Anejo Tequileria is a nice little find in Hell's Kitchen. It is a small bar, restaurant with 15 or so bar seats and a dining room sitting 50. The cuisine is Mexican with an extensive tequila menu, tusk the name Anejo Tequileria. I must admit I was in the area for Tacos at an other location, but after my delicious meal I was in the mood for Margaritas. I notice the name Anejo Tequileria across the street and I guess I found my place. As I walked in, I was greeted by a very friendly Hostess. My wife and I said we wanted some bar seats and we were escorted to the bar with a smile. Nice. Good start. Love a warm welcome. Since we were in the mood for Margaritas, we ordered two house Margaritas which were at $8 Happy Hour price. I am feeling the love. I was very surprised to see that the Margarita was poured from a "tap system" like a draft beer. Not a big fan of this, but then again "don't judge a book by it's cover". The Margarita was a little sweet, but as the lime was absorbed and the drink allowed to open up, I enjoyed a very smooth drink. It was delicious. I guess I enjoyed my drink, since I ordered a couple of more. They use the "tap system" due to the large volume of business, as I was told by the Bartender. No issues here since it was a nice drink. The Bartender, Tyler, true professional with a genuine feel for the "art of the drink" and hospitality. He had his setup with fresh ingredients and ready to go. He engaged us in conversation and told us about the tequilas like a proud father. After telling him I was a whiskey drinker, he recommended a very delicious tequila. Now I don't remember the brand, but I do remember the taste. It had the characteristics of whiskey due to the aging in whiskey barrels. It had that woody taste and a very clean finish. Smooth. Not that harsh taste of lower quality tequila. I do enjoy a good sipping tequila. Outstanding. Overall, this is an excellent place for cocktails. They are delicious. The vibe of the restaurant was engaging with Latin Music (salsa, merengue) playing at the right levels. Their was energy and you can tell something cool was happening. The food look yummy and will enjoy on my next visit. Clientele was definitely professional and friendly. Very Soho and West Village. Anejo Tequileria is a must visit if in the area. Not sure if it's because it was my first time indoor dining in NYC since it's been allowed again but this place was on point! Contact tracing required before seating, temperature checks, masks everywhere, barriers between tables/sections, sanitizer at the table (extra points for that), contactless menu and pay options. Very impressed. Came with a girlfriend for brunch. It was relatively nice yesterday so they had their door open & large windows open to ventilate the place. Food was delicious! Food & drinks at Anejo are wonderful! We indulged in the guacamole trio as a starter as we could not decide on which single one to order. They all taste amazing, but the stand out was the Verde with pumpkin seeds and pomegranate. My main was the signature octopus dish with squash confit and chorizo cream. What can I say, it was heavenly!!! The pan negro was a great addition to the dish that lifted it up even more. As a side we'd ordered the Brussel sprouts with chorizo, which were perfectly cooked with a nice bite to both the sausage as well as the sprouts. Dessert was the flan to share, which was another trip to food heaven, creamy with a lovely sticky, but not too sweet caramel sauce. I've walked past this place many times and it's always packed! Finally, my husband and I decided to stop by around midday of the 4th of July. We were a little taken aback to discover that they were only serving a limited brunch menu (I had really been looking forward to trying some of the lunch entrees), but we decided to stay anyways. After all, it was a national holiday so I couldn't fault them - many other restaurants were closed or operating limited hours. I ordered the chilaquiles and my husband ordered a burger. Both were great!!! We also split a side of chorizo home fries - also delicious! The food was so filling that we couldn't finish it all and had it packed to go. We're from SoCal where good food is fast, cheap, and always just around the corner. As other reviewers have mentioned, we had also really been hurting for some solid flavorful food! Luckily Anejo delivered and we will definitely be back (when hopefully the full menu is available) to try more of their offerings. read more

My friend and I ate here last night and as a result got violent food poisoning. I called the restaurant and the manager was very defensive asking if I don't actually have a food allergy, and no one else was sick besides me and my friend. Even though I ran into someone in the neighborhood who ate there on Friday night and also has very bad food poisoning. We ate the carne asada, guacamole and chips, fish tacos, and tuna ceviche. I'm already a fan of Anejo and have eaten at the Tribeca location numerous times. I happened to be in Hell's Kitchen and decided on Anejo there because of my previous experiences. Although the vibe is different in Hell's Kitchen the food and drinks are consistent with what I've experienced in TriBeCa. PS we sat outside and loved the local city vibe. The strong point of this restaurant is food. It is based loosely on Mexican/Latin cuisine with an extra infusion of flavor and culinary creativity. All the dishes we tried were excellent, with special mention for the Shishito peppers, Ceviche and grilled octopus. Oh the house made chips are great too! The bar mixology is great and I have an appreciation of the well crafted margaritas and the excellent tequila selections. The service was both friendly and attentive. Would not recommend and will not return. Both of my small plate items were disgustingly inedible, the mushroom quesadilla being one of the WORST things I've ever tasted in my entire life. Queso fundido arrived with the tortillas too hot to touch, and by the time I was able to handle it the cheese was cold and inedible (flavor also not great). This review is based upon my two visits to Anejo. 1st time: I came here with a large group of friends for brunch. Since we were really large group they pretty much brought us everything on the brunch menu. The standouts for me were the chips and guacamole, the chicken chilaquiles and mushroom fundido. Everything was exceptional that day almost making me wanting to give them five stars. 2nd time: I was so happy that I found a good Mexican place right in my neighborhood. We came back for dinner one night, the experience however was quite disappointing. We got the guacamole with chips, fish tacos and corn side. The food itself wasn't bad, (we did the Guac trio, the one with the pineapple was the best) however the service was terrible. This probably warrants for two star review. In summary I have decided to give it four stars because the brunch experience was truly exceptional. Come here only for brunch!! read more

Started of with two margaritas and they were phenomenal. Made perfectly lime and tequila and flavor. Started off with the pork belly tostadas and they melt in your mouth. They were the best part of the meal although they are very small. Then I ordered the short rib tacos, duck enchiladas, and fish tacos. They were amazing! Came here with friends. We shared a trio of guacamole, the bacon habanero was the best of the trio. For dinner I had drunken lamb Barbacoa which was pretty tasty. My girlfriend ordered the short rib tacos. They were alright but came out a little cold. The flan dessert was the highlight the of the evening for me as it was the most enjoyable dish. We were so pleasantly surprised by our recent visit to Anejo on a Friday night, and found it to be a perfect spot for a late-night date. After a long travel day, I picked this spot on a whim. As a native Texan, I am really picky about my Mexican food, but decided to give it a spin. Located on a busy corner in Hell's Kitchen, the location is excellent and has great curb appeal. We were very pleased to be seated immediately at a sidewalk table right on the corner, one of the best seats in the house and perfect for people watching. We started with a couple of skinny margs, which were so great, we ended up ordering a pitcher to share after. For dinner, we started with the chips and salsa trio, which featured a habanero, a zingy verde, and my beloved arbol, which was perfect. We followed that up with a delicious and refreshing salad, some fusion-inspired cauliflower tacos, and some of the best esquite this side of San Antonio. The waiters are experts. So glad we came here to figure out which tequila we would like. The flight offerings are great and the guacamole is comparable to a michelin star restaurants offerings for guac and chips. While the cauliflower tacos seemed sweet and sour-ish, the main attraction are the tequila flights and the expertise of the waiters. We ended up loving the fortaleza tequila offerings. Food is delicious, however...I'm giving a 1 star bc we witnessed an employee...possibly the manager or owner? (a thick woman with short brown hair) completely ream out an employee. I'm unsure of the situation but I could not believe she was doing it in clear sight for customers to see (and hear). I needed a brunch place near the Javits Center and Anejo seemed to fit! I went at 11:30am, when the restaurant opens on a Saturday, and was seated immediately. The restaurant was aesthetically pleasing and I was seated at a table for 4 outside. The front of the house and the wait staff were VERY friendly and welcoming. Once my friends arrived, the waitress took our orders immediately. I ordered from the prix fixe brunch menu which gets you an entree and a few drinks for $29. I decided on the blueberry corn pancakes, Bloody Marias (A Bloody Mary that substitutes tequila for vodka) and applewood smoked bacon. The drinks were flowing and the food didn't take long to come out at all. The food and drinks were pretty good. MEXICAN FOOD/RUSSIAN ROULETTE The food at Anjeo isn't the problem. While it's not the best Mexican fare you'll have in New York, it's solid far-above-the-grade food and well worth the borderline pricey price. I'm proud to boast that I've never had a bad meal there. I have, however, had some horrible experiences. Today was the latest chapter in the Anjeo customer service 'mierda show.' I arrived as a party of three with two dogs in tow. Noticing FIVE (count them -- 5 - five - FIVE!!) empty tables outside, I thought that they may accommodate us for a late (it was past 3 pm) cocktails and guacamole. After all, this place advertises "cocktails and light tapas." While the staff outside was amenable to serving us, the hostess said that they were "too busy." Pointing out the five (5) FIVE! empty tables, we asked to speak with a manager. The manager showed up armed with condescension. He asked (dripping with sarcasm) "what do you want me to do?" - the clear answer was - margaritas and some menus. Eventually, we got our drinks an tapas. The four empty tables around us grew to seven. Anjeo netted the easiest $80 they made all day -- which they could/should have done without the drama. Why am I writing this? Because this experience was not a one-off. While the food here is solid, the service is a mixed bad of OK - to - today's AWFUL. I'm also a neighbor. I love recommending restaurants in Hell's Kitchen - a neighborhood known for its restaurants. I'd recommend staying AWAY from Anjeo. Adios!! read more

I like Anejo because they have a great lunch special. It's hard to find an affordable (by NYC terms) lunch spot in Hell's Kitchen that also has great food, but Anejo is that spot for me. The food is good, the staff is friendly and service is quick. Their Carne Asada Tortas are my go to and if it's Friday...count me in for a margarita.
