Found this spot on TikTok and it looked Instagram worthy, so my cousin and I headed over on Saturday for a late lunch [def have to go back for brunch]. The restaurant was full so it ended being a good idea. The restaurant has a bit of a fancy vibe with pendant lighting and flowers along the walls. We got the Moco Benedict and the Kai Gata w/ Rainbow Potatoes. The rainbow potatoes were crunchy and fluffy on the inside, but unfortunately, some of the pieces were super salty. I was so excited to try this place. My husband brought back a to go order of a French toast combo. And it would have been good, except they used old/bad bananas. They should have said they didn't have them --- it's extra for the banana and walnut addition and these bananas are gross (see pictures). I had to scrape them off the French toast. Next came the egg rolls, about four rolls cut in half with accompanying Thai sweet chili sauce. I split the pad see ew with tofu. It would have been nice to have had a few more vegetables thrown in, especially the broccoli as I counted just a couple of pieces. I did like the tofu although I felt there could have been more and a bit more tender. They could totally redo the front patio dining area as I think it would draw more customers in. If it had not been for my friend recommending this spot, I would have walked by. It wasn't awful, but the chicken was a little bit dry and I felt like it was mostly breading. Marina Strips: I thought the marina ships were not bad. The beef was very tender, but the flavors were a little too strong. They use Sriracha as one of the main sauces, and it was a bit much for me. Panang Curry: I've got the Panang curry was really good. I opted with pork and everything was cooked perfectly and the flavor was fantastic. It was really good to eat with rice. 24 hour beef noodle soup: I tried a little bit of the 24 hour beef noodle soup. The soup base was very flavorful and the beef was very tender. No complaints. I came for dinner on a Saturday night around 7 PM and didn't have to wait at all. The restaurant itself is very beautiful and decorated with flowers on the walls. The staff were really nice. I picked my dad up from SFO around 10am and he was craving breakfast, so I took it as the perfect opportunity to finally try Blackwood Kitchen--especially since I'd heard such great things and wanted him to enjoy a really good meal. Once we sat down, I noticed a standing heater across from us--and quickly understood why. The space was quite cold. Our server mentioned it takes time for the heat to kick in during the mornings, so my dad and I kept our coats on while reviewing the menu. To warm us up, we ordered the Apple Pear Toddy (non-alcoholic) and it was nothing short of amazing--10/10. The burst of pear and apple flavors was perfectly balanced, comforting, and exactly what we needed to shake off the chill. It genuinely warmed us up and set the tone for the rest of the meal. To start, my dad ordered the Marina Beef Strips appetizer and really enjoyed it--9/10. The cucumber paired with the spicy beetroot sauce was flavorful with just the right kick. He's not usually a fan of spicy food, but this dish hit the mark for him. For my entrée, I ordered the chicken and waffles (8/10). The chicken was cooked perfectly and I loved the fresh berries, but the waffle leaned a bit too sweet for my taste. With the candied walnuts, syrup wasn't necessary for me. My dad also ordered the Oscar Benedict, and before even digging in, he appreciated the spinach, pimento, and capers on the side. Once everything came together--the fresh crab meat, hollandaise, and parmesan--he gave it a solid 10/10. Every bite worked beautifully. As we continued eating, more guests started to arrive, and I realized we had come in right at opening. The service was excellent--10/10. Our server checked on us multiple times, answered questions, and even complimented our menu choices, which added a nice touch and made the experience feel more engaging. Overall, this is a great spot for breakfast or brunch. The ambiance and decor alone are a 12/10, and the service was attentive and welcoming. We ordered the Pad See Eew, the Basil Beef and another dish like a Bibimbap fusion with bottomless mimosas. The food was ok, nothing really that I HAD to come back for again. With Bottomless mimosas from our experience from everywhere else that we have been, we've never really had to ask for refills on our drinks but here, we had to ask every single time we needed a refill and it was also difficult to get anyone's attention. They were busy so we understood and we had a wonderful server named John. He was friendly, funny and warm. We were eating our food and enjoying our drinks, John came by to check on us. We said everything was great and refilled our drinks. After finishing the second round of mimosas, we were trying to get another refill but we kept missing everyone until we finally got someone's attention. When he got to our table, we asked for a refill and he scolded us saying this is your last call and it's already been an hour and 20 minutes. We were confused because its "bottomless" but I guess we were so excited to see each other that we overlooked the time limit on the menu. John comes by and said that they had told him that this was our last call but if we could down this last one, he could refill our glasses one more time so we chugged and got our last refill. We love John. He was the best. Literally 5 seconds later, the bill was slapped down on our table by another lady and the man that said we're on the last call started to clear our table while we still had full glasses and we were still eating our food. We take out our card to pay and placed it on top of the check. The lay comes by and snatches it off the table the comes back a few seconds later with the receipt and says "Thank you. Come again" and darts off before we could ask for boxes. We still had our drinks and we wanted to finish it. I guess we had over stayed our welcome, she comes back to our table, slaps her right had down, bends her head down so that she was at my eye level and rudely asked, "Are you done? There are people waiting" and leaves. We look over at the door and there is no one waiting so we were very confused on where the hostility came from but John came back to our table and we asked for boxes. He was assisting on packing our food and chatting with us while doing so. The man that was clearing our table before we were done came back and told John not to talk to us and to get them out. John still took his time with us and we were thankful for him. I am highly disgusted at the behaviors we've encountered here and very surprised that we were even being treated that way. We were very excited to try a new restaurant and one with good reviews. We were paying customers. We weren't rude. We just wanted to enjoy a nice restaurant but instead got a horrible experience at the end. I am sad because we didn't get to try anything on the brunch menu but we will not be returning to this restaurant. read more
