This is hands down my favorite Indian restaurant--not just in the Concord area, but arguably anywhere. Last night, we ordered takeout and got Garlic Naan, Chicken Tikka Masala, Bhindi Masala, Mixed Vegetable Korma, Aloo Gobi, and Palak Paneer. The standout was definitely the Chicken Tikka Masala--it was absolutely rich, and flavorful. I also equally loved the Aloo Gobi--the cauliflower and potatoes were cooked perfectly, and the savory spices made the dish shine without needing any meat. Bhindi Masala was another hit for me. I know the "slimy" texture of okra can be off-putting for some, but I didn't mind it at all. The only dish I wasn't too crazy about was the Mixed Vegetable Korma. It felt like a "kitchen sink" mix of veggies, including ones I'm not particularly fond of like bell peppers, peas, and green beans. While the curry flavor itself was decent, it didn't stand out compared to the rest. I'd probably skip that one next time. Overall, though, it was an incredibly satisfying meal. I'll definitely be ordering from this place again.

Definitely in the Top Five of my favorite Bay Area restaurants. Last Friday was the fifth time I've eaten here, and each time the food has been straight fire. I know very little about Pakistani or Indian food, and part of the reason why is most restaurants that serve those cuisines are ridiculously expensive. I have no why their prices are so high. But so often they are prohibitively expensive. At least to me. But somehow Anarkali Concord is able to serve up outstanding dishes at a very reasonable price. The menu items are so attractively priced, one is tempted to try everything on the menu And Lord knows I'm never one to resist temptation. I'm all about trying everything on this menu. And surely I will, visit by visit. This most recent visit we got the Veggie Korma ($10) and Chicken Tikka Masala ($11) like we always do, and tried the Shrimp Biryani ($13) and the Lamb Chops Tandori ($15). We also got some of Anarkali's truly wonderful Garlic Naan and an order of Basmati Rice. What a feast! Every dish was bursting with flavor. The food was so good the conversation we had been engaged in before the food was served slowly died. By the time we were two or three bites in, the table was quiet except for one or another of us muttering some version of "got damn this food is good!" every few minutes. Absolutely impossible to identify a favorite dish, not just because they were uniformly excellent, but also because of how well all our choices worked together. My guess is you could pick any other four dishes and achieve the same result. All the menu items compliment each other. I'm going to test that Idea next time I visit. i'm going to blindfold myself and pick a random item from four different sections of the menu. That's how much I like this restaurant and how confident I am in their recipes. I highly recommend Anarkali Concord! Really delicious Pakistani food at bargain prices. Mikey C says: did I mention the FREE serve-yourself chai? It's so damn good!

My friend and I came here this afternoon before our Dollar Tree trip, as we were both quite hungry. I had bookmarked Anarkali on the recommendation of fellow Yelper Harvey K but hadn't had the chance to try it until today. My friend really likes it and has eaten there before. I had the veggie tikka masala and my friend had the butter chicken. She also ordered garlic naan, rice, samosas, and the gulab jaman. I had a piece of garlic naan and a little rice. The tikka masala definitely had a kick but the naan, rice, and the raita balanced out the heat. Though I forgot to request it mild, the spice was not unbearable for me. As another reviewer pointed out, the naan was doughy, which I agree with and like. Both the naan and rice were not dry at all. Love that they had complimentary chai. The restaurant was pretty empty when we were there. You order at the counter and they bring the items to you. Our interactions with the staff were minimal but they were polite and brought the food out quickly. Yes, it's a hole in the wall place. The quality of the food fat outweighs the ambiance, hence the 5-star rating. Prices are very reasonable. The tikka masala was $10 and the vegetarian dishes range from $9-11. Seafood dishes range from $12-13. We will be back!

Even the Russian ones I had in Portland were super interesting and flavorful. And don't get me wrong. The Paneer Tikka Masala and Lamb Korma were tasty enough. But the Momo's really sealed the deal this time. We ordered from this place from DoorDash a couple weeks ago and I almost wish we didn't order Naan. It just felt like it kinda got in the way. The buffet doesn't change much, but I tell you, we were there this afternoon, and I can't imagine a better combination of tastes than what I had: 3 each of the small fish pakoras and the fried chickpea flour ones; a portion of tasty white rice; a delicious cup of yellow dal; and a goodly portion of goat curry. All of this along with the yummy Naan that was brought to out table. Sargam is a tried and true venue for us (We go back a couple of decades and have dined there with so many friends over the years I probably can't even remember them all. We'd been there once, years ago, and couldn't really remember it much. We walked in and waited a solid 5 minutes (or more) for someone to come to the front acknowledge us, and there were others waiting as well. We assumed that they must be very busy, but they only had a few tables of customers. The atmosphere wasn't nice, but it was ok. We didn't expect fine dining vibes. There were no table cloths, and a mint green paint job which matched the color of the napkins. We ordered the "vegetarian feast" and also the butter chicken; we wanted to sample different items and probably bring home leftovers. The first thing that came out was the chai tea, which was fine. After a little wait, the samosas arrived. The samosas were delicious, and we agreed that they were the best we'd ever had. The two sauces they served with the samosas were also very tasty. Unfortunately, that was the last great thing about our experience at Sargam. The wait for the rest of the food was quite long. We weren't in a hurry, but it was definitely longer than should be acceptable at a restaurant. (All in all we were there for about 90 minutes). When the food finally came out, one of the items was missing from the vegetarian feast (the "two naris"). We didn't notice until later that we never got this item. The food's taste was average. Perhaps below average for the Indian food in the Bay Area. The chicken was not very tender but it wasn't terrible. We ordered the food "medium spicy" but there was zero spice. Also, the temperature wasn't as hot as it should be. Most of the items were almost luke warm. The nan wasn't anything special. It wasn't as tasty (or warm) as it is at most places we've been to. At the end, we were supposed to get two desserts, according to the menu's description (photo attached) of the vegetarian feast. They never came. We wrapped up our leftovers and I asked the woman (who seemed to be the manager), who had taken our order and also brought us our check, if we were going to get the desserts. She gave me a horrible look. She looked as if I had said something terrible, and acted like she had no idea what we were talking about. I explained that the dessert was on the menu as part of the "vegetarian feast". We waited about five more minutes and no dessert came out. I decided to pay and leave; we were full anyway. Sargam has "acceptable" food and ambience, long waits, and bad service with missing items. Also, they added a "service fee" of 3.5% to the check (which was not mentioned anywhere on the menu). Weird. I wanted to like it. We won't be back.
