It was $5, which is a so-so price given it contains ice and the cup is decent sized but not gigantic, but the tea is pretty good nonetheless. The chicken curry was already made and packaged by the time I arrived at the Saturday downtown berkeley farmer's market, so it took all of 2 seconds to get this tasty meal. They actually sold out of almost every other menu item towards the end of the farmer's market so come earlier than I did if you want options! The curry was very different from the thai curries I've grown accustomed to in the area - it was much more savory and thick - in an amazing way. In fact, I wish there were more thai restaurants that served curry like this in the area so I wouldn't have to wait for the farmer's market to get more. My only complaint is that the rice at the bottom of my pre-made chicken curry was overcooked and stuck together in big, brown clumps. I think this could've been an issue from the end-of-day timing where the rice was sitting around. Nonetheless, it was not pleasant eating rice cakes instead of rice when I was expecting the latter. First time trying this place & I had a good experience. Although the curry was on the sweet side, it was fresh & flavorful! The dish could have used more spices but the rice and chicken were tender. I was confused because the person behind me got helped and put their orders in before me. I understand that he was a regular since they knew each other in first name basis, but it doesn't mean that I get treated differently. I had an experience here that makes me bristle to this day. Unfortunately, it has nothing to do with the food. I was at the Berkeley market waiting in line. It was a long, long line. My husband had ordered a skewer and was eating it. Why take a bite of his when I can get my own, so I got in line. I waited a good, long time. And when it was my turn, Andy refused to even talk to me. He was getting food for other people because they had a lot of orders and Cindy was preparing stuff in the back. That's why I waited for 15 minutes. He didn't acknowledge me, say I'll be with you in 15 minutes, nothing. This was mid market so it wasn't towards the end. But there was nothing. At one point he was stirring something in a pot and I said, "excuse me," and he exploded. I'm southern, so I know that it was the nice southern "excuse me" that I grew up with and we're known for. I was flustered and just said, "I guess you don't want my money and walked off." I went to the booth next door and got a dosa. It was amazingly good. That became my go to. The woman was nice, warm and over the years, if she was backed up and had a lot of customers in front of her, she'd say something like, I'll be right with you. At one point she had four burners going with Dosa's and she came over to take my order and apologized. I told her that there was no need to apologize and assured her that I would wait. After finishing her orders, she came back over and took my order and thanked me for waiting. I said, "No problem." She gave me a little something extra for waiting. That's how you treat and show respect for someone who is waiting. But I vowed never to go back to them. I told my husband that they probably don't like black people (never saw any in line). It was a Saturday bright afternoon when my friends and I decided to hit the Berkeley Farmers' Market for the first time. I've been anticipating the visit to Andy and Cindy's Thai Cuisine food stand for quite a while now. So I was quite delighted to see that upon entering the market, it was the 2nd stand that I saw! The location of this truck is placed delightfully by the entrance on Marten Luther King. There was a long looong line stretching from one side of the market to an opposite booth. However, the wait was only about 5-10 mins which isn't that bad for the quality of food that was being served. The wait was even shorter seeing and conversing with the nice Berkeleyans visiting the Farmers' Market that afternoon also. We all eye-groped the food that passerbys were walking around with. I got the much-recommended Red Snapper. You know it's good when anywhere you walk, people working at stands and people buying from them ask where your food is from or if they KNOW it's Andy and Cindy's. The fish....AMAZINGGGG, super moist, super flavorful, super warm, super aromatic, super super super. The presentation was nice also, being from a street vendor and all. The fish was steam wrapped in a banana leaf strategically arranged to make small bowl keeping the fish moist. There's a nice surprise underneath the fish of succulent squash and zucchini slices. It is nicely plated with some rice (awesome local brown rice or yellow curry rice made on the spot) and a small salad with a nice sesame oil dressing. Quite quite filling. For 8.50 bucks of glorious healthy heaven, so worth it, heyyyy :) read more

This is one of the booths available at Berkeley's Farmer's Market (Sat & Tue only). My friends ordered the steamed red snapper with basmati rice & carrot salad for $7.50, free-range chicken curry with basmati rice plus veggies, and the chicken satay (2 skewers) with peanut sauce, basmati rice & carrot salad, both at $7 each. Their plates looked good. And they all told me that their food tasted good too. I've tried the chicken satay in the past, so this time I ordered the soy protein (also available w/chicken) egg rolls for $4.50, and the Thai ice tea for $2. The egg rolls were good, the Thai ice tea was slightly sweeter than normal but still okay. In general the food is good and consistent, so it's worth a return trip. CASH only. read more

This place is overrated. I ordered the vegetarian spring rolls, which come with two helpings of a mild sauce and some yummy peanut sauce. The spring rolls themselves taste really plain. Too plan. Two stars. The only hint of any flavor in the spring rolls comes from the mint leaves. Otherwise, the combination of mushrooms, noodles, and whatever other vegetables inside do not produce anything resembling the taste of a 5-star meal. I was wandering around the farmer's market one Tuesday looking to buy lunch. I decided to give this stand a try. I ordered the chicken curry, which came out better than expected. I guess my expectations were low just because it was a food stand at a farmer's market instead of a sit down restaurant. I haven't tried anything else here, but given that I liked their curry, I will be back to try something else. Curry, rice, and a side salad was $8. The only semi complaint is that when you order it to go, they put the rice and curry in one Chinese take out box. The way they package it, it's meant to be eaten right away. When I lived in Berkeley I would eat here EVERY week at the Tuesday Farmer's market. I totally love the two of them and they always feed you right. If you hang around their tent, you'll realize they have a thoroughly devoted following and they really treat you well The steamed fish is really good as well as the chicken curry though you can't go wrong with anything else you get there either! Before I moved out to Houston, I mentioned that I was going to be leaving a couple weeks later. For my very last visit before departing, they surprised me with a specially prepared Duck plate that they knew I wanted to try but never had the chance to (they would only cook it rarely). Yums! I was taking a stroll through the farmer's market, hoping to just find something fresh to snack on. There weren't too many cooked food stands, so I went to Andy and Cindy's -- not expecting too much. But whoa! Such great great flavors! I got the combo of veggie/chicken curry with a skewer of chicken satay. Best chicken satay ever -- it's so dry at other places, but here it was incredibly tender and tasty. The curry was rich, and nice and mildly spiced the way I like it. I also loved that they had the brown rice option -- although I'm tempted to try the yellow rice next time. They were super nice, and really taking the time to converse with their customers and be friendly and welcoming. If we can't get a restaurant going, can we please have a food truck?? Hungry at the farmers market? Cindy/Andy Thai food is where it's at!! All their meat and fish dishes are organic or free range (something that's actually hard to find at the market). And if you've ever had their snapper with Thai curry in a banana leaf, it's to DIE FOR!!! Wash it down with Thai ice tea and fresh hand-rolled Lumpia rolls. Ok I'm pretty biased for this review. I worked at farmer's markets for 5 years and have worked a couple of times at andy & cindy's stand in berkeley selling their delicious food. Not only is their food fresh and fantastic, they are also 2 of the nicest people! I highly recommend everything at this stand. Surprised to see any complaints here at all. I would rather eat at Andy & Cindy's than anywhere else --I've eaten at 100's of bay area restaurants, from Cactus to Gordo's, the Cheese Board to the Wood Tavern, to Olivetti's, but when I want Thai food, or just flavorful, incredibly mouth-watering good food, I head to the farmer's market on Tuesday in South Berkeley. The chicken curry is delicious, with tender chicken, vegetables and amazing sauce. I usually get the tofu curry, and it never fails to please, with brown rice and a salad on the side. Their Red Snapper is great too! I often take home some, for kids and next day, it is that good! read more

Love love love Andy & Cindy's! I would like to say this is my favorite thai restaurant in Berkeley. Number of thai restaurants : number of good thai restaurants ratio in Berkeley is pretty low.... I would say 2%... haha Anyways, get to the point. Everything is good here! I especially like the Satay and Curry combo. You get chicken curry, vegetable curry, and chicken satay on a skewer with yummy peanut sauce, and last but not least their yellow rice (I don't know the real name of this rice... but Andy calls it yellow haha). The curry has a very fresh yet deep flavor to it and I love the kabocha squash in their curry... I have never had any thai curry that tastes like this and I would like to say this is one of my favorite curry! Yum yum yum! (I have to say though, it is not the regular coconut based green/red curry that you get from thai restaurants) Also, the fish in the banana leaf everyone is raving about, lives up to its name. Real soft and flavorful, melts in your mouth. I think they brew an authentic thai tea which is good also. Sitting in the sun on a beautiful Saturday afternoon having food from Andy&Cindy's... makes me feel like life cannot be better! :D Oh, I almost forgot! I tried the Red Snapper, Veggie Curry and Chicken Satay. It's very well cooked-the texture is perfect, and the dishes don't make me fear for my health. The food is clearly fresh and very healthy, which is a big plus-but it's just not that flavorful. I was all hyped up to try this place after reading reviews on yelp. I had the snapper and chicken satay/veggie curry, and I thought it was overrated...it was such a *healthy* taste. I liked chicken satay, and the snapper was very fresh, but I was not crazy about how they were spiced. I guess this is what happens when you go super healthy and stay away from everything that is supposedly bad for our body, including salt. I can't believe I'm the first to review this amazing stand (and I hope I got their name right!) I showed up late to the farmer's market, and was super excited about trying some yak dumplings from the Himalayan stand, but they were all out. So I took a gander with the Thai stand one stall over. And WOW was I glad I did! Being the end of the market, my steaming plate of banana-leaf steamed red snapper was only $6, instead of the usual $7.50. Either way, it's an amazing bargain. They were also out of the carrot salad, which I guess goes with the red snapper usually. But I can't imagine anything could have been more delicious than the vegetable curry they substituted--rich red curried pumpkin, butternut squash, and other vegetables. The red snapper was perfectly firm, moist, and flavorful--SO SO SO GOOD!!! Sitting alone on one of the tables as the vendors all packed up and left, I found myself looking around desperately for someone to talk to about how amazing my food was. It was that good! One of the best meals I can remember in forever. I know I still want to try the yak dumplings some time, but it will be very, very hard for me to resist this dish the next time I'm in Berkeley on a Saturday. i have been going to this stand ever since i first laid eyes on it early last year. the organic chicken eggrolls are the best eggrolls i have ever tasted in my life! i think it is the cilantro that adds the special kick, and i dont even like cilantro. when i first started to frequent the stand i bought the eggrolls, tried the satay and ate the curry, but i paid close attention to what the people ahead of me were ordering. Everyone was ordering the spicy red snapper, so eventually I ordered it too. It was a choice i have never regretted. Spicy and just the right amount of salty, laid atop asparagus or green beans, wrapped in a bananna leaf and steamed to perfection with a dolop of coconut milk in the center. i almost cried i was so happy. later i had finally worked up the courage to try their fresh summer rolls only to find out they were seasonal. stuffed with bean sprouts and jicama and smothered in peanut and sweet chilli sauce, when they came back i was not disappointed by their fresh crunchy goodness. i've been going there about a year and have only missed two saturdays. the stand can also be found on sunday the the temescal farmers market and on tuesdays at the (parker street?) farmers market near iceland. andy and cindy are also avalible for catering and are scoping out locations for their own resturant. but dont wait! experience the food in the sunny open air while you can. read more

I got the red snapper plate at the farmer's market on Saturday, after asking what they would recommend. It was extremely boring - the only yummy part was the tiny, flavorful lump of vegetables in the bottom of the leaf wrap. The fish was very bland; I wish it had some aroma or spice, but only the vegetables did. It comes with a tiny amount of salad (sesame dressing optional) and a huge pile of bland rice. :( If I ordered here again, it would have to be a curry - I'm sure that would come with real flavor. On a cold day, nothing is better than some spicy red snapper or some curry to warm you up. They're the sweet power couple. Their food is delightful and the service is always top notch even when the line is endless. I agree that the red snapper is delicious, but so is the chicken satay and their curry. The peanut sauce is a must if you have a sweet tooth like me. It's not too sweet, but it definitely adds a good balance to anything with a bit of spice. Whenever I'm craving Thai food, I go to BFM and stand in line @ Andy & Cindy's stand. This would be 5 stars if they gave you more food, but despite that, the red snapper really is as good as everyone says it is. I had the red snapper entree on Saturday at the Farmers' Market and it was yummo. The brown rice seemed very high quality and organic and the fish was steamed in a banana leaf that left the fish moist and yummy.
