I hired Anacapa Plumbing for a residential plumbing project at my property, and unfortunately my experience was very disappointing in the areas of management, scheduling, communication, and billing. To start, the work was scheduled to begin on a Monday between 8:00 and 10:00 a.m. I already was not thrilled with such a large arrival window, but I accepted it. What was not acceptable was that no one showed up and no one called. I rearranged my morning and ended up being late to my own job for no reason. There were also repeated communication failures during the project. At one point, I was told the water would be shut off on a Monday, so I had my renters make plans to be away so they would not be inconvenienced by having no water. Monday came and went, and the water was never shut off. Apparently their plans had changed, but no one communicated that to us. When they finally did shut the water off, it was handled in a way that created a completely unnecessary burden. On one occasion, the guest house was without water all day and overnight. On a different day, the main house was also without water all day and overnight. In my opinion, this was avoidable. I had already run the main line to both houses. They only needed to run piping from those lines to the water heaters. That work should have been staged so everything else was prepped first, with the final tie-ins done once the glue had cured, keeping the water interruption to maybe an hour or two. Instead, two families were significantly inconvenienced, and the attitude I got was that this was standard and no big deal. Another issue was professionalism on site. One of the workers was loudly yelling and swearing in the crawlspace, including repeated profanity. This was not a vacant construction site. This is a home where people live. I was grateful my wife and kids were not around to hear it. After the plumbing work was completed, I finished enclosing the relocated washer and dryer area by framing, insulating, and drywalling the space. When I finally hooked up the machines and ran a load of laundry, the room flooded because water backed up and poured out of the in-wall washing machine drain. I called Anacapa Plumbing, and since this happened just a couple of days after they finished the job, I expected a prompt and professional response. I was told someone would come that afternoon. No one came. Then I was told they would send someone the next day. A plumber eventually came while I was at work, stayed about an hour, and left without any communication. Hours later, I still had no idea whether the problem had been fixed or whether it was safe to use the washing machine. I had to call and leave a message to find out. Later I was told it was okay to use, followed by a $270 bill for that visit. The billing was another major issue. The original estimate was around $15,000. The final bill came in at about $20,000, plus the additional $270. That is roughly a 25% increase with no meaningful communication, warning, or explanation during the job. In fairness, I did add a small amount to the scope by having them run about 25 feet of hot and cold PEX with two shutoff valves, but I do not believe that justifies an extra $5,000. For context, I am a General Contractor and have been for 18 years. I often try out subcontractors on my own properties before using them on residential client projects. Anacapa Plumbing was one of several companies recommended to me locally. Based on this experience, I would not use them again, and I would not recommend them to others. P.S. If you'd have a plumbing problem in SB, you know it can be difficult to find a good and responsive plumber. That was not our experience with Anacapa Plumbing when we needed to replace our two 15 year old "on-demand" water heaters. Anacapa was immediately responsive, pleasant to deal with, and quickly gave us an acceptable quote. Then, after ordering the units (which took a few days understandably) , they did a great job installing them in less than a day. We can't talk about pricing because we were so frustrated by other contractors not even returning our calls and by the one who ripped us off (Goodland Plumbing by demanding a $150 up front payment for a quote and then never getting back to us with a quote), in the end, we were not in a position to seek out competitive pricing - tired of cold showers. Now, everything is working well - Anacapa was very professional, with friendly informative plumbers, who did a great job and cleaned up after themselves. We definitely recommend them. read more

Writing my first Yelp review to share my experience with Anacapa Plumbing -- unfortunately, it's been very poor. I originally reached out for an inspection and quote, even sending detailed photos of the problem areas before scheduling. A week later, someone unexpectedly showed up at my door for the inspection. I never confirmed a time, but fortunately I was home and the technician was helpful, assuring me the office would follow up with next steps. That was three weeks ago. Despite multiple calls and repeated promises from reception that I'd hear back "later today," I've received no updates. Unfortunately, I found Anacapa plumbing to be overpriced, their understaffed workers were stressed and unstable, and the quality of their finishing work to be sub-standard. We had an old water heater replaced with a tankless and added a water softener at the same time. The process from when they started to when they finished was almost three weeks. Their plumbers constantly complained (to me!) about not enough guys being on the job, and one of the plumbers was consistently screaming at the plumbing in our basement (I hate f**king plumbing!) so that our teen daughter didn't want to be left alone in the house while he was working. I asked the plumber to stop, and he apologized (only to start again soon after), and I communicated what happened with the owner as well (on multiple days, he was losing his mind in our basement, swearing at the plumbing, at his co-workers for their work, at his boss for understaffing the job, etc.). In the end, there were many, many unprofessional outcomes, including: leaving the condenser unit unplugged when they left for the weekend so there was leaking, connecting the wrong pipe backwards to the water softener (they told me "no charge" for that fix...), and a very unsatisfactory finishing on the piping that comes out of the house (looks really DIY). I hate writing bad reviews, but this has been the single worst company and experience I've ever had with someone working on or in our home. read more

Our utility sink was completely backed up, with laundry and kitchen water, after a couple months of intermittent problems. Finally had to do something about it. Friday at 2pm we called, the owner checked with his crew and called back a few minutes later saying he could send someone over immediately. The technician was friendly and knowledgeable. He pumped the water out of the sink, opened a trap, snaked it all the way through the mainline and voila, problem solved. As others have said, not the cheapest, but they're fair and trustworthy. We've had them to our house a couple of times now. First time was to fix a leaking garage sink, which my husband wasn't able to fix. They installed some new hardware and new faucet and the problem was resolved. Second time was to install a new bathroom faucet, which they attempted, but the one ordered didn't fit exactly right. Who knew it was such a pain to order a bathroom faucet? On the same trip, they also reconnected a bathroom sink faucet handle that my husband had disconnected at least a year ago, because we couldn't get it to stop leaking water. Again, some new hardware in strategic places and it was fixed. Our fixtures are all over 20 years old, so I think we will be seeing more of Anacapa in the future as these old fixtures start failing. read more

I write books on plumbing, and plumbing codes. I am also an extreme value shopper. To save money and for best quality, I do most of my own plumbing work, or hire affordable plumbers who I carefully monitor and direct to achieve a good outcome at low cost. Recently there were two plumbing problems I was facing that were just so critical, complicated and nasty that I just wasn't up for tackling them; I could see the whole nightmare and was dreading it: trying with a cheap plumber, having them fail, having to get in the worst part of the crawlspace myself and solder these copper pipe joints crushed hard against 90 year old wood, with the water off to the whole property for several hours, possibly starting the house on fire while the water is shut off-- So I called Anacapa, explained what the problem was...and they just efficiently and professionally fixed the leak. That was that. They re-routed the line for easy access and used these solder-free press fittings I'd never heard of. It is a pleasure to see their well-laid out new copper gleaming there in the darkest, most impossible corner of the crawlspace. I also needed a steel gas line re-routed through a very tight area with a bunch of tricky bends. I told Anacapa where I wanted it moved from and to and how. The guy from Anacapa showed up with all the parts needed to do it my way, but said if it were up to him he'd do with with this new flexible line instead. Then he almost magically made it happen, using his flexible stuff. I was a bit taken aback at the high hourly, but all I had to do was write the checks and the problems were solved. I hire a lot of tradespeople and this is rarely the case; usually its write the checks AND deal with a bunch of issues. Good plumbing is not cheap, but honestly, I think Anacapa was the least costly solution, taking all factors into account. Plus I probably added two weeks to my life span by avoiding the stress of trying to solve these exceptionally tricky plumbing problems myself. read more

Had a very bad leak on one my pipes that was connected to my laundry room. I reached out to the first plumbing company that came up on google ads, and the Plummer quoted me $2k to fix a leaking pipe and that the price could be higher if they found additional issues. I told him I wanted to get another quote. I reached out to Anacapa plumbing who was 1) extremely responsive and 2) quickly identified that I had both a leaking pipe ($400 fix) and a leaking water heater ($1600 fix). They even moved schedules around to help me quickly fix this, and ended up saving me probably multiple thousands of dollars. Kudos to Torin and the anacapa plumbing crew! read more

Emergency situation on a Friday afternoon! We were very impressed with Anacapa Plumbing! We have a 1909 house with a broken shower arm from inside the wall of our rental apartment with a new tenant arriving. We called Anacapa Plumbing, as we've used them before and our plumber friend couldn't come and did not work on weekends. Sharin answered the call immediately and gave us hopeful possibilities. He had to stop part way through the removal, because he needed a special tool to cut the badly corroded old faucet off the sink. came back the next morning and finished in 1/2 an hour. Responsive, arrived on time, analyzed complexities of dual water tank system with recirculating hot water lines, communicated new code requirements, then ASKED ME how I wanted to proceed. After I gave authorization, bought the second tank, new copper, etc, within the hour, and repairs were efficiently completed same day. Then bill was emailed. It was 27% and 36% less than two other estimates I had obtained from highly recommended Santa Barbara companies that said two plumbers at $1000+ each would be required versus only one smart fast working trained plumber from Anacapa Plumbing. BTW: NEVER PAY FOR American Home Warranty Protection which is a scam. I paid over $4700 in monthly premiums, then was billed $100 for their chosen plumber who said work complicated, and left. Four months ago, Anacapa replaced our water softener. Last week we used another company to check a faucet issue and radiant heat. To our surprise, they found, in the process of checking the water softener, that the softener drain hose was kinked and that the brine tank resin tank tubing was not connected, meaning that for the last four months we did not have soft water, while we thought we did. I would not recommend using Anacapa plumbing. Our negative experience should speak for itself. read more

Had a leak at the meter. Nate came out and pumped water out of the cement meter container, identified the leak, responsibly got approval to turn off the main water valve coming from the HOA well, changed a bad rubber gasket, and put it back together with no more leak. Update: I received a response from the owner of the business. I received a refund for the cost of the service. Because the owner of the business did his part to make things right, I am updating my review. Service is sometimes good and sometimes very bad. Anacapa Plumbing has done a good job on a few things, but lately I think they have gotten worse. They charged over $200 to attempt to unclog a drain (they were not able to fix it). Another time they broke the sewer clean out when clearing the drain line. They had broken the pipe fitting and just hammered the plug in. The plug fell out, and sewage spilled into the crawl space. read more
