Nothing to write home about. Just an old dated-looking restaurant. Food ok. Prices very good.

Great food, pizzas, drinks, and a nice patio with heat when weather turns chilly. Fridays they have a DJ who plays great music. Fun times.

After looking for someplace close we found cafe54. SUPER close to campus. My eggs were ok. The corned beef hash was the canned kind just like I like it, because some stuff you can make fresh and fancy up but that preservative, war time taste just hits and you know I'm right. I had coffee that would put hair on your chest. and an Arnold palmer that was kind of watery. Oddly enough I found those traits acceptable. My son had french toast. This is only the 3rd time he's had it (by choice) and he really enjoyed it. While brunch/lunch was a 3.5 in my book it was a 5 for him There is no tap to pay but they do take the usual cash and card. So just don't forget your cards in your pants pockets and you'll be ok. The place was bright and airy with outdoor seating and the service was just ok. Decent place. You should go in a try it out.

I've eaten here twice now the first time I said, I would never go back, but I wanted to give it a second chance. This place basically does breakfast and if you only do one thing, you should be great and let's face it. Breakfast is one of the easiest things to make and do well but this place misses the mark on every level. First impressions walking in the door, the place is freezing cold even the waitresses all have goosebumps and who wants to sit in a refrigerator and be uncomfortable while you're eating? We walked in the door to a nearly empty restaurant with these big, beautiful sunny windows, but they sat in a dark corner while the booths in the windows were all empty. Business 101 people attract people put them in the windows so that they can have use and people can see that the business has customers!!!! maybe they didn't wanna sit us next to the windows because they were covered with greasy fingerprints that looked like they had been there since the last weekend and hadn't been cleaned. The glass was gross. The menu has all the standard fair that you would expect from a regular breakfast restaurant.... in Kansas. all very American. Nothing stands out as being gourmet or unique in a market where there's a lot of money and a lot of transplants who are used to better stuff than ordinary Americana breakfast food. The prices are a little high, but it's 2026. Everything's high. We order our food. I got scrambled eggs and they were hard as rubber because they were overcooked.! How do you own a breakfast restaurant and you can't cook scrambled eggs? I had the eggs returned and they did a decent enough job on the next batch but generally speaking the food was just barely OK. I got orange juice and it came in a giant glass and it was clearly from concentrate. Maybe that works in Iowa but at a specialty restaurant in a fashionable town I want fresh squeeze orange juice. I don't need 10 gallons of it. I would rather have a little juice glass full of fresh orange juice than a gallon of concentrated crap. I just don't think these people understand their clientele and they don't do anything special like blueberries for your pancakes.... There's so many things you can do with breakfast and they just did the bare minimum. It's so disappointing to have the restaurant with the absolute best geography in our community barely trying to make decent food or make customers comfortable in a clean environment. I was charitable when I gave them two stars because I actually felt bad. I want them to succeed, but they really need to rethink what they're doing and try a lot harder.

Sitting at the bar, we were served immediately and were able to order food. If you are lucky enough, you will get to meet local legend, musicIan Jimmy Catlett, where you can even enjoy a drink from the menu "What Jimmy Drinks". Luke was a very attentive bartender, server and greeter. With good insight into what is what on the menu and behind the bar. We even got to meet Sara Beth herself (sorry Sarah if I used the wrong one) the SB behind the name! If you don't lead with "Glitter on the Mattress" you are missing out! I had been telling my Dad for a while about how fun this place is, how nice everyone usually is, and how much I thought he would enjoy it. We were finally able to come together today, and he was genuinely excited to see the inside and have breakfast here for the first time. As expected, we were told the wait would be about 45-50 minutes. Fine. The place was busy, as it usually is, and we had absolutely no problem waiting. I spent years working as a server and hostess. I understand busy restaurants, long waits, and tables that don't turn as quickly as expected. After waiting about 40 minutes, I went to the host stand to simply ask for an update. We had watched people leave and groups continue to be seated during our wait, so I wanted to see where we stood. The young man at the host stand told me it would be ANOTHER 40-50 minutes. I genuinely thought he had confused our name with someone else's, so I explained that we had already been waiting for 40 minutes. He told me our names were "at the bottom of the list" and that people inside were moving very slowly. No apology. No double-checking the list. No attempt to figure out how a quoted 45-50 minute wait had suddenly turned into an hour and a half. He didn't ask if we were willing to sit inside, offer another seating option, or even suggest placing a to-go order. Nothing. He was completely dismissive. So I handed him the menu and my Dad and I left. Then, just 20 MINUTES later--not the additional 40-50 minutes we had literally just been told--I received a call saying our table was ready. I tried to explain that we were no longer there and WHY we had left. The second I said we had "left," I was HUNG UP ON. Honestly, that was it for me. Before that phone call, I was actually sitting in the car telling my Dad that maybe we could try again another day. Despite being embarrassed and disappointed after talking this place up to him so much, I was still willing to chalk it up to a bad interaction with one host. Getting hung up on completely sealed the deal. I'm not angry because the restaurant was busy. I'm angry because we were treated like we didn't matter. I'm angry because we waited patiently for 40 minutes, politely asked one question, and were dismissed with inaccurate information instead of someone taking 30 seconds to double-check. I'm angry because when I tried to explain what had happened, I wasn't even given the basic courtesy of finishing a sentence before someone hung up on me. My Dad and I have lived in Lakeside for over 30 years. We weren't asking to skip the line. We weren't demanding a table. We weren't rude to anyone. We were two local customers who were excited to have breakfast together at a place I had genuinely loved and recommended to other people. We will NEVER be back. And yes, we will absolutely be telling our friends, family, and neighbors about how we were treated and recommending that they go somewhere else unless they want to risk being dismissed, given completely inaccurate wait information, and hung up on when they try to explain why they left. Apparently this place is busy enough that treating people with basic courtesy no longer matters. That's fine. There are plenty of other restaurants that will happily take our money and, at the very least, treat my Dad and me like human beings. What was supposed to be a fun breakfast with my Dad turned into one of the worst customer service experiences I've had in a long time. I went from genuinely loving and recommending this place to never wanting to step foot inside again. Congratulations. You lost two longtime local customers in less than an hour.

While we found a shaded table with a nice breeze outdoors, the chairs were wet and the table was tilted, so we ultimately opted to dine inside. Inside, a band was setting up for music later in the evening, and they boast a large selection of beers on tap. Despite the indoor area being almost full, we were waited on quickly, and our food arrived promptly. For my main course, I had a classic burger (normally served with cheese). Since I prefer no pink, I ordered it without any pink element, which was great as it kept the flavor clean. The exterior had a nice char that added depth to the flavor. The burger was served with thick slices of tomato, onion, and lettuce, a small amount of mustard, and on the side were jalapeno and hot dill pickles. The seasoned fries were very good, though they were slightly too salty for my taste (I'm not a big salt person). If you need to limit your sodium intake, I suggest skipping the seasoned fries. My wife ordered the Ahi Tuna Tacos, which were delicious and beautifully encrested. While she found the coating flavor was unusual with tuna initially, adding lime juice made it perfect. When I tried a piece, we noticed that the tuna might have been cooked on the same surface as my burger, picking up some of the char, which added an interesting element. Overall, the service was excellent throughout, and both our meals were enjoyable and served hot and quickly. The atmosphere is lively, filled with customers enjoying the music. We didn't stay for the band (which I'm sure would have enhanced the mood), but we noted that the outdoor tables are quieter and suitable for families--though this might change later in the evening. This spot is perfect whether you're looking for a quick meal or an enjoyable evening with live music.

Stale squashed hamburger bun, wilted weird colored lettuce, burnt cheese, no pickles and the onions had a fuzzy appearance upon looking at what I ordered. Ice cold fried and warm ranch dressing on the side. Nothing like what they usually deliver. I'm so sad they apparently are under new management.
