While visiting the Buffalo area on vacation I was excited to experience the hype of the Anchor Bar. Considering that Buffalo style wings originated from this area of the country I was extremely underwhelmed. First off after being seated for a party of 6 it took about 10- 15 minutes just to get water. I would be more understanding if we had come in around 6-7pm on a game night but we came in around 8pm on a Monday evening. We didn't experience too much trouble ordering food even though the lack of vegetarian options were horrendous for my grandparents. Which again isn't a huge deal considering it is a wing place but they said they could not even take the meat off of salads which I found unreasonable. So my grandparents ended up eating a grilled cheese sandwich with some fries which was not filling for them. As for the wings I ordered, I decided to go with a single order of the Anchor Bites which are the 10 boneless wings with the Hot sauce. Once I got the wings, the first thing I noticed was that they gave me packaged ranch in a plastic cup instead of ranch poured directly into a ceramic container. Again not a big deal but I found this odd considering I have never seen this before. Disappointingly average. After being in Buffalo over a month and realizing I hadn't ordered wings yet I decided I needed to change that. And since I am new I thought I would be touristy about it and try the original. Yes I know this isn't the original location, but this location is more convenient and it was cold and windy and I was lazy. Anyway, we ordered wings, the medium spicy and the garlic parmesan since that's what was recommended by our server. I got a flying bison lager to go with them, and they had a decent selection of 6 taps of local craft brew on tap. So anyway, the wings. Just ordered Anchor Bar, through Grubhub , so you already know your paying a premium price !! Food was ICE COLD as our Buffalo winters!! Wing sauce was all over all of our other boxes of food in the bag!! Hot Mess !!! Great wings!!! Anytime I visit Buffalo I come to an Anchor Bar. The staff is fantastic. The wait times are minimal. The place is always clean and kept up. Always friendly staff and the other customers seem friendly as well. On this visit I was with my son and we just left the Buffalo Bill's game. Can't go wrong in Buffalo with a football game and some fresh wings. We order 2 huge orders of wings half mild and half garlic. Wow so tasty. So delicious. So succulent. Ooh it's so good. I figured I would have some leftovers to bring back to Syracuse. I was mistaken because they were so crispy on the outside and so tender on the inside we ate them all. You would think they were breaded because the inside of them is so moist. The atmosphere was electric and very relaxing at the same time. Some Buffalo decor proudly displayed. We had three drinks total for only five guests. We were charged for six or more guests for the full max 20% gratuity. The food was cold and did not arrive in a timely manner. This is the only place I know that charges gratuity for six or more. On the receipt it shows an option of 18 or 20% if that's what you wanted to give. We were never told about it and we're charged for the full 20%. Called and talked to the manager she replied there was nothing she could do. We went for lunch on a Sunday and it was relatively busy but we didn't have to wait for a table which was good. For lunch, I ordered the 4 pc. chicken fingers w/ bbq sauce and my husband ordered the buffalo wing burger. The fingers were good and the sauce was good too - I wouldn't say the best I ever had, but decent. He enjoyed his burger and the others in my party also said they enjoyed their meals. I have not tried their wings (yes, I'm from Buffalo and this is a fact) but I have heard there are many places that are better for their wings soooo yeah. Most of my friends are trying to compare the difference between anchor bar and buffalo wild wings and I feel the difference is two things; the texture and taste. In terms of texture and taste between the two establishment is that I feel buffalo wild wings is a bit over powering in flavors and the chicken is more crispy(like it's fried twice or bathed in batter), too much of something isn't always good. It's our first time to Buffalo, visiting from California, and this place made us feel like locals. Logan was an amazing bartender, she was attentive and on top of things, making sure that all orders were taken care of. I think there are better wings in Buffalo than at the Anchor Bar, but the suburban locations like this one are definitely a step below the original. I stopped in with a friend last night for some late-night food. The nearly-empty restaurant hours before closing, when nearby restaurants with bars were hopping, should have been a sign to turn back. Having had Duff's earlier in the day with the parents, I didn't feel like having wings, so I ordered a beef on weck. $11 for a beef on weck and chips is a bit pricey compared to what it often costs and I could have gotten a much better sandwich elsewhere for less, including at rival Duff's. The homemade chips were okay, but tasted a bit stale. My friend noted that the menu here is much smaller than the original location, as did I. Food was very overpriced compared to other Buffalo establishments and it seemed like they were trying to cater to the tourist market staying at nearby hotels or flying into the nearby airport. Entrees and an appetizer for two people ran $50, one of the most expensive meals I have had recently. It certainly wasn't worth $50. With this Anchor Bar location, you're paying for the name. I don't know how this one does wings, but the other food is barely mediocre and expensive. I certainly won't be back to this location. If you want to try Anchor Bar, don't settle for this miserable franchise. read more

Anchor Bar on Transit We don't have loyalties to Anchor Bar or Duff's. We like them equally for different reasons. At the Anchor Bar, I am a big fan of the Chipotle BBQ. (Sweet and spicy). We also wanted to take advantage of the Thursday night special. Pizza and wings for $27 dollars. The pizza was surprising good. and it came with 20 wings, which we split between two flavors. Another plus the the Anchor Bar on transit is that it is not overwhelming busy.
