I was back again in Ballard the other day and had Anchored Ship bookmarked as a suggested place for good coffee and tea from The Stranger. I remember one place they were bragging about had amazind Lavender Chai Tea and it just so happened this was the coffee shop they were refering to! So immediately I ordered the Chai and thought it was amazing! I also got a very tasty pumpkin bar here which brought me back into the Fall mode of thinking quite nicely. What I really like about this place was that I came in not too far out before they were going to close. Some places actually turn you away about 15 minutes or less and will not take new orders. I have to commend this place for being fully functional up to closing time and the staff always being friendly and cheerful despite coming in at a time where they are probably tired and would like to go home. That is very important to me so the service is top notch at Anchored Ship! read more

Wish I came here more often and had free time... After watching the documentary "the perfect cappicino" ... I just wanted to try different cappacinos around down. Anchored seems like an awesome coffee joint in well.. yeah I agree with "Rich U" by saying "IN seattle." The have an off the wall couch deck above the bar you can sit and hang out at, with a few tables which connect to a fabric store. All their expressor drinks are double so they will take care of coffee needs :) As the sign says outside.. come in for a drink and warm up!!! read more

*True* old Ballard meets new Ballard. These folks have been here a good while now and are a welcome bit of Ballard ave unlike the majority of recent arrivals attempting to "class" the place up which effectively just picks up downtown Kirkland and drops them here (I think a shuttle bus runs on Friday and Saturday). At any rate, they're good people who make fantastic coffee. One of my two favourite coffee shops in town (the other up on 24th and 59th NW). It's cozy inside and they all love coffee and many will chat like a good bartender. A true little coffee "shop" that feels like the shops did before the Bucks changed the game into a McDonalds flavoured affair. This place is super tiny but apparently very popular. I didn't like my latte since it was basically tasteless. I did love the fact that it was facing right at the streets of the Ballard farmer's market. Great place to do a lot of people watching during Sundays. Otherwise I don't find this place to be comfortable to sit and do work. More like grab your coffee and go. Then again, I didn't enjoy my cup so I can't think of a reason for their popularity. read more

I've found myself in many coffee shops throughout my days. I have continued to go back to Anchored Ship because of the presence of the baristas. They are so genuine and kind in the way they interact with costumers. I recommend this cozy little shop if no reason other than being blessed by the goodness of the individual making your drink. read more

Cute little cafe with delicious Counter Culter Coffee, I highly recommend the Hologram blend. Great place to stop in during the Ballard Farmer's Market. There's a limited food menu that has great breakfast sammies that they change out from time-to-time but they stop using the oven after a certain time during the late afternoon. read more

Was walking around the Ballard farmer's market and came across this gem. Such a cute aesthetic! There's an upstairs, as well as little nooks and crannies that you can find to just relax. It's a huge bonus to their delicious coffee! They also have an elevator for wheelchairs, which is truly AWESOME. Maybe it's just me, but I think that an amenity like that shouldn't be something unique! However, it is and it's neat that they have one here. Would highly recommend as a cute date spot! read more

My favorite new (to me) coffee shop. It's small and cute as a button. The upstairs loft seating is nice. Their baristas train at Herkimer on greenwood and use Herkimer beans, but surprisingly, I like Anchored Ship's coffee even better than Herkimer. I mostly drink mochas, so your mileage may vary. read more

Excellent coffee, with an inviting atmosphere, and happy baristas! We stopped by this lil shop during a visit to the Ballard Sunday market. The line was way out the door as the shop is tiny. I am sure it often experiences this. Layout is similar to Joe Bar on Capitol Hill with the coffee being just as stellar. The food options are lacking but it is hardly noticeable with the plethora of options in old Ballard. Our baristas were lovely and not phased by the endless line of patrons. On our way out, a friend remarked that it was "the best latte" he had ever had. Highly recommended! read more

First time stopping in on a very busy day, great service and great coffee. I came in during the Sunday Ballard farmer's market, and the line was coiled around the inside of the front area. What's great is that this tiny little coffee shop attracted well -mannered people (and a well-mannered dog!), and though I had a bit of a wait, the staff behind the counter were cool, calm and attentive. I was a little worried that my coffee wouldn't be up to snuff, but it was! I've become quite the coffee snob, not just with the beans, but with the baristas. I had a soy latte, and the coffee flavor was nice and light, the soy flavor wasn't too sweet or overwhelming (like Starbucks), and it was a perfect foamy mixture that wasn't too hot. I even loved that for a 25 cents, you can get four chocolate-covered espresso beans. How could you say no? Just as I was bemoaning the lack of coffee options during the farmer's market, I stumbled into this place. Don't go if you're not willing to happily wait, but do consider if you like a laidback, delicious coffee experience. read more

My review is from visiting their weekend pour over bar location at Hilliard's Brewery on 49th with Mmmhmm Coffee. Carefully crafted by Jon, this coffee was incredible. Don't even think about putting sugar or cream in it, please, just put that stuff away. I had Counter Culture's Haru blend, sourced from Ethiopia, which claimed to have 'notes of lemongrass and starfruit.' You better believe it! After a long day of brewery touring this was a welcome and surprising cup of coffee. Speaking of the cup, you get to keep it, and it looks nice in your kitchen, mmmhmm. read more

Walked here after having brunch at the Ballard Hotel. The Sunday market had just closed and it was rainy and cool outside. This place is VERY small, but not in a way that makes you want to leave and go somewhere else...kind of in a cozy, let me read a book and grab my Snuggie. I was tempted to get the lavender infused drink, but after I told the barista (very helpful), that I wanted a few shots of espresso, she said to try the house chai dirty. So I did. Then I headed upstairs to people watch out of the large windows. The prices are market price...usually with a cool coffee shop like this, I'd expect to pay well over $5.50 for a triple shot latte. Good coffee, fast service, nice and helpful baristas, great location. I will definitely be back. Completely recommend the house chai! read more

Great coffee, great staff, the least bourgeois coffee shop on Ballard ave. Until recently, they had the most delicious and affordable breakfast sandwiches, only $4 before 9am. They changed to lesser sammies and jacked the price, hopefully only temporarily, because that was one of the highlights of this place, a great breakfast sandwich. read more

Ordered a soy latte and it was REALLY good, and it's a cute lil spot. It gets busy so it's not the type of place you want to go to if you're in a hurry. The customer service however is kinda eh. The afternoon guy didn't seem too friendly. Oh well. After paying for my coffee I walked over to browse through the cold case and found a sandwich so I came back to the register to make my purchase and the guy charges me for the latte that I already paid for just minutes ago plus my sandwich. I walked in here with high expectations, but was disappointed by the baristas basic lack of sanitary skills. This place needs a visit from the Health Department. Plus she was rude and my drink tasted pretty disgusting. (All milk and no flavor). This isn't a place I'm interested in returning and wouldn't recommend. read more

They serve herkimer coffee, which is a favorite of mine. I sat outside on one of their two small tables. Nice little spot for Ballard people watching. They serve some good coffee here. I tried their ice coffee. It was smooth, nutty, and dark with no weird after taste. What more could I ask for? The employees were very friendly and very hipster looking. They weren't in a rush--even though they had people coming in and out--and they had conversations with the customers. read more

This is a beautiful little shop and while it's not totally unique in its hipsterish feel (Arabica on Cap Hill had a similar 60s mod decor), they took the time to pay attention to detail. It's a cozy little hangout spot, but you will have to fight for space as it becomes more popular . My latte, however, was just slightly better than mediocre. The espresso beans they used aren't complimentary for lattes (kinda bitter, better than Starbucks, not not better than say Vivace or Victrola). read more

While attending Anchored Ship, this hippie like "coffee shop", I experienced horrendous service. Not only did they make my drink incorrectly, but they treated me like I was worthless, and lesser than garbage. The outdoor seating was incredibly uncomfortable, and I even encountered a rat. I've been here probably a half dozen times or so and I must say that I just love it. This is exactly what I expect and envision when imaging a coffee shop in Seattle. It's a cozy little joint in an older building with just what you'd expect from a building like that, creaky doors, small "behind the counter area", tiny little bathroom, toasty warm interior. I don't know it's just a interior that makes you feel as though you're at home; in some comfortable welcoming place at the very least. The coffee and other drinks I've had have always been top notch and the employees are absolutely fantastic. It's been crazy busy times I've been there and slow as a snail at others but I've always had a consistent, welcoming experience. The place is just a down to earth joint, you walk in and you're treated like a friend and not just a fake customer service-y type of friend, a real honest-to-goodness friendly atmosphere. I'll be sure to come back all the time provided I can find parking somewhere near it, but that's not their fault :) read more

I've been underwhelmed with this place in the last year. It seems that the quality of drinks is deteriorating. I am disappointed with their pastries as I preferred the ones they had a few years back - the yummy little GF mini loaves. Now most things are gluten-full and very overpriced. I've moved on to other local coffee shops in light of these changes. read more
