I came here because my mom recommended it. But I think she honestly struck luck (or I struck out of luck). I went in for a full set with powder and a pedi. I had the same person perform both. The pedicure took maybe 10 minutes. Which means nothing happened other than getting my feet wet and filling my nails. Then my nails which were a true disaster. She wild dip my finger in the powder 3-4 times without letting the powder beneath set. The shape was horrible - every nail had its own shape. And she didn't clean my nail bed. I give it two stars because overall it was affordable and they were really nice at the shop. But my nails were terrible. I'm just a week they were falling off and needed a touch up. This salon has gone downhill; I called to make an appt but when I got there I was made to wait about a half hour past my appt time. When I finally sat down to get my nails done, I asked the nail tech Nina not to use the drill to remove the old powder on my nails; I asked her to soak my nails instead. She got annoyed that I wouldn't let her use the drill on my nails so she got up walked away and decided to take a 15 - 20 minute break. No one came over to me to let me know why I was left sitting there for about 20 minutes. When I looked to see where she was, I observed her eating an apple in the back of the salon. At that point, I got up and walked out. No one apologized to me; Very unprofessional. Also, most of the techs do not speak or understand English so it's very difficult to communicate with them. I've been coming here for years and it's not what it used to be. There's a very high turnover of nail techs and a fresh face almost every month to replace the one that just left. Sometimes I question if the new girls are licensed/certified cause sometimes they do some questionable things as far as the order of manicures go. But then again, I'm specific of how my hands look so maybe I'm just being critical. The salon is very spacious and clean. They put fresh liners and clean the tub between each pedicure which personally gives me peace of mind that I won't catch someone's nasty foot fungus. The spa pedicures are pretty competitive as far as cost. $25 for an "aqua flower" spa pedicure which includes a 10 minute foot/leg massage. Gel nails are kind of expensive and so are the powder gel nails and not all the girls can those services so you might have to wait for another girl to do your manicure. And if you're someone that gets acrylic nails, only the owner, Amy, does them so you probably will need an appointment or there might be a wait time. And, also, wouldn't recommend getting your eyebrows waxed here unless you like them looking like angel hair pasta - way too thin for my liking, but, to each their own. read more

I am a Queens girl who is very loyal to her nail salon, but because of a wedding in Long Island, and how the timing worked out, I desperately needed a nail salon open at 9:30 AM. This is apparently super rare but I found Amy's and walked in to an almost empty, and large, salon! The salon is split into two giant rooms, one for pedicures and one for manicures, there are maybe 8 pedi stations, and they don't feel close at all. Love the space. The massage chairs are also quite nice! I got a regular pedi with callous remover. The callous remover was not impressive. They used the cream and scraper, but it wasn't thorough at all and my feet looked exactly the same. The pedicure job was also quite lazy. My technician barely cleaned up, filed, anything on my toes. I get regular pedicures, so it's not like I have much to remove, but at least put some effort in. The manicure was the same. Not much effort put in, the shaping was done very lazily, and for some reason their gel polish is not quite the same as other salons. It was super thin and my nails feel so weak even after the multiple coats. I get gel on my hands because of the thickness and to keep my length. My nail also chipped a week after they were done. I know that I am a nail snob, but I am from queens...land of amazing manicures! It is nearly impossible to find a place on LI that does half as good of a job. I am always polite, but I just have very little patience for bad manicures when you are doing this all day long! Why is it so hard to do well? I will start by saying that she did a great job on my pedicure. I get very painful ingrown toenails and she did get those out, so I'm thankful as I was in agony! My manicure on the other hand did not come out good at all. I showed them my nails when I walked in so that they could see how perfect they looked even after 2 weeks. She barely looked at them and said no problem. As you can see from the pictures, they look bumpy, uneven and she didn't brush off the powder in between dipping so you can literally see all the grain. In other words, it doesn't look smooth at all. I showed her and she tried to rebuff, but ultimately it just didn't come out great. I wonder if part of the problem is that the lighting in there is awful! Get individual table lamps if you can't see!!! It's so dark I don't know how anyone sees what they are doing! The prices there are the same price I pay at a really good place, so for $55 for a mani/pedi, I expect the same quality of service. If I need a regular quick mani, I will probably go back. I used to come here all the time for manicures and pedicures. They aren't the best pedicures that I've had but they are better than others and the prices were decent. So since I recently moved back to Long Island and I was I need of a manicure on a Sunday I called a few places and they were open so I came back. They were able to take me at 4:30 PM and when I got there I didn't have to wait! I was originally going to a regular manicure but then I decided to try gel again even though it makes my nails so thin. They have two different kinds of gel polish; UV Gel or Powder Gel (which isn't supposed to damage the nail bed). For a little bit more money I went with the gel powder and it is pretty cool how they do it. Overall, there gel manicure is not mush of a relaxing manicure. It is more about just getting the gel on your nails and less about the relaxing, moisturizing part which is a little disappointment. The girl did not moisturize and rub my hands at all. Also, when I tried to ask the girl doing my nails any questions she could not answer one question. She had to ask the man at the desk but he hardly speaks any english either so she finally got Amy and she semi- answered the question. Overall, the color is pretty but it doesn't last two weeks like they said. I am at 10 days right now and my nails are starting to come off at the top so I will need to get them done sooner. Also, the staff needs to know a little more english. I'm not saying they need to be able to hold a full conversation but they should be able to answer questions about the different services they offer. Took time to make sure they came out even and definitely stepped out of her comfort zone; even with her boss hovering over us asking a million questions in their native tongue. Went for a mani and pedi. It was just ok. Massage for pedi was meh at best. Overcharged me for something I didn't ask for and therefore will not be going back. When I treat myself to a $55. Pedicure I would expect that includes callous remover. To be charged an additional $8 when no one even asked me is not good business. Place also had a bunch of kids running around which did not make for a relaxing experience. Manicure has already chipped after two days and wasn't done that well to begin with. I came here expecting good service but it was terrible! The lady that did my nails was so rude! And so aggressive. All my fingers were red and bleeding and were swollen for a week and i repeatedly told her to be gentle! My friend recommended this place to me and she was a loyal customer, but her last experience was so bad that she refuses to go there anymore. Her nails turned out very poor, they were unable to provide the simple design she requested, and attempted to charge her for the design she had to ask to be removed from her nails. I gave this place two tries and I shouldn't have. They don't sanitize the nail tools between customers, only wash it, and that's not enough to kill most bacteria. I usually get gel nail polish and this is the only place where they had me dip my fingers into a bowl of nail polish remover for about 5 minutes to get the old one off. All of the other places use foil and cotton ball dipped in it so that the skin doesn't get damaged. Skin/cuticles even more dry then before each visit.. read more

I've never had this bad of an experience at a nail salon. The nail lady peeled off my gel nail polish with her nails. She removed my cuticles by using her nails and scraping it off. I've going to Amy's since it opened and always loved it. In the last year it has not been the same. My last visit the pedicure girl just massaged my ankles. My feet are clean, I shower and soak them before going so it's not that. Plus there 5 minute massage is about 3 minutes. Amy herself did my nails which cost me more than ever before i also got waxed by her she used cold wax that didn't even spread and used tape that had old wax on it and it didn't stick at all or take any hair off. When I said something her English seemed to disappear. I returned the next day to have it redone again Any did it and did the exact same thing except this time she answered her phone and had a full conversation and was still on the phone when I walked out. I was going to Amys for a few months before one of her nail techs dug to far with the cuticle nipper and punctured the side of my big toe. Blood was everywhere. Tech put stypic liquid on it and continued on. Long and behold the tools must of not been cleaned properly as the cut was infected and I ended up with a huge pocket of pus on the side of my nail. I figured ok mistakes happen so I went back. ( stupid me ) .. After about 3 more pedicures after that initial issue another tech did the SAME thing to the SAME toenail. Not only did I get a bacteria infection but she didnt cut and file my toenail properly thus causing an ingrown toenail. About 45 min after my pedicure my toe itched like crazy. I thought nothing of it until it didnt stop for days on end. Almost a week later it blew up swollen and red. Ended up at the podiatrist and dr had to dig to get the ingrown toenail out and I left with 2 prescriptions. 1 oral antibiotic for the bacteria infection as well as a topical cream for the infection as well. I let Amy know BOTH times about what her techs did to me and she said oh I sorry !!! WTF ? Im like you're sorry ? How about you make sure your techs know what the hell they are doing. The basins werent disinfected properly because had they been, I wouldnt of caught a bacteria infection. I NEVER had a bacteria infection or Ingrown toenail in my LIFE until I went to AMYS. I get pedi's every 2 weeks faithfully for the past 20 yrs of my life. I will NEVER go there again. I dont recommend them. I used to boast about the salon and how great they are, but after 2 trips to a podiatrist, I'm done with this salon. I thought wow its so nice inside, its so packed, it must be a great place clean and sanitary. NOPE ! The techs are nice, Amy is nice , Her husband is nice and welcoming as well. However until they get their techs properly trained and licensed and SANITIZE the pedicure tubs, I will go elsewhere.I really enjoyed going there and even recommended my family to her salon, but this is just to much. The slap in the face was AMY saying she is sorry and that is all! I expected her to at least look into what I was saying, or address it with the 2 different nail techs ( who still work there ) but NOTHING. I do not recommend this salon anymore to anyone. I am a NYS licensed nail tech myself and I know NYS regulations and procedures when coming to a salon environment. This salon doesnt follow code at all. Really bad experience. Would never go back. Parking sucks. People are rude. They have people walking around soliciting, trying to sell you products. The girl who worked on me didn't speak English so anything I said she just smiled and laughed. She cut my nails so poorly that I am in pain and she only used one coat of polish which I can't even chalk it up to them being cheap because I brought my own bottle. On top of that I gave a 30% tip which I am not saying is an amazing tip (although a lot more than deserved), but she didn't even say thank you and looked pissed that that's all she got. $45 in the toilet.
