I absolutely loved everything about this place from the menu and menu humor to the decor and atmosphere to the super solid food. Really good burger and fries, and lots of other burgers I'd like to try. That's why I had to buy a sweatshirt. Honestly the one thing I'll say though is that the people (mainly the two that I dealt with) were not too nice or friendly. Other than the guy that loaned me his phone charger (Tristan, who I bought a drink for his kindness) the people, not the service, we're a little tough edged and for no reason. Maybe that's how they're supposed to be (and if it is, disregard this comment), but after I left (and I gave a big tip but didn't get a thank you or a smile), I can't say I had the best feeling. Absolutely ridiculous that they even call themselves a professional establishment. The bar was disgustingly dirty. We went in for dinner. The front area was full. So, we tried to sit in the back dining area. A waiter promptly told us that area was closed. There was no other seating available other than at the bar. While there was bar stools to sit at, the entire bar was covered in dirty dishes and other garbage. We then asked the bartender if we could sit outside at the outdoor dining area. She very rudely said, "no, I'm not coming out there to take orders or deliver food. After taking one last look around at this disgusting dump with their rude, staff, shriveled, shrewd, decrepit bar staff, we decided to cut our losses. Save yourself some time. I love Anchor! Not one ounce of attitude in here from the friendly bartender even though this is a dive in the middle off a quiet industrial area in Superior. We had just came from downtown Duluth and everyone wants to be by the water in the middle of the action eating at chain restaurants. Just cross the bridge 5 miles away and you will find a cheap great burger joint and we were away from the craziness. They have a large patio. The draft beers were $4. My blue cheese burger with homemade fries were only $6. The bar was filled with nautical collectibles hanging from the ceiling. Pretty cool dive bar in the older part of town, where some of the warehouses are located. This is most likely a spot where the waitresses and bartender know 90% of the customers. The interior has a definite nautical theme, with a lot hanging from the ceiling, walls and any spot they can find basically. I figured I'd visit one of the supposed best burgers in the area on my visit to Duluth. As far as food goes, they dont have much on their menu, other than burgers. I ordered the 2/3 lb burger, since most of them are only 1/3lb. They don't ask how you want it cooked, but it comes out about medium well. I added fries, which are fresh cut and good. One minor hangup for me was that you can choose fried or raw onions, I asked for fried, but they brought out raw. Overall prices are very reasonable, considering the quality and they include tax in the price. The burger patty was not really seasoned much, and tasted like somethng my parents would have made when I was a child. I'd recommend trying it at least once, if you are a burger lover like me. While this was by no means the best burger I've had, it was pretty good for a bar. read more

Looking for a dive bar where the burgers are tasty but cheap? This is the place for you! We stopped here on the way through town after making a pit stop at the brewery down the street. For some reason, the internet service in the area was down and any business operating on internet couldn't accept credit cards (and their cash machine wasn't working either). We were fortunate to grab a 20 spot next door at the bar which still used a land line on their cash machine. $20 will get two people a couple excellent burgers with fries and even have some money left over. Their flagship burger which has a full pound of meat on it is only $6.75! Most of the other burgers are around $5. They come with chips but if you want the hand cut skin-on fries, it will cost a $1.25 upcharge which is fair enough, given how cheap the burger is. I ordered the blue cheese burger. I was expecting some crumbled blue cheese on top but it was just a bunch of blue cheese dressing slopped on. The burger was still decent tasting though. My guy had the reuben burger which had sauerkraut and swiss on top with a side of thousand islands dressing. I discovered that dressing as a dip for fries is outstanding. He really enjoyed it. The buns are soft. I would have liked to have mine toasted some so it wasn't soggy with all that dressing. The waitress was efficient. It was packed on a sunday afternoon so there wasn't much chit-chat. Plus we weren't drinking so it wasn't going to be a bigger ticket lunch. There is lots of kitsche on the wall (and none if it looked dusted). Some definite history at the place. There is a cute little "library" nook right at the entrance if you want a private surrounded table. Some old books were on the shelves. I would have liked to see what was in there. Taste-wise, I give the burger a 3.5. They got the 4 star for being inexpensive. I think next time I would order a regular cheese burger or a bacon cheese burger and some bbq sauce if they have it. Holy moly! I have NEVER had such a good burger before. I've never even heard of Anchor Bar until a good friend introduced me to them a few weeks back. I feel like I've been missing out on the BEST burgers I've ever had in my life. I can't even explain how delicious this burger was. It's juicy, cooked just right and seasoned so so well. I got the Blue Cheese Burger and was pretty skeptical about at first just cause I'm usually not a fan of blue cheese. But man, this burger changed my mind. I get the rude waitress persona or whatever. When you downright screw up, don't accuse your customers of lying. If I said I ordered my meal through Uber eats (and I did), I meant it. Take your restaurant off the app and stop inconveniencing service industry workers and your customers. Also, I am aware that you only take cash, I have been dealing with the issue for over a half hour with the poor girl that sat at your shitty establishment and waisted her time while waiting for my meal only to be told she wouldn't be able to collect her tip and her time is not being paid for, I certainly didn't need to be told three additional times that you only take cash. Figure it out. Edited to add: I was made aware of the inability to take a card by the Uber eats driver who was unable to pay for the food with a card, it was the whole reason I had to call the establishment in the first place. I assumed since the restaurant was on Uber eats and I was able to place an order, I was able to order on Uber eats and could receive my order. Assumed things changed with payment systems. Was a bit of a letdown after hearing such high praise about the place. I appreciate the cheap prices and the food was good for the price. However, myself and another party member asked for the addition of bacon on our burgers per suggestion of the waitress and neither burger came with bacon. The service was not the definition of friendly. I asked the waitress, an older woman, a question about one of the menu items and she solely stared at me without giving an answer. It made me uncomfortable. When we went to pay, the bartender did not acknowledge us for at least a minute until the aforementioned waitress asked her to help us. I asked the bartender not to charge me for the bacon I did not receive and she did not act apologetic about the error, although she did honor my request. There were fab reviews for the place and they had me at olive burger. Upon opening the door, this was the very definition of a hole-in-the-wall (and I loves me some holes-in-the-wall). The tables were all full, so I bellied up to the bar. From my vantage point I counted 20 burgers on the grill at one point. Was it a big night, or just the dinner rush? My burger arrived and I found a salt-less smash burger with a shmear of cream cheese on the bun which was sprinkled with cut green olives. While I did not expect a tapenade made from an exotic polysyllabic variety of olive...this was it? The slice of promised grilled pineapple never made it, either, but there was a heaping pile of limp and undercooked fries which I knew better than to finish.
