    a sign for italian pizza

Owner from Venice, Italy, lost his restaurant in SF to COVID. Worth supporting, especially in these times.

These are the two items that I could eat maybe every day for the rest of my life. A pizza or a burrito can be stuffed with anything you like, any ingredient that you enjoy-it works. With the exception of peanut butter and bananas? This place seems to be open every single day. Seven days a week NOON till 9 PM, even on holidays like today, July 4 ! The joint is packed, the Giants baseball game is flashing on the screens, the beer is flowing, and the pizza is flying out the oven! The service is always exceptional. The food is sensational. They even offer half a beer or even a child's salad to accompany your pizza at a special price point. They leave no stone unturned. If you look up the word "accommodating" in the dictionary, I can bet there's a picture of Creekside Pizza and Taproom. -------------- Our meal: KID'S SALAD: Small toss salad with choice of house vinegarette or Ranch on the side/$6.00 PIZZA: NOVEMBER RAIN | $27 esto sauce, mozzarella cheese, and our mushroom medley-a blend of pan sautéed mushrooms; contains butter BEER: 8 ounce Ghost Town IPA/$6.00 ----------------------------- There are plenty of activities in downtown San Anselmo depending on the season. The tomato and basil pizza was burnt so badly that it was inedible. It was beyond horrible. Yet, it was boxed and sealed and we were charged for it. The meat one was charred on one side and raw on the other. It wasn't edible. The wedge salad was whole and mostly iceberg lettuce with some tomato and one tub of ranch dressing. The house salad had onions, which we specifically asked be omitted when we ordered. The dressing was supposed to be on the side, but had spilled out. Things they couldn't control but didn't help: cars were parked in the loading area. There was no other parking and we had to park three blocks away and walk there and back. Since there's no way to check the order there, by the time I walked with the food knowing that house guests were waiting, and my husband was very ill, I just drove home. I could have walked back, waited another hour and hoped for less horrible food?

Excellent. This IS pizza…read more Small menu, HUGE flavor! Stumbled onto this spot while surfing GOOGLE Maps and some "teaser" came up and I clicked on it. A few words in and a glance at some pics, I was sold. Here's where my next pizza is coming from. Shot out a quick text to my buddy in SF and eagerly awaited 5:00 PM opening time. I love pizza. It's kind of the perfect food for me. I could eat it every day. I'm somewhat of a pizza stalker, (arrest me) and this is as good as it gets. We shared a MARGHERITA pizza. Tomato sauce, mozzarella, basil. My buddy had a beautiful large portion HOUSE CAESAR. Little gems, anchovy, lemon, breadcrumbs, parmigiano, reggiano. A delicious craft cocktail for me: NONNO'S CARDIGAN- bourbon, meletti, black walnut, orange zest. The rotating hazy beer for my buddy.... Dig it baby, the only thing missing was a live jazz trio. I was so pleased that I returned a couple hours later with my wife and we had a delicious mushroom pizza.. Great "speakeasy vibe" with expert, classy interior design/decorating work. Truly a jewel in downtown San Rafael which definitely needs something to sparkle. And, it is located above top-notch restaurant, Vin Antico on fourth Street. Now you have two reasons to visit downtown. If a picture is worth 1000 words, here is a mouthful. Food for thought, have a peek. "He that keeps not crust nor crum Weary of all, shall want some." (I stole that from "Willy the Shake", you know-neither a borrower nor a lender be.)

Finally Tried Oliver's Pizza -- Worth the Wait (Literally)…read more I finally checked out Oliver's Pizza in San Rafael, and it did not disappoint. Know Before You Go There are no reservations, no phone number, and no call-in orders. If you want pizza, you'll need to show up and order in person. It's a little old school--and honestly a bit inconvenient--but once you're there, it works. Also, Oliver's operates out of Vin restaurant downstairs, so your final bill comes from Vin, not Oliver's. The Wait We went on a Thursday around 7:30pm and waited about 30 minutes. Not bad. They've set up a comfortable waiting area with couches and chairs, and you can order drinks from the restaurant while you wait, which helps. The Space The dining room is small and cozy, with a few seats at the bar. It feels intimate, not crowded. The Food The margherita pizza was excellent--thin crust with the right balance of crisp and chew, and a great ratio of tomato sauce to mozzarella. The Caesar salad, on the other hand, was a bit heavy. Slightly overdressed and on the salty side. I'd recommend asking for it lightly dressed. Overall Despite a few quirks in how they operate, this place delivers where it counts--the pizza. Definitely worth trying, and it feels like one of those spots that will only get better as they fine-tune things. A cozy addition to downtown San Rafael.

Stefano's is clearly a local favorite, given you often see their boxes at school events, camp…read morelunches, and neighborhood gatherings all the time. So I wanted to like it more than I actually do. Here's my main issue: the sauce situation. There's barely any on the pizza by default, and if you want what I'd consider a normal amount of sauce, they charge extra for it. That feels a bit like charging extra for a burger to actually have seasoning. The cheese is fine, the crust is fine, the toppings are fine. Everything is solidly in "okay" territory. Nothing offensive, but nothing that makes me think "I need to order from here" either. Skip the wings. They taste like they've been reheated from frozen, often arrive soggy, and have this thick breading that slides right off. Worse, they're frequently overcooked to the point where the bones actually splinter inside the meat, which is both unappetizing and kind of concerning. Just not worth ordering. The staff is genuinely friendly, which counts for something. There's a private parking lot, so no circling the block looking for a spot. And the coupons they mail out regularly do bring the price down to a reasonable level compared to other chain pizza places in the area. I wouldn't go out of my way to order from Stefano's, but I seem to be in the minority here. Plenty of people clearly love it. There's a reason it's become the default pizza for so many local schools and camps. Kids especially seem to be fans, and if you're feeding a crowd on a budget with their coupons, it gets the job done. It's a perfectly serviceable neighborhood pizza place that works well for many people, just not my first choice. If you're curious, maybe start with just a pizza (extra sauce, trust me) and form your own opinion.

Disappointing Experience at Terra Linda Branch…read more I ordered a Hawaiian pizza with the XL $30 off promotion, but it turned out to be an absolute disappointment. There were barely any toppings or meat on it at all. If you're going to discount your food but slash the quality this drastically, you should just warn customers beforehand that the promotion only gets them crust and 20% of the actual toppings. I thought the discount was a genuine deal, but it was just a terrible experience. Very disappointing
