Whats better than some Andy's Frozen Custard after 3 days inside with freezing temps. We had to get out of the house. Groceries were good firewood aplenty we needed a treat to break out of the homebound blues. It was a slippery trek but we saw a car parked in the lot we knew an employee was just waiting for someone to show, who likes standing around with nothing to do. Unable to make it through the drive through we zipped up our jackets and pulled our beanies tight. It was a cold careful walk to the window where our server waited eager to take an order. Even with freezing temperatures and frozen custard being served the whole experience was filled with warmth and joy as we scurried to the car to enjoyed our frozen treats. If you have never tried Andy's, it's the best food on the planet. My favorite is a vanilla concrete with peanut butter and melted chocolate chips, or any of their monthly/seasonal specials (like the butter cake sundae). One food you ABSOLUTELY MUST try at least once in your lifetime is the pumpkin pie concrete in the fall. Minus one star because I like for my favorite treats to be identical no matter the franchise location, and this location sometimes does things a little different from the others (over- or under-mixing, different amounts of mix ins). I had never had custard before and once I explained to the kids what custard was, they were iffy about trying it. However, I had a gift card I got for Christmas and decided to stop by on a hot July day. I cannot believe we waited so long to try it! It was delicious and creamy and my kids thought it was even better than ice cream. even though it's mostly chocolate or vanilla flavored, there are so many mix ins to choose from to customize your treat. They also have seasonal flavors, so the choices are almost endless. The customer service was also GREAT! I don't know if he was the manager on duty, but it was awesome that he took the time to show my kids how custard was made and even gave them a sample. My only request/suggestion would be for them to add tables. There's plenty of benches, but kids will be kids and they had such a hard time holding on to their custard and not making a mess. We ordered two concretes. One was the gooey butter and one was plain vanilla. I love custard. Smooth, creamy, and rich. The smalls were perfect size. The gooey butter was the stuff of dreams. It was buttery and Carmely (I know that's not a word but go with it). I can't get it out of my mind. I can't wait to go to church this Sunday so I can stop by Andy's on my way home. We won a sundae and a concrete at the Andy's booth so decided to redeem coupons before we headed home. Went to this location because it was the easiest to drive to. Someone takes your order on the side of the drive-thru, making the process a lot faster. By the time you get to the window to pay, your order is ready to go. I ordered a Strawberry and Oreo Concrete and an Original Straw-Ana Sundae. The Strawberry and Oreo Concrete had Andy's vanilla frozen custard blended with strawberries and Oreo -- it wasn't my favorite. Don't get me wrong: the Strawberry and Oreo Concrete was pretty good, but only a portion of it was. The top had everything I wanted in the Strawberry and Oreo Concrete but the bottom? Not so much. There was no Oreo towards the middle or bottom, just the top. After finishing the top portion of the Strawberry and Oreo Concrete, it tasted pretty bland -- just strawberry custard towards the middle and bottom. I enjoyed the Original Straw-Ana Sundae a lot. The cashier was confused, not sure why, i had to repeat it like 3 times. When i got my cups, it wasn't even in a cup and the custard looked smaller than a kid size scoop. The scoops were served in like a Starbucks looking 1 1/2 lid. I got served either a 1 scoop or 1/3 scoop of custard in this big waffle cone instead of the regular cake cake, which i ended up putting a straw in it and sucking it out like a milkshake. Ohhh so that's why there's always a long line here during the summer!! I've never really tasted frozen custard before until I stopped in at Andy's recently. I get it now. It's delicious! The custard is super creamy and rich. You can either choose the option of adding your own toppings or select one of their signature flavors. I was told they have seasonal flavors as well so the menu offers new flavors throughout the year. On my first visit, I got the boot daddy concrete. Delicious! I liked the texture of the crunchy Oreos along with the ooey gooey caramelly, chocolatey laced vanilla custard. The small size was plentiful which is a good thing at around $5 a pop. I got the James Brownie Funky jackhammer concrete on the second visit and loved it just as much as the boot daddy. This one had peanut butter blended into vanilla custard along with brownies and hot fudge. You can either go through the drive thru or walk up to the order counter from the outside. There's a menu before you get to the drive they window where you'll actually put in your order. Someone even comes out if the line is long to take your order for efficiency. They don't have any indoor seatings but there were a few benches outside to hang out at. The staff here are friendly enough. I had high hopes for for Andy's seasonal pumpkin offering. The sign, see picture, reads "Made with a whole slice." I don't know what size gets the"whole slice", but I don't think our large did, maybe it's the quart size? The pumpkin pie flavor just wasn't as profound as I was expecting. I think it should have been topped with a shot of whipped cream. It wasn't. Also, at $6.64 for a large, it seems expensive. Not sure how many ounces are in a large, but a quart was only 14 cents more at $6.79. I was also disappointed with the limited seating. Outdoor only. Only benches. No tables. There is a drive through. Bottom line: First time here, probably the last. PS. Great location and friendly service. They seemed pretty busy when I came around 9:00PM. But it still didn't take long. They have a few benches outside and good lighting just like any other Andys. The lights did attract some crickets, be careful. The custard is pretty good, I always get the kids size, the others are just too big. The concretes are even bigger! Pricing isn't too bad. Also, ice cream is typically churned in such a way that more air is incorporated to give it a light mouthfeel. The way Frozen Custard is churned is similar to Gelato, which incorporates little to no air, resulting in a dense, rich final product. Basically, frozen custard is the best of ALL worlds, lol. I'm not a huge fan of ice cream, but custard is game changing. My all-time favorite is their specialty creation...Snowmonster! The name truly does not give away the key ingredients of the custard blend: chocolate and strawberry; but really now, who can resist those pieces of melted chocolate and strawberries mixed in with vanilla custard? For those keeping it simple, I would put my money down on the vanilla custard, the original backbone flavor of all the other fancy specialty desserts on the menu. You can easily say the vanilla custard is velvety, sweet, and creamy - worth the indulgence from all the dieting you did all week. My boyfriend goes for the jumbo vanilla cup every time! One time, we forgot to specify jumbo vanilla in a CUP, and we had this huge swirl of vanilla in a cone that was ready to topper over. Trust me...get that jumbo vanilla in a cup unless you want to instagram it. I'm not a huge fan of the chocolate; and you can experience that first hand. There's also the option to do half vanilla & half chocolate in a cup for those wanting to experiment around with the different flavors. We always get the sample cone (vanilla by default) for our sweet pup, which is pawsome! This place gets really crowded on those warm days, especially now that it's summer. You can walk up to the window to order, and chill/eat at the benches outside (note: they do not have tables). There is also the option to do the drive thru. Do not get intimated by the long lines at the drive thru, the workers are F-A-S-T. They even send a cashier out to walk by your car to get those orders cooking to ensure you get your goodies in a timely manner. I can't say how convenient it is for this place to be open late till midnight on certain days (Fri & Sat). Not to mention, they're right next to McD. I was so extremely excited to try this place out but when I finally I was sadly unimpressed. I came around eight on a Monday night and they weren't busy at all with one car ahead of me at the drive thru and no customers in the actual place. Unlike most drive thru's the menu sign is just that, a menu sign, and you actually don't order there. You take as much time as you need and then you just drive up to the actual window and order. It's actually a nice way to order, with a person face to face rather than one of those dinky speakers. I decided on a medium Bootdaddy concrete which is vanilla custard blended with creme caramel, hot fudge, and oreo. Yumm. Overall it was ~$6.00 and was served in a large cup due to the toppings which I loved because then it wasn't overflowing and dripping everywhere. Now here's where everything went downhill. After driving down the street I finally tried my bootdaddy concrete and I could taste... mint. Mint. Mint? Why on earth was I tasting mint? I made sure to take a picture of the menu and when I looked back it definitely is not supposed to have mint in it. Here's the thing, I'm not allergic to anything but duck, so it's not a big deal but it is a big deal to people who may be allergic to nuts, or berries, or anything that is going to be mixed in with the custard. If they aren't cleaning in between servings then there is definite possibility for cross contamination and that is really bad. I have a niece with severe food allergies and I would never take her here after this experience. Overall it's nice that they have late hours and serve a pretty good concrete but the fact that I can taste something that shouldn't be in my order? That merits the three stars. read more
