I used to love this place. The food was very well prepared (though not seemingly clean). The place is a dump and rather dirty but the food WAS good. However, I got sick once from the mango lassi and had watery diarrhea for 2 days. I thought it was the exception and not the rule so I continued to order from here. However.... I ordered rajma and rice (kidney beans with rice) and got sick again. I am just going to say it. This place is a DUMP. It's is dirty, unsanitary, and not cleaned properly. I am not even sure if the unaware staffs wear gloves. It is definitely not a coincidence that I got sick again (nauseous with diarrhea). I smelled the food and it had a chemically smell to it. I grew up in a Punjabi household. I know exactly how rajma and rice are supposed to smell. This place needs to be shut down and cleaned. If anything, i am definitely sending a message to the DoH. They need to review this place before someone winds up with hepatitis or worse. I hope the department of health sees this and contacts me. Culinary establishments running amok like this are in acceptable, especially considering how expensive food has gotten. read more

I'm so surprised how packed this place was even at 4pm on a weekday afternoon. Got a recommendation for my friend to try this place out so I was very excited. It's a bit confusing on how to order, but essentially you first order at the counter and then they'll call your name/order. They are all extremely friendly and happy to give you recommendations and explain different menu items to you. - Samosa Chaat - I've never had a chaat where they put a whole samosa inside, which was incredibly smart as it gave the chaat different textures and flavors. It was interesting that the chaat was on the sweeter side. I also really appreciate all the layers and textures this had to offer. - Chole Bhature - They gave such a huge portion of this! I imagine this is what home-cooked Indian food tastes like as it made you feel good. The best part about this dish, other than the extremely tasty bhatura, was the green sauce they had on the side. I'm not really sure what this was, but I really appreciate how it was both sweet and salty at the same time. - Kaju Katli - This is my first time trying this sweet and I thought it was okay. Usually when I get fushka from other places at least the potatoes are warm. I saw them assembling it fresh so that's a plus. I don't like the red sauce or tamarind sauce they use. We had, had a disappointing meal in a previous place and upon entering, we smelled the delicious smell of their street food and saw how delicious their hot food bar looked, made us more upset we had not found this place first. There were a lot of people sitting inside and eating, so there were not a lot of free tables. This was at 7-8pm on a cold Saturday night. I came to the sweets counter, and asked the man there if he could explain each one. There was actually a sweets menu hanging overhead, but I didn't notice, and he kindly explained them all anyway. I got four, at $1 each, including one kind of gulab jamun, carrot halwa, burfi, and something else I can't remember the name of. All were excellent, fresh, with good texture. Gulab jamun was the sweetest of the quartet. The ambience was basic and no frills, but with such cheap prices, you cannot miss this place. The Raja Shahi Thali came with three different vegetables of the day: baingan bhartha (eggplant), aloo gobi (potato and cauliflower), and chana masala (chickpea curry), along with white rice, kadhi pakora (gram flour fritters in yogurt sauce), and two soft rotis, which were perfect for eating with the vegetables and curries. Aayyy! After bookmarked this place for so long, one random Tuesday evening I finally decided to hop off the subway in Jackson Heights and went here. With so many Indian food around, you would expect the food to be good and authentic. and Raja did not disappont at all! the place looks pretty humble. there are tons of Indian sweets which unfortunately I'm still very not familiar with, despite of having Indian food pretty often. I also don't know most of their menu as there's no explanation, but I don't mind. service was a bit hectic so just be patient. i went for Samosa Chaat and actually the 1pc chaat was quite big already. price is cheap I eat the chaat while walking and I was blown away since the first bite. Like I didn't expect it to be so good. Flavorful! Authentic taste, just the right amount of spiciness, balanced flavor, fragrant spaces, and the Samosa is somehow still crispy despite of being drowned in sauce. No question I will come back to try their other menu this place is so bomb and there's A LOT of options to try.
