I was about the setting, Andy was even more particular about the diamond, but they found one that met his standards of cut, clarity, color, and carat. It's exactly what we both wanted and I absolutely love it. A year later I still get compliments on it ALL THE TIME - I always know it's time to get my ring cleaned when no one has commented on it in a few days! Cynthia may be the most eloquent person I've ever held a conversation with, and I always enjoy stopping by to get the ring cleaned and catch up. We're getting our wedding bands there now and we would never have considered going anywhere else, in part because Cynthia's guidance is so valuable. Walk through this shop and you will notice an amazingly high ratio of beautiful jewelry to square footage. It's not a super big store, but there seems to be cool things in every display case. Not like the typical jewelry store where you go in and come out feeling like you've wasted your time. The first time we came into this store, we were just strolling by and the window display caught our eye. Since then it has become a "destination" for jewelry occasions. But not to be outshone, the nice woman also asked me to try these other statement earrings in rose gold & I can say I'd never have pointed to those for myself but she definitely had an eye & a vision for fashion & what would go w/ my dress My current quandary is which to choose b/c I love them both! Over the past 15 years I have purchased many fine pieces of jewelry from Amir & Cynthia. From Faberge baubles to cuff links to even simple silver neck chains (even though I didn't realize they sold simple chains until I asked about them). Just because you do not see it in their cases, does not mean that they can not get something for you. When I first walked by their storefront back in the late 90's I was not sure if I was comfortable going in because the window displays are so stunning and almost museum like but I did go in and have never regretted that decision. I have always felt welcome even if in jeans and sneakers. After all they are there to sell jewelry that meets your needs and your budget. Some of the jewelry you will find there is just stunning to see. But no matter what your budget is or what your tastes might be Cynthia has a great eye for helping you to match the right setting with the right stones especially if you only have an idea of what you are searching for. They can make your dreams a reality and have earned my respect as my jeweler. Amir makes sure that the product they sell is high quality and searches the globe (literally) to find some of the pieces you will see there. My advice, don't be intimidated. Let me update that they are lying about me asking for a discount. I was asking about the clarity and color of the diamonds which they rudely wouldn't take the time to give me. I was looking closely at the design of the piece as I do at alot of stores. They accused me of being a jeweler. I dont have clients as I dont resale and keep the jewelry to wear myself. Also let me add that they were profiling me as well. I wear hats and glasses alot. It protects my skin. I was not wearing glasses in the store. I wear pants alot. It wasn't that hot outside. Let me also repost my original post as it needs to be kept front and center. This place is completely overpriced even with discounts. In my opinion, they are 90% dark chocolate bitter as well. They may not realize that their discounted prices are on par with regular prices of comparable quality. The owner was rude and condescending. Amir was rude, lacked customer service skills, and was using the outdated way of sizing customers up based on what they are wearing. Both were, in my opinion, bitter and out of touch with the current climate of retail. Worked with Cynthia and Amir on an engagement ring project and I could not be happier with product selection, their experience in the industry, their very exacting eye for design, and professional demeanor. My experience at Amir Mozaffairian. 8/28.08 Decent selection... nice store.. poor service! I'm getting married in couple weeks and was in the market for a nice simple wedding band. I was looking to purchase a Christian Bauer ring and their official website recommended this store. I think this was my first mistake when I didn't wear my Armani suit and so b/c I was in shorts and polo I received the worst retail service ever! btw there was nobody else in the store... The simple ring I wanted didn't have a simple price tag ($3k no diamond) so I had a bunch of questions about the brand, fitments, and basic care of the ring. Immediately I felt a bit of resistance and feeling like Julia Roberts on Rodeo Drive in the movie "Pretty Women". After trying on 2 rings and 5 minutes in the store, Cynthia Mozaffarian seem to have already profiled me as a non-buying customer and asks if "I was planning on ordering it today?" which I thought was a terrible thing to do as a salesperson when you haven't even given me enough info to make a educated purchase. She gave me the impression that I was wasting her time and taking her away from surf the web. As a minority, I didn't expect this kinda of treatment from an Iranian family jeweler. I've purchased my engagement ring and both my and my fiancee's wedding bands from Amir and Cynthia. They run a beautiful store with a really impressive selection. When I was looking for my wedding ring, Amir had close to 200 different ring designs to look at - and he let us take our time to browse the selection without pressure. The pieces we've gotten are custom or based off of an existing design, and they did a wonderful job of guiding us through that process. They're really good at helping you figure out what you want without steering you based on their taste. They're patient, helpful, and deliver a wonderful product. My fiancée and I learned about Amir from one of her coworkers who got her engagement ring from Amir and had a great experience. We were looking for a custom ring based on a few ideas my fiancée had and Amir was really helpful. He spent a lot of time sitting down with us and talking through her ideas as well as helping understand what exactly was working for us and what wasn't. He let us completely customize the whole ring from my fiancée sketching out a rough idea of the setting and stone shapes she liked and letting us look through and pick out the individual stones to use. I really feel like he enabled us to get the exact ring we wanted without pushing us to go in a different or more conventional direction. In the end, the ring was absolutely gorgeous and it's immediately apparent when looking at this ring (as well as any other piece in the store) that Amir has real talent and an eye for harmony. We wanted several different stones (opal, peridot, topaz, pearl) and in several different shapes and they all fit together so beautifully in the final product. I don't see us going anywhere else for custom jewelry in the future. As icing on the cake, not only was Amir very attentive, friendly, and professional, but his pricing was very reasonable. My fiancée and I would joke every time we passed by the DeBeers store down the block about how folks walking in there were overpaying for a much more generic diamond ring. Not us! read more

Awful, awful service. My girlfriend and I visited this place while ring-shopping (and even being dressed up for it!), and we received the snootiest, most arrogant quasi-service we've ever been subjected to. We were immediately put off by the sales-lady's condescension and her calling us out for mis-using terms (in a condescending way). After determining that none of their engagement rings suited our tastes, we wanted to take a look at their wedding bands. She AUDIBLY SIGHED, and retrieved a box of men's rings. When my girlfriend attempted to adjust the box so she could see the rings more clearly, the "sales"-lady applied force to the box so that my girlfriend (and bride to be) could not see the rings. PROTIP: If you want to sell wedding bands, make it easy for both of the customers to see them. Ok, so one sales lady is having an awful day and/or will be fired soon, right? NOPE. The proprietor of the business was on a call right next to us, so this is obviously her modus operandi. Also, there were NO other customers in the store (Monday afternoon), so we weren't drawing her away from other business. Don't waste your time here. Even if you ARE wearing an Armani suit and are willing to drop the money for a 2+ carat ring, there's absolutely no reason to support this sort of idiocy. read more

I'm happy as could be after finding Cynthia at Amir Mozaffarian for an engagement ring. I met Cynthia after having shopped in lots of places by myself, including wholesalers, because the ring was a surprise. I hadn't ever shopped for anything like this before, so had to ride a steep learning curve to get it done. What drew me to Mozaffarian was how great Cynthia was at talking through the nuances of the decisions. Quality, cut, setting, details, etc; she was a great communicator in walking me through all the factors. The attention to detail by her and their artists all show in the final products. It came out she has an engineering degree, and I think it shows in her precision. And she's really kind and considerate on top of it, so its a full package of someone who can make a hard decision a very enjoyable one. We decided to buy our wedding bands there too after my fiance met Cynthia. We shopped around for bands, and still stuck with Mozaffarian because of the quality of their rings and the great service shown by Cynthia. It's a family business and her husband, Amir, is equally as nice - I just happened to have met Cynthia and worked with her. They're a great pair running a very beautiful shop. I was recommended to Amir by my soon to be brother-in-law and I am very glad that he recommended me. I started researching diamonds and rings in Feb of 2015 when I decided to propose to my then girlfriend. I exhausted every online resource I could to learn about diamonds' specifications, dimensions, cuts, and angles. Since I was specifically looking for a cushion cut, my entire focus and goal was to find the most perfect cushion cut diamond there was. After I was through with my online research, I visited about 25 to 30 jewelers in the Bay area and in Portland, OR. From boutiques to big brand names, I compared and contrasted diamonds visually and based on their GIA certifications. I would consider myself, somewhat of a diamond expert at this point! Around June, I walked into Amir Mozaffarian's jewelry store, located in downtown SF. Parking is a bit of a hassle if you're not familiar with the city but again it's worth it. After meeting, getting to know, and consulting with Amir and his lovely wife, Cynthia, he showcased one of their fine FireCushion® diamonds. After comparing both diamonds side-by-side, his diamond was the most brilliant and perfectly cut diamond I had seen since the beginning of my research. I was immediately drawn to its appeal and I knew at that point that I could cease my research. Then, we started talking about rings and since I had a particular design in mind, Amir worked with me to custom make a piece of jewelry art that exceeded my expectations. My boyfriend and I came in to look at engagement ring settings and men's weddings bands, only to receive terrible service from a female salesperson. We were the only individuals in the store at 1pm on a Monday afternoon. Service was un-educational and cold. When the woman brought a box of wedding bands out into the customer shopping area she kept the box closer to her side of the glass cabinet. When I politely began to slide the box toward myself and my boyfriend she leaned on the box to prohibit it from sliding. She was essentially preventing me from seeing merchandise I guess because they thought we'd run away with the entire box? Customer service is terrible. I bought an expensive watch last fall. They couldn't remove links in the store, so it had to be sent out. Then the battery died after 9 months, and they couldn't replace while I waited so I had to leave it again. I don't live/work in SF, so repeated trips to the city is a hassle and I asked to have it sent. It was sent by fed ex for early weekday delivery with direct signature required. They refused to accommodate a disability by allowing weekend delivery or not requiring an in-person signature. How hard is it to allow weekend delivery or for me to leave a signature on the fedex door sticker, especially if disability involved??? Also, any jeweler should be able to remove links or change batteries while you wait. Given the price of what they sell, find better options that care about customer service. read more

The explained to us the 4 C's of diamond selection and so much more and they listened to our needs. We came up with some ideas and Amir gave us some interesting insights. I walked by this store while on another errand and decided to pop in to ask about resizing rings and to look at wedding bands. I was wearing athletic gear and I was the only person in the store. I've never been treated with such a condescending attitude when I was asking questions about sizing and about engagement bands. They clearly didn't think I would purchase something, and were so snobby and short with me. I've been in much higher end stores than this and have never experienced such poor customer service and attitude. As I walked out I stated to the security guard, snobby place! And the saleswoman immediately yelled out in anger how she was sorry I got this impression blah blah. I don't know what other impression she expected me to get when she basically refused me service and when each of her short responses to my questions were dripping with a condescending attitude. Maybe they had a bad year selling jewelry and were annoyed I got my diamond from a competitor at a cheaper price, but you would think they would at least want my business for a diamond engagement band. I would never walk into this shop again. Update: The shop replied to my post with untruths. They actually first asked me where my ring was from before determining it wasn't worth their time to resize (with a smug attitude). And of course I didn't have my ring with me, it's 2 sizes too big and I'm not wearing it at risk of it falling off. I popped into this store on a whim while running other errands. Funny that they basically are implying I don't have a ring, like somehow that excuses her behavior. And I definitely did want to look at engagement bands, when i walked in I stated I wanted to look at bands and ask about sizing. But I felt so uncomfortable by her condescending attitude that I left before ever getting to the band part. You can tell a lot about a business by their ability to apologize for poor customer experience, but here they used yelp as an opportunity to instead falsify what happened. Taking a look at other reviews seems like there were a few other people who have experienced the same bad attitude I received. The third place we stopped in at was Amir Mozaffarian, and when we entered we realized this was going to be a unique experience. The store was inviting and very elegant. And of all the places we visited, they had the most unique and tasteful collection of rings. Cynthia Mozaffarian made us feel comfortable right when we walked in. She listened to us describe the styles we were looking for, and intuitively understood which rings we might want to see. We then sat down and spent a really enjoyable time while she showed us their collection. We weren't looking for a single big stone for the engagement ring - we wanted both the engagement and wedding ring to be individual diamond bands that were unique and with character, but that looked incredible together. After trying on several rings, we found two that beautifully complemented each other. However, since this was our first weekend looking, we didn't want to commit to these two rings until we had a chance to see what else might be available. After we spent a few more weeks visiting other stores in the area and on Union Street (including a second trip to talk to Cynthia), we realized it was the two rings at Mozaffarian that we kept talking about. We saw a lot of diamonds, but it was the quality and the design of their two rings that we were in love with - the rings really "danced" together more so than anything else we saw. When we came back, Cynthia was delighted that their rings were the ones that we had decided on. She also offered great advice on the fit of the rings, which was a concern of ours. I have known Amir an Cynthia for many years. They have designed rings for me and other members of my family and we received complement after complement. Both of my daughter-in-law's engagement rings came from Amir. My wedding band is from this wonderful store. Graduation gifts were purchased here and I could go on and on. This is truly the go to jewelry store for everyone in my family. When ever I am in the neighborhood, I stop in to say hi. Of course I also have to check out all the beautiful merchandise. When I point out a piece, Cynthia brings it out of the case for me to inspect. There is never any pressure to buy. I do not understand any of the negative reviews given to this store since my experiences have been so different. I would recommend checking out this store whether you plan on buying a modest piece or an expensive piece. There is great value here and a wonderfully friendly and knowledgeable staff. Back in the 70's, well before the Iron Curtain fell, I was in Moscow on business. For souvenirs I went to the GUM department store, where you had to be a foreigner to get in and pay in hard currency. For myself I bought an elegant 17 jewel dress watch - for all of $10. When the cheap watch, which I loved, finally died I took it to Amir H Mozaffarian Fine Jewelry. The folks there sympathetically told me it could not be revived. But they cleverly offered the idea of replacing the old Russian mechanism with a new one, preserving the appearance of my Cold War souvenir. The Mozaffarian's fine service and workmanship have brought me and my wife back several times to make more orthodox repairs to family jewelry.
