We ordered the nacho appetizer, when we got it the nachos were all soggy. We ordered the burrito bowls, the menu did not say the items were in an edible bowl and we had a gluten allergy and it was too late once we received the food order. Stopped here after a show tonight to have a drink and late night snack. Walked up to the host stand and the employee greeted us and said "one second let me wipe this table for you". A few minutes later a group of guys walked up who the manager clearly knew. He pulled them from the back of the line and gave them our table that the other guy was wiping off for us. When I said something he was patronizing and called me "sweetheart". At that point we left. We refused to give our money to a business that was so condescending. The others in my group who got different entrées agreed that it was adequate Mexican food, but in an area with lots of choices, you need to do a little bit better to stand out. This was not our best food decision. My daughter ordered nachos with steak and I ordered queso fundido. My daughter did not care for her nachos and barely touched them. My queso fundido didn't come with pico de gallo as advertised and was just melted cheese for $16. The tortilla chips were somewhat stale. The first water glass they served us was dirty. The staff was inattentive. We waited over 15 minutes and no one came to check on us. I had to ask someone for our check so we could pay and leave. They didn't ask us if we enjoyed our meal after seeing that the majority was still on our plates. The one good thing was the peach margarita; however, they were advertising $5 margaritas in any flavor, but I was charged $5 for the margarita and then $2 for the peach flavor. read more

Came here to say for Cinco De Mayo with some friends. Not too bad of a spot. Music was pretty good, drinks were reasonably priced, and "floor manager(??) was very attentive to us. A group of 11 of us came here on New Year's Eve for lunch to a very condensed menu. Our table was given two different menus. The menus were slightly different with one having much higher prices. The food wasn't terrible, but definitely wasn't worth the cost. Along with the fact they don't allow refills on sodas and didn't want to give a refill on water. We got our ticket and they charged us the higher price from the second menu and when we asked they told us that they didn't have another menu. We argued with the manager and of course got no where. The staff is curt and not too friendly. The prices are extremely high. The food is not good enough to back it up. This is not San Diego. This is not San Antonio. The food here mostly tastes like a cross between school lunch meat and something you would find in a hospital. No chips are given here. This is the best place in midtown manhattan for happy hour and pregame. I've been coming here for 10 years, and never got disappointed. Food is very nice, my favorites are nachos chili con carne, chili rellanos and steak ranchero. Stuff is always welcoming and very friendly. They are known for the most dramatic "HAPPY BIRTHDAY" (I won't say why, you should experience it). Specialty cocktails are so fun and delicious, nicely made and pretty. While in the theatre district we decided to find a spot for a pre-show snack. After passing by several places that seemed generic and uninviting, we saw the colorful exterior of Sombrero. We felt a hospitable vibe as soon as we opened the door. The ambience is cute, even a little kitschy, but the colorful atmosphere matches the friendly, bright service, and certainly reflects the flavorful food. Hubby had very tasty chicken fajitas, and I had the yummiest cheese empanadas I've had in decades -- and that's saying a lot, coming from a Los Angeles/Southern California native who grew up with every iteration of Mexican food you can imagine. My only suggestion would be to have a few more vegetarian options on the menu -- such as cheese enchiladas and grilled veggie fajitas. I had the appetizer quesadilla and it was actually large enough to be filling , delicious with great toppings and lovely cheese inside .The chips and salsa were delicious. The salsa is actually superior to any salsa I've had before, kudos. I also had dessert ; you get four churros with cream and a lovely dolce de Leche dip, so good. The service was fantastic, kind and caring individuals who just want you to have a great experience. I really love this place and I can't say enough good things about it. I had the tropical martini which was splendid, so ,so worth trying. The taste of mango permeated the drink and you could tell the drink was not watered down like it is in many places. Taco salads were elevated by cumin-rubbed chicken (amazingly flavorful and tender) and mixed greens (instead of iceberg). Generous with chips (although you pay for them).
