Service seems to not be consistent here from my own personal experience and reading other yelp reviews. I'm actually pretty disappointed regarding that because the first time I came here, the food was amazing and our server was great. I came to take a friend here for breakfast and I'm actually sort of embarrassed I did. Her french toast was burnt. I had the breakfast biscuit again and it was overcooked (the biscuit was extremely hard to bite/chew). Homefries were only ok this time...had a bit of burnt pieces to it as well. Service was also mediocre this time (our server barely checked up on us). I don't know how they can serve food that inconsistent, but it definitely made me more wary to come here. Amphora is a reliable and predictable restaurant. They have excellent Greek offerings, and offer and amazing assortment of breakfast options. The service is always attentive and the coffee is refilled without delay. My one criticism of Amphora is their menu. It is too big and too overwhelming. When I see a menu of this size, I am usually concerned about the restaurants ability to focus on excellent delivery of each item. Honestly, I stick to the tried and true at Amphora. Moussaka, gyro platters and Greek salad are always a hit. For breakfast, you wont find better pancakes in Herndon and the Mexican scramble is a family favorite. The Amphora in Vienna was always one of our favorite late night stops, and the Amphora Diner in Herndon is an excellent addition to the family. They are still the local favorite for baked goods and you really can't go wrong stopping here for a solid meal. read more

My family and I attempted several times to dine here only to be treated horribly and ignored. We watched several white families arrive after us who were waited on. We still were waiting to place our drink orders. The waiter finally arrived, he was the same person who seated us.. He slammed two water glasses down, then looked at us and said "oh, I didn't realize there we're three people." We left. Another time we waited for over an hour for our food. Went to the Herndon location. My breakfast was good but pricey (hubby's corned beef hash tasted like it had tomato sauce in it - not good). I got a brownie to go, took a bite on the way home and it almost broke my tooth it was so stale! Got home and nuked for a few seconds - same! That's VERY disappointing. When you have your mouth ready for a yummy sweet treat and it's the most gross thing ever. Don't get their desserts unless you eat it there so you can turn it back if it's bad. Stopped here on a rainy morning drive home from the airport. Quick and friendly service. We had meat lovers omelette and breakfast club sandwich. Both were excellent and my pet peeve of breakfast dining did not materialize here. The toast was LOADED with butter ! (I hate the places that put a small dab of butter in the center of the toast and 90% of the slice is dry). The food was of extremely poor quality. I ordered the turkey reuben thinking it a fairly healthy option. The turkey tasted old. It was an open faced sandwich which I was not expecting. The bread was stale and the poor quality bread and meat were smothered beneath a gloppy mess of cheese. French fries (which I did not order) were thrown on top of the sandwich and adhered to the cheese with no hope of removal without destroying the entire plate. The cup of Thousand Island dressing sat atop it all. My husband had the Elden sandwich and found it inedible because of the amount of grease on the bread from it being grilled. The "chips" can be used as lethal weapons they are that hard. (This is always the case.) Service was outrageously bad with TWO parties of two including ourselves in the restaurant. It was dinner time (6 p.m.) and staff hung around as a group around the bakery case chatting and playing on their phones. It took forever to get our order taken and then our waiter strolled to the far opposite end of the deserted restaurant to play on his phone. We were ignored once the food was delivered. We had to flag down the server to get our check. Maybe the staff has all the time in the world as they have no customers but we needed to get back to our office for the evening. The one star is for having Pepsi products which is unusual these days. Beyond overpriced for the "quality" (not) of food and service. We had been by a few weeks ago and the story was pretty much identical to tonight. We thought we would give it another try. More fools we. NEVER again! Amphora Diner will always hold a place in my heart. Used to be a usual spot when I lived in Nova. I remember having the French Toast Deluxe for the first time. It's still my go-to here and still fantastic. Their French toast is so great because of their homemade brioche toast baked at their own bakery and their signature cinnamon egg batter. They've perfected it! The deluxe option gives you plenty of food, with a choice of Virginia ham, bacon, or sausage, and two eggs any style. I enjoy the Lavazza coffee they serve. Service has always been friendly and attentive. Evelyn was super during our last visit. Thank you! Now that I no longer live in the area, it's become a tradition to go to Amphora straight from the airport and delight in wonderful breakfast food and warm hospitality. I've visited this diner about six times. They have a huge parking lot with plenty of places to park the menu been reduced because of COVID-19. On this visit I ordered the seared salmon with spinach and steamed vegetables. The manager described the spinach in a way that was not accurate I was very disappointed when it came out buried in this white sauce which made it unbearable. I only had one small bite and threw the rest out. The fresh vegetables and salmon were actually very good. I ordered several cookies from the desert bar in the front reception area. I really like their desserts there are very good servings are big. The booth seating is very uncomfortable because the bench seats are so low and the table tops are so high . The restaurant is very clean and neat. There is the television located over the bar it is an annoying annoying volume level on some frivolous cartoon station making my meal even worse. After we were seated, it seemed like there were some issues with our server and the woman who sat us. We both ordered western omelets, which were just okay and nothing particularly special. While the omelets were piping hot, the potatoes were lukewarm at best - somewhat surprising since there were only two other people in the diner at the time, meaning that the kitchen had more than enough time to make sure the entire breakfast was hot. I had a table at the Herndon Community Craft Fair the 1st sunday in December for the last 4 years. Hubby has tried several places after the food offered by jimmy johns is poor at best. THIS year he discovered Amphora. He got their hamburger. It was VERY good, rich, juicy tomatoes were ripe not those nasty, mealy white centered ones at most places. Mushrooms were spot on! There are so many things to choose from that it's overwhelming and took my family a good 15 minutes to decide what we wanted. (I do appreciate that they serve breakfast all day!) This place is so hit or miss. My first time here was pretty good: we were part of a big group for breakfast, but the server was attentive and the food was pretty good and affordable. My second time here was for a business lunch. The server was not as attentive, and the food was kinda bland. I got a shrimp pasta dish, and i feel like it could easily have been from a Bertolli's frozen dinner bag. Actually, Bertolli's is better. At least it comes with actual pasta! There were mushrooms on my dish (which I hate), even though it didn't say in the description that there were mushrooms. Today is my third time here and I'm really disappointed. Our server, Mary, didn't check on us once after she gave us our food. She seemed to spend a lot of her time just talking to her friends. Our drinks were empty for over half of our dining experience. My biscuits were really hard (wasn't like that my first time), and the bacon was over cooked and had a weird, "old" taste to it. I also originally ordered two breakfast meals (I was really hungry!): Biscuits with gravy (comes with home fries) and a two eggs with bacon meal (comes with home fries and toast). She suggested that I modify my meal to just get biscuits with gravy and then just add on eggs and bacon. Not too big a deal, but I found it unnecessary. She was kinda pushy about getting me to change my order to a smaller one. Was she trying to tell me I was fat and didn't need the carbs?? I also noticed that there is a "meals tax tax" (not just meals tax. Meals tax tax) added on to your bill. It's not much, only $0.65 on a subtotal of $25.84. But I'm still wondering what it is and why they charge us for it? There is a separate VA tax. Did they just separate something that is usually grouped together (in terms of tax at Virginia dining establishments)? I never thought I would dislike bacon, or that there was a wrong way to cook bacon or make it taste bad, but today's bacon was just gross. There are also some really obnoxiously loud groups here sometimes--families with screaming kids and the like. But then sometimes, it's nice and quiet and actually kinda empty. I was super hungry and of course being that it's 2 AM on a Thursday night, everything was closed except for Amphora Diner, which is open 24-hours and thank goodness for that!! I showed up and asked for a table for one and was seated right away. My waiter Eugeniu came by to greet me and asked if I wanted anything to drink. Being that I'm at a diner I automatically ask for a vanilla shake. I don't know why I always associate diners with shakes. He came back a few minutes later with my shake and I took a sip from it, only to find that it was super watered down and watery. Like it had been sitting out for a while so I told him about it and he went to ask them to make me a new one. The second one was delivered personally by the chef, I believe. And it was definitely better and I actually finished it after my meal. I ordered the pastichio with a side of steamed mixed veggies. It also came with a house salad, but I asked to upgrade it to a Greek salad for $0.99 more. For a person who detests onions and tomatoes, a Greek salad is definitely not the way to go. I sat there picking through the whole thing only to be left with a few cucumber slices, a few olives, some romaine lettuce and a load of ricotta cheese. The dressing was good even though there wasn't much left to eat of the salad. Smart girl!! Lol The pastichio is somewhat similar to a lasagna with ground beef, but it tastes more buttery and less cheesy. I love cheese and butter so for me that was the perfect choice. I couldn't finish it because it was so rich and filling. Although I did finish all of my steamed veggies, which consisted of asparagus, zucchinis, squash, bell peppers and carrots! Got my veggie quota for the day! I needed it too after that vanilla shake. Lol When Eugeniu brought me the bill, he told me the vanilla shake was on the house. How sweet of him!!
