It was the perfect evening for ice cream and Andy's was just around the corner so we decided to swing by for a visit. Apparently so did everyone else in the area. The place was packed, the drive thru line was wrapped around the building and the customers were growing impatient waiting for their orders. We got in line and waited to place our order wondering if we made a mistake. It wasn't a very long wait until we were ablet to place our orders and even though Andy's was as busy as it was, the gentleman that took our order was really nice and patient. Long story but in the end that same gentleman singlehandedly finished taking orders, jumped into the back and caught all of the walk up orders up by hustling back and forth. There were three people working the drive thru and he, alone, was taking orders and filling them. I wish I had his name to give him the proper props. There was a long wait but given the hustle of this one employee I was okay with the wait. I ordered the triple chocolate concrete. They were out of cookie dough so I substituted for brownie. Overall it was a good choice for chocolate lovers. The ice cream is very smooth and their is not shortage of cookie dough or chocolate chips. Overall, a great place for a twist on ice cream. Great location and I will say this could have been a horrible experience had it not been for that one employee. read more

I grew up on gooey butter cake and was so excited to see Andy's is doing a gooey butter cake special. Unfortunately, we have no Andy's near us in SW Charlotte, so we made the trek to the Matthew's location to give them a try for the first time. I was going to get two pints to go. The guy working rang me up, but then thought to go look. Nope, they were out, he said they had not made any last night. He offered a concrete instead. So I said okay after inquiring the difference - definitely helped in explaining. He told me it was $17 and some change. I thought that was really high when I paid, but then I see him bringing out two concretes. I guess he assumed I wanted two because I wanted two pints. I should have inquired when he told me the price, so I took both after he had made them. Just a miscommunication and understanding on our parts. I get home and see I'm actually charged $21 and some change. As I see the menu now, I was charged the right amount for what I got. What likely happened was that he rang in the pints, told me that amount, but then realized he needed to change it to concretes without telling me. I'm fine with paying the right price, I just want to be told about it as it comes across as deceiving when I see being charged a different amount - no receipt was given or offered. Last issue - only one person working. He was helping me at the walk-up while also working to help the drive-through at the same time. So it was very slow going even though he was working as hard as he could, making you feel bad for the guy. The concrete was great, and I wish I could have had it in pints as advertised, but improvements could be made to make experiences better to get to 5 stars. read more

Where is the custard at Andy? I'm not sure where they put the rest of our order ... we've been here a few times and while they are happy working and friendly man at the register - the ice cream has been a bit short - thought it was a fluke but now all 3 ice creams are missing around 3-4 inches of custard ? I don't understand. A year ago we would have to hurry up and eat the top before it melted and fell out of the cups . It was "watery" more consistency w that if a malt/milkshake and these were jackhammers ? I thought they are supposed to be like frozen custard at least they were a year ago . My four friends and I came to this location tonight and all got separate orders. Two bites in, my friend and I chewed on something crunchy. I spit it out in my napkin because it got stuck in my teeth. IT WAS METAL SHARDS! We went back and we showed the manager and she didn't even apologize. She just took the napkin, and gave us refunds. Didn't ask if we're okay or if we ate it or cracked a tooth (which I think I popped a filling)... she was so UNBOTHERED. We asked what it was and they tried to diminish the problem and said "oh it's nothing". The manager brought the guy over that made the ice cream and he proceeded to show a metal spoon that we heard crash to the floor as we were waiting for our orders. He held it up and it was visibly chipped. So he USED the broken scooper and contaminated the whole entire batch of custard. I'd like to believe they threw the batch away but who knows. Obviously there's a lack of hygiene and self awareness here and we'll never be back. These kids working at this location obviously do not care what goes into your food. Don't go here unless you want shards of metal mixed with your ice cream. read more

Fast and polite service with rich and delicious custard. It's not the same as ice cream so don't over do it. It's thicker and richer than ice cream and has a different mouth feel. The sundae I got had hot fudge, caramel, pecans and a cherry and it really hit the spot. This is an excellent spot for frozen custard! The staff is always friendly and I have never had trouble with my order. The custard is the best around and I recommend a Jack Hammer if you stop in. It's a busy place so plan ahead. You might have to wait, but it's worth it! I've been to Andy's several times, they finally opened this location which is much closer to me than the others so I had to check it out! I tried their peach dream concrete for the first time, which had chucks of fresh (not soggy) peaches and caramel. Soooooo good! I also got a pup cup for my dog which was just plain vanilla custard with a mini cone. He of course devoured it. The employees at this new location were all very kind and you could tell they were trying their best to give this location a good reputation. I will note that the custard itself seemed slightly more liquidy than what I'm used to at Andy's, maybe they're still getting the hang of things. Overall, a solid experience! read more

A happy place for hot summer days. I have been excited for this location to open since I saw the sign go up earlier this year. It has been a regular ice cream fix since I started going to the Concord Mills location then to the Waxhaw location because it felt ever so closer. The frozen custards don't disappoint and they have so many different ingredients to choose from. My flavors of choice are the Rico Sauve, Boot Daddy and James Brown. They also have different special treats that race car drivers mix together. I usually vary the choices they make to make it my own. You really can't go wrong with this place. Your quality control needs some work. More than once, at this location, our Concretes are very lacking with the "fillings". If we wanted plain custard, we would order that. Tonight I ordered a Concretes with crème caramel and hot fudge. There was a small bit of caramel but basically no hot fudge. My husband had raspberry and bananas and it lacked bananas. Andy's has the best custard in Charlotte. I've been to a few places in the area but Andy's is always number 1 with experience. It isn't a sit down restaurant, however they do have a few tables outside to sit and enjoy your custard. They sell a variety of different flavors and kinds of ice cream. The staff is always friendly, patient and willing to give suggestions. Definitely check it out if you're in the Matthews areas. My favorite is the Oreo cheesecake. Andy's Frozen Custard is Fantastic! The custard is creamy and delicious much better than typical ice cream. The place just serves ice cream and the line was out the door on Monday night. Don't let the line scare you, it goes very quick. They take orders chick-fil-a style so passenger seat be ready! My one complaint was that the toppings were just on the top. Usually concrete mixers are mixed throughout. It just left a lot of vanilla ice cream on the bottom. My friend got the root beer slush which was also fantastic. Tonight we took our kids to get ice cream in celebration of our daughter's 21st birthday and we were treated EXTREMELY rudely by surprisingly the "manager" who goes by the name River, at least that what she told us. It seems River was not happy that we decided to proceed with our order having to pay cash since the "system" was down as we were told. From the moment we decided to move forward, River was rude, unkind, unfriendly, acted as if we were bothering her... We stop at this Andy's about once a week because our kids beg us to stop and until tonight, service has always been great. However, we've never encountered River before. I'm not surprised when kids give bad service at times, but to receive this horrible treatment from the manager (River) was quite shocking. She even lead the rest of her team in mocking and laughing at us as we were leaving. I only hope they did nothing negative to our ice cream. Very disappointing!!! If we encounter River at the drive through in the future we will just pull away. My husband and I have been here five times since it opened. While the custard and the selection are very good, the consistency of the way the items are made is not. My husband and I have ordered the same items five times, and all five times, they were not made the same. My husband like the A.J Almondinger, and I like the pretzel/caramel one (think it's called the crunch). The one I had last night did not have the caramel, just the pretzels, and the custard.
