Well it's been about an hour and half I've been waiting for a cheeseburger now. This place blows. OVERRATED.

You think you love brunch, but you don't. You really don't. You've been brainwashed or, maybe, you've really never been to a decent diner, a place that doesn't give you pitchers of insipid mimosas that dull your brain into thinking that the food that you're eating is worth Instagramming, no less putting in your stomach. The truth is, you're a fool, an absolute, no doubt fool. And the only way you're going to realize it is to go to Anchor Grill, order dinner, lunch, or, in the name of Baby Jesus, the meal we used to call breakfast. B-R-E-A-K-F-A-S-T (which should properly be eaten at 10 PM). Breakfast. You put the heavenly hash browns in your mouth, sopping up the over easy eggs before hand, and wake up from your overwrought, Benedictine fever dream of poached eggs, artisan toast, and Ancho-thyme-yuzu Hollondaise. Afterwards, you walk down the street to the first bar you see and order a whiskey and lemonade. You are now a party to the elect. From this edge of Sunday, Monday never looked so good. read more

Anchor Grill is by far the best breakfast joint in town. It has a comprehensive menu that's sure to please and prices that are very reasonable. The menu is half the story here, this place has great atmosphere, servers with attitude and a Barbie sescet to entertain. No late night out on the town is complete without a trip to the Grill, this is when it comes into its own. Cop's, robbers, goth queens, rock stars, cowboy's, drunks, they're all here. If you suffer from mysophobia, this might not be the place for you but for a great reasonable breakfast with lots of entertainment Anchor Grill is where it's at. read more

The first time I visited Anchor Grill I thought, "Now this is a place I'd like to visit frequently." However, at the time I lived an hour away. One night a friend and I traveled the hour just to eat here again. After eating, we wanted a refill of coffee before we hit the road. When the waitress came back to take our plates, she told us the bar crowd was about to come in and we needed to pay and leave. It was extremely offensive. We bought meals, had one cup of coffee, and sat there without making a ruckus unlike all of the drunkards screaming and hollering around us. Will never eat there again. Although it looks small and outdated on the outside this restaurant is surprisingly larger than life. Its hours of operation are 24/7 so its a great place for any meal or time of the day. Its conveniently located near main street where the bars are all located. Which means you can have a good night out on the town and sober up with a delicious "home cooked" meal. They offer comfort foods like biscuits and gravy and large omelettes. They seem to change servers frequently but there are a few who seem to have been around for years. Because of its location they sometimes attract a rough crowd. But the atmosphere is welcoming! read more

I've been coming here for years......so I was disappointed when I came at 11pm and was relegated to a booth as soon as you walk in because there was 3 people spread out over the front counter.....on their cell phones. Only one was actually eating/waiting on a go order. Took at least 10 minutes to EVEN be recognized. They left an item off the order. AWESOME!!! After staying at our crap hotel, we needed some good food. We were at a plaze so I just asked the car next to us where some good food was and they told us to keep going down this road and we would run into THE ANCHOR GRILL and we sure are glad we did!!!! This place takes you back in time, it is a total time warp, love, love LOVE IT!!! The COFFEE has got to be some of the best that we have EVER had in our lives. We just kept drinking and drinking it, the poor waitress had to keep making pot after pot of the stuff. Other dinners agreed when we said how much we loved it. Food was really good too! We had breakfast, and it's homemade, and to order. For me, it was like I was back at my grandmothers house, the people were super friendly and nice. I want to go back, more often!!! Other people's food looked pretty damn good so I am thinking they have lots of good things to PUT IN MY BELLY! We will be back, hopefully SOONER then later! read more

So the bars are closed and 2:30 is here your dilemma in Covington, you are basically stuck with Waffle House and White Castle. But then just down the corner is Anchor Grill, Anchor is located on the corner of a sketchy part of town but that really adds its character. I always get the "purple drank" no pun intended at all. They still have the old school punch/koolaid machines that always turning up the juice. Then depending on the mood either guetta and eggs or a variation of the doubledecker. Regardless you can not really go wrong. The place is not really the most clean but what the hell at 3 am you don't really care. read more

Ever wondered what your grandparents meant when they talked about the "good ol days?" Well...dine at the Anchor and you will soon figure it out. It looks like a place Don and Peggy would have eaten in Mad Men. Wood Paneling, old juke box, wrap around dining counter complete with ash trays. This is not some reproduction of a 1960s diner...it is a 1960s diner void of any updates. We sat at the counter and were waited on by Rose. She couldn't have been sweeter or more attentive. She even heard me mention that I wished I had saved my gravy to dip my fries in. I had a bowl of gravy 10 seconds later. The food was exactly like I thought it would be...nothing fancy or imaginative but very good! I had the double decker + goetta. My new favorite breakfast spot in the Tristate! I heard about this place while dropping off people while driving for Lyft. Let's just say it has become my go to. I came in today looking for my usual breakfast and was asked by the nice ladies have I tried the specials. She recommended the fried chicken and it didn't disappoint. 4 pieces......yes did you heard me 4 pieces of fried chicken, two sides, and bread or biscuits. I chose the biscuits and they were to die for. The chicken was made just for me piping hot and crispy. Mash potato's and gravy were on point and I had broccoli and cheese. I saw someone eating macaroni salad and I asked for another side of that. EVERYTHING WAS HOMEMADE. The macaroni salad had chopped up vegetables that you could tell thy did it in the kitchen. It wasn't from a commercial food store where a lot of people go to and act like they made it in their kitchen. The owner was there sitting down and I had no clue of that. All I kept doing was humming to myself because it was soooooo gooooood. I recommend this place to all of my clients I drive looking for a good place to eat. It's more than enough food. And the ladies are super friendly. I love his place and if you are looking for a great place to eat without the frills, this is it. You would swear your grandma cooked the food. The Anchor Grill has it all: faux-wood vinyl interior, knick-knacks from any noteworthy 60's-era seamen, and an aroma of Grampa's house. The AG is a definite OG, whose health-standards were questionable before it was hip, and I'm a fan. The food on the whole is as expected: greasy burgers, some standard breakfast items, and a great seafood ceviche (just kidding). The biggest menu stand-out IMHO would have to be their Goetta, which is fried to a delightful crisp on the outside while maintaining an enjoyably softer texture within. All things considered, this place is about atmosphere, not Bobby Flay-level dining. If you're like me and enjoy a good dive, this place is a win. Check it out! read more

Anchor is my favorite greasy spoon in the Cincinnati area, especially because it serves goetta, which I can't get in my city. But a word of caution: Goetta doesn't work well in omelettes. Just get it on the side and eat it with syrup. read more

Let me begin by saying the servers are very nice and breakfast is usually very good. However, I can no longer make any recommendation for this restaurant due to blatantly racist behavior by one of the employees. I have dined here many times over the past 25 years. In fact, my in laws have started a tradition of coming here on Thanksgiving morning. Recently, I began taking my niece and her three children here for Sunday breakfast. The two youngest are boys who are 3 and 2 and really like the pancakes and bacon. Last weekend the boys were a handful and one was out of his chair a lot - the server very nicely asked that we keep them from doing that again and this morning they never left their seats. My niece's partner and the father of her children joined us for breakfast. He is Black and the children are bi-racial. We began to notice that the cook, a middle-aged white woman, was walking back and forth looking into the dining room we were seated in with no other diners. She looked disgusted every time she walked by (why she wasn't busy cooking I do not know). Finally, after the family had taken a few bites she stormed into the room and grabbed a crayon that had fallen off the table and said "They keep stepping on crayons and ruining my floor!" She then grabbed all of the crayons the boys were coloring with and put them in a cup and slammed that cup in a counter behind us. Our server was not present for this and probably had no idea. My niece and her older child, 13, were embarrassed. Her partner was angry and embarrassed. I was ashamed that I had brought these children to this place and thought it would be fun for them. At the same time and to make matters worse, my nieces partner cut into his chicken and it was raw and bloody. He left. I paid the $62 tab and tipped well like I usually do, but told the server what had happened and she seemed mortified and said she would tell the owner. I believe she will but I am compelled to write this. This business is located where the city administration offices are being built. There will be people of color living and working around it. What happened today was so hurtful that I will not return. I hope the owners take the time to read this and correct the problem. read more

I have been to the anchor grill once, and I can say I will be never be going back. The service, and atmosphere was awful. If you ever decide to come here remember to bring cash. They do not accept debit or credit cards. The workers look like they haven't showered in weeks. I was not intoxicated, but once we got seated I noticed they openly have roach traps scattered throughout every booth. Looking down onto the floor under the booth, I found several dead roaches. This is a very interesting place. I can see this place being popular in Covington when the bars close since this place is open 24 hours. When I walked in there, i felt like I went through a time machine. There was an old jukebox playing and a ping pong machine tucked in the corner. The decor is pretty dated with old naval decorations which suits the name. The restaurant part of the cafe is pretty warped. The tables seemed to be slanted downward like we were in the bottom of the ship where the floor is bowed. If that is their intention then great job ha ha. It was fun to be in there and the patrons seem to be regulars since some of the waitresses would call them by first name. The staff there was ok. Service was a bit delayed and hard to get their attention when they would zoom by. The food was pretty good. I had breakfast and didn't have any complaints for my eggs, sausage and hash browns. the hasbrowns were pretty darn good. Wasn't too greasy. My boyfriend got the ham and cheese omelet and was very cheesy which is my favorite part. he did get the goetta which in my oppinion wasn't that good. It was very greasy and oily. No taste to it. The texture was perfect for me because I like the crunch of it but which the taste was there too. All in all, I would come here again after a night in Mainstrasse. Just need to make sure I have cash on me. FYI, they do have an ATM if you forget. read more

The Anchor Grill is a great greasy spoon place in Covington not far from Main Strasse! The art work on the outside of the old building is neat. The building itself and the decor definitely has a certain charm to it. I love the cheeseburger and tomato soup here, yum! Pretty good breakfast too. Living in the Oakley/Hyde park area there aren't a lot of quality choices when it comes to having breakfast. My girlfriend and a few friends decided we wanted to have breakfast at a place in Hyde park but when we arrived they had a line out the door. I convinced the gang to hop in the car and drive across the river to an old school spot called the Anchor Grill. When we first arrived they were thrown off by the smell of cigarettes, they didn't realize it's still legal to smoke inside restaurants in KY. Once they got past the smell we all really enjoyed the classic decor Anchor grill has to offer. Everyone enjoyed their food. Service was average, we all could've used a few refills on coffee but All in all it was a success. For people who are tired of waiting an hour for sleepy bee or echo, Anchor Grill is a great choice and I promise you'll enjoy the experience. Also this is very important to remember, they only accept cash so remember to stop at the ATM before arriving. We made that mistake and our friend had to pay for all of us. read more

Ordered some pancakes and received a gargantuan portion. Unfortunately the pancakes where white, dry and disgusting. I ate a half of one pancake and called it quits. Didn't take it to go or anything. The bacon though was pretty darn good. The rudeness of the person behind the counter I could do without. If you don't like what you're doing then don't do it. You're in the people business. Being from NY/NJ I was really hoping to find a great Diner out here. I'm sure there is probably stuff on the menu I would find satisfactory but why bother when there is 50 other restaurants to check out that i haven't been to. read more

The Anchor Gill is what it is...not fancy, down to earth servers, non-smoking from 11am-4pm. (Really, why bother!) The Goetta is good, although it was hard not to laugh when I ordered extra cheese on my omelet and she asked "how many slices". Clearly no gruyere here. The Peanut Butter Pie is interesting - really rich. Not sure I could take it after a night of drinking but I would take it home and freeze it for later. I have to go back just to see the Marionette Jukebox work - the guy reading his paper underneath it looked like he would not have been happy if I had started it going. My family's gone there for years. The food's always been good. In recent years they've cleaned it up quite a bit, but it still has that greasy spoon vibe. This place is absolutely amazing! My grandpa always took me and my siblings here when we were little. Our favorite part was the barbie band dancing to the music and the old time decorations.
