Poooooor service. Ok food. First off, when my daughter and I walked in to the small one room eating area, we were told to wait to be seated even though there were 3 booths clearly available. We were then only seated after two other customers came in. Which turned out to be BS because customers came in and sat down wherever they wanted. Also, the "waitress" took the order of the customers that came in after us first. Lastly, we were not waited on and sat and sat and sat (no exaggeration) and finally got up and walked to the register to pay because we were never even given the bill. Overcharged with missing toast... I wanted to like this place because it's not far from my home and I liked the classic coffee shop decor, but I was overcharged about $10 plus they forgot to mug in toast with my breakfast order. I called to let them know and the lady told me that they were busy right now and that she would look into this later and call back. It's a diner. Don't get why some people are upset that a diner is not fancy and new. I find a little history to be what makes a diner desirable. This place felt genuine and while it does have the history to be nostalgic, it's not trying to be. They have eggs, bacon, toast, etc in any combo you want and endless cup of coffee. I was looking for a a nice breakfast place while I was getting a car appointment and I walked to this spot which was close by. While I only got toast and orange juice as they didn't have many healthy options, the OJ was expired and I can't really say the service was horrible as they just didn't come back to my table again for service. I sat there for 50 mins, almost an hour trying to grab my servers attention. While he was obviously avoiding me for the inconvenience off sending a untouched black coffee that they did not have alternative milk options for, which I was told they had both oat and almond milk for substitute. After the solid wait time I decided to walk up to an employee to try and settle my tab, I was meet with more silent attitude. Definitely would not recommend, servers need a lesson in hospitality. read more

Saturday morning, exercise finished, bf and I wanted some delicious breakfast. He was really in the mood for "diner" like food..as well as the ambiance. Andy's Coffee Shop had some amazing ratings and reviews! The inside is definitely a straight up diner. Loved the pictures that are hanging on the walls, and I loved the customer service. As we walked in, we were immediately greeted and seated. We were asked if we would like some coffee, and I took on the offer. Basic coffee, but good stuff nonetheless! We ordered: Me Andy's Breakfast: 3 old fashioned buttermilk pancakes, served with 3 eggs, choice of bacon, ham, or sausage $9.95 -YUMMY! The pancakes were fluffy..a little dry, and they soak up that syrup like a sponge..but some goood pancakes! Got my eggs over-easy..they were good. And they made my bacon crispy..just how I like it! I wasn't really a fan of getting a bottle of Aunt Jemima with the closing lid taken off. If they have nothing to close it with..that means a lot of stuff is going inside the bottle. Kind of grossed me out, but whatever. Not to mention that the bottle was extremely sticky. Bf got: Chilaquiles: pan fried tortilla strips in red or green sauce with onions, cheese, and 2 eggs served with refried beans $9.25 -He INHALED it. He said it was super tasty! Great food, huge portions, with reasonable prices. For the kids, we usually get the French toast ($5) and stack of pancakes ($5.50). My wife got the Californian omelet. The eggs had a lot of flavor. I usually get the corn beef hash and it always delivers on flavor. Only downside is that the seats in the booths need to be replaced. We had to switch seats as we were sinking! read more

Despite being located a few doors east of a recent restaurant success story (Daisy Mint) and a few doors west of a beloved local bookstore (Book Alley), Andy's doesn't seem to be a well-known establishment in Pasadena. That's okay with me, because it means street parking is easy as pie and I can get seated as soon as I walk in the door. Service is warm and friendly; the atmosphere is low-key humble diner. The best part about Andy's is that breakfast is served all day. (The worst part about Andy's is that all day ends at 3pm, 1pm on Sundays.) The hashbrowns are killer good and they understand exactly what I mean when I ask for them "well-done". Pancakes are perfectly serviceable; eggs, bacon, and sausage are better than you'll get most places; and the only slight complaint is that the coffee is a tad watery for my tastes. Unlike a lot of small diners, you can pay with a credit card, and there's a big bowl of free candy at the cash register - GOOD candy, too, like 3 Musketeers and 100 Grand mini-bars. One gray and drizzly morning, the Colombian and I decided to warm up with a nice hot breakfast. Seeing how crowded this old school shop was, I thought it would be an easy win. But I should've adjusted my expectations after seeing the waitress in flip flops. Maybe a morning rush had just passed, but I noticed that most of the empty tables were left uncleaned. We were seated at a less greasy booth, but still greasy nonetheless. When opening the dingy menus, I expected standard breakfast fare for your usual coffee shop prices -- maybe around the $7 range. But no, most of these dishes were well above $10! Are we no longer in a recession? I glanced around the outdated decor and hoped against hope that the prices equated to fresh and high quality food. It was like hoping that smell wasn't coming from the dead hooker under my bed. The Boy gave in to his Latin instincts and ordered the Machaca plate. I was unnerved by the greasy air and stuck to something simple and hard to screw up - a fried egg sandwich. Looking at our meal, I was sorely disappointed. My sandwich was pathetic; two fried eggs, some lettuce, and a slice of tomato were carelessly plopped inside an English muffin like tranny kids in a detention hall. No sides were provided. Although the Boy's salsa was freshly made, his shredded beef was swimming in oil, and the refried beans were grossly inedible. This is saying a lot for a man who's vile gas often originates from the legume family. Sadly, I'd probably endure that (not that I have much of a choice) over another visit to this miserable establishment. Coffee shop fail. read more

Pictures of Elvis and Marilyn Monroe line the walls, with a few noticeable accolades of this spot being featured in some movies and televisions shows. The food is standard diner grub. The breakfast fair on the pricey side. Abundantly mundane & boring, nothing really stands out except for the bacon which was nice and crispy but not overcooked. If you're getting the pancakes or french toast, don't fret about not having enough syrup, as they hand you an entire bottle of Aunt Jemima with your meal. After a couple of tries, I think I've struck out here and would say I've had better elsewhere, though suitable if nothing else piques your interest. read more

The food was not bad I had the california omelette which was good but the server took it upon themselves to double their tip on the check I signed for. I know it is only an extra $5 bucks but $5 bucks is $5 bucks. I have called a few times since this happened to try and get this fixed and keep getting told the manager is not in or no one is available to help me. Poor customer service on the phone trying to get someone to help me and adding extra money to a check that is not authorized is not ok. Won't be returning due to those issues alone which is sad because the food was decent. read more

Good ol' Andy's. My wife and I went here all the time in college yet I don't think I ever saw another Caltecher here. No surprise, though--it's a coffee shop in the truck-stop diner sense, not in the latte & mocha sense. The patrons seem to be mostly working class too, not a bunch of young smart-asses who want to feel "retro" (except me, but I was raised on places like this, so I knew how to blend in). Obviously you can get good coffee and breakfasts here, but we mostly came for the cheeseburgers and potato salad. Cheap, simple, and satisfying. If you're a San Franciscan reading this and you like Westlake Coffee Shop or the Manor, give Andy's a try next time you're in Pasadena. read more

Would give it 4.5 stars because of the general pricing. I feel it's just slightly over what you would expect to pay for the kind of food you order. Now for the actual restaurant itself, I have nothing but good things to say! First off, the service is very personable, sweet, funny, and friendly. I feel like a family member there. I love the ambiance, definitely an old-school kinda feeling you get eating there...no wonder it was picked for movies like Fast And Furious and TV's Mad Men. The food itself is AMAZING. I highly recommend the San Francisco Omelet, but with SAUSAGE instead of BACON. They have good bacon here, but that combo with the omelet is just PERFECTION. They have great pancakes, and everything else! I've only had their breakfast so far. My fiancee has tried a burger there once and said it was pretty good. Nothing like starting off a lazy Sunday morning with breakfast at Andy's in my opinion! A+ All around. I will miss this spot when I move. read more

I go to this place for the no-frills, basic breakfast items. Stick to the American-style items though. Really good bacon and they know how to cook an egg. Coffee is a little on the weak side as stated in other reviews, but good nonetheless. However, the Mexican breakfast items are uninspiring and institutional-like in quality. The menudo was, or at least tasted like, it came out of a can. But then again if I wanted a Mexican breakfast, I would have gone to Ciro's or El Tepeyac. read more

Andy been there for years, I went long time ago but don't remember how it was. After reading the reviews and we were in the area thought we give Andy's a try. So glad I did reminds you of the old fashion diners and the food was very good. We had the classic club the turkey was the real turkey not that lunch package deli meat. The toasted bread brought it together. It's simple but good tasting ain't no gourmet stuff it's a diner. Just good food. The service was great. I used to work upstairs in the small office building adjoining Andy's. This place is one of those great standby's that never really changes and never disappoints. Their standard breakfast items are on point. Great eggs. I love how they do their Huevos Rancheros. Fried pork chop is a great seller there too. Lunch is standard burgers, sandwiches, and soups. Nothing to write home about, but consistently decent. Friendly faces and fair enough prices that you can eat there everyday. 3.5 stars for being a great diner. Pancakes were good, but bacon was drier than my grandma. They up charge for a lot of variations $1 here, $1 there, which added up in a hurry. Potion sizes were good. Overall the food was average. I would have given three stars but the meal was about $10 overpriced. It's a but further down Colorado, so is an okay choice when all others are packed on a weekend morning. I am amazed at the high reviews this place has. Some of the worst service I have had in a while with just passable food. I got an omelet. It was good but not spectacular. It didn't have the fluffy rise that you come to expect when eating out vs making it at home. My dining partner had an egg plate and said it was ok, but there was a lot left on the plate. The service was the worst part. We arrived early so it was empty, but the place soon filled up with the Saturday late risers. It took us 20 minutes to get the check and another 15 to pay with a credit card. We ate eggs so the time it took us to pay was about the same as the time we were eating. Sad because I love finding places locally, but won't be back. read more

As much as I like the vibe of the place, it comes down to the quality of the food. I had an omelette and pancakes - both of which were mediocre, at best. Like others have said, the coffee was really weak. Despite my sensitivity to caffeine, I barely felt its effects after 2 cups. Still, I really liked the ambiance. From the pictures on the walls to the old-school tunes (e.g. Jackson 5 - I'll be there), a lot of tradition is bottled up in this place. It just really has that throwback feel, and you know it's authentic. I'm sad to write this, but poor coffee and mediocre food will make me think twice before returning. read more
