Had Nico's bookmarked for a while and finally got the chance to check it out. The space isn't very big, with only a handful of seats at the bar, but don't let that fool you! It definitely has a great energy. Ordered the Lavender Fields Forever x3 and I'm glad that it wasn't overly sweet. I'm not into sugary cocktails, and this one had a nice balance that kept me going back for more. For food, we ordered: Gnocchi - really flavorful and honestly could pass as an entrée portion Roasted Artichoke Heart - light, fresh, and a great contrast to the heavier dishes King Salmon - perfectly pan-seared with a lightly crisp exterior and well-seasoned throughout Bone-in pork chop - my boyfriend ordered this and described as super comforting and satisfying. Funny enough, we ran into friends right as we were walking in. They were headed somewhere else nearby, but we convinced them to come back and join us for dessert. We ended up sharing the Chocolate Budino and Lemon Cheesecake--and while the budino was rich and silky, the cheesecake completely stole the show. Overall, great experience. TL;DR Food cooked well and good service, but ingredients and flavor could be better. Food I got the chilean sea bass with saffron risotto. The cook on the fish was good. It was flakey, juicy, and crisp on the outside, but I felt the fish tasted fishy. The cook on the risotto was good as well, but I felt I wanted more flavors. The asparagus and broccoli were crisped and seasoned with salt and pepper. Service and Ambiance The service was nice. The server let me enjoy my food and was professional. Very nice music. read more

Came to Nico's as it was my friend's birthday dinner and she wanted all of us to come to Long Beach! Ordered the Gnocchi, Calamari, and Truffle Mushroom Arancini as starters, the House Salad and Caesar Salad as salads, and the Lobster Linguine, Tomahawk Rib Eye, Chilean Sea Bass, Pork Rib Chop, and Seafood Risotto as entrées. All the starters were solid, but the Truffle Mushroom Arancini stood out the most. Absolutely massive arancini with a great sauce! The salads were solid and came with an absolutely massive portion. All the entrées were insanely good. If I had to pick up a favorite, it was the Lobster Linguine. But honestly, everything was a hit! Also ordered the Cinnamon Roll Bread Pudding, Lemon Cheesecake, and Tiramisu as desserts. Definitely liked the cheesecake the most! Service is great here. Really friendly and accommodating, especially since we had a large party. Food came out super quick, we were doing our best to finish off everything so that we had room on our table! Parking here is an absolute nightmare as it is all street parking with no valet parking. If it's a busy night, you might be parking a few blocks away. Definitely not the best situation. Ambience is very nice and cozy in here. Definitely gives off the vibe that it's a local neighborhood spot that serves great food. Overall, Nico's really took me by surprise! The only con to this place is parking! Street parking is available just make sure to read the signs. There's 4-5 parking spaces in a garage but can easily be missed. We enjoyed a lovely dinner here on a Monday evening. Cameron was our server and he was great. Started off with calamari and crispy spinach. I've never had crispy spinach before and I thought it was the best thing ever. Also had their gnocchi which according to Cameron, Nico's has served for over 20 years. It's filling and so flavorful with mushrooms topped with truffle oil. They serve different soups daily so for that evening, we tried the poblano soup. This soup, needs its own paragraph. The poblano soup at Nico's is so good, it's probably one of the best soups I've had. Shredded chicken, corn, cheese, and diced poblanos makes for a thick, hearty, and perfect soup. Not too spicy at all. It's filling and will leave you wanting for more. The chef takes his time roasting the poblanos and you can tell that this soup is a labor of love. For our entrees, we tried their lobster linguine and surf and turf that came with mashed potatoes, Chinese broccoli, lobster tail, and filet mignon. Everything was delicious, especially the mashed potatoes. The restaurant is not that big, there's a back area which can accommodate a larger party otherwise there's tables of 2-6 that line one side of the place. In the middle is their bar area which the locals love hanging out around. The service here is excellent. We will be back again. read more

I wrote a glowing review a couple of years ago where I raved about how wonderfully dishes were executed here. I won't retract it, because it was special then, but now is a different story. We came on a Tuesday night hoping for a mellow scene but the bar was as loud and lively as ever - it was the Cinco de Mayo and our hope was that the party was elsewhere. I had the Chilean Sea Bass which presented with a gluey brown sauce on top of an overcooked piece of fish on top of dingy risotto. The vegetables were basic and flavorless. We had some of the holiday-inspired specials which were uninspired. It can't be the same chef. The margaritas were excellent, so come for the bar, if that's your scene. read more

Came here for our anniversary and we were very impressed. Our server, JESSE, was top notch, made our night, and was very courteous and attentive the entire meal. Went back here to where my kid and I like to hang out for lunch during in elementary school time and COVID period. We love this place a lot since it's convenient from the neighborhood and great foods. It's very cozy and romantic place before COVID and glad to see them went back to it. They do have open doors/windows on the bar side with high tables/chairs overlook the small parking lot. Dinning room is on the other side and with dark ambiance decors/walls and lite up at light, it is very romantic. Service is good, but sometime can be forgetful. Great foods, packed of great quality of meat and favor. Cocktails are will skillful make. Still a great place for great drinks and foods with friends or family. As for parking, street parkings...you might have to park a block away and walk over but it's a good way to build up an appetizer. read more

Bread pudding dessert was excellent. Lots of tables for two and fairly close together. It was very vibrant atmosphere. That said, it is noisy in downstairs area. There is an upstairs we did not see. This is a regular spot for my husband and I when we are restaurant/bar hopping down Second Street on a Saturday afternoon. It's a great local spot with a cozy atmosphere, great drinks and good (albeit not mind blowing, but good) food. We usually sit at the bar as we look forward to being waited on by Celeste, an amazing bartender who is a pleasure to chat with as well. She makes fantastic espresso martinis (with freshly made espresso!) and is very accommodating to any cocktail or mocktail you can think of. While their bar area is small, the restaurant itself has a few different seating areas that are perfect for groups large or small, or just an intimate one-on-one date night. On this visit, they happened to have a seasonal holiday cocktail menu, which I love because it offers festive, creative options you wouldn't normally get with their regular beverage program. As always, they have a great wine list, by the glass and by the bottle. I love that the bar is just busy enough to have some energy but never too crowded during this time of day, and that they are open for lunch so I have a cozy place to take work clients that has a variety of food items. Parking can be a little challenging, there is a small lot and street parking but it can fill up fast. Not worth the price, especially when you have reservations far in advance and they sit you at a bar. Again, something you can read about it many reviews. This is a fairly upscale restaurant with a very nice bar areas to hang out at. Seems to be flooded with locals and it has a very nice vibe to it. The food is pretty ok and the wine is overpriced. I assume as they only have nicer wines to choose from. I will definitely come back here to either eat something or to just enjoy a glass of wine. Having heard about this place for so long, I was anxious to treat my friend to dinner. The restaurant is attractive, but tables are small and placed closely together; both of us knew it was going to be too noisy. Staff is pleasant and prompt. Our wine choices were lovely. We decided to just share calamari and go elsewhere for a more peaceful dinner. The best thing about the calamari was that it was served on a bed of fried spinach leaves. I went in during happy hour with a group of friends. For table dining you need to make reservations. For happy hour you can sit at a high top table or the bar. The high tops are designed to seat two. Since there were four of us we pulled the tables close to sit together. The restaurant is small and the bar area limited in space. This is a date night place, especially for happy hour. Soft lighting and intimate seating. Parking is available on the residential side streets. Food was really good (especially the french fries). I have to point out the ambiance it is a little rustic and needs a major remodel Service was okay, We started with a couple of appetizers Roasted Garlic, and Calamari, I ordered a Beet Salad, starters were all good. On special days such as Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve and you make a reservation (well in advance and they make you confirm) **I made reservations at New Year's Eve and Christmas Eve (today) and now they seem to think it's okay to seat you at a high top table in bar w STOOLS. I must say that something I never expected! This will be my last time coming here. I suggest - if you're going to come here find out ahead of time what kind of seating arrangements you're going to get -as I never would've come here if it was a high top. We went for my birthday because my daughter recommended it. My son and one of my daughters ended up with diarrhea. The had the filet mignon, which by the way they said the sauce for the meat was not good and they also share the pasta with sausage. My daughter call to let you know and not even a call back. I had the lobster linguini. Flavor was ok but had more bacon lardons that lobster. I had some leftover and tried eating it the next day and it was so greasy that was hard as a rock. What a great night! Took a first date and had a first class experience. The food is great! Try the seafood risotto. My date had the sea bass best she ever had. Their cocktails were splendid, our bartenders were so much fun, the food was out of this world (flatbread plus their gnocchi OMG)!! I love how it has an upscale but not stuffy ambiance. I can honestly say that the pork chop is the best I have ever had and my wife's is the salmon. I had to ask for everything including to have the bar top cleaned in front of me. Bartender got the food order partially wrong, never came back to check if everything was good after food was served. I am giving Nico's 2 stars because the food was good, not great, and the portions were on the small side. The overall experience was not particularly good and I will not be returning. We went to celebrate a family birthday, all adults, so cocktails were definitely in order. Unfortunately, they were a disappointment. They did not have the basic ingredients for some of the drinks on their menu and when my mother settled on an old fashioned the server, who was also the bartender, told us it was her specialty and she was in for a treat. It was not very good at all, tasted like straight alcohol, in fact none of the other drinks were particularly good. A second round was not ordered :( When it came time to order the meal, again, some items were not available. Including what the birthday boy was going to order. We had the Roasted Garlic appetizer which was very good, actually the best item of the day. I had the Jumbo Sea Scallops w/ risotto which was good but the 3 scallops weren't very jumbo. The Flat Iron Steak was also 'undersized' but tasty and the Bistro Burger was an average restaurant burger. Everything was good but not great and a little overpriced for what you get. Dessert time... Did they offer the customary birthday scoop of ice cream? No. So, we were looking at the dessert menu and asked the server if they had affogato (vanilla ice cream w/ espresso poured over) she said yes that it was wonderful here and one of her personal favorites. Then in the next breath said "oh, no we don't have any espresso. We haven't seen the coffee guy in a while". We settled on a creme brulee and bread pudding for the table and called it a day. The service was meh, the server/bartender was too friendly to some people at the table and ignored others. When complemented on her tattoos she pulled up her skirt to show the one on her upper thigh and she explained that one was the result of peer pressure. Just too much over share.
