Nothing to write home about. Just an old dated-looking restaurant. Food ok. Prices very good.

Great food, pizzas, drinks, and a nice patio with heat when weather turns chilly. Fridays they have a DJ who plays great music. Fun times.

First, I checked out the menu that is posted on the wall, and tried to make the right decision. EVERYTHING is homemade. Ok, I decided on the Tuna Salad on a white homemade yeast roll. You can select one side, so I had cucumber, tomato and onion salad. I couldn't pass up on fresh lemonade and a slice of one of the most delicious coconut pie I've ever had. The lady that took my order was soooo sweet and of course knowledgeable of the menu. I didn't feel rushed, just relaxed. Soooo we had the most interesting conversation that concluded her parents knew my mother back in the day. I didn't expect tears of joy at lunch. It was lovely! I didn't get her name, but I'll never forget her until I return with friends and family to experience this "small town" treasure. Ok, the food. The roll was golden brown, soft and screamed HomeMade. It was filled with a white flaky and well seasoned tuna salad, topped with fresh crunchy shredded lettuce. YUM ! The cucumber, grape tomato and onion salad had a lite vinaigrette dressing. Fresh !! There is freshly made strawberry lemonade, lemonade, Iced tea and the Pepsi fountain drink products. Ok, the star of the show. That slice of coconut pie was Perfect. The crust was brown, very flaky and filled with a thick creamy coconut filling. This little cute old town restaurant is next to the railroad track and train station that's across from Randolph Macon College. It's popular to the students and residents of Ashland. If you would like A DELICIOUS Lunch in a warm and cute small town restaurant, come to Homemade's by Suzanne!!!! Thank you

The menu (at least the menu that was available at 3 PM) is limited to burgers and sandwiches ($9-$10), wings, fried or baked chicken dinners ($9 - $9.50) and side dishes.($2 - $3.) Sandwich offerings include Pulled pork, cheese steak, pork chop, fish, and crab cake, each comes with one side. Sides include string beans, coleslaw, fries, potato salad, and mac & cheese. There is a decent bar set up that appears to be geared toward tropical drinks -- lots of colored liquid in bottles. (The chalkboard special drink was a "blue long island.") I noticed some top shelf brands as well, so they are prepared to make people happy. We opted for a pork chop sandwich with mac & cheese and a cheese steak sandwich with fries. My wife and I always have a debate in small places how much of the food is precooked by Cisco or PFG and how much is truly made in a kitchen. I have to say in this case the food seemed to be truly fresh from the kitchen for the most part. The pork chop was tender and well seasoned, deep fried and on white bread. It was too big for my wife to finish. The cheese steak was gooey with melty cheese sauce and well-griddled onions in addition to bite sized thinly cut steak, again very well seasoned. I finished it and could have eaten more, but I was satisfied. The macaroni had a good amount of cheese mixed into the bechamel, seemingly house made. Only the fires were guaranteed frozen, and I have no qualms with that, very few affordable eats cut their own potatoes. This was a very satisfying lunch. Only two quibbles. Service is in styro take out containers, not plates. This was surprising, since the numerous tables bespeak an expectation of dining in. And for whatever reason they only have sweet tea, no unsweet. This is to be expected further south but seems an omission here. These are minor quibbles. Service was fast and friendly. Opening a restaurant on the back end of a pandemic is very brave. I hope the place thrives because the flavors are indeed good.

While we found a shaded table with a nice breeze outdoors, the chairs were wet and the table was tilted, so we ultimately opted to dine inside. Inside, a band was setting up for music later in the evening, and they boast a large selection of beers on tap. Despite the indoor area being almost full, we were waited on quickly, and our food arrived promptly. For my main course, I had a classic burger (normally served with cheese). Since I prefer no pink, I ordered it without any pink element, which was great as it kept the flavor clean. The exterior had a nice char that added depth to the flavor. The burger was served with thick slices of tomato, onion, and lettuce, a small amount of mustard, and on the side were jalapeno and hot dill pickles. The seasoned fries were very good, though they were slightly too salty for my taste (I'm not a big salt person). If you need to limit your sodium intake, I suggest skipping the seasoned fries. My wife ordered the Ahi Tuna Tacos, which were delicious and beautifully encrested. While she found the coating flavor was unusual with tuna initially, adding lime juice made it perfect. When I tried a piece, we noticed that the tuna might have been cooked on the same surface as my burger, picking up some of the char, which added an interesting element. Overall, the service was excellent throughout, and both our meals were enjoyable and served hot and quickly. The atmosphere is lively, filled with customers enjoying the music. We didn't stay for the band (which I'm sure would have enhanced the mood), but we noted that the outdoor tables are quieter and suitable for families--though this might change later in the evening. This spot is perfect whether you're looking for a quick meal or an enjoyable evening with live music.

However, Kreggers usually delivers food that is absolutely out this world. Stale squashed hamburger bun, wilted weird colored lettuce, burnt cheese, no pickles and the onions had a fuzzy appearance upon looking at what I ordered. Ice cold fried and warm ranch dressing on the side. Nothing like what they usually deliver. I'm so sad they apparently are under new management.

The poor cashier was running back and forth taking orders and then helping prepare the food. She was kind enough to offer a free soda and apologize before any wait even happened -- but after hearing that, a large group of travelers decided not to order and walked out. If you're going to advertise with such big claims, you should be staffed properly to deliver on them. There seems to be a serious management issue here. Either hire more people or rethink the signage that keeps attracting more customers than the staff can handle. By the time I started writing this review, I had already been waiting about 20 minutes for a simple order. I hope they address the staffing and improve the overall experience. Spoiler alert: they're not the greatest burgers.
