This review is long overdue. Today I sampled a cupcake at a well known bakery on Fairfax in Los Angeles. Boy was I disappointed! The reason being is because I have sampled most of Amy's bakery items because she attends my church and often brings samples for us to try. She usually likes for me to sample her lemon flavored baked goods, because I LOVE lemon. Anyhow, I have tasted Amy's Dulce de Leche Butter cookies (my fav!), nanaimo bars, toffee, whoopie pies, chocolate chip cookies, snickerdoodles, M&M cookies and the list goes on. Unlike the cupcake from the bakery that I went to today, Amy's cupcakes are moist and delicious! She uses the best ingredients, real butter for example. Also, she prays that God will bless her baking and that her customers will be happy with the outcome. As a result, I feel joy just eating her delicious treats. My mouth is watering just thinking about them. She also made the cake in the photo below for my birthday and the frosting is amazing because she uses real butter to make a fabulous butter cream frosting, which I love. When Amy told me she was a baker, I went straight to her website! It's so charming with the colors and pictures! I immediately was drawn to the rum pecan pie and pumpkin whoopie pies. I placed my order to bring for a holiday dinner party and boy did the compliments roll in! I really wished Amy was there to hear the praise because it was so delicious! The pecan pie was perfection. I find that sometimes pecan pies can run too sweet but this was just right. It was so good we each went for a second helping! So in love with her baking. When i first tried her lemon bundt cake it reminded me of my grandmothers baking. My grandmother was from that old southern style baker from scratch. I grew up with a taste for the good stuff and founded it hard to recreate that taste from my youth. But along comes Amy and the moment I took a bite of her cake. I wanted to cry because it took me back to the memories of my grandmother baking. Every time I eat what she bakes I am instantly happy and taken back to my childhood. Her food feeds me and my soul. Omg they have the best alfajores of my life! Way better than the ones at Portos, which are good but nowhere near this level. These are very soft buttery cookies filled with dulce de leche. They are somehow moist but shortbready and have the best tasting dulce de leche. I cannot deal. I'm trying to think of a way to get them more often. My husband and I were looking for a cake for our elopement when the stars aligned and we came across the reviews for Amy's Cottage Bakery. Throughout our wedding planning I've struggled with indecisiveness, but when we read through her menu I knew her coconut cake was "the one". It was so easy to place an order with Amy, and she went above and beyond by helping us figure out the logistics of transporting the cake to our elopement destination (at the top of the Mt Baldy ski lifts). She was so kind! We wound up picking up our cake the day before our elopement and refrigerated it overnight in a cake carrier Amy suggested. The day of, when we finally got to try our cake in the evening, it was still perfectly fresh, gorgeous, and thankfully undisturbed by its treacherous journey up the ski lifts. This is all a lead up to say, that coconut cake was truly the most amazing cake my husband and I have ever tried. Seriously. I'm ranking it #1. The flavor, texture, everything about that cake was perfection, and not to mention it was perfectly beautiful for our elopement photos (wish I had them to share today!).
