Place looks great, completely new and fun atmosphere and the staff are pleasant. The first time we came here the food was excellent, lots of great tasting healthy options (recommend the roasted chicken), good drinks and service. Our second experience was different, the service was ok but the food and drinks werent. The sangria was to sweet to drink, corn muffin was stale, and the salmon didn't taste right. Some of our sides never came out and when asked they said they ran out, so opted for coleslaw which smelled and tasted past due. The food is low budget at Anchor Tavern so many better places to go on the Jersey shore. It looks good on the outside but bad service on the inside. Another thing I experienced when we were there a manager was cursing at his waitress in front of customers. If you are looking for the Jerry Springer show to bring your family to, this place is it. I gotta say I was shocked. I will never ever go back to this place. Please spread the word around town. It seems ironic that both the quality of the food and the management go hand in hand. I live in Belmar, and this is by far our favorite, go-to place. I haven't a clue what these other people are talking about. The food is excellent, serving delicious salmon, great filet mignon, great burgers, the chicken is to die for... AND they offer delicious vegetables!! We've only had great service when seated near the bar, and even better service when seated at the bar! Dominick works the bar and is an exceptional bartender. We had a great time with friends at the Anchor Tavern. With that said, I gave it 3 stars. The service was also a plus. The food , not so much. The restaurant's primary dish, the rotisserie chicken was dry. The accompanying corn bread was excellent. I chose creamed spinach and mac and cheese as sides, both top notch. OMG, that's a Boston Market mainstay. My wife had the salmon which she said was quite good. Our friends had burgers which they enjoyed. To start off we had three apps for the four of us. The clam strips were bready and very small. The soft pretzels with horseradish mustard sauce were tasty. The onion rings, somewhat greasy, were good. The Anchor Tavern, recently nicely renovated, the former site of Connelly Station, was enjoyable and we'll go back. Had fun eating outside and we had to wait to be seated on a Monday evening. Inside seating was spotty. There's live music on some nights and many folks come just come to sit at the inside and outside bars on others. read more

I was in for the second time the other night, the first time we had drinks, this time we had food. We were able to enjoy the outside seating that was recently opened. The food was excellent. We had two half chickens, ribs, 2 chicken wraps, mac and cheese, and fries. The chickens had a ton of flavor. I would recommend the food and the outside seating to everyone I know. The food was 5 stars, but the service was one star. First, it took twenty minutes to get our drink order. Later, our food came out, delivered by a food runner, not our waitress. 10 minutes later our waitress came back to check in with us, and she asked if we needed anything. We asked for ketchup for our fries. She returned 20 minutes later with no ketchup and when we asked about it, she laughed. We ended up eating the cold fries plain. We left very disappointed but will give it another try hoping in was just the one person. read more

Hi , we love trying new places so we gave it a try ! Had a short wait so we sat at the bar and had a nice cocktail! Bartenders were very nice ! Then got the call for dinner! We ordered the PEI mussels! They came to the table cold and not at all PEI mussels! Large and no flavor at all ! We all then tried the white chicken and different sides which not good at all ! Really neat place. They have a wide range of beers on draft. To put "wide range" in perspective, I have never seen SweetWater Blue Ale in NJ, this beer is incredibly hard to find if you don't live in the Southeastern US states. This bar has it. Their pretzels and free bar popcorn are very good and very affordable. This is a nice place to bring a date or a group of friends. They have live music and plenty of space for dancing in doors or outdoors. It's conveniently located on Main St in Belmar. Highly recommend Anchor for a casual drinks/ apps bar. I can't speak to their dinner menu but I will definitely be back again to check that out. read more

Very upset with service. Despite that we are locals, they would not put on hockey after our request. The waitress 'yelled' at us because she said 'the service is what we give is what you you get'. We go in there for a lunch each week but will no longer due to this service and will relay to all of our customers. read more

My first time here was about a week and a half ago. Had my mothers birthday dinner here as my parents both enjoy this place during the summer months. All I can say is ehhhh. Nothing glamorous. Although the inside is decorated very nicely the food is quite boring and certain items just gross. Oh and let me add that out waitress was very sweet and attentive. So let me just get this one out of the way DO NOT, I repeat DO NOT get the Mac and cheese it's disgusting. Unlike anything I've ever had before. Mushy, gloopy, floury, overcooked disaster. I also had the black bean veggie burger. It wasn't anything spectacular, I scraped off the overloaded amount of cheese and what I think was salsa that they put on it and it was edible. Not all places understand how to do vegetarian or vegan properly I understand that, no big deal. For dessert I had the apple crisp which is my go to at any place that serves something of the sort. Again something I put on the DO NOT get list. It was served up as if someone put an apple pie in a blender poured it over sliced apples warmed it up and scooped a dollop of vanilla ice cream on it. It was just mushy and quite gross took a few bites of it before it turned into an inedible gelatinous goop. I forget what my parents got but I know my mother wasn't particularly thrilled with her dish and my father was actually served a few items wrong that he didn't order. All in all the places isn't bad but it's nothing I'd come back for. Oh also one last thing if you like calamari and are a true Italian, I wouldn't advise it here. They put a chili glaze sauce on it that is absolutely loaded with sugar way too sweet to eat more than a few pieces. Wouldn't be bad if it was served on the side. If I get the chance I may or may not come back again. We will see. read more

Management could not have responded better; replacement tee shirt provided, clothes taken to be dry cleaned by management and apologies offered. Seated immediately,our waitress Kelly took drink orders immediately and gave great suggestions when asked the various specialty drinks. Food was excellent . Drinks were amazing, We asked to see the manager and the manager Brenden was at our table in about ten seconds, just wanted to compliment our waitress Kelly and the great experience we had, we gave this restaurant a try because the parking lot at marina grill was completely filled. We later found out that Marina Grill and the anchor both have the same owner,cant say enough good things about the food, drinks, and service at the anchor. obviously the owners are experienced professionals who have covered every base . Friends and I went to Anchor on the Saturday of Memorial Day Weekend after waiting in line at Boathouse for over an hour. We were pleased to see that there was no line. After handing our IDs to the bouncer we were directed to the bar area. Before we got to the bar area we were stopped by the general manager, who wanted to check our IDs himself. My friends and I handed him our IDs without hesitation or complaint, thinking that he probably just didn't see the bouncer check when we came in. He began picking at our IDs and bending them, claiming that they were fake. He even called upon a waitress (who looked very caught off guard) to provide her ID for comparison. Honestly all of the surrounding staff looked pretty thrown off because the "inconsistencies" he was identifying were not clear. The general manager ultimately insisted that my two friends (21 and 27) and I (22) were providing fake IDs and denied us service. I understand that I look young so I normally don't mind when bouncers take another look, but this man clearly had no idea what to look for when checking IDs. My ID has never been denied at another establishment. Even the bouncer, who I assume is more well versed in identifying fakes, didn't question our IDs at all! The manager handled the situation very unprofessionally, telling me to "enjoy my sophomore year" as I left the establishment. The way that we were singled out was inappropriate and hopefully no other patrons receive the humiliation and discriminatory treatment that we did. Don't go here if you don't look 25 or older, the manager is an arrogant young man who doesn't know what he's doing. read more

If there was an option for giving negative stars, I would. One of the worst restaurant experiences. I am a local and we expected a wait, which there was. We were seating within about 20 mins. When we sat the server who was not friendly AT ALL came over to greet us. We already had drinks but we put in an app. It came within about 20 mins which is fine. We then order our food. I ordered the blackened mahi-mahi sandwich and my boyfriend ordered a burger. Sounds easy enough, right? 1 HOUR LATER....My sandwich is RAW and his burger is cold. At that point, I just wanted to leave and get pizza. We went out to have an enjoyable dinner and enjoy the outdoors and it TOTALLY ruined our night. Just awful. I will not be coming back, I miss the old Connolly station more and more since visiting here. When we came in there was a wait and we sat at the bar. The bartender pretended to not see us and we were not able to even get a drink during out wait. After we were seated the server was questionable on if the table we were at fell in her service area and kept telling us she would be right back. Once we were finally able to order, I started with a soup special which was terrible and I sent it back after two bites I don't even remember what it was because it wasn't familiar to anything I've had before. I also never requested it be removed off the check because I didn't want to be "that customer" but I still somewhat expected it to be removed and it wasn't. The server from there was extremely rude and inattentive. I then had the chicken pot pie which was watery and large pieces of chicken made it difficult to even taste anything else. My experience was so bad that I don't even have anything to say about my husbands meal because he didn't want to add to the terrible night. read more
