Catching up on my reviews so this was BC (before Covid). Decent price for decent food. Self service everything. Simple interior. Complimentary chai tea for dine in but was way too milky. Complimentary naan for yelp check in was made perfectly, not too much dough and not too thin, just right and tasted great. Samosa - great price, crispy without being too oily, insides were yummy, both sauces were great. Sadly, it wasn't that warm and was kind of small. It come with chickpea curry which tasted good with it. Chicken was super dry. They were big pieces, but TOO DRY. I would not order again. Chicken tiki masala was buttery, comes with a lot of chicken, would've been better warmer and with less chicken since chicken was dry. Lamb kabob - moist, flavorful, spices went well. I would rate this place 3.5/5 but rounded up since it's good for the price. read more

So, I was holding off on writing a review so that I can keep this hidden gem all to myself...but alas, I realized I must do the right thing and share my experience! Every time my husband and I get our food, there is nothing but silence. You can't help but savor every bite and flavor from all of the spices! My husband always orders the tikka chicken masala and tries to get no spice, as he can't handle any spice level over -1 (lol). The food is on a mild to medium level and he powers through with his mango lassi as the level of spice is perfect for me! We share garlic naan, white rice and crispy vegetable samosas with a divine tamarind sauce. Since I'm vegetarian, my favorites are the tadka dal and aloo gobi. However, I've tried pretty much all of the other vegetarian options and they are all pretty tasty, depending on what you're craving. The only thing I would change is that they don't allow patrons to get their own plates and silverware, as it takes away from the ambiance. However, it does make me feel like I'm in someone's home eating their home cooked meals, served with pride and thoughtfulness. read more

Anarkali fell short of expectations. Especially the part where they charged me differently from their own menu prices. Seriously, WTF? The first thing that irked me was their entire Do-It-Yourself (DIY) self-service nonsense. You order at the register and then seat yourself. Then, things get really annoying. Aside from the food that you order, which they actually bring to your table, you need to get all your own stuff. No joke, I ended up walking back and forth from my table at least 5-6 times to get plates, utensils, napkins, chutney, etc. Even water! By the 6th visit I just started lmao at the ridiculousness. Even Indian lunch buffets bring you freaking water. And... on top of that, when the bill came out they asked for tip. More like they should have tipped me. We ordered the chicken tikka masala ($8), the coconut prawn curry ($10), the bhindi masala okra side dish ($6), and raita cucumber yogurt dip ($1). The prices listed were what were on the menu on August 31, 2017 at 2:26 PM. The food was good, but not worthy of 5 stars. Sure, we got free naan from the Yelp check-in offer, but we had to order rice ($2) separately since it's not included with either the chicken tikka masala or the coconut prawn curry. I mean, how the hell are you supposed to eat curry without rice? That's like a hot dog place charging you just for the sausage with the bun having to be ordered separately. People would riot. After our meal, I went to pay. Everything is done on their POS (point-of-sale or in this case piece of sh*t) system so I didn't see the final bill until I had paid and was already back in my car with receipt in hand. That's when I noticed that Anarkali subtly charged us $1 more for the coconut shrimp curry and another $1 more for the raita yogurt dip than what was on their menu. Look, when your menu says one price and you charge a customer another price without telling them it is a freaking scam. Seriously holding back my F-bombs on this review. Guess the naan wasn't free after all. At the end of the day it's not about the cost, but integrity. SMH. Then again, do you know the bargains I can get for a $1 at the adjacent Dollar Tree? 1 star for making me do all the work and being freaking shady as hell. Tasty and inexpensive Indian/Pakistani cuisine! My friend and I had made plans to have dinner in Walnut Creek last night, but for some reason downtown was super packed. As we were pondering our options, we ran into my Yelp friend Shayla B. She told us the large crowd was due to some kind of special event going on. We decided to change our plans and head towards Anarkali in Concord, a restaurant that I had bookmarked due to its high marks here. Anarkali is located in an unassuming shopping center behind the Park & Shop and very close to Brenden Theater. It operates out of a large space previously occupied by a short lived Korean restaurant (like three weeks). There is ample parking on site. We walked in at 7:45 pm and found the place to be busy. The spacious interior was bright, clean, and warm. A/C was apparently off or not functioning but there was a large floor fan that helped dispel the heat. Indian artworks were the main decors of the place. Seating was made up by booths and tables. We followed others' lead and ordered the following items at the counter: - Garlic Naan ($2) - Chicken Tikka Kabaab ($8) - Coconut Prawn Curry ($10) - Chicken Tikka Masala ($8) - Bhindi Masala ($6) - Diet Coke ($1.50) With T/T, the check came out to $44, which we paid at the counter. We were then given a number for our order. We were also told complimentary chai tea (self serve) came with our order. First up was the chicken tikka masala. About half a dozen good size chicken breast cubes sat in a beautiful sauce made with cream, butter, and tomato. The chicken cubes were super moist and tender. The sauce was creamy and had a very balanced flavor. I should have ordered some rice. It would have been perfect with the sauce. Six pretty large butterflied shrimps were in the coconut prawn curry. The shrimps were succulent. The sauce was moderately spiced and had a nice hint of coconut flavor. The chicken tikka kabaab was definitely the star of the evening. Six large chicken breast cubes were served on top of a bed of sliced onions on a sizzling platter. The meat was super tender and flavorful. A squirt of fresh lime juice accentuated the taste to another level. The bhindi masala was our lone vegetarian dish. Chopped okra, tomatoes, and onion were cooked soft and seasoned with an Indian spice blend. The vegetables still had a bit of texture in them despite the slowing cooking process. The okra wasn't slimy at all. The flavor was again very balanced. The garlic naan was very good. Four large pieces came in an order. The naan pieces had the right thickness and a nice crispy outer edge. Towards the center they were soft. Lot of chopped garlic and cilantro were used. My only complaints was it came near the end of the meal. It was a minor service flaw. I had encounters with the cashier and one of the owners and found them to be polite and friendly. I really enjoyed my meal here. The food was well-prepared and flavorful and the pricing was very reasonable. One other observation. I noticed a lot of folks of Indian or Pakistani descent were dining here. To me, that's always a great sign of authenticity. Anarkali is a wonderful addition to the Concord dining scene. Very inexpensive Indian/Pakistan food, it's definitely one of the hidden gems. It's located few min down concord downtown behind park n shop; same plaza as dollar store. I been going to Naan n Curry since it's the only Indian restaurant that I knew of but I'm so happy that I found this place via Doordash. It was a late order but I ordered two dishes and two naan since it was our first time we didn't want to stuff our stomach so late but they're pretty generous with the portions. 4 people and plenty of curry but we should of added one more naan and it would of been perfect! Next time I know! 1. Chicken tikka masala (spicy) --it was delicious. Compare to naan n curry, this place make their curry perfect sweetness, not too much and heavy where naan n curry is just sweet. On top of that, the spice killed it. It kicks in at the right time. Their chicken breast was little bit on the harder side but it's okay. 2. Karahi chicken curry --First time, my family and I all loved this one the most. Chicken was tender, I think they use thigh instead of breast. Which was nice. 3. Garlic naan 4. Potato naan -- for their naan, definely smaller portion but taste way better here than any other place! You can actually taste the garlic and potato is stuffed! It was finally the day for me to try it when my cousin and I were passing by. S E R V I C E: It was pretty quiet inside, but we were welcomed in and given a menu. My cousin and I were delighted to see that the dishes were very affordable. I ordered Palak chicken and asked if I can get paneer added into it and they did without any questions! We used our free naan bread when checking in, and all the dishes and utensils were self serve. They have free chai tea and extra onions and chili for grabs while you wait. F O O D: I loved my dish, and everything tasted authentic. It wasn't over spicy and presentation looked very homey and simple. I felt like I was in India again! You really can't go wrong here between the super generous portions, great pricing and the free plain naan for checking in. It might be a bit confusing at first of the set up walking in but give it some time. I ordered take out for lunch so just went to counter to order. But overheard the gentleman working telling other customers that in the future it will be order at the counter and seat yourself. The chicken tikka masala was nice and creamy. My only gripe is that I asked for it to be spicy but it wasn't. The tandoori leg was a good size and came w/ a chutney/other sauce along with a lime wedge. The naan did not disappoint as it was fluffy and a bit thick. Great to soak up that curry. Plenty of parking as it's inside the same lil plaza as Dollar store. read more

Okay seriously peeps. If you haven't been to Anarkali yet WTF are you waiting for? We've been here 6-7 times now and each and every time we get blown away by a dish we haven't tried before. This last time we had the fish Tika Masala and OMG the white fish filets were so delicate and seasoned just perfectly as to not overwhelm the mild flaky fish! Terrific cuisine that is undermined by irate staff and a sanitation health concern. Asking to bring the hot tea over to our that was ordered over the counter 20 minutes ago should not be an imposition upon the service staff (the server looked irate when my husband asked). Also, please check for roaches in the restroom. There were some lying beside the toilet. read more

Do not judge a book by its cover. While Anarkali could use some interior decorating tips, the food is unreal. Legitimately, they serve the best samosas I have ever had and at the insanely cheap price of two for three dollars. Franky, anything on the menu seemed like a bargain, and it all comes with free tea. Great addition to the Concord dining scene. Though we do not lack for South Asian cuisine, this solidly Pakistani restaurant offers a unique perspective previously lacking in the area. Still in soft-open mode the place was empty when we dined, early on a Friday night. Our Meal Samosa chat: potato filled pasties deep fried and served with spicy chickpeas. Nicely prepared, excellent spices which didn't hold back for American palettes Aloo Gobi: cauliflower and potatoes. A real standout. Looking forward to trying more of the vegetarian options. Tandoori Shrimp: excellently spiced , but unfortunately, a tad over cooked making them a bit rubbery. Still... I ate all of them. Tandoori Chicken Tikka: perfectly cooked, moist chicken breast, nice balance of heat and lemony hints. Standout dish Aloo Naan: come on.. its mashed potato stuffed in bread. Awesome! Basmati Rice: fluffy, hints of cinnamon and cumin. Overall, solid experience. Service was very friendly if not a little scattered. I just moved to concord area and wanted to try out food from Anarkali. I am a south-east Asian food lover, I get takeout from Pakistani/Indian restaurant 1-2 times a week at minimum. This is probably ONE OF THE WORST Pakistani food in bay area. Food was tasteless, watery and stale. On top of that their takeout packing needs to improve big time. They packed Gulab jamun in paper take out container, one of those Chinese food take-out boxes. The sugary syrup ran from the box all into my food order making all the naan bread wet, lumpy, sweet and uneatable. It also made my papadam order go to waste because it was soaked in sweet syrup. Needless to say, we had to make a fast food run for late night dinner. This place is not even worth trying. Avoid and save your money people. I hope restaurant management takes a look at this review and brings improvement. read more

They increased their prices ;( Now I have to evaluate this place against paying only $1-$2 dollars more to go to a buffet which has a much larger selection of food. Probably closer to a 3.5 or 4, but it's COVID so I'm being extra generous to small restaurants who definitely need support! My wife had the paneer tikka masala, which she liked but it ended up being a bit sweeter than normal. Probably should have got it spicy instead. The samosas are good, too- not too thick and the price is good. The real star here was the meat- the seekh kebab as well as the chicken tandoori was fantastic- usually tandoori chicken can get a bit dry, but this was so good and retained its juiciness. well worth a visit if you're in the area and craving Indian food! read more

Food is absolutely amazing! Whenever we come into town, this is our go to restaurant. We always get the lamb naan, Chicken tikka masala, and usually a fish or prawn dish. Everything is always packed full of wonderful flavors, some mild and some spicy. The amount of spices they use is perfect, not too much but yet everything very flavorful. The rating in Yelp caught my eyes, but it seems that there have been mixed reviews that varied from 2 stars to 5 stars, so I had to see for myself. I am usually pretty careful when I dine out with my husband because with him it's about low cost and high quality food.. Don't know if that makes sense, but there's good food out there that is low cost, so I am always on a hunt for that especially when I am with him. Anarkali is located in the same shopping area where the big Dollar Store is located, they are tucked in the corner of the parking lot. The windows are tinted, so it's hard to see inside. The restaurant is pretty bare, with plastic plants covering half of the wall. You order at the counter, and once you order, you'll be given a number to place on your table. I ordered the lamb curry, Prawns Vindaloo, Potato Samosa, garlic naan and basmati rice for $27. They had chai tea, with creamer already for free. It was pretty good, a bit salty for me, so maybe if I ordered a plain naan it would go well with the main dishes. The husband loved it, but he still looks for the weekend Indian restaurant buffet. read more
