I've been to Blinkers Tavern many times, and it never disappoints. The atmosphere is incredibly relaxing, with a nostalgic, throwback vibe that takes you back to a simpler time. The food is outstanding across the board--from the steaks to the cheese sticks--but the real star is their bread pudding. It's absolutely worth the trip from anywhere in the tri-state area. Parking is also easy and convenient, with a garage right across the street, as well as their own lot and additional street parking. I was so excited to try a local spot for dinner on this trip, but left disappointed. Our party of 5 was seated immediately with our reservation. The hostess & I believe a manager sat us. Both were friendly & acknowledged the birthday girl in our party. Atmosphere is great. You could comfortably walk in wearing jeans or come dressed up. Neither would be over or under dressed. The menu has juuuust the right amount of options, which is great! Heather was our waitress & while she was kind, her service skills were lacking. Granted we weren't at a Michelin Star Restaurant, but we also weren't at a dive bar. There was an endless amount of awkward reaching through, over & around when refilling drinks. There were a couple of instances where she actually touched our shoulders to nudge us to the side so she could reach through. Totally not okay during service at a restaurant nicer than a dive bar. We ordered the cheese sticks starter which were so yummy! Highly recommend! A couple of us ordered the Cesar side salad & were highly disappointed. The dressing tasted like it was mayonnaise heavy & then watered down by lettuce that wasn't dried after being rinsed. Even adding tons of extra pepper didn't help. The lettuce also tasted like it has been too wet for too long. The lobster mac was ordered in the group & it was tasty but soooo greasy. So, order with caution. We had the Black N Bleu salad in the group & that was good. The Atlantic Salmon was another dinner ordered & the crust seasoning was delicious! Sadly, the salmon was a bit overdone. It does come with a lobster cream sauce, which confused me. It was only so so & I definitely skipped it entirely. The steamed broccoli was done to perfection though. Not soggy & not too crunchy. We also had the 12oz ribeye & that was great! Flavorful, cooked perfectly! I will add though, that the steak knives need an upgrade. First time visit to Blinkers Tavern at lunch time on a week day. The interior has a cool vibe- relatively small space, but quite a few tables outside (warm weather on an early March day) that were all occupied. They have a charming patio at the back of the interior space as well. I didn't realize they have their own lot, but in case it's full, there is plenty of street parking nearby. The service was excellent. Our server was very attentive and kept drink refills flowing. We ordered the pretzel and beer cheese and the poutine for starters. The pretzel was huge and tasty. I didn't care for the beer cheese, probably because I was expecting a more solid cheese product. I would describe this more as a cream sauce. It didn't seem to have much cheese in it and was very 'liquidy'. Also the ramekin was only half full. If it had tasted better, I would have asked for more, but as it was not, we didn't even finish what was given. I thought it was a bit pricey at $12.95 for one large pretzel. On the other hand, the poutine was fantastic! A very unique take on the dish with a mix of cheese curds (although they reminded me more of pieces of mozzarella sticks), french fries and Andouille cream gravy. I ordered the fish tacos which consisted of Blackened Salmon, Thai Chili Sauce, Black Bean Corn Salsa, Pico de Gallo. My order came with two and they were fantastic! Went here for lunch. My adult son said this place was on his try list. The atmosphere and service was good. The food didn't live up to my expectations. We ordered a giant pretzel and cheese sauce. The pretzel was OK (I've had better) but the watered cheese sauce was horrible! $13.95 was high for mediocrity. My wife liked her fish tacos. The fish and chips were underwhelming. Looked like fish sticks versus fried cod. The fish was not what I expected but tasted ok. The small amount of fries and 1 ounce of cole slaw was disappointing. The cheese curds over fries were OK. What a beautiful restaurant we found in Covington for lunch! First of all, they have a huge lunch menu, with very reasonable prices. Monday is $10.95 burger special with Saratoga chips. I had the hot brown with turkey and it was delicious! The other option was with goetta and I will save that for another visit. My hubby had the steak sandwich with onion straws. Three different rooms that you can sit in, all very pleasant. We will be back to try a steak for dinner. Sorry, no pictures as I was enjoying my lunch so much. read more

Wow, just wow. I am very hard to impress with steaks and to say the least, I'm impressed. I got the blinkers New York strip, and our waitress told us that it was an award-winning steak and I was still on the fence about it and wondering, how good can this really be? But no, my first bite, my eyes widened. The flavor was amazing and it cooked perfect to medium rare. The brussels sprouts were a nice addition to it as well. I also got a Caesar salad and I really enjoyed it. I get Caesar's at every restaurant, and this wasn't the best one I ever had but it was definitely top 10! Croutons were good. Vibe was southern rustic, which is why I didn't expect much, but I'm glad because my expectations were surpassed exponentially. I will be coming back here, guaranteed. Went to lunch today with Daughter and granddaughter. Started with the appetizer Poutine! Fried were coated and crisp with cheese curds and a delicious gravy topping the fries. This appetizer was worth the visit by itself. Unfortunately the food experience went a bit south from here I had the fish and chips. Again, wonderful fries but I would never order this fish again. There were 3 little over cooked strips that tasted as if they were fried yesterday. Dry, overcooked and greasy. So disappointing. Glad I was mostly full from the poutine! My daughter had the special of the day, which was a French dip. The meat was sliced a bit too thick and overcooked The au jus was fantastic and this helped her get half down. (They really should get a slicer for this sandwich and cook the meat very thin!). Granddaughter had chicken tenders and they were huge! This place had great service and the prices are average (lunch for three was a bit over $61!). Wish I had liked my meal as much as the appetizer but both were super disappointing. read more

My family and I were in town for a walk on the riverfront and decided to get lunch instead of going all the way home for leftovers. We chose Blinkers because it had a lot of people outside eating and the menu displayed on the sidewalk looked like it had something for everyone! The outdoor seating is nice, the street isn't terribly busy and good people and dog watching. Our waitress Sarah was very helpful and kind and kept our waters full on a sunny afternoon! The sandwiches were large portions served with yummy Saratoga chips and warm bbq sauce. I got the avocado turkey club and my mother in law got the Blinkers Burger, which she really enjoyed! My husband ordered the hot honey biscuits off the brunch menu, and while they were a smaller portion, he really enjoyed them. Clean plates all around- a great sign! Service was great and everyone who jumped in to serve us was fabulous, but we did notice a bit of a wait time when waiting to be helped and waiting for the check. Came here for a rehearsal dinner and it was great! I wish I knew about the parking in the back but we were able to park in the lot outside. The back area was very nice and able to fit a larger group. A group of seven of us came in for lunch today. My preference was to make reservations online, but doing so was only good for groups of six or less. For seven I had the option of calling, which I didn't want to do. There was an option to submit a comment or question on the 'Contact' page on their website. I used this to submit a request for a reservation for seven. I received an email letting me know it was all taken care of... easy peasy. I didn't check in with everyone, but I did hear the fries were salty. I tried one and found it tasty, but yes... perhaps on the salty side. Mark ordered the Blinker Burger with pepper jack cheese. He opted for the bleu cheese crust add on. He said it was really good! he liked the blue cheese crisp on top. It was really good! Loved the fries as well and pickle. All went well together. I ordered the Kentucky Hot Brown with Goetta. In hindsight, I recall thinking it sounded a bit too cheesy, but I forgot all about my cheesy concern when I saw 'goetta'. I love goetta and including it in a Kentucky Hot Brown sounded just weird and different. Well, that's me. No surprise, it was very cheesy. I enjoyed the bacon and the tomatoes. I enjoyed it, but I kinda wished I'd opted for something else. The restaurant has a slightly classy vibe and I can see how Blinkers would do a good dinner business with their award winning steaks. My wife and I had dinner here with another couple, long time friends of ours. We were first-timers, our friends were not. We were in search of a good meat and potatoes place and it seemed that this might be it. On parking the car near the kitchen in the rear of the building we could already smell that we had found the right place. When we entered the establishment it was already clear that the ambiance would be appealing. I loved walking into the bar area from outside, an old looking dark wood bar with a marble top, the shelves behind the bar with a serious selection of liquors. Moving through the bar area we went up three steps into the first dining area. We ended up being seated in the rear dining area, up two more easy steps. I loved the opaque ceiling back in that area allowing for natural light in the daytime. Our strip sirloin dinners were excellent and our server was attentive to our needs. Though we were among the last to leave the restaurant that evening we did not feel that we were being rushed to get out of there. Thanks to all the staff for a great meal and a nice evening here. We came here to celebrate our 27th wedding anniversary. We had a reservation and we're seated right away. This is where the challenge begins. It was very noisy, so noisy we couldn't hear each other unless we spoke quite loudly. Second, the air was blowing hard on our table and made us uncomfortable when it was on. Finally, we were sat right by an active door to the outside. Generally not an issue, but right outside the door, a table of fellow diners were smoking cigars. Cigars are a personal choice, you do you. But, the last thing I want is cigar smoke while I'm eating. There were other doors the staff could have used, but there didn't seem to be any awareness of the situation. Now for the food. It was very good. My wife had Prime rib and lobster, with Brussels sprouts. They charged $6 extra for the sprouts. Seems like when you spend $70 for an entree charging extra for a basic veggie seems crazy. I had Chilean sea bass with risotto. Very tasty, but the fish portion was quite small for $60. Dessert was cheesecake. Tasty and super rich. Overall, for $200+ I was expecting more. Maybe I would have been happier had we not had to yell and deal with cigar smoke. read more

Very nice atmosphere. Dont let Tavern in the name fool you. Blinkers is awesome. The bone in Ribeye was one of the best steaks I've ever had. Cooked to perfection. Add the garlic butter. We went there last night with another couple. Our friends both ordered steaks. My husband ordered the pork chops. I've been on a plant-forward diet, so I decided to order the Spaghetti Aglio e Olio without the bacon. WOW! It was so delicious. I couldn't eat all of it because we had ordered small salads and an appetizer first and I was full. So our friends and my husband finished it. They also thought it was very good and raved about it. Restaurant was very accommodating for our large party. They took our reservation with no strange policies. I had a basic breakfast and had no complaints. We made reservations from r Valentines dinner. They have a decent wine selection. We ordered a bottle of Prisoner and enjoyed our conversation with the start of a bottle of wine and a dirty Tito's for me. From there we had the crab cakes which were very good. Then we ordered dinner. I had the classic 8oz filet with baked and also ordered a wedge. My wife had an 8oz with crab and some type of sauce. Along with risotto. Luckily she was able to seat me, but I'm recommended making one in advance. I started with tortilla soup - it was delicious. More flavorful than spicy. For the entree I for the 10oz NY strip and a baked potato. It came with mushrooms on top. It was good. I was super full so I did not get dessert, but I did see this massive plate of bread pudding pass my table and it looked delicious. This place is super cute. The main room looks like a quiet little tavern, but we were put in the back solarium looking area. It was very nice. It's bigger than it looks. We started with the pretzel and it was fantastic. The beer cheese had great texture and the pretzel was crisp and soft at the same time. One of the best I've had in the city. We shared the NY Strip special which came with a choice of soup or salad. We elected for the Caesar salad and it was beautifully fresh and had excellent dressing coverage. We got the steak cooked medium with the garlic mushrooms. The sear on it was absolutely perfect. It was cooked spot on medium. It was a great deal for the $27.95 asked and plenty of food for the two of us when paired with a side of the excellent Mac and cheese. Service was fantastic. We will definitely be back. I feel like Blinkers is a "if you know, you know" kind of place. From the outside, and even the inside, you may never have guessed how great of a steakhouse it was based on looks alone. The feel of the restaurant is more of a casual bar than anything. But on a Saturday night they are booked and busy! Part of our trying this place out was because we wanted to find a hidden gem of a steakhouse. Of course Jeff Ruby's has a hold on the city, but we wanted something different, and Blinkers came up when I searched on Yelp. And wow did it deliver. I had the filet, and I don't know if I've ever had a piece of meat that cut so well. It was delicious and hot and cooked perfect the whole way through. I've been here a few times over the years and every time I am just always pleased. It's a really cute place with a couple of different rooms where they can seat you. They all just have that ambience of old Covington with horse racing and the bridge and anything you might think of. The staff is always very friendly and it can be busy on weekend mornings during brunch but usually you'll get a seat eventually. Always great service at the table! The lady that helped us today was just great and unfortunately I did not get her name. Food here is just always awesome. This was the second time that I had to goetta eggs benedict. It's just great with the home fries and the hollandaise and the goetta is just cooked so well. Highly recommend! I've had other things before but this is usually my go-to brunch item. Found ourselves back here for lunch last weekend, and things were much better. There is a handy parking lot in the back for their patrons, useful in a busy area. I had the daily double with half a turkey sandwich and half a salad. Both were really tasty and the ingredients were fresh.
