My dad had a happy and successful stay. The PT and OT he received were excellent and if he ever had to go into a skilled facility again, this is where he would stay, hands down. My mother expressed her relief when she visited him and when she left at the end of the day. She knew he was being so well taken care of. I was desperate to get him home. Alena, the administrator, moved mountains to make that happen. They got my dad home in less than 18 hours, they were by my father's bedside within two hours of me calling desperate for help, which felt like a miracle during such a difficult time. Daniel, the nurse who came to the hospital, was so attentive and caring such a such a genuine person. And once we were home, nurse Julie and nurse Grace took over and truly went above and beyond. They made sure the bed oxygen tanks supplies and meds was delivered before my dad even got home.They made sure my dad was comfortable, out of pain, and surrounded by dignity and respect--something he was not receiving in the hospital. there was also a Sweet CNA that came to help as well, Because of them, my dad was able to pass peacefully at home, just as he deserved. That means everything to me my father and our family. All of my father's friends and loyal family were able to come visit with him before he passed the next morning.. However, we interacted the most with Grace who was on-call at the time we engaged them and helped my Dad a good bit during his last couple of days. Grace was super patient with us when we asked lots of questions about his care and hospice in general. LifeChoice also provided a rabbi for us and I think my father really appreciated that the rabbi visited with him for over an hour. I think they provided my father a lot of peace and comfort during his final days. My only regret was not engaging them sooner. After my mother passed in February of…read more2017, my 84 year old father needed an assisted living facility that met a variety of his needs - food preparation, housekeeping, personal assistance, 24 hour nursing and entertainment. Clarendale provides these services but goes WAY above and beyond what is normally expected. There is a bar with a daily happy hour, a theater room, health club, spa, salon, fine dining, cafe and even a house golden retriever. If you want to celebrate holidays at the facility, you can rent out a private dining room that has a capacity of 10-12. Clarendale feels more like a W Hotel than a retirement home. For years leading up to my father's move, i contacted a variety of assisted living facilities in the NW suburbs and routinely concluded the calls shaking my head. Aggressive sales pitches and evasive language were the norm (Friendship Village was the worst in this regard). While Clarendale does employ sales staff, it isn't so over-the-top. Moreover, staff are engaged and appear genuinely interested in providing a superior experience. In terms of the overall package (apartment finishing, staff, facilities, extra amenities), Clarendale is exceptional - better than Sunrise and Friendship Village. As this facility recently opened, everything is in pristine condition. In terms of superlative alternatives, the only option I found is Mather [of Evanston], which has few locations and, like a timeshare, can require over a million dollars upfront (literally over 1 million USD to buy in). That being said, Clarendale is great. There are a few corner apartments remaining as of April 2017, so if your loved one is seeking something posh with views of two separate directions, I would highly recommend grabbing one of these units before they are occupied.

Once I learned this I choose 3 and met with each company, interviewed caregivers and we made our decision. They have been in business for over 25 years, they are licensed with the State and we have a nurse supervisor to count on if and when we need additional help or support. We chose LifeStyle Options because, they were professional on the phone, they sent out a nurse to assess my father, (free of charge) and developed a plan that both my parents could agree to. That isn't always easy. I told her the reason for my call that I was looking for food preparation and she said is that all? That took me back because every other place I called immediately began to tell me about what they offered. She told me to call Meals on Wheels. She then blurted out 4 hour minimum. Geez we never even had a discussion about anything. She then told me that she had no teams in his area. Before I hung up I wanted her to know how unpleasant she was. I wanted her to know just how opposite she was in comparison to the Journey Care employees. Customer care is very important no matter what company you work for but people are not calling caregiver services for their sick and elderly family members for a joyous reason.

Due to the global pandemic, our application and move-in process was complicated and delayed, so our family was very stressed. I cannot say enough positive words about Starr and Vicki. They communicated with me regularly throughout the process to ease my stress and offer comfort. Even now, a few months after Dad's move-in, they still email or text me just to say hello and see how my Dad and the rest of the family is doing. These two women are kind and compassionate, and they truly helped our family through a very difficult time! There were times when I felt discouraged, so I would call Starr because I knew that her positive encouragement would make me feel better. She even called Dad to encourage him when I was worried that he was getting disconsolate. Now Dad is settled in at Victory Centre and he is very happy! He tells me that everyone is so kind and helpful. He says that the food is very good and he is happy with his apartment. He told me that it is perfect for him because he has privacy and independence in his own space, but he feels safe with the regular check-ins. He put it this way: "the staff makes themselves quietly known throughout the day." The staff is kind and they treat the residents with respect. I have been able to relax knowing that his medications are administered on time every day and he is being well cared for. The staff communicated with me regularly about my dad, and I have had wonderful conversations with Lora and others. One last note, we really appreciate that Victory Centre is taking the global pandemic seriously. They are taking every necessary precaution to keep their residents, caregivers, and staff safe! In comparing numbers of cases at local facilities, it is obvious that Victory Centre is taking the right precautions. I miss my Dad, and I wish that I could go and hang out with him in his apartment, but I know that he is in excellent hands! The warmth, concern, heart, and genuine care they feel is palpable throughout. As a result, she and her friends are comfortable, engaged, well-fed, observed by such loving, caring, dedicated nurses and sweet aides, and I have such relief knowing that she is living a life with purpose and activity, and constantly tells me how much she loves it there, and raves about the staff and the residents. Actually, a client of mine told me how much his Mom loved it there years ago, and I thought of that when I first brought her to visit. Best decision ever!! She was very scared, hesitant, but they turned her around gently but quickly and she is back to her fun self again, and it is just wonderful. There are no words for the peace having her there gives me. It's a blessed Victory! When I asked one of her now great friends about his experience living there her first week as a resident he enthusiastically said "best group of people I ever met" - so true. Smiles are all over both staff and residents and I love just being around them, but my Mom is so busy now, I have a hard time finding her when I visit - I love it!!
