The 4 of us each got a burger and by the time we got it back to the camper we were starving after a long day of travel! It's the type of dive that you blink and you find another treasure on the wall, and with no room to spare. The menu is burgers with numerous combos and hand cut fries. I was feeling classic so I acted on it. What I ordered: Double Cheeseburger ~ two 1/3lb patties, American cheese, pickles, and onion on a bakery bun. **firstly these burgers are huge and they cook them very nicely, keeping them juicy with some pink. Secondly, I don't know how they get away with such a bargain, but I'm not complaining. Anchor Bar is a must visit spot when you are in the Duluth/Superior area. The place is seat yourself on a first come first serve basis. The menu has traditional options and interesting combinations. The burgers have that seasoned grill taste and the fries perfectly fried. This is a cash only place. We brought our kids. The environment was lively, but not over bearing with noise. It is a small space, so get used to being very close to those seated around you. When it is very busy, people who lurk by your table waiting for you to get up. I was skeptical about this place but it is AMAZING! I got the grilled ham and cheese and it was perfect and exactly what I was looking for. Staff was extremely busy trying to keep up but they made sure that if you needed anything that you didn't have to wait. There are nick-nacks everywhere and you see something new each time you look. This was great fun, and I can see why it's a tradition for our local union to visit when we have conventions in Duluth. A true dive bar except the bathrooms are actually rather nice. The tap beer selection is not huge but very good. The burgers and fries are excellent. I would put them in the top ten of what I've had. A kind of cool thing is they have beer glasses that they can fill from the bottom! Maybe I don't get out drinking much, but i'd never seen that before! Maybe eight or ten tables total. But I sat at the bar that holds about 15. Service was right on point. Had the Reuben burger. Really liked the 1000 on the side. Great Dive Bar in gritty Superior, WI. Excellent burgers and great service as well. Our group walked over from the nearby Best Western (they recommended) and were not disappointed. Everyone had a different burger with hand cut fries and they were all top notch. The bun was really fresh and unique and the ground beef was delicious and cooked correctly. By the time I walked the length of the restaurant a table opened up in the front. The poor waitress was stretched thin, but she still managed to get out table cleaned and grab our order. Don't expect a burger fast. They are all made to order and they are worth the wait. I didn't have room for the 1 Pound Galleybuster, so I settled on the 2/3 Pound Anchor Burger with fries. This burger isn't just good, it's "I will eat until every morsel is gone from my plate good". Every bite is as good as the one before it. I was eating fries trying not to split a seam in my overloaded stomach. Bring cash as they don't accept plastic, it'll be worth the ATM fee. I really wanted to give a great review, because this place is iconic. But I've been here twice lately and it's just been ok. I got the cashew burger, which was highly recommended, Burger itself was a bit dry and my cheese wasn't melted, so all my cashews kept falling off. It was considerably better once I added pickles and mayo. The "Swiss" is Swiss like white Kraft singles, sadly. I mean, that's ok on a standard cheeseburger. And our burgers took a loooonnngg time. Like 35+ minutes. Service was minimal. My advice, look at the menu ahead and know what you want and order right away and ask for everything you might want then. read more

There is not 1 part of my experience that says I'd like to go back there... The burgers are cooked/steamed and smushed to death! The buns are stale and tasteless...everyone has attitude and the bartenders/waitresses act like it kills them to serve you.
