    Butter chicken

I came here to grab some food to-go and had a pleasant experience! The interior of the restaurant is casual, and there's plenty of seating. The staff here are super sweet and easy to talk to. I got their butter chicken with garlic naan and it took about 10 minutes for my order to be ready. Would love to come back to try their $13 lunch special!

Came to Oh Calcutta for dinner with a friend - we arrived early on a weekend night and there was plenty of seating, though it did start to fill up later. I started off with a masala chai tea which was delicious and warmed me up. Then we split a butter chicken, saag paneer, and garlic naan. The entrees also each came with a bowl of white rice. Everything was absolutely delicious and the portions were generous. Service was fast and courteous, and our water glasses were never left empty. A true neighborhood gem when craving Indian food!

If you're interested in trying a different type of Indian food that's beyond just normal stuff you get, this is the place to go because They have Bengali style Indian food. The prices are very reasonable and the staff is friendly, the owner came and had a nice friendly convo with us. I appreciated that the food wasn't heavy on the creams and oils Food we got - puchka: nice potato filling - jhal muri: little rice puffs roasted in mustard oil - cholar dal: standard yellow lentil daal - chorchuri: mixed veggie dish - begun basanti: AMAZING, the best dish we had 100% - methi mutter malai paneer: not a fan of this dish, it was like malai paneer dish but more tomato forward and methi thrown in - aloo bhartha: second favorite dish, fun flavors - garlic and onion naan: well cooked and good flavors Ambiance: more of a fast casual vibe but better service than a fast casual place Overall, great place and appreciate opportunities to eat different type of indian cuisines!

Really 3.5 stars. Quite restaurant in lic. Family owned and run, with byob. The mullguwahty soup was alright, nothing super flavorful. A decent lentil soup. The Gobi Manchurian pretty good, but the portions in general are on the small side. The bhindi (okra) was stir fried with chopped up onions and tomatoes, it's a dry dish. It was good enough. The chole (garbanzo bean) curry had a thick tomatoes based curry, also nice. The rice has some fennel flavor. We had the chili onion Naan. I did not enjoy it, it was very thick, and you could barely taste the chili or the onion. Service is great and very friendly. Our waiter was clearly new at with tables and did not know the menu.. perhaps it was his first day.. he also didn't know how to cork a wine bottle. Just an observation, it had no impact on our meal.

Recommend! Recommend! We tried an appetizer, soup, two entrees, naan and a dessert. Everything was delish. The service was very good. It's an informal atmosphere (very friendly) and the Staff kept our water glasses filled (and I drink a lot of water). Will go back and try some of the other items on the menu, although what we had would be worth a repeat. I also am impressed with the price point of the entrees. Very reasonable. It was cold out and I asked for a hot drink. The Masala Chai ($3) was slightly sweet and very good. For an appetizer, we shared a Tangara Gobi Manchurian ($9.50), which is a nice portion for sharing of cauliflower in a hot chili paste. Perfect level of spice for us and delicious flavor. Also shared a Mulligatawny Soup ($6.50). Again, nice size for sharing and the lemon really highlighted the flavors in the soup. For entrees, we got Saag Paneer ($15.50) and Vegetable Makhni (same price). Both had a lot of flavor. The Garlic Naan ($3.50) was good - could have used a bit more garlic. Just to try it, we got a side of Beguni (4 slices of fried eggplant - $8.50). That had a nice flavor also. When the server put the rice on our table she told us we could get more if we asked for it. Since everything was so good, we decided to share a dessert. Kulfi (ice cream - choice of pistachio or mango - we got mango - $4) was light and flavorful. We took much of the entrees and Beguni home as leftovers. There was lots of food.

Good new Indian place in lic. Great service with takeout. The food was plentiful in terms of size. Nice mixture of things in the menu. Food flavor was good on the chicken vindaloo. Nan was good as well: white rice cokes with every order. Raita as good as was

My friends and I enjoyed a Saturday dinner at this restaurant. I've walked by it multiple times and even saw it mentioned on a NYT article! Many entrees are within the $15-20 range, with the exception of the seafood dishes, which are affordable. We ordered 4 entrees and garlic naan bread. We checked with the server if they felt that was enough food; we were told "each entree is enough for one person", which is true. If one were to do takeout of an entree and rice, that would have been enough for a meal, so I'd say the prices were fair. We ordered the - Paneer Tikka Masala - Butter Chicken - Now the Paneer Tikka Masala and Butter Chicken were the exact same but different protein. This was my favorite, but sharing amongst 4 it wasn't as much protein as I'd like especially for a sharing style restaurant. But it would have been plenty if one was ordering to enjoy by their self - Goat Mughlai Biryani - Great with the yogurt sauce. The goat meat was good but may opt for an easier protein with less bones next time. - Chorchori- wanted a veggie dish. Everyone's lesser favorite on the table - Butter Naan - It felt more of a a means to soak up the sauce of the tikka masala dishes (low-key if you're getting takeout here I'd just pick up garlic naan from TJs) - Gulab Jamun - My friend encouraged us to order. It was a great sweet treat to end to the meal! Service was solid as they came around and refilled waters when cups were empty. The interior has a main dining room with smaller-sized tables. Very casual dining space; I think the lighting could be improved that would elevate the vibes a bit more, but still solid if you're looking to have good food in the area with no need for a reservation.

Oh! Calcutta is hands down the best Indian restaurant I've ever been to. The food is amazing I felt like I could have eaten two servings of their butter chicken with garlic naan, it was that good. The staff is warm, welcoming, and make you feel right at home. If you love Indian food, put this restaurant on your list you won't regret it.

nice indian place specializing in food from Calcutta. its a bit on the fancier side with smaller portions but prices are reasonable especially for everything beside mains. we got the jhal muri, rogan josh, begun basanti, garlic naan, alu paratha, and sandesh. nothing stood out for me but everything was solid. service was great and place is very clean.

Came here for an early dinner and the waitress kindly went through recommendations on her menu. Chicken korma - a decent version with lots of herbs and very creamy, but it didn't have the nutrients that I like in korma (Sahib still best for this) Baigan bharta: an eggplant dish that's tomato in base. Friend is a big fan of this; I thought it was a good contrast but not my favorite. Entrees come with rice and we got the paneer Naan as well which is like a quesadilla. It was good but would opt for a different Naan next time. There's a lot more regional dishes I haven't seen before that I think I'll try next time that I'm here.

First off, the service is amazing. We had the friendliest and most smiley man come and take our orders. He also gave some recommendations upon our request, and our cups were never empty of water. We had the Chili Chicken, Garlic and Jalapeno Cheese Naan, Shrimp Tikka Masala, and Murghir Jhol. Everything was yummy, but my husband and I agreed the best items were the Jalapeno Cheese Naan and Shrimp Tikka Masala. They're able to adjust spice level in case you're someone who is unable to handle spice. The place was quiet, unassuming, and brightly lit. We hope to see more people try this place soon!

Definitely check this new Indian/Bangali Cuisine in the heart of LIC . Right on the corner , easy from the 7 Train Vernon Blvd Station. Staff was very welcoming and the owner was a sweetheart. Now on to the food we tried the CHAPLI Kabab, Butter Chicken , Lamb Bhunawala Mirchawala etc . Everything was super delicious . No wonder why they were the talk of the town on NY Times. Service - 10/10 Ambiance- 10/10 Parking - Street All Meats are Halal

The restaurant felt homey and I could tell there were many regulars and other return visitors, for good reason! Ordered: Masala Chai ($4.50)- this tasted authentic, was nicely spiced, and wasn't too sweet. I only wish the cup was bigger. Steamed momo ($12+)- I like how you have the option to mix and match. We ordered the mixed vegetable and the oyster mushroom and surprisingly I much preferred the oyster mushroom variety. The mixed vegetable momo tasted more earthy to me. Himalayan rice set ($20.5)- this was a very nice assortment- there was rice, lentil dal, your protein of choice- (I chose beef brisket), stir fried cabbage, broccoli rabe, pickled vegetables and crisp flatbread. The only downside in my opinion was that the brisket wasn't too tender and I didn't love the beef flavoring or preparation. The rest of the items were so delicious! I've been thinking about this meal ever since I left the restaurant. You don't want to skip this place.

Had we known, we would have chosen to dine elsewhere. Unfortunately, the service that followed was extremely disappointing. We felt rushed throughout the entire meal. I barely had time to enjoy my dinner before feeling pressured to finish. To make matters worse, as we were preparing to leave, I went to use the restroom and was told by the manager that it was closed. Considering that I had just spent over $100 on dinner, I found that response both surprising and unacceptable. I work in the food and beverage industry, so I understand the challenges of restaurant operations and always try to be respectful and understanding. I was polite throughout the evening, yet I felt like I was treated as an inconvenience rather than a paying guest. To be fair, the food itself was excellent. However, great food cannot make up for poor hospitality. Based on my experience, I would not recommend dining at this location. The behavior of the staff was unacceptable and fell far below the standard of service I would expect from a professional restaurant.

I got the lamb samosa (which is not very gamey if you don't like lamb), along with the chicken korma (breast meat is on the dry side, and the korma is more savory than nutty), along with the kheer (rice pudding) which I liked a lot due to having texture from the nuts and not being too sweet. I tried my friend's malai kofta (the croquettes are a bit sweet, and I liked the sauce more than my korma) and rasmalai (which is sweeter than the kheer, but not so sweet). I tried the Taj Mahal beer which is like a pilsner, and light. I enjoyed it. I'd come back here to try other things, perhaps during the weekend buffet, to give it another shot at being my go-to Indian in Astoria given how affordable this is.
