Update: this place is STILL awesome. If you are seeing bad reviews about long wait times, yes its true. But understand, there is ONE guy making every single roll, hand-roll, nigiri in that place. Parking: Small lot, easy for the most part STILL MY TOP SUSHI SPOT EVERRRRR!!!! I AM NOT EXAGGERATING. It doesn't have the vibe of Nobu but it makes up in flavor and service. I love how intimate the setting is. I always get the carpaccios; you cannot go wrong with any of them unless you're allergic. I am not a salmon person but it was so good. It's probably one of the few ways I am willing to eat it now. Yesterday I had the tuna, ono, sea bass, yellowtail, and salmon. I cannot recommend enough. It's zesty and savory. We had high hopes for this place after seeing so many great reviews, especially since we've been trying to find a good sushi spot in the area. We ordered three sushi rolls and a bento for pickup and were quoted a 45-minute wait time. I arrived on time but ended up waiting an additional 30 minutes for our order. Unfortunately, the experience didn't align with what we were expecting based on the reviews. The flavors of the dishes we ordered didn't stand out or reflect the consistently positive feedback we had read. Had a lovely time here last night with a friend. I was very surprised to learn this place has been here for 10 years and yet I have never been, although I live close. The quality of the fish is very good, and many sushi dishes come with sauces already added that are bright and complex in flavor. Be aware, dishes don't come out quickly, and are being instead carefully put together by the one chef. We preferred this though as there was more of the expectation to sit back and relax, to savor the food instead The waitress was extremely helpful in making recommendations and refilling our drinks constantly. She seemed very concerned in making sure we were having a good time and enjoying all the dishes. The interior of this place is so cute as well. It has a very warm and cozy vibe. We went around 6pm and there was no wait, just a few other tables with what seemed to be regulars, who offered us a shot of sake haha ! **Rating with a small child** My 4 year old and I came here on a weekday evening and were pleased how empty it was. We go to many sushi places together and he always orders the same things - tamago sushi, karage chicken, edamame - so I was hoping for a quick in/out dining experience. The ambiance was cozy - my kid likes to sit at the sushi counter and he loved the money tree. My son ordered lemonade, but when it came out, he said it tasted weird. I tried it, and it definitely came watered down / not good, so we returned it and got sprite instead. Oh well. The edamame came out fast, but the rest of our order took a while, despite there only being about 3 other tables. The chicken was... bland... it wasn't the usual karage that we are so used to, this was just crispy bland chicken. It came with a sauce which helped, but karage normally doesn't need to be dipped in sauce. My scallop dynamite roll was okay. It wasn't anything to rave about and it was to be expected. A little expensive for what it was, but I think that's market price. We were starting to feel quite full when my kid said "where's my tamago?" You're right - where is that tamago?! I asked the server and he checked the back, and said it was coming. But it still took another 15mins to finally get our order. We were so full, he could only eat one piece, but he said it was good. We boxed up the rest of our food and called it a night. Our waitress was kind and gave my son complimentary ice cream which was a nice gesture. The food was delicious and unique. Very creative way of how 4 different fishes were combined in the Four Seasons roll with a nice spicy sauce that kicks in at the end. I got the chicken katsu combo and the salad dressing was mixed with black sesame sauce. My favorite was the crispy rice tuna appetizer. Crispy, not over burnt and delicious. I have been here twice and it is now my favorite sushi spot in my area. It is a tiny restaurant with a few tables and a sushi counter. It is a special spot as many regulars go there. The selection of sushi rolls is plentiful. My husband who doesn't eat sushi loved their chicken teriyaki. He mentioned that the chicken breast was fresh and not overly cooked. He enjoyed it and is looking forward to trying the Udon soup choices they have. I would recommend the edamame with garlic, which is very good. There is only one server but it is worth the wait. I haven't gone when it was super busy like others I have. Just remember there are not many tables and it is a very small place. However, I think it is worth the wait. The quality of the food (particularly the fish) was very fresh and well prepared! The customer service was also extremely friendly and welcoming which added a lot to the overall experience. I've lived about three blocks from Anaba Sushi for over 12 years--and I ate here for the first time last night. I got here at about 7 PM and there was only one seat open at the sushi bar. This place isn't very big and it gets packed rather quickly. So far, I can only speak for the Anaba Sashimi Combo, which--along with a cup of hot green tea--is the only thing I ordered on my visit. The sashimi combo includes miso soup, salad, and several pieces of salmon, tuna, and yellowtail (with ginger and wasabi). This sashimi combo was about $32. Note that most of the bad reviews for Anaba are because of the long wait times, limited seating, but not the quality of food (which is good). The quality of food here is pretty good. Of course, I will always compare all Japanese restaurants to Sushi Gen, in Los Angeles, which I frequent somewhat often. But, when I'm unwilling to drive all the way to Downtown Los Angeles, Anaba Sushi is a close enough alternative, with a fair price point, only about three blocks from where I live. read more

We had an amazing experience from start to finish at Anaba sushi! This restaurant has a really nice ambience, helpful friendly staff, fast service and the freshest most delicious sushi I've had in a long time! The waitress suggested the tiger stripe sushi so my husband tried that and said it was incredible and melts in your mouth like butter. I had the spicy tuna crispy rice and it was amazing. We shared a Malibu roll and it was so flavorful we didn't dare change the flavor profile with soy sauce. It was just amazing as is! Incredible value for incredible fresh sushi. Anaba perfectly lives up to its name! It truly is a hidden gem. Ritchie takes pride in the quality of the fish he serves. Always fresh and generous portions. The restaurant is always filled with regulars, if you're new I'd suggest arriving early. Some of the negative reviews on complain about wait time. But I assure you that if your order takes a bit longer than you expect, it is because everything is prepared to order. Nothing is made in advance. For non-traditional items I would recommend: Kanapachi (Amber Jack) Hamapeño (Yellowtail with a yuzu/serrano sauce) I typically only order Nigiri, but the specialty rolls that I have tried over the years have been fantastic. In closing... I am of two minds about this place. I both want to see Anaba to continue to thrive. But I also don't want it to get so popular that I can't get a seat! read more

This place has been in business for about 7 years. Little hole in the wall type of spot. We ordered omakase and let me tell you... For the first time ever anywhere, it was too much. Normal places only give you like a piece or a bite at a time and that's considered a course. This was somewhere between double to triple traditional places. The chef is definitely generous with his portions but there's almost a refined touch missing. There's a beauty to thinner slices of fish and smaller portions. Makes things more appetizing. Quality is almost there and quantity is overload. If the dishes were served one piece at a time like traditional places you'd definitely get to try a lot more of his wonderful selection of fish. - albacore sashimi (in a delicious sesame oil type sauce) 5/5 - tuna sashimi (a spicy mix that any spicy longer would indulge in) 4/5 - suzuki sea bass (the texture and flavor of this fish is a must) 5/5 - hokkaido scallops (almost like it was just taken out of the ocean, so fresh that it was slightly sweet) 5/5 - fried aji bones (crispy goodness, like fish tempura chips. One of my favorite little locals, the sushi is so authentic! It is very small, only 5 tables and counter. However it is beautifully decorated and so clean. Don't come when you are starving the owner/sushi chef is the only chef for this place. Be prepared to wait for your sushi but you can enjoy some Sapporo, Asahi, or sake. A great place to eat and have long conversations while you wait and eat your sushi. The service is great, and many locals hang out here, too. You can also order to go, since most of the time it is pretty crowded. Plates are about 14.95, no regrets. read more

I thought this place was a hole in a wall. As you enter, you're greeted with a little culture on the wall. Three cozy tables, one good for 4, another good for 6, the other good for 8. I guess they can adjust according to the group size. Then they have the sushi bar with 10 stools. Clean washrooms. Now lets get to food, lol! We started with their miso and udon soups then refreshed our palates with their awesome brown rice tea. Followed with lemon flavoured tuna rolls and mango salmon rolls then spiced up with crunchy shrimp wasabi rolls. Their spider rolls were ok but the baked scallop rolls were delish. We also had the spicy shrimp jalapeno rolls which woked us up for more drinks, the deep fried breaded heads came separate. Both waitress and chef were so attentive.
