A few days ago I brought a wig I had purchased from the American Cancer Society website to this shop and Andrew DiSimone willingly accommodated me. First he gave me a skull cap and brow band for free and then he instructed me on the proper way to place the wig on my head. I was interested in having the wig thinned and he did this for me, without sacrificing any of the length. On the contrary Andrew's wig cost me $5000. So if I buy the comb and wig shampoo, let's generously calculate $20. I still think $5k for a defective wig they won't take back is a lot. read more

This place is wonderful. I am a young mother who is losing her hair while undergoing chemotherapy. I have cried for a week knowing it was time to shave my head. I met Andrew DiSimone and his stylist Shanta at the American Cancer Society where they volunteer their time and talents to cut and manicure wigs for cancer patients. I was diagnosed with breast cancer and when I found out that I would be having the chemo that causes hair loss, of course, I flipped the f out. So I signed up for the program at the ACS to get a wig made for me. When I met Andrew, he flew in with the energy of a lightening bolt. Fresh and fun and ready for anything. I loved him immediately. He handed me a wig that was an ash brown in color. I asked politely if I could possibly have an auburn wig as that was what I was used to with my real hair. He leaned toward me and with a wry smile said take this one, it's real hair (not synthetic) and you will bring it to my salon and I will have it cut and colored to my liking. He said that Shanta could be my stylist. I was so grateful for his generosity and of course said yes immediately. I brought my wig in and Shanta was so absolutely lovely. I showed her pictures of my usual hair and she said of course she could make that color happen. She asked if I could come in the next day for the hair cut. I came in with my best friend Holly the next day and everyone in the salon is so wonderful. We were taken care of beautifully. Nan, the salon manager is such a delightful person. Very accommodating. Shanta took her time to make every detail of the wig perfect. Never any rush. True artistry. When we were done I saw myself in the mirror again. My mom loss her hair due to medical reasons and did not have the confidence to go outside and see people. I brought her to Andrew's salon to pick out a wig. We had a wonderful experience. Andrew and his staff were very friendly, helpful, patient, and not pushy. I felt like he honestly wanted to help my mom feel good about herself. He showed us the difference between synthetic and real hair wigs, and he even gave us the option to meet him at American Cancer Society for a free wig if we wanted to. Because my mom usually has a short hairstyle, he suggested we should stick to a synthetic wig, which is three times less expensive than a real hair wig. He showed us the options and gave us time to choose. He was not pushy at all. When we picked up the wig, he showed us how to put it on and how to maintain the wig. My mom put on her new wig and I finally saw a smile on a face. We are happy with our purchase and the service at the salon. We would highly recommend this salon to anyone who needs a wig. I originally went to another salon, Rodolfo Valentin's, and I had the exact opposite experience. He didnt give me any options to choose from. I was more excited about my human hair wig than my first post-radiation positive scan! Andrew and his staff was so kind and compassionate, and they made me feel relaxed and comfortable. I suffer from female pattern baldness compounded by having weight loss surgery in 2011. I have very thin hair on the crown and diffuse thinning. I started wearing a human hair "topper" in October 2011 to blend in with my own hair and conceal my very sparse haired crown. I was looking for a synthetic topper to wear when the weather is rainy, hot and humid - because human hair frizzes! I did research and found Andrew DiSimone at HairPlaceNYC. First of all everyone who works there is very friendly. I was immediately put at ease and knew I was in the right place. Tenzin, my stylist, was great and very helpful. She found me a synthetic topper in the exact shade of Auburn. When it arrived she thinned it out so it looked like my own hair. It's nice to know that there are still wonderful people in the world, and two of them, Andrew and Trinita, work at HairPLaceNYC! I was recently diagnosed with a severe case of Telogen Effluvium, and after weeks of losing clumps of hair, I started researching my options. I read excellent reviews about HairPLaceNYC / Andrew Simone Wigs, and I decided to wander in since the salon was located in my neighborhood. Andrew met me at the door and he listened with compassion as I explained my situation. He kept hugging me and proceeded to explain different options; lace front wigs with real human hear, vs. synthetic wigs with graft technology, etc. He even mentioned options at other salons in the city. Andrew was incredibly honest and forthright and I felt he really cared more about people than just making a sale. Andrew chose a wig in stock that was very close to my hair color, and Trinita worked with me, showing me how to put the cap and band on to secure the wig. Trinita styled and cut bangs into the wig and reviewed the care instructions with me. She even cut a few inches off my own hair in order to create the volume needed to cover my bald patches. We discussed hair coloring and she advised me to use natural products. I was very impressed with Trinita's knowledge and professionalism. I wanted to write this review months ago, but I was in treatment for chemo and was not feeling very well. Andrew has been so incredible helpful since I first went to the Cancer Society for a free wig. He helped me choosing one that would look like me. He gave me lots of tips on how to wear it, style it, clean it...but the best thing was that he offered to do a halo with my natural hair. He had me come into his salon to convert my wonderful long hair into a halo. When I first walked into his salon I felt very welcoming and the also have individual booths where you have privacy. There I met Ana. She was in charge to do my halo. She was so incredibly nice. I felt so good when she was cutting my long hair. After a month my halo was ready. It is one of the most important moments I will always remember, when I put on my halo. I started crying since I recognized myself again in the mirror.
