Ok - what a fun little dive!! Soooo much food and it was all good! I'm not much of a burger girl, but when I want one I really want it done well and they do good burgers. I had the delux with fries and it was nice and hot and piled high with the veggies. Malt vinegar at the table for my fries was perfect. They have an off menu menu too and we tried the stuffed mushrooms which were huge and gooey with some sort of goat cheese filling. A really nice refreshing strawberry lemonade to wash it all down and I was stuffed! Service was super nice diner and dive friendly and great for family or a casual date and everything in between. Bards is by far my favorite burger place and if I'm going to splurge on calories it will always be for a bards burger! They've become quite popular over the last few years and have done some small remodeling to add additional space. Now for the food, I tried the 3 alarm burger with no alarms as I don't like too much spice. The burger was fresh, great temperature and all around flavorful. I tried the side Greek salad which was much bigger than I expected but it was still good. The fries however are a must have if you've never tried them. The server was super nice and made sure we had everything we needed. The owner also walked the restaurant checking in on the customers which I always love every time I visit. Our first visit won't be our last. This is quite possibly the best burger I've ever had! These burgers are advertised as smashburgers, so I went expecting a very flat, crispy burger. Instead, I devoured a delicious, juicy, thicker burger. There are 15-20 burgers on the menu, and the staff will alter the toppings however you like. However, the burger is so flavorful, I don't know that you would need any toppings! The buns are also substantial and tasty. Highlights included fried pickle chips (not too salty or greasy), ranch dip (a thicker dip, not a thin dressing) and French fries. The servers were welcoming and friendly. Our food came out in a timely manner, and drinks were refilled as needed. The restaurant and bathrooms were very clean. We easily found street parking around the corner. arrived about 7pm on tuesday(burger special) being run on 6 of the burgers and included fries for just $10. the fries were hot and fresh with the perfect amount of salt. the burger was charred well on the outside yet still juicy. the pickles were tangy and the 1/2 and 1/2 of fried pickles and fried cheese curds was a perfect way to start the meal as the burger and fries did take quite a while to make it out but were well worth the wait. staff was friendly and attentive, and the atmosphere was quiet and relaxed. there were tvs and quiet music playing in the other dining room. i love the setup its cozy and spacious. i would definitely like to try the burger with doughnut buns but sadly they were out of doughnuts and couldn't make the bread pudding with that featured item either. overall it was great and ill be back. read more

We decided to try Bard's Burgers and Chili after seeing them on The Food Network. It was definitely worth the drive to get to this dive. The restaurant was bright, quiet and very laid back. So, you could definitely stop in during lunch or after work and not worry about having to change first. The first thing we noticed was the smell of the beef brisket and chicken wing that were in the giant smoker out back, but those weren't done cooking, so we ordered the fried pickles. They were very good. We ordered a Deluxe Burger with a cup of chili and the Mushlove and fries. My husband really liked the Deluxe, but I thought the Mushlove was the best. They use fresh mushrooms and plenty of melted Swiss cheese. They also have fresh cut fries. Which is my favorite. They were cooked perfectly. Soft on the inside and crispy on the outside. Then we had to try the fried Oreos since we'd never had them before. OMG! It was like a chocolate stuffed funnel cake. The service was great. Both the servers were friendly and willing to offer suggestions, which I always appreciate. Did I say they have beer and alcoholic beverages? Well, they do! A kind of out of the way place but make sure you go this way. This is "THE" place for burgers. A wide variety to choose from. Any of them are going to be delicious. I had the one with bacon and fried egg. My wife had the mushroom burger. They have wings, chili and many other items to choose from as well. I've been wanting to try Bards for a long time and finally had the opportunity to meet friend there for lunch a few days ago. Because it was my first trip I wanted to test things out by just getting a classic burger and fries. My friend got the same. We were both very happy with our meals. Everything was hot, fresh and delicious! Service was fast and friendly and even though the place was very busy we didn't feel rushed. It definitely has a dive feel to it - for example, the booth that we sat in had ripped seats repaired with tape. But I think that's the ambiance they're going for. There's some parking on nearby side streets as well as a free city lot across the street. We had seen Bard's on many lists of best burgers in the city, so we absolutely needed to try it. And while it's not my #2 burger, it is absolutely delicious. The space is quite small, so make sure to get there early (especially on a weekend) if you want to be seated quickly. I really liked the cheese curd appetizer. I do think we should have ordered the half size instead, as the burgers and sides were plenty of food. I also liked that you could get a coney as a side (pictured here). I've been here several times throughout the years when i worked in the area and when I am in the area now but I never submitted a review. I've had the poutine, chili and the burgers and they all have been good. The service is good and the owner comes and talk to you. They are now offering smoked products. The last time I was there I had the brisket and when I was walking in I was able to smell the smoker they had in the back. This time I had a bowl of the Brunswick soup which was excellent. It's a place that you can't go wrong but it depends on what you want on a burger or even if you want a doughnut bun. The burgers are hand made and nothing fancy. As of ambiance I don't know what you call broken vending machines from the 90's but I guess it's something... The BIG issue with this place is the back of the house. There is always a huge bottleneck in the kitchen. I have been here 4-5 times and never made it out in under an hour. Most recently we ordered for a party of 4 in a 3/4 full restaurant and 40 min later the waitress came and said we are next up in the kitchen and it should be 8 more min. It just seems like there is no kitchen efficiency given the overall very basic menu. Bottom line is overall good but a little expensive and don't go if you don't have at least an hour. read more

Wow! I stopped in without knowing they were on the food network. I was in the area and they rated well on YP. The pricing is super reasonable even after Covid. I'm not a fan for Cincinnati chili but theirs had really good flavor, just missing beans. The delux burger with fries was well above average. I was concerned with the patty being 1/3 lb but it proportionally worked well with the bun. The fresh cut fries with sea salt were also very good. A couple of bottled rootbeer options and I'm set! I love a great burger. I have only heard positive things about Bard's Burgers and Chili so I suggested it to my husband and off we went. We were invited to pick our own table, which we did in the back room which featured walls painted in vibrant mustard yellow and ketchup red. As I sat down, I had the feeling that loads of people have enjoyed a first date here. Service was quick and friendly. We both opted for the Bard-B-Q, a cheeseburger with bacon, barbecue sauce, caramelized onions and pickle. All burgers come with a side of fries. You can upgrade to other sides by paying the difference in cost. There's a full bar with a good selection of beers, which is what we ordered to accompany our meal. The burgers were great, as were the fries. Really tasty and nicely made (they will recommend how best to order your burger). It was just about 5 pm when we arrived and several couples and families were already seated. I was impressed by how busy Bard's was by the time we left. I generally dont give reviews, especially negative ones. If zero stars was an option, i would choose that. Ive actually thought about this and read other reviews before making this post. Bard's is convenient to my home so come to Bard's several times over the past couple of years. The same servers have been there through that time. The service has always been good. There are usually two servers on the dining side where I like to sit. Although all are friendly, one of the ladies definitely outworks the other two-fold and always seems to be serving more people. That's why I was stunned and then angry at what I witnessed. The owner, who typically stays in the kitchen, berated a server in front of everyone. He came out of the kitchen and rushed over to the server, almost chest to chest, towering over her yelling. His face was red, his body language was scary, and he was in her face yelling. She must have teared up which made him angrier. Told her to go in back and followed. One man shook his head. It was uncomfortable for all. I was genuinely scared for her. A couple on the other side of me were discussing what happened and he told tablemate he witnessed a previous outburst from the owner toward a server. This is unacceptable. He was abusive. The young lady is maybe 20 and looked scared and I don't blame her. I paid and left and won't return. I thought about this for a few days. I looked at reviews all the way back to 2017 that talked about the owner, Jordan, being abusive and unfair to his servers. All of whom were female. There were also some female customers who left negative reviews that they were treated poorly by him. This is a pattern. Clearly this man doesnt like women. Some posted when they tried to resolve their issue he bragged he feeds the homeless. People who are truly charitable don't brag about it or use it as excuse for their poor behavior. Pathetic! The use of the homeless man's picture and plight pasted on Bard's FB page is just a cheap marketing strategy. There are good things there. The brisket is great. The burgers are fresh but could uses easoning. Fries are hand cut but occasionally overcooked. The ladies there are super nice, they work as a team. and i like the orders being taken on tablet. It seems quicker. The other bad. Jordan generally looks sweaty and unclean. I just chalked that up to the kitchen being hot. However, with the recent excessive FB posts you can tell he is generally unclean and ungroomed. Close ups of the pictures show his nails are dirty. Not good for the face of a business. This is not a place you want your daughters, mothers, children or grandchildren. Even if the food was stellar, the abusive toxic environment is a no go. read more

While I really like the recent remodel and the food is still good, I do want to point out that these are not smash burgers anymore. It is a pub burger, but you will not find the super sear and crispy edges of a smash burger. The fries seemed to have changed over the years too (super crispy now). For a beer and a single Mic burger and fries, it was around $27 before tip. My buddy had a different burger and two beers and it was over $30 before tip. read more

My daughter, granddaughters, and I ate dinner there on a recent Friday night. They were busy but we got seated right away. Our server was very friendly. We ordered our food and some cheese curds for an appetizer. Each of us got one of their burgers. We got our curds within about 10 or 15 minutes. They were over cooked and not very good. We then proceeded to have to wait what seemed like an eternity for our food. I felt that the obviously regular customers were given preferential treatment as a few of the people who came in after us were served food before us. My sandwich, a patty melt, was only lukewarm, but tasted okay, and I found the fries to be overcooked as well. My sister brought me to this classic place. This is clearly a burger focused restaurant. Started with the fried cheese curds. Yum crunchy outside and chewy gooey inside really good. I had the deluxe, a 1/3 lb burger on a really nice bun. You can have all the extras you want. the burger was really nicely charred nearly like a smash burger. crisp fresh lettuce and tomato. Super good burger. Definitely a winner. My wife had a cheesy chili coney dog. Chicago knows how to make a dog. This isn't a dog. A tiny wiener covered with watery something they called chili, Yuck. There was the tiniest snafu with the cheese curds so they brought me few fries to tie me over. The fries were outstanding! They were fried to a perfect golden brown.
