My husband and I have been wanting to go to Sugar and Spice ever since it was reviewed in Ohio Magazine. We finally had the chance on August 18. The exterior and interior created a good diner atmosphere. There is a good selection of breakfast and lunch choices. My husband ordered chicken fingers and fries and I ordered a burger and chips. We waited quite awhile, but we weren't in a hurry. When our food finally arrived, I was rather surprised by the burnt appearance of my chips. The taste matched their look. I tried to pick out a few that didn't look burnt. Then I checked out my burger. It was a very thin, burnt patty that was only made tolerable by the toppings on it. I couldn't finish it. After our waitress brought the food she never returned to check on us and our food until she tossed the check on the table and moved on. My husband went to the counter to pay and there was our waitress again. She didn't say a word to my husband. No "how was your meal?", no "thank you for coming in today", nothing! We walked out greatly disappointed and still hungry. We will never return. I'd post the photo I took if I could. It's not very appetizing. read more

The service was top notched, the eggs fluffy, the goetta (sausage with oats, something like scrapple), the coffee smooth and the ducks were plentiful. Yep, they have rubber duckies by the basketfuls. Spent $31 total. Lots of parking. Clean place. Delightful service. A tell this place uses REAL butter. Started with the half order of blueberry pancakes. They're thin pancakes. Not too sweet. I think pancakes for the table are a must order. The breakfast burrito was so good. Another must order. Got it with bacon. Love the house made salsa. Crispy tortilla. The breakfast sandwich was great. I would love to know where they get the English muffin from. I do wish they used one big sausage patty instead of two smaller ones. But the sausage tasted great. Love the fact that this location opened after many months of renovation. We were excited to finally have a local diner around our neighborhood. There's room for improvement, hence the 3 stars, but I believe they can be excellent with some tweaks. All the staff were incredibly welcoming and warm. They gave us suggestions on what to get and made sure we got a rubber ducky on the way out. The service times, however, were too slow. Took about 15-20 min after being seated to order drinks. Then another 15-20 min to order food. Then another 15-20 min for food to arrive. That's close to 45 minutes of waiting around. Food itself is what you would expect of any local diner -- good sized portions, fried eggs, buttery pancakes, and crispy potatoes. Also the orange juice and diner coffee fit the vibe perfectly. We enjoyed our meal, but definitely come in knowing what to expect. The whole experience was overall positive, but there's room to improve. Specifically the service times and turnover. Ultimately I emailed them and they sent an initial email asking for more information but then they never followed up to my email or a follow up email I sent. I have reviewed S&S before, but not recently- well before the Reading Rd reno. I had an order from here last week and was sadly disappointed. I got the chicken club sandwich, on toasted white bread. First, the bread wasn't really toasted- it was barely even "warmed" (only the barest hint of color). The chicken breast was underseasoned and there was only a HALF SLICE of bacon on the whole sandwich. Normally, i would simply never return after a meal like this. They call your name over a speaker so you know you won't get missed. The service is always great. Shawn in the back room served us today and she was so nice. This was the first time my friends and I ever came here. We weren't sure what we were going to expect, but it was a good time! Staff was friendly, funny, and helpful, but weren't attentive and didn't check on us much, and when we needed help we had to get someone who was walking by. I got the eggs benedict and a side of pancakes. I think overall I would prefer more seasoning in my breakfast and though they are famous for their thin pancakes, I didn't enjoy it as much. My hollandaise sauce was a bit too much on the sour side, but the hash browns were good. I think their food could be better, but it was decent for a breakfast place. I am really giving the review for the staff and the eclectic atmosphere, it was cool and interesting. With every meal, you get a free rubber duck to take with you and we had fun choosing one each. It's a great place for a casual date, family outing, and decently priced breakfast food. Their menu has a lot of variety and choices. We went there for brunch on Sunday, August 24. The remodel is cute and it has a charming diner feel with the ducks and trains. Unfortunately the food was terrible. I ordered the breakfast special of eggs, goetta, toast and potatoes. All 4 items were horrible. The goetta was paper thin and fried to a burned crisp. It's always nice to find a new place to eat, especially (for us) one that specializes in breakfast! I could eat "breakfast" food at any time of day. This place is a little "rough around the edges" but it is an authentic diner with countertop seats that dominate the room, booths for groups of 4 or less, the kitchen window that you can see from your seat and smell the delicious odors as you walk in, and a cool cellar where the bathrooms are (which were clean, an important point to some, although the vent fan was a bit loud). Both my wife and I got the breakfast special with eggs, a meat, and pancakes. Pancakes are their specialty, which I really enjoyed (with fresh blueberries). We are regularly in Cincinnati so I am sure we will be back (or at their other location). Go check it out to experience the "charm" of real diner dining. read more

Unfortunately one of our worst breakfast experiences. Super slow service which I understand and isn't the biggest deal. But, we had to flag down our waitress to get waters for our kids 20 minutes after we ordered. The bigger issue was when the food came and 3/4 orders were wrong. When we told them my daughter was given the wrong kind of egg, he brought that one back and came back with a different one that was still wrong and raw! My omelet was burnt beyond recognition. My husband thought I had ordered a pancake not an omelet it was so brown. The kids enjoyed the pancakes at least and the ducks. When the bill came there were extra charges for stuff we never ordered at all, and not all we ordered ever made it to our table. After waiting an hour for the food we didn't have time to wait for more to be made bc we had other plans. So, we let the waitress know so we didn't get charged for things we didn't get. I love this diner!! I went on a Saturday for breakfast at 8:30 (which was a good thing because by 9 am. there was a wait wrapping around the front and outside of the building). Seating is mostly at the bar, but there are also tables available for larger groups. Overall the food was really good and they served it quickly!! But my absolute favorite part was the rubber duck they gave each of the members in my party! It was a nice touch and really unique!!
