One of my all-time favorite restaurants. I'm not someone who likes to revisit places but I've been here 3 times already in the past six months and it's still not enough. Heard about how amazing they are for a long time and finally got a chance to try them and I agree it's the best indian food in the city. Nonfussy, homestyle Indian food with attention to quality. They make their paneer in house so you HAVE to get something with paneer. Specifically, their special with paneer-stuffed naan was a game changer with every single note - acid, sour, savory, salt, sweet, chewy, bready, hearty, buttery - it is everything and more. It was one of my favorite bites of 2025. The biryani is absolutely delicious too, with a nice crisp exterior and the meat was soooo tender (we got the dum goat biryani). A nice and cozy Indian restaurant locate near by the subway in Jackson Heights, the place was empty when I arrived but in a blink of an eye, while waiting for a friend the restaurant got full, the services was great, nice, hospitable and super friendly, given great recommendations. For my drink Mango lassi, the mango lassi is a famous drink super refreshing Indian drink that is made with canned mango pulp blended with milk, yogurt, and ice for a smooth, creamy. We came here on Sunday 1pm with reservations. By the time we left around 2, things were dying down a little where they could have potentially accomodated walk-ins but generally, reservations are recommended. They start you off with complimentary cracker-like things with a green, refreshing sauce. Entrees come with rice. For the 4 of us, we ordered: - garlic naan - pani puri: I don't see the appeal of this. The chutney were good and the texture is interesting but otherwise, it was boring. - butter chicken: it has a kick and the chicken was tender enough, but this doesn't have the indulgent creaminess of butter chicken. Not sure which version is authentic but don't order this if you are craving that. - the paneer makhani: wow, the paneer is so soft like silken tofu. And the sauce has a sweetness to it, a bit like tikki masala. I'd get this again. - goat dum biryani: get this. The goat meat was so tender and flavorful, I liked it much more than the chicken. The rice had tons of flavor and the breading on top was great to use to dip in the other dishes too. They give you yogurt to offset the spice if needed. - masala chai has deep flavor and is unsweetened so you can add your own sugar if wanted. One unpleasant note was that our table was right below the AC, where it kept dripping on my hands and table. Indian food being one of my favorite cuisines ever, Ive been so excited to visit Jackson Heights, and more specifically Angel. They serve free papadum to start which was so nice! I started with the Pani Puri which was excellent. I just got back from playing tennis and the pani was extremely refreshing. There was a tiny bit if heat too it which made it cooling but with a kick! I loved this a lot. Then I tried the Chole Bhature which was fireee. The chikpeas were creamy and the sauce here was super interesting. I honestly didn't know what to expect because this was my first time trying this dish but I was pleasantly surprised to get sort of a fall spice essence! It really reminded me of pumpkin with cinnamon. It came with some onions which really lightened up the dish too. The bread here was incredible. Very large, super crisp on the outside but was still a bit soft inside. I also got the Saag Paneer which is my default at every Indian restaurant. I will say I am a bit partial to more blended saag paneers and this one seemed to feature whole spinach leaves, but the flavor was still great. Actually different than most saag paneers Ive had but I liked this variation of it. But I need to give a special shout out to the paneer itself here because WOW that is some of the softest creamiest lightest paneer Ive ever had. It quite literally felt like eating a cloud. I think the paneer here is homemade and you can definitely taste that. Had some garlic naan on the side as well which was standard but in a good way. The food here is outstanding. You really can't go wrong with anything on the menu, but the kale pakoda and lamb madras with garlic naan are some of my favorites. Definitely order family style and share. The biryani is also popular. Overall, plenty of great vegetarian, meat, and fish options. This is a small, no frills place. Definitely make a reservation if you plan to dine in. The service is polite and prompt. If you're not local to Queens, I would say this place is still worth making the trip to Jackson Heights. So good. This is reported as closed, but they have actually just moved a block away 75-18 37th Ave, Jackson Heights, NY 11372. I had been to the prior location once, and had a good experience. However this visit to the new location (September 2025) was next level. Our service was excellent (and the staff really seemed to take pride in their work). The new location feels upscale, though prices were still very competitive. We tried several things, and I particularly enjoyed an appetizer which was fried vegetables in dough (apologies I don't know the name). It had an excellent sauce to dip. A cozy little spot with friendly service and seriously tasty food! As an Indian, a foodie, and a decent cook myself, I'm pretty picky when it comes to Indian restaurants. Indian cuisine is so rich in flavor, yet many places don't quite do it justice. But this restaurant impressed me--the dishes were flavorful, freshly made, and arrived at the table piping hot. One small downside--we were seated close to the main door, so with people coming and going, our food cooled down faster than we would have liked. Still, the flavors shone through! Highly recommend trying the lotus root kofta and paneer khurchan--both were fantastic. The garlic naan was delicious, and my husband really enjoyed the keema kebabs. Definitely planning to come back to try more dishes! Pro-tip: Make a reservation ahead of time. Overall (B+) The food and service is pretty good and the prices aren't too crazy high. Food (A-) It's decent safe bet Indian food. We had the butter chicken, garlic naan and thums up to drink. Portion size was about pretty good since 3 of us who were not super hungry split it. Service (B+) They are friendly and get the food out to you fairly fast. Angel is one of the restaurants that I've been meaning to try for a while and it did not disappoint. The food came rather quickly after we were seated. The Vegetable Pakora was well seasoned and crunchy and came with a good portion. Although basic (of me to order), I tried the Butter Chicken and was pleasantly spiced and had a kick to it. We ordered take out here for the first time tonight. Everything was so delicious. We had the Paneer Khurchan which was fresh paneer (cheese) in a lovely creamy tomato sauce with onions and peppers, we had tandoori chicken and Butter chicken. We had garlic naan and Peshawri naan. I can't bear Americanized Indian food, or Americanized anything for that matter. IMO Angel Indian has the best taste in NY city at its price point, and the service people are very friendly. Hidden Hole in the Wall in the Heart Of Jackson Heights . Once upon a time Jackson Heights was called Little India not it's more of Gold Souk. Been trying to check this spot for a while now , went few times and couldn't do the hour waits . Finally made a reservation and made the trip from Long Island. We were greeted and seated at our reservation time. Restaurant is small with about 8 tables. It was very diverse in there , I guess people traveled to eat here We were recommended a few dishes by our waiter but we picked what we wanted . For appetizers we went with Tandoori Chicken , Lamb Sheekh and Lamb Chops . Everything came out fast and sizzling. Portions were great and we barely had room for Main Course . But for main course we decided on traditional Butter Chicken , Chicken Dum Biryani paired with Keema Kulcha and Garlic Naan. Everything was great , it was on the spicier side but I am glad I had it as it was. Also loved the fact that they didn't tone down the spice level as Indian food is usually spicy. Overall , I wonder why it's rated 4.7 out of 5 and trust me it's better than most of these fine dining Indian restaurants in the city. Finally made it to this restaurant after hearing/reading all the raving reviews! We couldn't make the reservation as they were not available. So walked in. Initially we were told to wait for an house but got the table in 30 min. Went straight ahead with main course - paneer kulcha with chole and paneer khurchan. It was the best paneer kulcha I have ever had - so soft that it melted right away in mouth, slathered with butter on top! The chole tastes quite homely and not much of a fuss. It was paired with yogurt, onion and pickle. The pickle was so great - reminded of homemade grandmother pickle. Paneer khurchan was amazing too. They make paneer in house and it tastes so fresh and soft like a cotton ball. The quantity was enough as well. I am hoping to try other things next time. The service was quick too! read more

Visited Angel for the second time with my siblings for dinner and decided to try a few different dishes. We were super lucky they had a table available and got seated right away (don't be like us - definitely have a reservation beforehand!) We ordered their garlic naan, butter chicken, goat biriyani, and lotus root kofta. The wait was a bit long - around 45 minutes - but here's our review: * Garlic Naan ($5) This was absolutely delicious. Probably my favorite out of the bunch. Perfectly garlicky and buttery. 5/5. * Butter Chicken ($18.99) This wasn't marked as spicy, but it was definitely too hot for my taste. One of my sisters, who has an even lower spice tolerance, struggled with it. We tried adding the white yogurt sauce (is that what it is? correct me if I'm wrong) to tone it down, but it was still pretty spicy. We had to order another mango lassi to tone down the heat. Overall, I'd give it a 3/5. * Goat Dum Biriyani ($24.99) This was also spicy, but not unbearably so. The real issue was the goat meat - it was so chewy and tough that it wasn't enjoyable at all (couldn't swallow it). I even had to spit out a piece that was pure fat with a big artery/vein in the middle. Definitely opting for chicken next time. 2/5. * Lotus Root Kofta ($17.99) This turned out to be better than both the butter chicken and the goat biriyani (my sister with the good heat tolerance disagrees, obviously). It was actually quite tasty and not too spicy for us. A solid 4/5. * Mango Lassi ($4) Their mango lassi was thick and creamy, just the way we like it. However, it wasn't filled to the top (sighhh, like always), which is always a bit disappointing. Don't get how hard it could possibly be. Still, it was good enough for a 4/5. * Diet Coke ($2) Our total order came out a little less than $100 after tip and the quantity we got was enough for three people. Now, the only little downside - because there's always a "but" - is that the place is small. incredibly upset by the service here so all I can say is make a reservation otherwise you will not get seated!! a friend came here at 6:30pm to be on the "waitlist" and when we came back after receiving a text at 8pm saying our wait time was longer we were upset. There were initially tons of reservations available so if only they told us to make a reservation instead of wait then we would have been able to sit. After being met with disappointment, we ordered takeout for home. Friends liked the lamb kebabs, the chicken kadai was actually pretty good, and the biryani was mediocre at best. My theory is that an angel came and blessed the food at Angel Indian restaurant. Not trying to discredit the amazing chefs that cooked the delicious food, but the food is other worldly. The restaurant is unassuming and easy to miss. The space is small with about 10-12 tables including outdoor seating. Thankfully my partner and I came before the dinner rush on a Thursday evening and were immediately seated inside. Decorations are minimal but there are a few photos of the chef and staff on the walls. The restaurant provides a complimentary appetizer which is similar to a hard taco shell but made of flour and served with yogurt. It's good for a free appetizer. We ordered the butter chicken and the goat dum biryani. The goat dum biryani is the best biryani I've ever had. The biryani comes out in one of those stone pot bowls that keep the contents warm and the top of the rice is covered with bread. The goat pieces were juicy, tender, and very flavorful and the rice is fragrant and well seasoned. I never get biryani because I've had dry biryanis before, but this one is far from dry. It's also the perfect amount of spice. The bread on top is a nice touch and we used it to dip into the butter chicken. The butter chicken was also delicious and comes with jasmine rice. The butter chicken is creamy and pleasantly sweet and savory. The service is friendly and attentive. The staff checked in on us frequently and made sure our waters were filled to the top. They cleaned the tables in between our meal and were just on their A game. We were so happily full and even more impressed that the bill was so low for quality of food and service that we paid 40% tip instead of the usual 20%. We mainly came because of their chicken dum biryani, but ended up liking everything we ordered. we were given a complimentary side of papadams and we were all hooked with the green sauce it came with. I only prioritize eating Nepali and Bangladeshi food when I'm in Jackson heights and so Punjabi restaurants are never on my radar. Glad I finally made an exception. Prices are not too different from the $$ Manhattan restaurants so my review is truly based on the taste which was superior than the $$ Manhattan restaurants We started with the lassi (salty) and the lime soda and they both were amazing. The lime soda can be ordered without sugar as well The complimentary papad was fine but that accompanying chutney was GLORIOUS. We ordered a bunch of stuff: Started with the dahi sev puri - I personally don't like the suji puris so you know I was looking for my atta puris but I really enjoyed the dish. Good flavors, full of filling and a great chaat dish. What I liked is not an over sweetened yogurt We then ordered the goat liver fry that comes with some salad and buttered pav (bun). I mean that combo is super. The goat liver fry had an amazing spice mix which tasted quite different than generic Indian apps that you fine. Went really well with the buns. Flagging this is a greasy dish The garlic naan was great. Unfortunately we thought it would go with the goat liver but it didn't. It was a great naan nevertheless. Chole bhature - was it the chole that I have had in Delhi? No. To be very honest, it's not close either and I'll not order this again. But I'm a chole bhature snob and I have very high standards. Anyway, this was a good dish and it came with two gigantic bhaturas. Love that they have mixed achar/pickle also haha. Good touch. Finally the piece de resistance was the dum goat biryani. It was a Punjabi biryani - the spice mix can be hot so pls decide carefully. I loved the dish. The rice was solid and each grain was separate from each other. The meat was tender. I'm a biryani snob too and sometimes the simples thing goes wrong - that is salt. The salt was perfect! Overall it's a good biryani and I highly recommend it. Pls note it's coming from someone who swears by the lucknowi and Kolkata biryani and nothing else. So this was a lot more spice for me , less subtle more strong flavors but I really enjoyed it. I will also highlight that they give a generous portion of raita that is not watered down. I appreciate that I ordered another lassi to wash down all that spice. We came to Angel at 12pm and there were already 2 parties who had sit down and were looking at the menu. I thought they opened at 12pm! We were seated right away and ordered the garlic naan ($5), pani puri ($8.99), and goat dum briyani ($22.99). The garlic was covered in chunks of garlic, so if you are a garlic lover, this one is for you. The pani puri had an outer shell that was delicate and crispy. The crispy hollow fried dough balls (Puri) were stuffed with spiced potato, chickpeas, onions, and served with a sweet sauce and a spicy tangy water. This was delicious! You can have the puri alone with the spiced potato and it tastes really good. But the flavors were elevated with the sweet sauce and spicy tangy water. The owner showed us how to properly eat it as well. I noticed that the staff was very nice, accommodating, and attentive to every party. The goat dum briyani was very filling and though spicy it was less flavorful than I expected. My friend and I walked in here on a busy night as hoards of people shopped outside the night before Eid. The space is small, but cozy, and the Punjabi music blasting really sets an energetic vibe. Staff was super accommodating, as my friend and I both had hands full of hennah and had little use of our limbs. They pulled out chairs, opened the twist caps off of the water bottles and everything in between, for which I am very grateful. We started off with the lotus root kofta curry with a side order of garlic naan, as well as goat biryani. As a Pakistani meat lover, I don't think much about vegetarian versions of meat dishes, like Kofta. However, once the dish hit the table and I tried it I was absolutely blown away. The kofta was soft, silky and delicious. It had little bits of paneer mixed in and was seasoned so well and the tomato based creamy sauce that it came with was absolute heaven. The garlic naan was to die for, crispy just the perfect texture. It had just the right amount of garlic on top with a generous amount of ghee, glistening in the fluorescent elite light we sat under. Absolute perfection. Next came out the goat, biryani. in this dish, however, a little bit of the spices were lacking. Rice was clumped up together, and there was a lot of moisture still in pockets of where the curry was, this biryani definitely needed a lot more time in dum. Rice was also a little bit dry. I think some improvements can be made to the biryani. Overall, we really enjoyed our meal here and I will definitely come back to try other stuff on their menu especially their curries because I really think those hit Home for me. read more

This place was recommended to us by some friends while we were visiting New York. Definitely worth the hype! The restaurant itself is small with minimal seating so no guarantee that you'll get a table immediately. The food, however, is SO GOOD that it's worth the wait. Thankfully, we didn't have to wait and were seated almost after 3-4 minutes of waiting. Out of everything that we had ordered, the chole bhature were the best. Came by on a Saturday afternoon around 2pm. The place was busy. Didn't have a reservation, so we put our names on the waitlist. Despite it being an off hour, we were given a wait time of 1.5 hours. We spent time elsewhere, but were called back after 20 minutes. It took us about 30 minutes to head back, but luckily the table was still available. It seems that despite the long estimate, there are walk-ins quite readily available starting at 3pm for smaller parties. Started off with the mango lassi. So refreshing on a hot day. The do prepare them in advance and keep them in the refrigerator until people order them. It was quite disappointing when they weren't filled completely either. Samsosa was good. Nice and flakey outside, jam packed with nicely seasoned potatoes on the inside. Garlic naan also very tasty. Loved the amount of garlic on it. However, there were a lot of pieces that looked burnt on the bottom. Tasted overly charred too. Butter chicken was great. All the dishes come with a side of basmati rice. It was a good amount of food since the rice and naan are so filling. The chicken was perfectly spiced and had a slight kick to it. The sauce was creamy, and the chicken was tender. TLDR: Decent Indian in Jackson Heights, close to the train station. Comfy seating. I was very much looking forward to this meal but maybe I got here past it's prime. The place is well lit, cozy but overall it was just alright. The biryani wasn't quite as spicy or seasoned as I'd expect. Butter chicken the meat was a bit on the drier side, the saag also a not too punchy in flavors. I really wanted to love this place but the food was just kind of okay. Maybe it was an off day because the reviews are very supportive. Service was nice though and seems like a nice family run restaurant. Perhaps I'd have a better experience on a revisit and ordered differently. read more

We visited Angel for a friend's birthday. It's a cozy place with great food! This was our first time visiting and they accommodated our party of 6. The staff were really nice and attentive. We received our orders pretty quickly. For appetizers, we ordered the pani puri, samosas, and tandoori chicken. This was my first time trying pani puri and it was amazing! The outer shell was delicate and crispy. The filling and sauces were flavorful. The outer pastry of the samosas was very flakey and the filling was perfectly seasoned with a nice amount of spice. The tandoori chicken was also really good and I liked the sauce that it was served with too. For main courses, we all had the butter chicken and loved it. It came with basmati rice but we also ordered garlic naan and cheese naan which were also delicious! The mango lassi also went perfectly with the meal because it wasn't too sweet or heavy. Overall, the food and service were great! This is the place to go if you want good Indian comfort food. read more

Oh man, my friend and I were SO looking forward to dinner here, but it turned out to be a disappointment. Ratings and photos of the food looked amazing, especially the cool videos we've seen of the Dum Biryanis. We made a reservation for 8:30 p.m. (it was the only time slot left) on a Saturday. Despite arriving a few minutes before our reservation, we had to wait in the freezing cold for about 15 minutes until a table was finally ready. Staff was nice and helpful! We ordered Goat Dum Biryani ($24.99), Butter Chicken ($18.99), and Garlic Naan ($5). It was cool to see the waiter cut the naan open and reveal a clay pot of biryani, but that was the best part about the dish. The biryani wasn't spicy, barely had any salt, and overall it lacked flavor. The goat meat's texture was perfect but again, it was bland. The Butter Chicken just didn't hit the spot for me. The cream was quite heavy - as it should be - but it was kinda sweet. You can't go wrong with Garlic Naan, and that was the only thing I enjoyed here. read more

I was really excited to try this place, especially after seeing such high reviews. My boyfriend and I ordered the pani puri, butter chicken, and goat biryani. Everything just seemed to lack flavor and salt. Even the goat pieces in the biryani were not warmed through, almost as if just the pot it was in was quickly heated up but the actual contents were not hot. The butter chicken was the best thing we ordered out of everything, but overall our food was very average. I just don't find the high ratings consistent with the actual food. Service was great but would I come back? Probably not. read more
