It was a horrible experience, all around seeing her, making several appointments, being charged for showing up when she was supposed to be doing a deep cleaning and didn't do it, recommending me to a terrible oral surgeon, not taking care of any of my more concerning issues. I never leave Yelp reviews, and I am definitely not the type of person to leave negative reviews -- I try to be the type of customer that gives people the benefit of the doubt. However, my experience at Andersonville Dental was really disappointing. My cleaning was super rushed, as other reviewers have also stated. I really didn't feel like I got much attention other than reviewing my X-Rays. I was told that I had 4 cavities and 4 OTHER spots that could be cavities in the near future. I was shocked considering I've been consistently going to the dentist, haven't had a cavity in years, and felt no pain. The entire cleaning process maybe took 10 minutes -- and that is being generous. Not to mention, it felt very aggressive to the point where I was in pain (not just discomfort, which is something I perhaps would expect at the dentist). I left feeling very discouraged and upset. After reading reviews, especially about other customer's having issues with fillings, I decided to see another dentist. I took them the X-Rays and they told me that they didn't see ANY spots that needed to be filled. They even did another set of X-Rays to double check (after I told them I was comfortable with them doing so -- I was skeptical since my initial diagnosis was drastically different). The new dentist sat down with me and walked me through the pictures. He pointed out that there were a few spots that I should keep an eye on, but that filling them would be "aggressive" dentistry at this stage. This was shocking considering I went from 4 (potentially 8!) fillings to none. I would not recommend going to Andersonville Dental. The process was rushed, aggressive, and I felt like they were trying to get me out of the office as fast as possible. I did not feel like my health was a priority. I will say that they got me my X-Rays in an appropriate amount of time, which was appreciated. I have been here twice. My wait last time was 45 minutes past my appointment time. Then the dentist spent 5 minutes scraping my teeth and going over it with the toothpaste. Felt very rushed. I also dont find it professional to call me 'honey'. Very small office with packed waiting room. I wouldnt go here for any major work. For a routine cleaning, I guess it gets the job done. read more

I am so happy with the service from Dr. Shahin and her staff at Andersonville Dental. I totally disagree with the other reviews on here that state they were rushed. My first visit was for a cleaning since I had just relocated to the area, she was the closest dentist and also looked like the cleanest and most professional place around. They took me promptly, who likes sitting in a waiting room for a long time anyways? I dont! The assistant was very nice, did all my xrays, was gentle. Dr. Shahin did an evaluation and assesment and then a cleaning. Although she was busy, I felt she took the time to be clear and answer my questions. I am also very busy at work which obviously means you are great at what you do, since the customers are lining up!!! My second visit was for tooth pain, and she was soooooo nice. She gave me a natural alternative to healing my tooth, instead of saying lets just drill it or replace it. This is unheard of in my experiences! I was floored, she even gave me a free sample of product. Amazing!! This last visit was the follow up, she looked at my tooth and decided to let it heal more. I trust her opinion. She was professional, took her time to explain. i even told her about my Mom's horrific denture experience and she was so kind to offer her advice. I decided to have her replace my old fillings that contain MERCURY!! and put new white filling in. THIS IS WHAT YOU DO PEOPLE!!! its oral hygiene, you do it for shoes, clothes, etc. your mouth is vital to your health. She was soooo gentle and fast, I didnt feel anything. Actually the only thing I was upset about was that during my fillings, her stomach was growling! lol. I felt so bad for her. I work hard and I can see she cares about her patients. She puts herself on hold to work on us! These 1 star reviews on here are ridiculous. Dr. Shahin's staff are pleasant and professional. The office is clean and tidy, and while there is sometimes a short wait, it's never been too ridiculous. My husband and I have come here for several years. Dr. Shahin is very kind and efficient. Her office has up to date equipment but nothing fancy. She is brisk and gets you in and out. She actually does the cleanings, which I like. I have had a few fillings done- they are SO quickly done. No none likes having their teeth drilled, but at least it is over with quickly! When I first came here, I'd had another dentist tell me I had three cavities. Dr. Shahin took Xrays and told me I had only 1 cavity and that the other 1 was too small to worry about, and she didn't even see a third. So she saved me a bunch of money and I appreciate that. This isn't a luxury office- they get you in and out- but I like Dr. Shahin and I appreciate her efficiency. read more

I had been a patient for years. First 2-3 years were good. Then the services seemed inadequate and abbreviated. My cleanings were too quick. I never had a scaling in all of the years I was under the doctor's care. I had a couple of crowns, that were ill fitting (with no prior experience, I thought this was normal). The last time I was referred to a specialists, there was no follow-up by her. I had to ask. The specialist said I had a cavity, but there was no mention of this during my last visit with her. I'm with a new dentist now, and that cavity turned I to a root canal. I am also finally having my scaling, just in the nick of time, we were on our way to a periodontal nightmare. The ill fitting crowns needed to be replaced, there was a lot of decay...an expensive lesson for me. read more

I have been going to see Dr. Shahin for the past 14 years at Andersonville Dental. She is super nice and finds time to get to know her patients. I also brought my daughters here when they were 12 and 13 yrs. old. She treated them as her own! They admired her. She is often booked up several weeks, so you need to plan ahead and make your appointments early. She has done 2 crowns for me and I have not had any issues with those. I've seen Dr. Shahin for more than 15 years, coming in with the worst dental problems imaginable. She is kind, efficient, honest, and will look for the best solution for the individual patients she works with. She's also incredibly skilled - root canals are nearly pain-free, and complicated issues don't scare her one bit. She has occasionally referred me out to specialists, but explains everything to me first, and is very clear in her instructions for care. Dr. Shahin is a true professional, a lovely person and a simply phenomenal dentist. Last time I went, I was in and out, but I overheard the time she took and the gentle way she had with a young child in the next room, and it was heartwarming. She's great. Nope! Will never go here again. Actually I liked this dentist...that is until I received the statement from my insurance company. I was charged $75 for 2 prescriptions. The dentist took no xrays..didn't even put a gown on me. Insurance was billed and my copay was supposed to be 0. So I go to the office with the statement asking for my $$ back. They say no. So I call the insurance company. The receptionist whispers into my phone talking to the insurance co. I don't know what she's telling them. I get the phone back and the insurance co starts explaining...so I just asked outright, "Where does it say that I am to pay $75 for only a prescription without an exam?" The lady on the phone says, "Oh well she didn't tell me that. You will get your refund." What was that all about? And why are you ripping patients off - for a measley $75 - just because we come to you desperate and in pain? read more

I've been a patient of Dr. Shahin for about two years and I've finally had it. Every visit, I wait at least 20-25 minutes before I'm seen, and when I've said something about it the office staff has been rude and snotty. Dr. Shahin is a decent dentist, but as others have noted she is very rush and visits are subsequently very short. She often works on two patients at the same time. If you have any follow up questions about anything, she answers very quickly and doesn't explain things very well (probably because she has another patient waiting in the next room). If you don't mind waiting 30 minutes for a 5 minute cleaning, this is the place for you. I will be finding a new dentist. read more

I went to Andersonville Dental for about two years, seeing Dr. Shahin. I am a person who has been to several dentists in my lifetime and have had a LOT of crowns and root canals done. I agree with several other reviewers. To me the tiny office and tiny exam rooms seemed less than clean. You do not get that antiseptic dentist office smell when you walk back to the dental exam chair. She does always have several patients being seen simultaneously. She does rush through her exams. I would not count on her to catch problems early before they become big problems. I don't think she does thorough gum exams either. I had one crown done which went smoothly, but she did not make any adjustments whatsoever to the crown once it was in place. I've never had that happen. I probably have 18 crowns or more in my mouth. I believe it was only luck that it hasn't given me any problems. When I needed a crown replaced on a front tooth, her assessment was: "Well the color might not match the other teeth exactly, but if you want to try it you can, honey." What? Seriously, crowns cost like $900 to $1500 each. For that much money you aren't going to MAKE SURE the color matches? That was when I decided not to go back. Also I find someone calling me "honey" a little weird. Too bad, because I live across the street from the office. read more

I'm currently looking for a dentist that will fix the teeth that Dr. Shahin worked on. Several times, I questioned the staff about whether I actually needed certain fillings done because I felt no pain. They were not patient or particularly kind and I got scolded that my teeth would get much worse if they weren't fixed. That was the last straw and I stopped going here after that. Strangely, I went from having no pain in several spots to now having regular tooth aches in areas that were worked on. My teeth have also become incredibly temperature sensitive. Dr. Shahin would often work on me and another patient at the same time. She generally seemed hurried. Whenever I went for cleanings they would rush through the process. Overall I think the staff here are very careless and mostly focus on getting the maximum amount of money and thus do unnecessary work that is ultimately harmful. read more

HORRIBLE!!! HORRIBLE!!!! HORRIBLE!!!! This dental office is about quantity NOT quality. How can 1 dentist schedule 3-4 patients at the same time on a daily basis???!!! The waiting area is ALWAYS packed with patients usually waiting 30 minutes past their scheduled appointment time. LOTS of people in the waiting room AND exam rooms just waiting to be seen. Dr. Shahin accepts many various dental plans AND she is fairly inexpensive compared to other dental practices in the area, which is why I'm sure her office is always packed with patients. Consistently overbooked and disorganized! No wonder Dr. Shahin is moves at such a fast pace and often makes you feel rushed! Need I say more??? Okay, I will elaborate... I went to Dr. Shahin for awhile and even referred my parents due to location and availability, but over time I realized Dr. Shahin is ALWAYS overbooked, she is NOT thorough and does NOT take her time. Dr. Shahin seems friendly and will call you "dear" and "honey" and not talk above your head, but I need my dentist to be professional, patient, competent AND ethical, which Dr. Shahin is NOT! Dr. Shahin completely BOTCHED my crown AND she chipped my tooth next to the crown putting it in AND she never informed me of any problems with the crown or the fact that she chipped my tooth. Well, the crown did not fit properly and I ended up with SEVERE toothaches because food got trapped under the poorly fitting crown. YUCK!!! Dr. Shahin even tried to charge me to "fix" the crown, which was her fault AND error! Needless to say, I never returned to her factory AKA office. I usually get a dental exam and cleaning every 6 months (often with different dentists through various deals). The dentist ALWAYS inquires about the crown AND ends up stating that my crown is a really bad job! Uugghhh...tell me something I don't already know! It gets better... Not only do I need a replacement crown that costs $$$$, but now I also need a filling where Dr. Shahin chipped my tooth putting in the crown! Do yourself a favor and go elsewhere. You will save yourself time, money, pain and aggravation! Overbooked, overcrowded, disorganized, rushed and incompetent. Dr. Shahin is very sweet. She's always mindful of her patient's comfort. She and her staff work very swiftly. They've always handled billing and insurance effectively. The location is very clean. Waits can get a little bit long, but not much worse than any other dentist or doctor I've visited. For everything that I like about Andersonville Dental, both my wife and I have observed that the dental work in and of itself is not the best we've ever had. In our experience, we've had smoother fillings and repairs with other dentists. Its not bad, but just not spectacular. read more

Anita is my favorite professional Anything. I first came here 2 years ago when my last dentist moved out of state. Andersonville Dental was on my insurance... etc. The waiting room is really tiny and the rooms aren't as modern as my last dentist. I was hesitant at first but looks are deceiving. This is the first time I have had a Dentist take the time and patience to fix problems that other Dentist's ignored. While having work done, Anita constantly checks in and watches for signs of pain or discomfort. Then she FIXES whatever is causing the problem. She is not your typical Dentist. Seriously. I have recommended her to several people, who are now also very happy with her. This is the first Dr. that I would pay out-of-pocket for if I had to. She is worth every penny. I actually go to 6 month check-ups with her. If that says anything. read more

I went to see Dr. Shahin as a recommendation from a friend who went because of a friend. I was having serious root canal issues and needed a place that wouldnt kill my bank account. My last dentist was great (Floss Dental Salon) but having no insurance made it difficult. So, I decided to try this place. Everyone was so nice. Dr. Shahin was awesome! She was very professional and gave it to me straight. Not a lot of technical crap where I'm trying to decipher exactly what she means. Also, I had to get a root canal done and was able to get it done there. The cost was right on and they are flexible with payments. I also had to have an extraction done there and was pleased. About as pleased as you can be about losing a tooth. I will continue going and will also keep recommending her to my friends who want good dental care from a caring staff for an affordable price. read more

I've visited this place three times to see Anita the dentist. Staff is very basic and not too friendly. Anita always runs 15 to 30 minutes late. The worst is how hurried she appears, working more than two patients at a time. I'm almost 60 and have had many crowns performed. She hurried me out of the office during my crown delivery and after the anesthetic wore off it was so badly measured I could not feel any teeth in my mouth but the crown which now has to be adjusted. I've always left the dds with perfectly fitting crowns never having to return for adjustments, had she spent a few more minutes with me checking my bite this would've never happened. I'm not returning after waiting 15 minutes again past my appointment time. read more

I got full dentures ....and they hurt like hell...after wearing them two days...my gums and inside of my jaw is sore. Never recalled that about my other dentures....as a matter of fact....they didn't hurt at all....I don't know why now. Andersonville dental...I don't know....Dr Shahin SEEMS a friendly sort but cold....I won't be able to wear these things...she is going to have to do something...even the bottom denture does not line up with the top and one top on the top and bottom is a little longer than the other....not happy at all. read more

The past couple years, I've much needed a dentist. After dealing with odd contraptions and a lot of pain in the past, I was hesitant to go back to the dentist. It's amazing how much experiences can change your feelings towards doctor visits. Anita Shanin was absolutely delightful and her staff was sweet and attentive as well. She helped fix my cracked tooth and shaped it. Years of filing from cosmetic dentistry (electric and manually) have left my once-thick teeth weak and chipped. I didn't realize how something so simple as fixing my front teeth would encourage me to smile without hesitation. I've since been getting a few cavities filled and next week some wisdom teeth pulled. The only negative aspect I've experienced is the first day waiting a little longer than I anticipated for my appointment, however this is something everyone has to deal with any time dentist/doctor appointments are involved. In the past couple years, I've been seen by two dentists and the usual handful of hygienists. Everyone in the office, including the receptionist, has a terrific attitude! The atmosphere is very professional, but in a positive "we want to help you take good care of yourself" way, not a creepy "let the professional take over" sort of way. I came here because of an odd tooth ache and because I couldn't remember the last time I had been to a dentist. I called earlier in the day and they fit me in at 5:45pm the same day! They took down all of my dental insurance info and all that stuff was ready to go when I came in. They seated me pretty quickly, took my x-rays and then I waited. Dr. Shahin seemed to be super busy, it was a Friday and during rush-hour, so I was understanding. She finally came to me, looked at my x-rays and said I took care of my teeth. Tooth ache: BAM, nailed the problem in five minutes, GRINDING. She cleaned my teeth, explained to me the process of getting a night-guard and was super nice and gentle. I was in and out in an hour! I WILL BE BACK AND HIGHLY RECOMMEND COMING HERE! read more

What everyone says is right on! Dr. Shahin is a FANTASTIC dentist. I just got different dental insurance and who would have thought of waiting periods for standard xrays, and other things... But I do! Anyways, not yelping about my insurance! LOL Dr. Shahin explained to me what to do to work around this. She took the time to explain to me what needs to be done, etc. Then the night before my Birthday, I broke part of my tooth off and I went in the first thing to get it fixed and they got me right in. She saw how panicked I was, made me feel comfortable and then asked me if I ate yet. I told her no, and actually my BF was making me a Birthday Breakfast. She told me to go eat and come back and enjoy my breakfast. So I ate, came back an hour later and she fit me into her schedule like I was important or something.. I love it! The employees are nice, the dentist is friendly and down to business. I can appreciate that. I unfortunately have found her methods unorthodox and painful. She rests her hand on my eye socket both during cleaning and while filling cavities. I also left with a swollen cheek and a massive bruise after a filling took place. This was created from the pressure of her angled mirror she placed in my mouth throughout the procedure. Furthermore she slipped with her drill and filed off the sharp part of my canine tooth, never bothering to mention to me what she did. My ex rays have never been shown to me and I have no idea if the work conducted was even necessary. I am now on the search for a new dentist. read more

The customer service is shity, i waited an hour an a half to get in that room for my kid's annual cleaning appointment, the "owner" was very unprofessionally awful when she dealt with kids. the kid was crying when she did the cleaning and she said "I am not going to do this, because she is crying" with attitude!!! No matter how many apples you eat a day, you can't keep the dentist...for you may chip a tooth (maybe that trick just works for doctors). Let's be honest, who enjoys going to the dentist?! Um, no one. I had switched jobs and insurance recently after many years of going to a very nice PPO dentist office. When comparing my new job's dental insurance, paying a $5 copay and putting forth next to nothing per paycheck, it figured it was well worth it to pay less and not have a lobby with super modern decor and high-tech televisions. I came across Andersonville Dental on Yelp and decided to bite the bullet and sign up for an HMO dental plan. I made my first visit and had to wait a month to get in. After arriving early to my appointment today, and slowly filling out the paperwork, I watched people in much worse condition (root canals, wisdom teeth, crowns, etc) leaving the office. Luckily, the front desk staff was very friendly, so I continued to wait inside of running out the door. When it was my turn to go in, I had x-rays taken in about two minutes, and then Dr. Shahin greeted me with a smile. She is of Iranian decent, but has been in the US over 20 years. She took her time to go over my paperwork and past medical history. I explained that my teeth are in very good condition, just that my gums are slightly receded and hypersensitive. She provided me cherry-flavored topical Lidocaine and said that if my Sensodyne toothpaste is no longer helping, that she can prescribe a helpful paste to use. She then began cleaning away, while I sat there without pain (minus my jaw being ajar). She complimented me on my teeth many times, including the fact of having no cavities---after all, I do floss once and brush three times a day. I thought to myself, "maybe she is use to seeing those previously mentioned patients with unfortunate teeth." The cleaning was complete in a brief 20 minutes. I believe I made the right decision. I simply paid my copay, filled out a postcard reminder for 6 months, and was on my way. read more

She doesn't floss people's teeth for a cleaning (What's a cleaning for, then?) Being nice counts for a LOT, but it can't cover up for poor quality service. I had to have a wisdom tooth taken out last year. I was told that their surgical dentist only came in once every two weeks and was given a course of antibiotics to take for a week to reduce the infection. I had the tooth pulled fine and was given painkillers to take. Over the next week I experienced severe pain in the hole where the tooth was pulled from and believed that I had got dry socket. I went back a week after the tooth was pulled and saw the resident dentist. I explained the intense pain. She examined the hole and told me that it was "healing up nicely", which I just didn't believe. She gave me more painkillers, which I had told her weren't working. Over the next week the pain intensified, so I went back and saw the floating surgical dentist who had originally pulled the errant tooth. She confirmed that I did indeed have dry socket and dealt with it, again offering me more of the same painkillers that I had told her weren't working. Coming from England and only hearing about the worst side of the American health system, I felt that the pushing of the useless painkillers on me was highly suspect. Whether that is the case or not, I was still left in great pain for longer then necessary due to the resident dentists' insistence that the infected hole in my gum was "healing up nicely". I will not go back to this surgery as I do not trust them to adequately care for my dental hygiene or health. read more
