I agree with the other reviews saying this place tries to squeeze every penny out of you. That was exactly my experience over the past year during several fillings and one cleaning. 1. Fillings: Even after I maxed out my insurance, they kept pushing more fillings. At one point, I came in just to refill one tooth where the previous filling had fallen out. I explicitly told them I only wanted one filling done because my insurance was used up. But after the procedure, they told me they had done two fillings--and now I had to pay more out of pocket. This was not what we agreed on. But of course, the dentist always has the final say and can "explain" their treatment afterward, leaving the patient with no choice. 2. Cleanings: I paid out-of-pocket for a deep cleaning and was told that if I paid in full, the follow-up cleaning in six months would be free. I scheduled the follow-up accordingly. But two months after the cleaning, I received an unexpected bill via email. When I called, they suddenly changed their story--saying the follow-up had to happen within six weeks, not six months. I was never told that before. At this point, I honestly wish I had recorded every conversation just to protect myself. Dental care should be about trust and transparency. Unfortunately, I experienced neither at Lake View Dental Associates. Would not recommend. read more

I had used Lakeview Dental Associates for roughly two years of basic checkups until I needed a filling put in. The dentist drilled so deep for the filling that it hit the nerve - and months later, I experienced severe pain in that tooth. I went to an urgent care clinic on the weekend and they determined that I needed a root canal for the tooth with the filing. Since then I changed dentists permanently - but I recently also found out that they were threatening to send a bill to collections. I called my insurance and found out that Lakeview DA didn't submit their claim for my appointment March 2022 until 2023, after which the claim got denied. I recommend they hire some more backroom staff so they can file these claims in a timely manner. Check their Google reviews - similar late claims and threatening calls with other patients too. Shady and sloppy with their work. Do not recommend. read more

Dr. Wulfsohn and her crew are AMAZING. they are very kind and make sure to let you know what they are going to do before they do it. This feels like the most trauma-informed dentist I have been to. When I was feeling light headed during a filling, she laid me back, gave me air and water to cool me down, and told me to take my time. She provides quality care instead of rushing her patients through like a lot of other money hungry dentists. They also do a great job of being thorough and wholistic with their care at Lakeview Dental and Associates. The first visit they take extensive x-rays, but then they actually take the time to explain what they are seeing (which most dentists don't do). Dr. Wulfsohn also specializes in sleep issues, so she was able to provide me with a take home sleep study and refer me to a sleep doctor, which helped me figure out some of the reasons I haven't been sleeping well. Overall, this is a great practice and Dr. Wulfsohn is an extraordinary dentist. read more

Dr. Scott and his associates are really wonderful people. It's very easy to get in touch for appointments and they really do their best to try to fit you in. I got referred here by my dentist since my mom needed her wisdom tooth remove, I call to make an appointment, gave them all my info and later they call me they had an opening sooner, right the next day, my BIG MISTAKE was assuming they had check my insurance and that i was clear and cover. I go to the appt and when done the lady told us my mom was not within the network so now we have to pay $199 for the consultation!! What a classy way of robbing money. I totally drop the ball by not calling myself to make sure i was within the network, assuming they will do their job is a big mistake in this office. I have gone to this office for several years...and I'm finally cutting the cord. I started out here because it was walking distance, and I just kept going back out of sheer unwillingness to deal with finding a new office, and dealing with figuring out my insurance. I had a ton of dental work done here by both dentists. At first they told me that i had to have over 10 fillings done, which was surprising, to say the least. On the other hand, I had not been to the dentist in 5 years. I got a 2nd opinion, and the 2nd dentist (a trusted dentist back home) confirmed what Dr. Emilfarb told me--I needed a million fillings! They have been working on my teeth for 3 years, and I am happy to say that I am now cavity-free. When I first went to Lakeview Dental Associates about three years ago, some of my teeth were in pretty bad shape because of gum disease. They ached all the time and I was afraid I was going to lose them. But thanks to Dr. Emalfarb, that didn't happen. He scheduled a simple procedure to repair some of the bone loss and set me up on a regular cleaning and evaluation schedule. My teeth improved so much that I was able to straighten them with Invisalign! Now my teeth are healthier, straighter and whiter than they have been in years. Dr. Emalfarb is an excellent dentist. Jennifer, the dental hygienist is fantastic and makes getting a teeth-cleaning easy. Everyone in the office is friendly. I haven't had a single problem since I've been going there. I don't have dental insurance, so pay for everything out-of-pocket and the prices seem reasonable to me. I'm really glad I found Lakeview Dental Associates. read more

I hadn't been into the dentist in years. I've always had a deep disdain for needles, dental work, and the way some dentists make you feel about how you've (not) taken care of your teeth. After having a significant amount of work done here, by the fantastic Dr. Emalfarb and the wonderful hygienist Jennifer, I now feel a bit foolish for waiting so long. They were gentle and helped guide me through my procedures, making me as comfortable as possible. They explained things very well and in a manner that I could understand. There was absolutely no dental "guilt trip" and the suggestions for maintaining my teeth were given in a non-judgemental way. I'm a complete layman with regards to medical technology, but it felt like they were using the best cutting-edge technology available. Prices were very reasonable as well. At the end of the day, I'm sorry that I'm moving out of state, and can only hope I can find a dental office as fantastic as Lakeview Dental! read more

So I have not been to a dentist in 2+ years since I got pregnant and motherhood got in the way. Had an extremely annoying wisdom tooth, and went to dr Spector for an extraction. Turns out it was impacted and had to be taken out; it was causing an infection. He made me feel so comfortable and explained what was going on in my mouth, and today I had the procedure done. I swear, no joke, didn't feel anything, it was over in 30 minutes, and I felt like a new woman. Thank you Dr Spector, Sarah, and Meg, and everyone there. I love you guys, no joke. Dr Emalfarb was great! It was my first time to the dentist in about 2 years. I went because I felt a cavity. When I arrived, the front office staff was very welcoming and friendly. I was taken back to the rooms and work began for the initial exam. X-rays and pictures were taken for my file. The technician was great. Very nice and friendly and gentle. The doctor came in and we discussed what would need to be done throughout. He was very detailed in letting me know what work was needed and what took precedence. He went over what insurance would cover in detail and what all my options were. Very upfront and open about money and insurance questions. Turn out a root canal was needed. Got in a day later to get started. He was extremely good about making sure I was in 0 pain the whole time. He is big on no pain at all. Which is awesome! It was a painless procedure that went smoothly. I would highly recommend this doctor to anyone! After my first visit I can say that I like him more than my family dentist of 26 years. Awesome staff! Awesome doctors! No pain! What more could you ask for in a dentist? Go see them! read more

Appt was for 11:15a, we arrived at 11a to fill out paperwork. At 12:15p, we still haven't been seen! On top of that, there is no parking, so we have to pay for street parking. The girl at the counter first said it would be 15-20m, then she said 5 more mins after 45m had passed!! What's the purpose of making the appts for a set time if the doctor isn't available? Finally in the chair, the doctor chatted us up, seemingly to make things more comfortable but it's was just way too much chatting. He did great extracting my husband's teeth. The wait and cost of 2 teeth isn't worth another visit. As of 6/10/14, I am now changing my review from 2 stars to 1. I received a voicemail today from someone at LakeView Dental Association "not asking" me to remove this review but post it to a diff listing specifically under the dentist, as the dentist we visited is not apart of the association. However, my review does not state the dentist we visited but his name is prominently posted under the LakeView Association signage. Since you all study the social networks so well, please work to improve your service levels to match. Do not call me or anyone else to ask them to alter their review. This review is clearly for your Association and the dentist. If you need to reach out to someone, this social network provides the means to do so. My experience here actually spurred me to join Yelp just to keep other people from making the same mistake I did (having any dental work done here). I made an appointment here after getting a mailer advertising a discount on x-rays, consult, etc. When I got there, thinking I'd get a cleaning, etc. they told me they like to take the x-rays first and consult and then make another appointment for the cleaning. Fine, inconvenient, but not a huge deal. After the x-rays the dentist told me I had three cavities and two that would eventually turn into cavities and that I should have all five filled. This was surprising, as I'd never had a cavity in my 25 yrs. prior, but whatever, he was the doc and I figured he knew what he was doing. We made appointments to have my cleaning and then come in and have the fillings. Next, they told me how much it would all cost- $1,800!!! I went back for my cleaning, which I was then told was not covered on the mailer (although I distinctly remember seeing that it was). Of course, they'd taken the mailer from me so I couldn't reference it. That went smoothly enough. I decided to cancel the fillings, however, because I just couldn't afford it. Well, after going to my old family dentist and getting a second opinion I was told I have absolutely NO CAVITIES! She did say that I had some grooves in my teeth that might look like cavities, but they were nothing that couldn't be kept up on with brushing and flossing. She also said "you do need a cleaning, though." I told her I'd gotten one in the spring (this was around Sept. now) and she looked very surprised. She told me I had substantial calcium build-up and that it looked like I hadn't had a cleaning in a long while. Needless to say, I basically got scammed out of the money it cost me to have a "cleaning" and would have been scammed out of over $1000 more had I gone in for the cleanings I "needed." DO NOT GO TO THIS DENTIST! While they may be very friendly there, they do terrible work and want to charge you for things you don't need. Stay away at all costs! read more

I chose this office when I first moved to Chicago based purely on location and how friendly the staff was when I walked in. I have been to a handful of different dentists in my lifetime, but this is definitely my favorite! The staff (front desk, hygienists, dentists) are all friendly and welcoming, which makes an un-fun experience much more pleasant. I'm sure they make notes, but I always feel special when the hygienist remembers what I do and asks questions about what I've been up to. All the equipment is very sophisticated, so a regular cleaning never takes more than 45 minutes. They have TVs in every room and I have never been left waiting for longer than a minute or two. On top of everyone being incredibly nice, what I LOVE about this office is that they have never once tried to sell me anything! My last dentist would try to sell me everything from teeth whitening to plastic surgery (I was appalled!!), but I love and respect the fact that they have NEVER done that at Lakeview Dental. read more

Jennifer is absolutely the best dental hygienist we've ever had, hands down. Dr. Emalfarb and his assistants at the front desk and in the treatment rooms are always very nice and caring. It's hard to say I like going to the dentist, but I do like going to Lake View Dental. They always treat us with respect and kindness. Meter parking is easy to find. Dr. Emalfarb and his team are the best! They were able to work with me to figure out a good payment plan since I was on a wedding budget and did not have a good dental plan. They also called me to remind me of visits and when I was due for a cleaning, which was super helpful. I had a couple silver fillings that were breaking through and Dr. E fixed them with tooth colored fillings. He was very thorough and did a fantastic job. I recently moved into the loop area and now work in the loop area so I decided to find a dentist in my work building. The staff at Lakeview Dental Associates were prompt in sending my x-rays to the new dentist and it was very much appreciated. I will definitely miss them! read more

I came to Dr. Emalfarb after breaking my front tooth 4 years ago. It was a traumatic experience and I needed a solution with a good cosmetic dentist...and fast. He isn't just good, he's amazing. My only qualm was that I had to go to the lab where my crown was made in the suburbs and being a city gal, I don't have a car. It was a hassle but well worth it. I've had some cavities filled and some cleanings after not having been to the dentist for about 8 years until the front tooth incident. They do great work here. The girls at the front desk are always pleasant and good about calling when there are cancellations to see if you want to come in early. All in all, great experiences. This is by far the best dentist i have ever been to - and i have been to a lot! I came to this practice after some poorly done work completed by another dentist. Dr E fixed it and filled a few cavities. The whole process was excellent. He is funny and incredibly patient. What makes this practice the best though is its staff! I love the two ladies who work the front desk. If you want to be called in case they have a cancelation, they are great about following up. I had been having a lot of trouble with a loose crown that was causing a lot of pain and discomfort for a few weeks. I had gone to see a couple other dentists who either couldn't help or didn't want to help. Finally, I called Lakeview Dental and got in to see Dr. Emalfarb right away who quickly diagnosed and fixed the problem. The dentist was friendly, knowledgeable and understanding of the discomfort I was in. The office staff were great too! My only regret was that I didn't find this place sooner! These people are not doctors but looters. They do not speak to your insurance agency prior to the procedure and will send you a big bill later. They insist on their own set of Xrays and most of the insurance companies have a set frequency to cover your x ray charges. Not only that, they will ask you to see their own consultant for every problem. I had to get my wisdom tooth extracted, I was asked to make an appointment with their oral surgeon and also get another x-ray. Being a dentist myself, I know that there was absolute no need for an oral surgeon as there the tooth was not impacted or not associated with any other anomaly like a cyst etc. PLEASE BE AWAY FROM THEM IF YOU CARE FOR YOUR MONEY read more

Went in for a cleaning and exam. Was told for the first time in my life that I needed not one but EIGHT cavities that needed filling. After getting a quote of $780, I decided to get a second opinion. Immediately after my first visit to Lakeview Dental, I thought that I had had a great experience. However, I was soon told that I had over 6 cavities (even though a short 5 months prior I had none) and that they all needed filled asap! Things started to seem sketchy when I contacted my insurance it had gotten quotes from them for over 10,000 dollars of work that they said that I needed.... I've always had pristine teeth, brush twice a day, floss every day, and do a fluoride rinse every night... What really put me over the edge, though, is when I had an allergic reaction to the numbing agent that they were using, almost fainted and had an asthma attack, and called the office to let them know. The following day I received a call back telling me that I would need to take precautions for my next visit as they would be using the same numbing agent on me as it was highly unlikely that I had actually had an allergic reaction to it, as so few people do. I know when I'm having an allergic reaction, as does my allergist (who I had to go see on an emergency basis). I informed Lakeview Dental that I would not be returning and that I found their billing practices dishonest (this was my first big solo dentist trip out in the real world like an adult). I payed them over 500 dollars out of my own pocket in addition to what they billed insurance, which almost maxed out my coverage for the year. I was told that I was paying for "premium" dental services, and when I suggested that they inform people of that before they agree to the services, I was told that they would "think about it". Yeah, right. I was informed that I was done paying my bills, but a month later I got ANOTHER one in the mail for an additional 100 dollars! When I called and complained, once again explaining that I had payed over 500 dollars already, had an allergic reaction, had to pay for an emergency doctors visit, had been told that I was completely done paying for all the bogus work that I had had done, etc., I was informed that I needed to pay this 100 dollars, no other options. So I did. And then I told whoever I was on the phone with that I never wanted to hear from them ever again and I felt extremely taken advantage of. They called again two months later to try to get me to set up an appointment. Ha, no. I've been to many dentists in my years. None of them have swindled me to the amount that Lakeview Dental did. I have had cavities filled here (in the suburbs) for a cost of 20 dollars out of my own pocket, as they aren't charging "premium" prices. My advice? Look elsewhere unless to you obvious disregard for patient health, safety, and pocketbooks isn't a deterrent. read more

This place has the best staff. From the front desk to the specialists here your teeth are in good hands. Nicest staff I've met and they make you feel extremely comfortable. Dr Scott Emalfarb was great! He and his assistant Christina kept me at ease and made it the best experience at a dentist I've ever had. They suggested their dental hygienist Jennifer Grimm and I was pleasantly surprised that her service was the same if not better. She made me completely comfortable with the entire procedure. Overall I've had an OK experience. The dentists are very nice, explain everything before they do it, and make sure that you are comfortable in every way. Front desk staff are great. However, their techs and assistants act like their you know what doesn't stink and have a general bad attitude about everything. I've been coming to Dr. Emalfarb since I moved to Chicago in 2005 and I don't plan on switching any time soon! Everyone in the office is so kind- from the front desk staff to the hygienists to the doctors! They take care to make sure I'm comfortable, they keep my teeth & gums in great shape and they have an online system that allows you to confirm your appointments without even answering your phone! I read the other comments about pricing and I'm not 100% certain about that as I've always had insurance when I've gotten my cleanings, but I will say that they found a way for me to get 4 cleanings a year on my insurance plan, which I think is excellent! read more

Switched my kids here from previous dentist and my daughter's teeth had been mishandled by old dentist. A year later her smile is beautiful and her teeth are cavity free. This place is the best! Dr. E is amazing...just an all-around great guy who is great at what he does. I came across this practice by accident (I thought I was calling another place with a similar name), but it was the best mistake ever. I had to have some pretty extensive work done and he made the experience completely painless. Since then, I've been back for multiple cleanings by the hygienist Jennifer who makes it feel more like a trip to the spa with a friend, than a trip to the dentist. She's incredibly thorough and knowledgable...and so fun to hang out with. And the front desk team is amazing too! They will not let you forget that it's time for your cleaning...which I greatly appreciate!
