Pros: $5 dollar margaritas Friendly staff Close to multiple bars & restaurants Cons: Inedible food Awful margaritas Pricey Underwhelming ambiance

On a night when you couldn't get into any restaurant nearby, Sombrero squeezed us in. I do mean that literally...we were seated maybe an inch apart from our neighboring tables. Regardless, the food was very good. The service was pretty adequate. The restaurant itself, again, was very crowded so it was hard to really take in the ambiance. I would certainly go back again.

Convenient location in the theatre district with some outdoor seating. The service was excellent and friendly, but my food was a bit bland, lacking flavor. The margaritas are very good and only $5 during happy hour.

So glad I stumbled upon Sombrero before a show! The sign for $5 margaritas is definitely what got me through the door, and they did not disappoint. We ordered guacamole to go with them and honestly might not have needed it if we had realized that we would get free chips and salsa anyway! But it was $35 for 3 margaritas and guacamole so that's definitely a win in my book. The chips were not the best I've ever had but were very fresh and satisfying.

Perfect location to stop by for a snack after a show! There is plenty of seating, prices are great, and the restrooms are clean. The housemade guacamole is delicious as are the margaritas! Beware, the salsa has a good amount of heat.

House Tequila! Perfecto! Margaritas gonna take you through there! 1000/10!

The food was amazing and the service was even better! The ambiance was cozy and filled with laughter and smiles! Definitely a must every time I go to New York!

Definitely come here. Great food, great drinks, great tacos. This place should have 5 stars, had the shrimp tacos with rice and beans and their $6 margarita.

Service was on point. Friendly and checked on us timely. Food was delicious and worth every penny. Atmosphere is chill with music not too loud. Nice little spot for some good food in NYC. Two thumbs up.

The food was good. The service a little slow. We ordered Guacamole and chips. Fresh hot chips arrived way way before the guacamole. I prefer it come together. My shrimp tacos were delicious and cooked perfectly. The mojito was absolute amazing and the churros were the BEST. OMG DELICIOUS. Thank you.

This is my second time coming here. Considering the location the prices are AMAZING! The staff is super attentive. Happy hour $6 margaritas! I love it! It is such a nice place and the food is real authentic Mexican food! I had a very nice waiter (Geraldo) who just made sure I always had my refills and was taken care of. We need more places like this.

Came here to say for Cinco De Mayo with some friends. Not too bad of a spot. Music was pretty good, drinks were reasonably priced, and "floor manager(??) was very attentive to us. She was very pleasant and checked on us plenty. Where it dropped off for me was the food. I can't even tell you what it was. My friend ordered it for the table. Whatever it was it was very cheese, which is a plus for me in general, but overall it was kind of bland. I think if you're just looking for a spot with good reasonably priced drinks to get with friends though this is your spot!

A quick internet search led me to this tiny little takeaway window. There were a few people waiting around for their orders, but the service was quick, and super friendly. The birria was amazing, super tender, perfect seasoning and came with two sauces for dipping. Unbelievably flavourful, and an impressive serving size. Great value for the money. Truly authentic Mexican street food. I'll be back.

We had our usual list of spots in Midtown East, but this time we wanted something a little different. We ultimately landed on Mexican, however even then there were several spots to chose from. One of my colleagues found CdM, and since we had nothing to lose we decided to check it out. In terms of physical space at CdM, there is very little; this is actually a walk-up spot hence it is solely a takeout restaurant. The menu is pretty straightforward - lots of Mexican staples with a good variety to choose from. The burrito bowl looked good so I decided to go with that - I was given choice of protein (I chose pastor) and types of beans (I chose black). The bowl was really good - all the ingredients tasted fresh and they were generous with the portion. They added sour cream to the top of the bowl and it came with a side of salsa verde which I thought was a nice touch. We also ordered some bags of tortilla chips to share - these were my favorite kind as they were semi-thick and super crunchy. Overall, I had a solid experience at Cinco de Mayo. It definitely hit the Mexican craving spot and I would have no qualms returning for another meal.

I had this place bookmarked for a while. Finally came for my birthday dinner. It was a rainy…read moreevening and I was hoping there'd be umbrella sleeves offered. I didn't see any but saw buckets for umbrellas. I opted not to leave it there since I didn't wanna forget or risk someone taking it. I took it upstairs with me. My friend had arrived and was seated. Apparently, they do offer sleeves because she got one. But the 3 people who were at the hostess booth failed to offer me one. The beautiful ambiance will get your attention immediately. It is a stunning space. The tableware was gorgeous as well. We waited for our last friend to arrive who was almost half an hour late before ordering (we thought she'd arrive sooner). Our server, Matias was gracious about it the whole time. What we ordered: Drinks: Passionfruit Margaritas & Mojito - we were happy with them. Tlayudas, Guacamole y Salsas - this was really good and a great option for the table to share. The homemade chips alone were excellent. Liked all the different dips. Guac could've used some cilantro and more acid/spice. Tán Ceviche - I loved this. Super fresh and great flavor. Could use a touch of acid. My entree was the Shrimp & Crab Enchiladas - This was pretty good. The sauce could've used some spice and some acid to cut through the richness. My friend ordered the Yellow Corn Soup as part of her meal and she did not like it. She said it was too sweet which I thought was strange. I tried a spoonful and I agreed with her. It needed a savory note and again, acid would've done wonders. Also, the crab was a bit fishy in this. She enjoyed her tamal though. I tried a touch of the sauce and it was delish. My other friend had the Quesabirria which she was also happy with. To sum up: Ambiance: 5/5 The space is undoubtedly gorgeous. Food: 4/5 Beautiful presentation on everything but each dish lacks an element or two to make it a home run. Staff: Wait staff 5/5. Downstairs staff (greeters/hostess) 4/5. Needs to be more on point like offering customers sleeves for umbrellas or pointing out the buckets to put them in. At some point through our entrees a group of 3 women were doing a 10-minute photo shoot by the stairway where our table was. Absolutely inappropriate behavior and a manager should've stopped it. Camera flashes all up in our faces while we're eating wasn't cool. Overall, still a great elevated Mexican cuisine option. The slight tweaks would make this a 5 star place for me. I'd return to try more things.

If you are someone who is looking at an aesthetic place, this is a top contender. Unfortunately, I would say this place is better looking than the food is good. The food was fine, appetizers were all fresh but lacked any real depth in flavor. I wasn't too thrilled with the bone marrow I had either (but the tortillas come in the cutest basket). Personally, if it wasn't for the drinks and the space, I cant say this place is worth it - you're not coming here for the food. Another little complaint I have is the women's restroom on the second floor - right by the door is a floor to ceiling mirror which I understand was included to make the space seem bigger, but my friends and I agreed that it is a little misleading - I kept wanting to walk into it thinking there was more space there and not wall. I would recommend maybe putting a decal on it to clearly show its mirror.

Decent size Mexican restaurant with some seating in the front and a handful of tables in the back dining room. We started with chips and guac. The guac is large so I understand the price. It was very good. No complaints. The chips could have used more salt though which is always a concern. You'd think Mexican spots would have a tortilla chip down by now. I ordered a steak quesadilla. The steak was tender and had pretty good flavor. I just wish there was more. Especially considering the price. Certainly not a bad quesadilla but the value wasn't quite there. Still, a fine option if you want Mexican food and you are in the area. I'd say the 3.5 rating is pretty spot on.
